It's funny Seon Ho is my favourite actor. Joo Hyuk isn't. Infact I wasn't even sure he was going to be good. I didn't think he was bad but I didn't think he was good either. This drama changed my mind. I honestly just like the character. I said I could even relate. If someone else who portrayed the character just as well as he did who I never ever saw on screen before it would be the same. It's that so hard to believe that there are people like that?

Hey I'm sorry to ask, but do you have updates for korean dramas? I can't find the link to your old one but also maybe some newer suggestions? (It's okay if you don't!)

But what happens when Hana meets Takane is an unexpected pairing of utter opposites! Although it seemed a little rushed at the end it was a nice tv show!

For the drama asks: 13 & 14
13. Popular actor/actress you feel nothing for
Lee Min Ho
Tumblr media
He is like one of the top actors in Korea and everyone likes him so much but for me, he’s nothing special. I watched him in Boys Over Flowers, The Heirs and The Legend of the Blue Sea and I didn’t feel any attraction or any sort of feeling towards him but it will not stop me from watching his new drama (especially when it will include Woo Do Hwan).
Nam Joo Hyuk
Tumblr media
He was really cute in Weighlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo but as soon as I saw him in Bride of Habaek the cuteness stopped as the drama showed his bad acting. He redeemed himself in The Light in Your Eyes but I don’t really care about him that much.
Jun Ji Hyun
Tumblr media
She’s considered the queen or at least that’s what I saw while being on drama communities but I couldn’t care less about her. I saw her in Legend of the Blue Sea and My Love From The Star but I didn’t really like her. Was she funny? Yes. Will I watch dramas only because of her? Definitely no.
14. Drama you dropped within the first two episodes
Emergency Couple
Tumblr media
I didn’t even pass one episode because it was boring but I’m thinking I may go back to see it again and if it was really that bad. Would you recommend me to do that?
Entourage
Tumblr media
Again only one episode seen, I remember I watched it after I saw Cheese In The Trap and younger me still having second lead syndrome searched for a drama with Seo Kang Joon and here is where I ended up. I didn’t like the humour of the drama but maybe I was still too young for that.
Abyss
I was so excited for this drama because it has Park Bo Young (aka Do Bong Soon) and Ahn Hyo Seop who didn’t have a lot of dramas but I hated the female lead so much and how she always thought that she became ugly and just annoying overall.
Honourable mentions: Perfume (3 ep), Just You (4 ep) and Hyena (4 ep).

I was wondering if my initial impressions of Bride of Habaek as a flaming trash heap were wrong when I checked it out when it was airing a few years back. I mean, it gave me a years-long dislike of poor Nam Joo Hyuk which only recently abated, and the only reason it didn’t do the same for the rest of the main cast is because they were long time faves.
So since it’s now on Netflix, I checked it out (again.)
Hahahahahahhahahahahahhaha.
I was wrong back then.
It’s not a flaming trash heap. It’s THE flaming trash heap. The only way it doesn’t win “worst kdrama that I have ever seen” award is because My Love Patzzi exists.
Everyone in that cast must have had blackmail photos on file to agree to being in this.

