Okay so I was listening to the q&a after season 1 of Monstrous Agonies they mentioned what might be my favorite thing about audio dramas: there's no one (or hardly anyone) in-between the creator and the content
Each of the shows I've listened to has been the creators vision as they made it. Each one has had such amazing representation and crazy, interesting plots and unique stories.
I love just vibing and hearing a suspenseful tale and not having to worry that it's going to fall into hurtful stereotypes or tropes.

Spader' Portguese Interview: Planting a Massive Oak Tree and Breaking Away!
Oh, yes he is.
Without a Doubt: Spader isn’t happy. And it seems his own fanbase are out of touch with his true feelings on the subject of fame, and why he just wants a simple work schedule like he had in Season 1?
Is that too much to ask? Apparently so. And because he’s been forced to work all the time, it’s taking him away from his private life.
HES NOT HAPPY.
But those who follow me *know* this already.
James Spader stars in “The Blacklist” since 2013. It’s more of a dark character in his career, the ones he’s drawn to.
[I’VE MENTIONED THIS: WHENEVER A LEAD ACTOR BECOMES FRUSTRATED WITH STORY, OR IN SPADER’S CASE, ADD THE SHOOTING SCHEDULE, THEYRE GOING TO VENT. NOT IN THE STATES BECAUSE THEY ARE PROTESTING IN THEIR OWN WAY THEIR DISTRESS OVER THE CURRENT STORY DIRECTION. ILL EVEN ADD ON THAT THE INTERVIEWEES ARE HAND PICKED BY THE SAME SOFTBALL CREW WHO WILL WRITE JUST ABOUT ANYTHING TO HYPE A BAD SHOW OR INTERVIEW THE SAME ACTOR OVER AND OVER THE ACTOR WHO LOVES TO HEAR HIMSELF TALK, LIVES THE SPOTLIGHT, NILS IS A TERRIBLE DISEASE FOR ROOKIE ACTORS. THEY START BELIEVING THEIR OWN PRESS UNTILL THOSE RATINGS CRASH THEIR Q SCORE]
[SO WHILE AMIR ARISON, AND RE TWEET THEIR ‘LOYALTY’ BECAUSE THEY ARE GETTING THE MOTHERLODE OF AIRTIME AND STORY, OTHER ACTORS REMAIN SILENT AND FOR GOOD REASON. THE SHOW IS ALARMINGLY IMBALANCED.]
James Spader’s debut in the art of representation took place in the cinema in the early 1980s, but in the nearly four decades of his career, the actor stood out as a TV character in “gray” or completely dark. That was the unethical Alan Shore of Fair Cause and Boston Legal or the puzzling Robert California of The Office. But also from Raymond “Red” Reddington from The Blacklist, NBC series issued in Portugal by SIC. Dressing the skin to these villains is not an imposition, but Spader admits in an interview that DN had access that feels “a certain attraction” by them.
“I’ve always found anti-heroes very attractive and of course playing a villain who mixes his evil with humor and irreverence can be a lot of fun,” he explains. [HERES THE DISCONNECT: RED IS A VILLAIN-HIS FANS REFUSE TO SEE THAT. INSTEAD THEY FEEL RED IS THE LONG SUFFERING HERO HOPELESSLY IN LOVE WITH LIZ. YEA. THATS *NOT* WHATS GOING ON HERE AT ALL. IN THE END, “HE MUST PAY.” READ THE FARMER PARABLE AND YOU’LL KNOW THE ENDING. It DOES NOT MATTER WHAT GOOD RED DOES IN THE FIVE YEARS….IN THE END, “HE KNOWS IN HIS HEART THAT HE MUST PAY.”]
In fiction, he believes, tyranny represents “in many respects the extremes of society” and is a “kind of morbid curiosity” in knowing these extremes that impels it.
