jon sims is ace bc jonny sims does not understand the 'fuckable monster' trope but didn't want that to happen to jon so he just decided to circumvent it entirely by making jon ace send tweet

Thoughts on sex positive/nsfw jon from an asexual perspective
So I was talking to my friend earlier and i realised why exactly this bothered me, and figured i’d put it out there
(CW for mild internalised aphobia)
Growing up ace, we are fed this narrative about how sex is a part of being human, and makes you ‘complete’. I have had to train myself out of thinking like this, and train myself out of the belief that to be in a mutually fulfilling relationship I either have to have sex or let them have sex with others.
Jonny Sims has created a character who is ace, does not have sex, and has been in two fulfilling and pretty healthy relationships where the lack of sex is a non-issue.
The issue with nsfw jon written by non-ace writers for me stems from this. If an allosexual individual is deciding to write a sex neutral/repulsed character as sex positive, or even non-asexual this is reinforcing the narrative that he, or his relationships, are ‘incomplete’ without sex. As an allo person, you would also be reinforcing the idea to ace individuals that a relationship without sex wouldn’t be fulfilling or complete or anything like that. And that can be really damaging for ace individuals to read, especially with one of the few characters we get to project on.
So many ace/ace coded characters we have are made sexual the moment they reach mainstream media, and to have a MAIN CHARACTER who is written as ace, doesn’t have sex and is in a relationship is MASSIVELY validating for people like me. Which means the portrayal of him in fanworks by allo people as sex positive, often simply as a justification to make nsfw content often ends up feeling very invalidating, ESPECIALLY for people who are just now realising they are ace. (also this is in no way talking about sex positive ace individuals who choose to project or explore their sexuality through Jon. Y’all are valid!!)