Hi! Is it fine if you recommend any kdrama from this year? I already watched Goblin btw >_
Hey there! I’m so sorry for the late reply. I’ve been so busy with college and post-graduation plans. D:
I would love to recommend 2017 kdramas for you. Here a few that I recommend and they’re not in any particular order. I’ve included a brief summary of the dramas that I absolutely recommend, to help give you an idea what the drama is about. I hope you find some to your liking!
1. Strong Woman Do Bong Soon
Tumblr media
I really liked this drama! If you’re looking for a fun, quirky, and cute drama to pass your time – then this drama is perfect for that! It will not fail to make you laugh and smile. In general, I love Park Bo Young and she does an amazing job of playing Do Bong Soon. Plus, how can you pass up a drama with both Ji Soo and Park Hyung Sik as the male actors? This drama is about the heroine, Do Bong Soon, who’s born with awesome super strength that is passed down to the women in her family. On the other hand, Bong Soon wants to be an elegant and graceful woman, the ideal woman of her childhood crush In Guk Doo, unlike being unruly and brawn. Her dream is to create a video game with herself as the main character. She lands a job being the bodyguard of the CEO of a gaming company, Ahn Min Hyuk. However, one day, a series of kidnapping occur in Bong Soon’s neighborhood and she becomes determined to catch the culprit, with the help of Min Hyuk, after her friend was almost kidnapped.
2. Chicago Typewriter
Tumblr media
I’ve recommended it before and I’m going to continue to recommend it because this drama highly deserves the praise. Lol… all I can say is that this drama is the definition of friendship, love, and loyalty. I freaking balled my eyes out, not because of the romance, but because of the friendship!!! This drama is about a writer who experiences a “slump” while writing his book, but two important people come into his life and help him write it… while also a bit of reincarnation and time traveling to the 1930s during the Japanese occupation in Korea. One thing that may tick you off a bit is the main guy’s temper, but after that… he’s an adorable cute floof ball entranced by love.
3. Tomorrow With You
Tumblr media
Though I never finished writing my review for this drama… I still recommend it because it has a really beautiful story. Plus, I love Shin Min A. The story is about a CEO of an estate company, Yoo So Joon, who can travel through time via riding the subway. He foresees his future self and a woman, Song Ma Rin, in a terrible accident. He decides to marry Ma Rin in order to avoid that fate. The drama is kinda slow, but the story is very well written and organized.
4. Duel
Tumblr media
I’m still watching this drama, but damn is it good that it lands in my recommendation list for kdramas 2017. Probably one of the best crime and mystery dramas I’ve watched in a while! The story follows the Chief of the Crime Squad, Jang Deuk Cheon. His daughter is kidnapped and the suspect is a human clone. I haven’t seen the ending yet… but I totally recommend this drama if being on the edge of your seat and suspense is your cup of tea!
5. Queen of Mystery
Tumblr media
Another great crime and mystery drama, “Queen of Mystery” is about a bored housewife, Yoo Seol Ok, who is passionate about solving crimes by reading mystery novels. She has always wanted to become a detective, but gave up on her dream and married her husband who is a prosecutor. But one day, she gets involved in a real case and solves it, which leads her to team with detective Ha Wan Seung.
6. My Secret Romance
Tumblr media
I have mixed feelings about this drama, lol. I enjoyed watching it, however, the main guy character’s supreme “male alpha-ness” was overbearing sometimes. Don’t get me wrong though, the main guy was really sweet; I’m a sucker for guys who “fall in love at first sight” and “head over heels” for the girl. Probably one of the best rom-com so far in 2017. The story is about a nutritionist, Lee Yoo Mi, and a director of an underwear company, Cha Jin Wook, who have a one-night stand that would change their lives forever. If you like cheesy and cute romance with the cliche drama, this is a funny drama to laugh about and pass time with a friend who is also a romantic. Lastly, the art is absolutely amazing (art goals T__T)!!!
7. Hospital Ship
Tumblr media
This is the drama I’m currently watching… and I am absolutely obsessed about this drama (not only because I want to go to medical school >.>). I love the actors and actresses, but this is Min Hyuk’s FIRST LEAD ROLE!! Anyways, even if you’re not a fan of Min Hyuk, this drama is a little different from your typical drama, as it focuses more on the professional life of being a doctor. Other people have different opinions because they complain there’s not enough romance, which I argue because the romance is not the focal point of the story; it’s more about the stories of each character and their struggles in their professions. There’s actually romance, you just have to be patient. It follows a team of young doctors who travel on the hospital ship to treat patients. Particularly, a genius surgeon, Song Eun Jae, who is a strong and independent woman, joins the team after an incident at the Seoul hospital. There, she meets Kwak Hyun, a doctor of internal medicine, who is the son of the highly regarded physician known as the “Korean Schweitzer,” but he wants to become a good doctor different from his father. Overall, I think this drama is great so far with the character development, especially if you like dramas that portray a more realistic approach to the professions of the characters. This aspect is actually one thing that really annoys me sometimes in kdramas, they’ll throw in a medical profession for the main character just for convenience, but not accurately write out the profession (*coughs* The Bride of Habaek *coughs*). Please give this drama a chance, especially if you like good character development and awesome medical action! And it’s an added bonus if you love Min Hyuk and Ha Ji Won!!!! ^__^
8. Rebel: Thief of the People
Tumblr media
Oh man, this drama is AWESOME! One of the best Hong Gil Dong storylines I’ve seen. Full of action, thriller scenes, and a kickass historical drama… Rebel is a must see… especially if you love historical dramas. The writing is spectacular and the characters are all well developed/written. Set during the reign of the tyrant King Yeonsangun, the story follows Hong Gil Dong who is the son of a servant who stole from the rich and gave to the poor. The story tells the journey of Hong Gil Dong becoming Joseon’s first revolutionary activist. There are 30 episodes, but trust me, you’ll wish it was longer. The plot is not your typical predictable historical dramas and will keep you on the edge of your seat.
9. Tunnel
Tumblr media
This must be the year of crime and mystery kdramas!!! Tunnel is about a cop, Detective Park Gwang Ho, who enters a tunnel, in the year of 1986, chasing a killer and ends up time traveling thirty years into the future in the year of 2017. The serial killer has resumed his killings and it’s up to Gwang Ho, with Detective Kim Sun Jae and Professor of Criminal Psychology Shin Jae Yi, to catch this killer. Each episode always kept me at the edge of my seat begging for the next episode – really great and suspenseful cliffhangers!
Special Mentions: (Dramas I’ve watched but not going to give a brief description because I’m lazy, but highly recommend them too)
My Only Love Song (Historical, comedy, romance): Watch this if you love Lee Jong Hyun and Gong Seung Yeon from “We Got Married”
Circle: Two Worlds Connected (Crime/mystery, comedy, romance)
Defendant (Crime/mystery, thriller/suspense)
Save Me (Crime, Revenge, Thriller, Action, School)
Normal Mentions: (Dramas I’ve watched but not going to give a brief description, but they were enjoyable enough for me to recommend)
Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo (Sports, comedy, romance)
The Bride of Habaek (Fantasy, comedy, romance)
Lovely Love Lie (Music, Romance, comedy)
Ruler: Master of the Mask (Historical, Romance, Action)
Blind Recommendations: (Dramas on my to-watch list and recommended to me by other people)
Band of Sisters (Family, Melodrama)
Suspicious Partner (Action/thriller, Crime/mystery, comedy, romance)
Doctor Romantic (Medical, melodrama, romance): This is definitely on my “to watch list”!!!!
Voice (Melodrama, mystery/thriller, crime, action)
While you were Sleeping (Sci-Fi/Fantasy, Romance): This just started (Suzy and Lee Jong Suk) and I’ve heard pretty good comments about it so far
And as always, my #1 2017 Kdrama recommendation for those who have not seen it or just need a good rewatch….. drumroll….  is Goblin!!!!!!!! (lol still gonna add this cause it’s my bias >.