[DO WE SEE HOW SPADER AND KLATTENHOFF APPROACH THEIR INTERVIEWS? ALL ABOUT THE CRAFT NOT THE STORYLINE. NEVER ABOUT THE STORYLINE BECAUSE PROFESSIONALS LEAVE IT TO THE WRITERS. BUT IF RATINGS SINK BECAUSE OF THOSE CHOICES, THE ACTORS THROW SHADE IN A PASSIVE AGGRESSIVE WAY AND SPADER BROUGHT HIS OAK TREE]
The success of his “Red”, the man most wanted by the FBI - who gave himself on the condition of being released and in turn helping to catch criminals on a blacklist - is also due to “luck” On television had come “at a time when anti-heroes were not plentiful.” “Now there’s probably more, though I do not have time to watch TV. I’m too busy doing it,” stresses the interpreter. [HE DOESNT WATCH TV HE DOESNT WATCH BLACKLIST ITS WHY HES NOT ON TWITTER HE GOES SHOOTS HIS SCENES AND GOES HOME. HE DOES NOT HANG OUT WITH ACTORS OR STAFF HE IS LIKE MANY ACTORS WHO PREFER TO AVOID THE SPOTLIGHT EXCEPT WHEN THE DIRECTOR SHOUTS, “ACTION”]
In his house, he says, “there is not a single television yet.” “I’ll move in soon, who knows if there will not be?” Jokes Spader, 57. “I do not know if this is not a paradox … I spend so much time, so many hours, [NOTICE HE KEEPS BRINGING UP HIS SHOOTING SCHEDULE? TRY MEMORIZING HIS DIALOGUE THE WINTER FINALE SHOWCASED SPADER FOR 21 MINUTES. THATS EXCESSIVE. He’d prefer ten maybe 8. 21 MINUTES LEAVES NO ROOM FOR ANYONE ELSE. FANS MAY BE FINE WITH THAT BUT SPADER ISNT. THATS OVERTIME] so many days, weeks and months to live within the television fiction and within the television drama … [SPADER IS TIRED. SPADER WANTS WHAT HE WAS PROMISED IN SEASON 1.I dedicate so much of my life to television as when I do not I’m working, I do not want to waste time with her, "he explains. [Her AS IN HIS GF? I would assume?]
Incidentally, probably not watching the fiction on the small screen is that James Spader does not have a formed and "objective” opinion on the evolution of the industry. “I do not know if I understand the business, I know it’s changing, it’s getting more involved and growing, it’s expanding in a dizzying way, [AND HERE COMES THE OAK TREE TO PROVIDE ENOUGH SHADE TO REACH LOS ANGELES] but it’s very complicated to be aware of what happens if we spend a lot of time working, [WORKING SHOOTING, NO TIME WITH HIS GF OR FAMILY NO TVS IN THE HOUSE DOESNT WATCH THE SHOW NOT ABSORBED IN RED ITS NOT HIM AND HES TIRED OF THE CHAOS-MY BELIEF, THE BAD WRITING. USING HIM TO FIX THE WRITING. USING HIS CHARACTER TO CARRY THE SHOW AND THE IMBALANCE TO THE SHOW] Which is my case, "he explains.
Compared to other NBC hit series such as This Is Us, Chicago Fire, Chicago Justice, or Timeless, [ALL THESE SHOWS HAVE BETTER RATINGS THAN THE BLACKLIST. THATS HOW BAD THE SHOW IS. WHEN ACTOR DOESNT USE THE EXCUSES OH, THERES MORE SHOWS ON TV, WE HAVE A BAD TIME SLOT, THE LIve 7 PPL WATCH-YEAH NO HE MAKES ZERO EXCUSES BECAUSE HE KNOWS.