drama asks! #2, #6 for Nam Joo Hyuk (the guy who plays Habaek), #10, #13, and #19 (and #20 if you're still procrastinating lol)
I was actually responsible and cleaned right after posting that, so this was my rest task. Good job me. 2. pairing you want to see Not sure really. There are only a few actors I pay that much attention to, so maybe Bai Yu and Dilraba Dilmurat, who can both play very chaotic characters well (my favorite kind of character). Mostly I just think in terms of individual actors I want to see more of.
6. name an actor/actress and I’ll pick their best drama/movie: Nam Joo Hyuk – I've only seen him as a main lead in Bride of Habaek actually! I have impression of who his character was in Cheese in the Trap, those memories are reserved for rage. Netflix randomly started me on episode two School Nurse Files and I haven't had the mental fortitude to go back after that batshit introduction to it.
10. a trope/genre you’d like to see more of More comedies where they don't, partway through, decide to throw in some really serious/overly angsty themes would be so nice. I started watching this for laughs and now there's some death related crisis or someone's about to run away and leave a lead in the lurch or best friend betrayal... No thanks!
13. popular actor/actress you feel nothing for Oh, most of them for sure, particularly any dudes getting hired partly for having six packs (highly developed muscles are weird, bodies are weird, I'm weird). For a specific one, Wang Yibo, I guess? I just look at face and think “there's a fuck boy” which isn't fair I'm sure, but the brain does what it does.
19. a pair you want to see reunite but in a different drama Bai Yu and You Jing Ru maybe? They were so good as a pair in Detective L. Or maybe Yi Da Qian and Zhang Xin Yu, the second lead couple in Love Designer.
20. drama you thought you’d never watch but did (and liked it?) Maybe The Romance of Hua Rong. It's really not my genre (so I thought), and I only watched an episode to see how ridiculous it was. Then I watched all the available episodes and wailed loudly when I realized it was still airing. I'm so happy they're doing a second season because that is Yuan Hao's absolute perfect role.

BRIDE OF THE WATER GOD
I just want to unload all the feelings relating to Bride of the Water God. Hahahha
Tumblr media
I was an avid reader of the Bride of the Water God Manhwa during my college years. I couldn’t find other words to describe the art but perfection. However, it wasn’t popular on the internet unlike the Japanese ones but I remembered correctly it was on the top lists of the manhwas to read.
This will be of course in the perspective of someone who read Bride of the Water God Manhwa.
I have to say it has the best fantasy/romance plot of all the mangas AND manhwas in the same genre that I have ever read in my life. I could say it’s unlike any other. If I could worship Yoon Mi-Kyung for her creation, I would. hahahaha
When the news broke out that there would be a live action of Bride of the Water God, I am already a bit skeptical especially when they mentioned, “filmed in the modern setting”. I was ranting in Twitter but spared further judgement of the kdrama.. Y’know, there’s still a “maybe they could pull it off”.
I am following the live action closely and as of writing this, I just finished ep 12.
As a fan of the Manhwa, I AM DEEPLY DISAPPOINTED not with Nam Joo Hyuk or Shin Se Kyung’s acting, or the choice of actors and actresses but with the team behind the live action. They have stripped it with essential parts – the politics in the realm of gods and the importance of side characters – which made Bride of the Water God special. They have reduced to just the romance between of two characters, So-ah and Habaek and have made it the basically the same with other kdramas out there.
I was looking forward to Nakbin-Habaek because in the original story, Nakbin was his original bride. He loved her dearly and even promised that he would marry her again if she reincarnated. Heck, he can’t even let her go even with So-Ah around. She was a major chess piece in this whole fiasco. In the live action, she’s just the ex and a disgrace. She’s THE Ex, dammit! There’s Nakbin’s curse and why she did it. The prophecy or some sh*t that Nakbin is his bride but another one will be his soulmate (hi, So-Ah). Nakbin’s decision to let Habaek go. The quest to acquire eternal life/longevity for So-Ah. Su Wang-Mo and Dong Wang-Kong (this! omg.. the love story between them is just ugh). The brothers’ quarrel. Especially the last since it started the shit show in the whole realm in the first place.
To me, the live action just borrowed the characters’ name and the title itself to create buzz for the show. That’s it. A marketing ploy. They probably hoped that the manhwa fans would appreciate and learn to love it by putting some romantic scenes which failed, obviously seen in ratings, manhwa fans are having none of that. Ok, imma take some of it bec NJH
I was also excited to see Nam Joo Hyuk’s ‘cosplay’ of Habaek… If I could just burn his wig with his costume designer it would appease my upset fan girl heart.

The only thing that keeps me on watching Bride of the Water God is that Nam Joo Hyuk is Habaek. Such eye candy, yes? He’s acting is okay so don’t blame the poor guy.
It would’ve been better if they didn’t use the damn title.