ITS THE STORY TIER. HE WANTS IT TO GO BACK TO THE WAY IT WAS WHERE HE HAD LESS OF A SHOOTING SCHEDULE. SO FOR THOSE THAT SCREAM MORE RED AND LIZ AH THATS NOT WHAT SPADER WANTS. HE WANTS LESS.] The Blacklist ranks 13th among the 18 issued by the North American station. But it was once one of the biggest audiences. [BUT IT WAS ONCE ONE OF THE BIGGEST AUDIENCES. RECALL SALKE SAYING THE BLACKLIST IS POPULAR OVERSEAS? RECALL ME SAYING WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THE BAD WRITING SHOWS UP? When PRESS DO INTERVIEWS THEY GET TO VIEW THE SEASON EPISODES. THATS WHY THIS INTERVIEW HAS BLACKLIST ON ITS DEATHBED] The fourth season, currently on display in the US, debuted in September last year with 6397 million viewers. The most recent episodes were below five million. [A BLOW INDEED ALL BECAUSE OF TOM PIMPING, ARAM PIMPING, ELISE PIMPING ALEXANDER KIRK PIMPING, SARAM PIMPING KEEN2 PIMPING AND FINALLY PLOT DRIVEN STORY WITHOUT PIMPING THE THREE MAIN LEADS AS THE SMASH CREDITS INDICATE FOR A REASON: RED/LIZ/RESSLER. NO INTERACTION WITH THE MAIN LEADS REFLECTS THE RATINGS-THE WRITERS KNOW WHAT THEY DID THATS WHY THEY ARE SILENT AND SO DO THE ACTORS. CURRENT STORY DIRECTION SINCE 3B KILLED THE SHOW] A blow that has left the doubt in the air: will NBC cancel or renew the story? [TWO MILLION VIEWERS LOST AND COUNTING. EUROPE SENDING THE SIGNAL TO NBC AND THE SHOW:FIX IT]
Spader remains optimistic, and believes that what has so far kept this story on air "is a strange mix of things,” [HERE COMES THAT MASSIVE OAK TREE AGAIN JUST PLANT IT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE WRITERS ROOM OR ON TOP OF EISENDRATH'S DESK] including the fact that screenwriters are in Los Angeles [OMG WRITERS YOU ARE OUT OF TOUCH WITH THE MECHANICS OF NEW YORK AND OF COURSE BY THE TIME NY GETS THE SCRIPTS EDITS HAPPEN ADJUSTMENTS HAPPEN REGULARLY] and recordings take place in New York. “We do not even live our lives at the same time … [HE HATES HIS SHOOTING SCHEDULE DID I MENTION THAT? IF LA IS WRITING AT FOUR PM SPADER AND GANG ARE FILMING AT 7 PM OR 9 pm, OR TEN PM OR SIX AM OR 8 AM TO ACCOMODATE LOS ANGELES AND TO ACCOMODATE A SPIN OFF] The series is strange, sometimes surprising [SOMETIMES SURPRISING IOW HELL GET A GOOD SCRIPT LIKE CAPE MAY OR IN S3 IN MARVIN GERARD BUT MOST OF THE TIME ITS STAGNANT, PREDICTABLE AND PLOT DRIVEN] and intense, sometimes irreverent, [OAK TREE] sometimes passive [PASSIVE AGGRESSIVE] and still volatile.” [IOW IF THEY DO A 180 STORY FLIP BACK TO ITS As DIEGO SAID REGARDING S3 A MAGICAL FORMULA, NOT PLOT DRIVEN BS THE SHOW CAN LAST. BUT HE DOESNT WAX POETIC NOR DOES HE SUGARCOAT THE HYPE AND HE BRINGS UP IRREVERENT SOMETIMES? Yeah look it up. HES NOT HAPPY. ]
On the direction he would like to see the plot follow, [MAN I LOVE THIS YES JAMES WHAT PLOTLINE DO YOU WISH FOR BOKENKAMP AND EISENDRATH TO FOLLOW IM GOING TO GUESS ITS NOT KEEN 2 ITS NOT THE BABY, ITS NOT THIS ISOLATION OF THE LEADS AND HE NEVER MENTIONS RED AND LIZ NOTICE THAT?] the actor only says that “the most satisfying is when there is an abrupt change.” [ABRUPT CHANGE OR AS WE SAY IN THE INDUSTRY A 180 STORY FLIP. End KEEN2, SHAKE THINGS UP GO BACK TO RED/LIZ/RESSLER ENOUGH OF ARAM HES HAD THREE STORYLINES IN ONE YEAR AND TOM HAS HAD THE MOST EXPOSURE THAN ANY ACTOR COMBINED AND WHAT DID THEY GET? LOSS OF ADVERTISING 0.7! KEEP IN MIND IF TBL DEBUTS AT 0.8 ITS TOAST. It needs 1.0 TO STAY IN CONTENTION] “I think we’ve already been successful in that aspect and it was precisely these heights I most liked The Blacklist.”
[OY SPADER IS NOT HAPPY. FANS ARE NOT HAPPY ADVERTISERS AND NETWORK ARE NOT HAPPY AND NOW WRITERS ARE SILENT. FOR SPADER, ITS JUST A PAYCHECK NOW. BETTING ON RE WAS STUPID. GO BACK TO ORIGINAL STORY DIRECTION LIKE I SAID-A 180 STORY FLIP…SEEMS THATS EXACTLY WHAT SPADER WANTS: ABRUPT CHANGE AND IF THEY DONT DO IT AND LEAVE IT LIKE IT IS I DONT THINK HE WILL RENEW HIS CONTRACT BUT CONTINUE TO PLANT THAT MASSIVE OAK TREE .]