Bride Of The Water God 2017: please, drama gods, do this story justice!
I’m feeling kind of anxious towards Bride Of The Water God. As someone who read the manhwa, I was really excited when the news first came out that there would be a drama adaptation. I was really looking forward to it at first.
But then, news of the casting started coming up. And Nam Joo Hyuk was chosen to play Habaek. This turned out to be my first tiny worry.
Don’t get me wrong. I really like Nam Joo Hyuk. And, appearance-wise, he really fits the role. But I can’t help feeling like this sort of quiet and kind of taciturn character doesn’t really fit his image. I kind of thought that the quality of his acting really improved from Baek Ah to Joon Hyung because the later had a personality similar to his real persona (and, whoah, even Joo Hyuk said so himself later during an interview). And there was also the fact that his partner was none other than the beautiful Sung Kyung, who was already his long time friend and then later, girlfriend. For me, he was not acting at all during Weightlififting Fairy Kim Bok Joo. It was him there, Joo Hyuk himself, falling for Sung Kyung. <3 And that was pretty special.
Anyway, I decided to put those things aside and just hope that I’m feeling worried for nothing and that Joo Hyuk will nail Habaek.
Also, I haven’t seen mini Habaek at all. Are they going to just take him out? It was so important to the character.
As for Shin Se Kyung, I didn’t really expect her to be So Ah, but okay. She’s beautiful and an experienced actress, so I won’t dare to say anything yet...  *COF COF*
I can only say how much I hated her characterization though (I know that is not the actress fault, but still!!!! WHYY). So Ah had really long straight black hair!!! That was something so simple to keep, why did they had to change even that? :~~
In the end, what really bugged me was the spin-off thing, the setting being now the modern times. The manhwa’s original scenery was already so good, I don’t get why they did this. :~ I’m guessing it might have something to do with the production cost? I don’t know. But this really was a huge disappointment to me.
One of the best things about the manhwa was the Water God’s village and the huge emotional impact that was So Ah having to be sacrificed by her own family to become the Water God’s bride and bring rain...
I wonder if they are going to bring those kind of important points from the manhwa and be able to adapt them well into a modern time situation.
Well, I can only hope.
Not that the manhwa was perfect, no, no, no way. It had many flaws, sometimes things even got repetitive. But the essence of the story was great. And I really really really hope they are going to keep that essence on the drama.
But despite all that - mostly my silly complaints, I know - I must also say that there are some good reasons to have faith on the drama’s production team and also the writer’s. Queen In Hyung’s Man was a well produced drama (I can’t say anything about the PD’s other works because I haven’t watched them), and also Misaeng and Arang and the Magistrate had good writing. I’m choosing to be optimistic!
So!! Today’s the D-day. Let’s see how thing’s are going to be!!

Note
You should watch the School Nurse Files, I loved it. It's weird, wacky, and fun but it's got heart.
Thanks Anon :) Yeah I had been recommended this drama by some people. But wasn't really sure if I wanted to watch a Netflix produced drama. But after seeing Nam Joo Hyuk's impressive improvement in Start up, having seen him only in Bride of Habaek (a drama I didn't actually hate btw) and so I was convinced lol.