What is BUDDY-SCAPE
Let’s face it, Mark Fuckerberg is a bitch, and when I say “bitch” I mean he has a feminine look about him, not that I’m slating LGBT, if anything I’m all for it! Happy pride month to all those involved btw, neither am I slating women or being sexist, I love my wife very much, including my 3 mother’s and my adopted daughter, but yea, Fuckerberg is a complete ponce, he couldn’t organise a gangbang in a convent, Facebook may be an overall site for people to come and chat and make new friends, or is it? Ok let’s recap on the flaws with Facebook. 1-nudes There has been many complaints in the past where women have had conversations with a man they only just fucking met, next thing they know their inboxes or pms have been inundated with pics of the phallic symbol! No decent self respecting lady wants to see it, put it away or chop it off! 2-bullying Let’s be honest, we all have our share of enemies right? But you just wanna go online and chat. Unfortunately despite your privacy settings, the only option you have is the ignore messages features, but should you one day check your other message box to see if let’s say, a long lost family member who is not on your buddy list tries to contact you they can only get through on that other inbox, they don’t have a phone number or email address for you yet so what do they do? So you go check to see if they get in touch and bang, before you know it, your enemies have found you and your pms are full of hate-FUCKING FAIL. 3-Facebook is possibly the most controlling and manipulative of social media ever to hit this planet! Some people just want to make new friends, even with strangers, After all that’s how you make friends in the first place, The olive branch is delivered, the recipient decides to accept, and from there can determine a whole new social relationship, be it common ground, interests or hobbies right? On the other hand not everybody was to be social with strangers and may feel uncomfortable with that hand of friendship so they just may decline politely and walk away! Now Facebook is like that, But they got Add or Block. Now You will get some that will accept others might block you, But sometimes the Facebook algorithm will not even let you add people you have known for years, it will often issue warnings and if you try to make too many new friends it will restrict your account by what we often call Facebook jail, which is an algorithm put in place to limit people’s activity on this site, so really it’s the kind of social network that won’t let you be social. And who wants to be told who they can and can’t have as friends? Not something a British person wants to be told by an American is it? There is also a freedom of speech issue on here. Nobody wants to be trolled or told what to do by politically correct morons. But because of strict features in place on this site you can’t have an opinion, I have noticed incidents where someone has posted a perfectly innocent comment or photo on here, And some spiteful troll has reported it! Thing is Facebook is all automated, it doesn’t have moderators doing a Santa clause watching for who is naughty or nice, it has a bunch of codes and algorithms that tell it that. Or does it? People have been reported for posting something perfectly harmless as a pet pic or something else innocent, but along comes some spiteful bastard and it gets taken down for violating community standards! But you will get some dolly bird with a selfie showing a bit too much, and you try to report it, Facebook comes back with, it doesn’t go against our community standards, How fucked up is that? Now the upsides to Facebook jail is if you get a bully or someone doing something inappropriate on there they are sent to Facebook jail! Only problem is they are let out later to re-offend! 4-Inbox or Pm I have to give Facebook it’s due, It does completely filter out porn or nudity on the timeline, you try to post anything sexual on your main wall, be sure it will be taken down. But what about the personal messages? Five gets you ten that some of you or most of you on
here have had some kind of outside harrasment in PM! You have had porn bots, nudes, threats or other kinds of unpleasant stuff, you try to report it but before you get a chance to screen shot it as evidence, your cyber assailant has removed the message via this new fucking un-send button! Now un-send is quite handy if 1-you sent a pm to wrong person 2-you had a typing error Or 3-you sent a file or msg in error. But let me tell you the problem with it. As stated if you have had for example some perve showing off his dick, before you can get a chance to screenshot and report it he romved it, so really the un-send button is not very helpful! 5-privacy Facebook has had repeated issues regarding human rights and privacy. There’s been numerous reports where your data and accounts are leaked to third parties, this is unacceptable. 6-bots These are bloody pests that spam your inbox linking you to paid porn sites, scams or malicious content and malware and all because Facebook leaked your private data! Media Facebook never seems to pay much attention if you post your favourite music via YouTube. But what if you want to share a favourite song on your timeline in the form of an MP3? And why not? It worked for MySpace users! But try to do it on Facebook and they come down on you like a ton of bricks regarding copyright warnings! Now what puzzles me is years ago when Facebook was less than its greater size, they used to have a feature called sound bytes, you could upload an mp3 on Facebook, but then they took it off, they also took away good stuff like when they used to have an active chatroom app, bit strips and a few other kool apps they decided to fuck right off! And after all if you are just posting an mp3 of a song you like on your wall, and you don’t plan to make profit from it, then wtf is all this copyright bullshit anyway? 7-safety I personally don’t feel that Facebook is completely safe for anybody to be honest. It doesn’t have appropriate safeguards. Trolls will attack you sometimes on group pages just for having an opinion, and admins to not always take much notice, and if you get an admin that is in agreement with the trolls you are screwed! In the past Facebook has been a haven for Islamic groups to radicalise others on here to join terrorist networks and still is today! Facebook has been subject to crime related posts before now! 8-video calling Now this feature always bothered me. Ok you can go live on your timeline where your friends can see, but did you know other people can see you even if you don’t have your settings on public? This is because of privacy leakage and cyber criminals know your every move! Video in inbox is even worse, It’s a haven for perverts to put on a show and again is monitored by cyber criminals! This is why Skype and zoom are probably your best bet when video calling, sometimes WhatsApp and TikTok are not completely safe! 9 Lack of features I noticed that Facebook is kind of drying up when it comes to games and apps, also at the time it had an active chatroom, only thing is it was driven by flash player which generally now is obsolete! 10-ads All wel and good I suppose if you want to advertise a business to hundreds of people on Facebook yet it very seldom regards this as spam, or you will get the odd troll complaining that it is, yet if you try to post your service in multiple groups, Facebook will attribute this to spam and restrict you. This is because Facebook monetises itself with ads from all kinds of sources in and out of itself! So you dare not try to promote outside their promote ads feature-FAIL! So do you still love Facebook now? But consider this! Before you go slating something by someone, ignoring it or scrolling past it because your ego is to high and you think you are too good to sit up and take notice, I want you to bear something in mind! Now regardless of my 10 thoughts on the negative side of Facebook I can’t tell others not to go on it or twist their fucking arms up there backs to go elsewhere, But theres always this thing where you give something a
chance or a trial, and you never know you might actually like it, but if you don’t then at least you took it into account! There’s a lot of ignorance out there from people that slam something or dismiss it just because it’s something not well known, but if I recall right Mark Zuckerberg had not bargained on Facebook becoming the social giant it is now, he essentially developed it just as a network to go on the pull or for hookups! But look at it now, we all have to start somewhere right? So here goes! Imagine a new social network that does not control you. Would never tell you your limits unless you did something inappropriate. Would never allow porn anywhere. A network that has superior features such as apps, games, upload ability for audio and video, with new content added everyday? A network that you control. So I hereby present to you. BUDDYSCAPE What is Buddyscape? Buddyscape is an all new social network from the UK It was founded as a hobby just to see if I had what it took to build a social network, And make it run! It’s really only just starting out,so it’s not really well populated yet but who knows? Time will tell, always does! Rome was not built in a day but all roads lead to it! Features:- 1-No ads, porn or bots! 2-100% Non profit, all services are free! 3- No annoying ads! 4-Buddyscape is monitored by real people-yes real human beings! Non of this stupid bloody code stuff, but although we cannot monitor your private chats, We do expect you to tell us if something is wrong! 5-No Facebook jail here-just 3 warnings and an instant ban thereafter! 6-better safety This goes for adults and minors, if anybody feels somebody is making them uncomfortable or unsafe then one word from you will result in an instant ban,And thanks to no un-send feature you have ample time to screenshot evidence and send it to us for examination from the appropriate authorities! 7- Privacy is paramount We do not use your personal data We do not sell it or pass it on! We don’t even use bloody cookies! 8-No video calling This is more of a safety feature than anything else, And should be regarded as a better experience for both adults and children, and as we do not monitor private chats we can’t tell what is going on, although the lack of video calling features on Buddyscape may deter some from wanting to join, It will also deter those who have sexual intentions toward adults and children. And with other video calling apps like zoom or Skype it’s not really important for it to be there! 9-Friendly to all devices and easy to navigate! There isn’t an app of this on AppStore or play store right now, but one is in process of development! That being said, Buddyscape is fully mobile and tablet friendly with all features running as they should! 10-content Buddyscape has Apps, Games and a chatroom with content updating almost every day! You may upload any music or media you like as long as it is relatively clean! Also includes Spotify integration! See Terms and conditions when signing up. Any questions? Give me a shout! Investing into my future (Blog 11)
This week has been a really busy week in terms of trying to enhance my professional practice as I've interviewed a secondary school teacher, a primary school headmaster and visited design studio Bowden and Dolphin signs.