The Bride of Habaek Review: What’s Fate? It’s a Secret of Nature
Well… first off… sorry for the delayed review. Too many things happened over the summer and then — WHAM — college happened and I became a Senior… from there, my life became a chaotic mess with medical school applications, interviews, internships, etc. I know I’ve made so many promises about reviewing dramas, but please cut me some slack… sometimes you just gotta prioritize stuff… especially career-related things. Growing up is a lot of work.
Anyways, on to the review for “The Bride of Habaek.” Tbh, I’m gonna go on a little side rant… if you ask me, “Did I enjoy it?” I’m gonna answer… “Kinda?” At the beginning, I was super hyped for the drama, especially since I loved the manhwa. I knew that the drama would take a different route by modernizing the setting… and yet, that’s not the reason why this drama disappointed me so much. The most disappointing aspect about this drama was the plot itself. There was so much they could have done with all the elements they introduced into the story… but instead, they took the typical boring route and casted aside development for their characters to have a happy cliche ending.
1. Plot/Story
Tumblr media
Again, I’m going to reiterate, the plot/story wasn’t really captivating. Even in the beginning, the plot was kinda confusing. Habaek’s mission was to collect the god stones to become king… but once he found all the god stones… they kinda became insignificant to the storyline. As well as, answers to the questions in the drama were revealed “too late” to add to the suspense of those questions; it would have been helpful to reveal the backstory sooner to better comprehend the plot. Really, the whole purpose of the god stones were for Habaek to travel to the human world to understand and empathize with humans — but once I figured that out, I already didn’t care why those god stones were important. What really threw me off, though, was how this drama ended and basically said “forget all the things we’ve built up for the plot, let’s just have a bullshit happy ending.” Various elements were introduced into the drama to stir up “drama” and create a unique story, such as Habaek’s missing powers, the half-god Shin Hoo-ye, So-ah’s missing father, Habaek’s ex-lover Nak-bin, the disappearance of the other god stone, the rambunctious childhood friend Bi-ryeom, and the cold but unrequited love of Moo-ra towards Habaek. These various elements added flavor to the enjoyment of the drama, however, they were readily tossed aside when it came to the progression of the main couple’s love story — which, in my opinion, was a hit or miss. Sometimes I felt the chemistry between the two and then sometimes it completely flat-lined, but they focused way too much on “fan-service” action and not enough to completely convince me the depth of Habaek and So-ah’s love. Also, so much “fan-service,” to the point where the “heavy consequences” of the drama were complete jokes. Overall, the story was bearable enough for me to finish the drama, but I found myself dreading each episode as they dragged on.
2. Characters
Tumblr media
The acting wasn’t phenomenal, but it wasn’t the worst either. I was fairly impressed by Shin Se-kyung’s acting; she was able to portray So-ah’s character of kindness, understanding, but — yet — she is ashamed of her upbringing. Despite being ashamed of her upbringing for helping others before herself, she chose a career that was the definition of helping others — a psychiatrist. Sometimes she didn’t seem like a competent psychiatrist (which I always seem to have problems with dramas that portray mental health and illnesses), but So-ah was a genuine and considerate person when it mattered and she reminded us that she is only human. Thus she makes mistakes (such as her ridiculous debt lmao). As for Habaek, I’m not sure if Nam Joo-hyuk was the best fit to play the character considering how complex Habaek’s personality was, but NJH was very adorable and definitely “eye-candy”… if you know what I mean. I just personally think that perhaps a more experienced actor could have done better to fully bring out the gravity of Habaek’s complex and demanding personality, his trust issues with humans from the betrayal of Nak-bin, and the grandeur of being the chosen king of the gods.
Tumblr media
As for the other characters, I really liked Moo Ra and Bi Ryeom… and I kinda wished there was more development for these two characters. Tbh, they didn’t really feel like “second lead” characters and more like side characters. Towards the end, we got a bit of romance between the two, but even their love story was rushed and didn’t fully convince me of Moo Ra’s feelings because she has always loved Habaek. Honestly, you could remove these secondary characters and it wouldn’t change the plot of the drama… that’s how poorly written the second characters were. They just added drama that made the story more disorganized.
Tumblr media
Lastly, the winner of this drama goes to Hoo Ye — the adorable CEO. Lim Ju Hwan did a PHENOMENAL job… I completely fell in love with his character to the point I was shipping him with So Ah. In my opinion, Hoo Ye had the best character development and story out of everyone. His character was relatable and felt realistic. He was an abandoned child who was casted away because he was considered a mistake — someone who shouldn’t have been born even though it wasn’t his fault for being a demigod. I loved how the moment he met So Ah, he gradually changed and he became a better person to where he could love and accept his true self. I was so disappointed at how they simply casted him aside after his story was “resolved.” If there was a sequel drama just about him, I wouldn’t complain at all because he deserves a happy ending.
Tumblr media
3. Overall
There were too many concepts that this drama introduced, but the writing failed to concretely focus on one message or issue to solidify the drama as a complete story. Basically, this drama was about one’s fate and searching for happiness; to give other people happiness is to sacrifice your own, so you have to learn to love yourself before you can love and understand others. Habaek learned this concept that to be a king, he must be capable of protecting others and not just himself. So Ah learned that in order to help others and give them proper advice, she must help and take care of herself too. Hoo Ye learned that he has to accept him for what he his, so he can learn to accept and trust others into his life. Unfortunately, this drama lands in my list of “dramas that I wouldn’t rewatch.” I still scratch my head to this day as to what the “real” message of the drama was supposed to be. But I guess… one thing that was clearly seen was that Habaek and So Ah were just fated to be.
Tumblr media
Though this drama is fantasy, one thing this drama really lacked was the element of the gods’ powers. We got to see snippets of these godly powers, but it continued to be dragged out with Habaek being powerless. I understand why he lost his powers, but we only saw his powers in action like once or twice. The cinematography and sceneries of this drama was done well, so those are some redeeming qualities (as well as the nice music). My recommendation is… if you like these actors and actresses, then give this drama a shot. However, this drama will require your utmost patience and understanding to follow the reckless ideas that occur randomly throughout in this drama. Also, if you just want to see some really cute romantic scenes between the main couple, then this drama takes the trophy.