Laura Taylor - Hazelbury primary school head teacher.
Tumblr media
My favourite interview by far was with head teacher Laura Taylor from Hazelbury primary school. What I find most fascinating about Laura was that she is the second youngest primary head teacher in country, pipped to the post only by a couple of days, and successfully runs the largest primary school in London having to handle a budget of millions of pounds. Laura like me didn't do a full three year teaching degree but chose to do a PCGE. She told me each university request different things and it's important to look at what they want. For example, Warwick asked her to talk about how she would use a children's book in a lesson and what activities she could build off it before having a one to one interview. The university of Leicester approached the interview process really differently however, as she had to act out a poem which Laura said played a lot more to her strengths as it was all about delivering. Therefore when I look at universities I need to ensure that I choose a course that suits my style and one that plays to my strengths. For example I am better at speaking than I am writing so a fully written interview would not play to my strengths. Like me, Laura didn't know what to do, she didn't want to limit herself to a full teaching degree and therefore chose to do a psychology which can be applied to a lot of jobs. I asked her why she chose primary as opposed to secondary as I haven't closed the option of being secondary school teacher and she said she just felt more comfortable with younger students. However, after you're qualified as a teacher you can in fact change to secondary which I was delighted to hear as I know the option is always open as I don't want to limit myself.
Laura then went on to explain that she didn't find it hard getting a job, she said most schools advertise really early to get there staff before September so you more than likely will have a job rapped up by summer, the top tip being to apply early around January time which is when she sends out her job vacancies. Before becoming head teacher Laura has worked as a teacher in three different schools. A  1 form, 3 form and 5 form entry school. She explained how with he bigger schools there's a lot more support from other teachers and you can work more as a team with lesson planning and share the work load whereas with the 1 form entry school she was very independent. However, she went onto say this made her a better teacher as she had to think for herself and therefore was a lot more confident than a lot of other newly qualified teacher (NQT's). I need to think about this in the future if I choose to go down the teaching route as it's important to choose the right school for me in which I can develop as a person and will therefore look around schools to get a feel for it before applying.
Laura's journey was very fast track, within about 5 years she progressed from a teacher, to head of a year group, to assistant head, to deputy head and then to head teacher all before she was 30. Her level of responsibility grew and grew. However, she did miss the relationships with the children and actually teaching. For this reason I wouldn't be interested in becoming a head teacher as I want to be a teacher to actually teach not to be in charge. Finally I asked Laura what she loved and hated about the job and the loves definitely outweighed the hates. No days are the same, job security, you can progress in pay and theres a good salary as well as holidays but what excited me the most is when she said you can be as creative as you want. As having creativity as a transferable skill, I would use this immensely in the class room. Laura said for one project she even did a 'dragons den' module where the children came up with their own business plan and had to run and pitch it. They made enough money to be taken to a sports centre for a ski lesson for their next sports module. This made me really want to seriously look at being a teacher as creativity is a massive part of me and I therefore think I would be good at coming up with imaginative lessons. Although Laura also commented on the work load and pressure to get results she wouldn't change anything about the job.
Overall this interview really helped me think about my future as whilst I was talking to Laura I could really imagine myself in her role, teaching children. It made me really happy to finally find a career path that excited me and one in which I could imagine myself. To top the interview off Laura offered me work experience in her school in London and offered to look through any further applications thus providing me a great platform in which to network and build from.
Top Tips I've taken from the interview:
-look at the course before you apply - different courses suit different people therefore it is essential to find out that best suits you -apply early for jobs -  after graduating it is vital that you apply for jobs as soon as possible to ensure you have a job when it comes to September -look around schools before applying to see if it suits me and is somewhere in which I can develop.
Eddie Rowberry - Head of the design faculty at Hall Green School.
Tumblr media
I chose to spoke to Eddie as like me he studied a design course at university. He chose to become a teacher and works in a high school, therefore I felt it was good research for me as if I were to work in a high school I would teach the same as him. Eddie studied a Higher National Diploma  (HND) before doing a Graduate Teacher Programme (GTP) which is like an apprenticeship of teaching, which is something I need to look into. He chose to do this as it meant he could spend more time in the classroom with students as opposed to in a lecture hall and got paid to do it at the same time. Eddie worked in a city studio as a photographer and digital artist as well as a freelance graphic designer which he still does now before becoming a teacher. I would love to do something like this, go into design and then go into teaching as sometimes I feel my design potential may go to waste if I become a teacher. He also went on to say he found it really easy getting a job as a teacher as he worked really hard. Working as a trainee engineer before going to university enabled him to understand what it takes to be a hard worker. This emphasises how important it is to get experience as employers look for a rounded candidate so this is really encourages me to start looking for experience. Even if it's not the field of work I want to go into it's all good to put on my CV. When I asked Eddie what he loved about the job he said 'The freedom to be creative. Teaching is tough but it certainly isn't boring'. Again the word 'creative' really excites me as I'm a very creative person and I want to put these talents to good use. Like Laura, the only down side he said about teaching is the work load, the emails and spreadsheets he has to fill out but he also said it was worth it. Eddie then offered me work experience as his school in Birmingham which I will definitely take him up on, as experience will help me develop as a person and will develop my skills and CV.
Top Tips
- look at studying a GTP - A GTP is 'on the job' training within a single school. It is aimed at professionals who want to change their career but need to earn a salary as they train. I don't think this would suit me as I want to have experience in a number of schools which a PGCE offers and I want to do my teaching degree straight after graduation. get experience - the same theme of experience keeps reoccurring, it's vital to gain work experience and will help me choose what direction I want to go in.
Bowden and Dolphin signs - Andy Dolphin, Project manager.
Tumblr media
Bowden and Dolphin signs is a signage company that offers a service from small signs, to large signs providing everything from the sign design to the manufacturing process. I met up with Andy Dolphin, project manager at Bowden and Dolphin designs who started running the business in 2000. Andy studied traditional sign writing at Nuneaton technical college before working for the family company. He explained that the industry first used to be all hand painted signage which involved drawing lines and then painting over it with a brush and stick. However, now he employs 10 staff as well as sub contractors (one of which is from Malta) to produce signs for businesses such as Aston Villa, and Sulko (a builders warehouse.) A lot of the time design agencies will provide the file with the design on and they simply manufacture it, however, time to time they do design the signage if they are asked to. Andy explained that regular customers make up 80% of their cliental which they always respond to so they don't risk losing them. The other 20% they pick and choose, depending if the job is sparse and if it is worthwhile to them. His favourite ever project was when he worked for the Bullring shopping centre in Birmingham developing all the holdings and displays for the shopping centre when it was first built. When I went to their studio the signage I liked the best was for Stratford upon Avon's new shopping centre
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I really loved the vibrant bright green background paired with the bold, well kerned text gives it a quirky, fun feel. I also really like the image placement as it's not directly in the middle which makes it interesting and modern therefore appealing to a young audience like myself. This studio visit was really useful, I got to see what it was like working in industry. It was fascinating that despite everyone doing different jobs they all worked in unison as a team. As the pictures show, the studio was very industrial, which isn't the sort of environment I want to work in if I do pursue a career in design. I would want to be in a more design based studio, however, If I need signage made in the future I now have increased my network and fully understand how it would be manufactured.
Tumblr media
Pictures taken at Bowden and Dolphin.
Andy talking about hand written signage inspired me to see if anyone still worked like this and I found Bruce Crowes (http://bristolartcollective.com/welcome-bruce-crowes/) who specialises in hand drawn signage.
Tumblr media
Bruce Crowes - Hand drawn signage.
I love his work as I am a massive advocate of anything handmade. I love his bold style and dynamic angles which he works with. I can really appreciate the time and effort that goes into his work and feel it's a lot more meaningful than digital text. I love the fact despite its decline he continues to use this technique, and it encourages me that there are people out there that continue to use the old fashion ways of design.
