You've Got Me Forever - Ross Macdonald One Shot
A/n: something I just whipped up in about 10 minutes because I woke from having dreams about this glorious man and just had to write one down. It's not been proof read so please don't hate me
Fluff, spelling and grammar mistakes
He stands by the door to his bedroom, resting against the frame, it's cold against his bare back but he doesn't falter, doesnt flinch. His eyes remain on her, sitting in just his Tshirt and a pair of panties, an acoustic guitar resting in her lap as she sits cross legged.
She fiddles with the strings for a second, completely unaware that he's been standing watching her the entire time. She begins strumming a familiar song, playing the chords effortlessly. He has to hold in a gasp as her voice then fills the room.
"So I heard, you found, somebody else" she sings. Ross' mouth falls open, shocked that the girl he had been spending months with now, was revealing something about her that he didn't know, something huge. She could sing and was amazing at it too.
"And at first, I thought, it was a lie" she was completely wrapped up in the music and he couldn't help but smile, heart beating twice as fast in his chest. They had spent every waking moment they could with each other for 6 months (going on dates on and off for two months before that mainly due to his busy schedule), she joined them on tour when she could (her own job making it pretty easy for her to do so), he spent every minute of his time off with her and their families and they quickly fell in love.
He had her in his life for 6 whole months and was yet to discover this about her. Every day he spent with her he learnt something new, something that made him want her more, something that made him realise she was his person.
"I took all my things, that make sounds, the rest I can do without" he remembers Matty saying to him once that some people have to really work on singing and some people just get it. She just got it. Her voice was effortless, her tone was beautiful, her voice never wavered or cracked, a small fact that let him knew she must have done this a lot. They had spoken about their mutual passion for music, she explained that she had been playing guitar since she could remember, but she failed to mention this.
"I don't want your body, But I hate to think about you with somebody else" she sings. She stops after that, fingers pausing on the strings.
"Can feel you staring you know" she says, eyes flicking up from the strings to the man in the doorway. He simply smiles at her and she smiles back.
"Darling..." Hjs next words fail him and she stares back, waiting for him to say something, anything.
"You never told me you could sing" he says, large frame coming to find her on the bed. She simply shrugs at his words, placing the guitar onto the floor lightly.
"You're amazing" he says, she moves herself so she's draped over him, legs either side of his thighs. His hands instinctively move to her hips, holding her in place. Her hands find his shoulders, the muscle contracting under her touch.
"I've been singing since I was 2" she says matter of factly.
"And you didn't feel like telling me that?" He chuckles. She shrugs again and it makes him chuckle, his hand finds her jaw pulling her towards him for a brief kiss.
"Singing... It... Frees me" she explains "But... I like to keep it to myself, it's my own little thing you know, people don't need to know that" she says and he nods along fo her words.
"I appreciate that... But baby a talent like yours can't just be hidden... Everyone needs to know how good you are" he says and she shakes his head at him.
"No they don't" she smiles at him "I don't tell anyone, I prefer it that way, I don't need to tell anyone it's like my secret, you're lucky I shared it with you" she laughs and his face falls, suddenly looking at her very seriously.
"Thank you" he says, if this was something she kept to herself, he was unbelievably thankful she allowed him to know.
"But I will... With some persuasion... Sing for you if you liked it so much... Just for you" she says and he smiles widely at her again.
"You must really like me" he jokes. She simply smears her lips to hers, playing with the hairs covering his chin, before pulling away.
"You're alright" she says making him laugh, flipping them easily as his hands encapture her waist, tickling her. Her giggles fill the room and soon he's laughing too, until eventually their stomachs hurt too much and they have to stop.
So he rests in-between her thighs, one of which has hooked over him, keeping him there. He holds himself up by his elbows as his right hand moves the hair from her eyes.
"I'm going to marry you one day" he says simply as she smiles at him.
"You better, otherwise I might have to kill you... Can't have you going on about how good of a singer your ex-girlfriend was" she says making him laugh above her.
"You'd want to marry me?" He asks. He had always struggled navigating relationships with his job, but with her it was never complicated, in fact it was one of the easiest things either of them had ever done. They just made it work and she was the most understanding person about his career. But he was ever the worrier and despite plenty of reassurance from her, he still doubted that she wanted him: all of him forever.
"If you'd have me, of course. Thought you knew that by now" she says, placing a gentle peck to his lips.
"You worry too much Macdonald" she says, pushing the hair from his eyes now. "I'm not going anywhere, no matter what we'll make it work" she says and he nods down at her.
"And one day you'll marry me. You promise?" He says making her chuckle.
"I promise" she seals it with a kiss.
He had found his person and he was so unbelievably lucky and ecstatic it was her. Someone who loved him fiercely, loved him for every part of him (even the parts he wasn't too fond of). Someone who seemed to not give a shit about rumours or tabloids because she trusted him and knew he was her person too. Someone who supported him through every adventure he had, had so far in the time they had known each other and someone who would go on to support through every other one.
"You've got me forever you know that right?" She asks and he nods.
"I love you" he says simply, pressing a firm kiss to her mouth.
"I love you more Ross Macdonald"

1. Are you named after anyone? My middle name, Jean, is after my dad’s mother’s name. My initials & last name is also the same name as an Australian recycling company, JJ Richards. 😆
2. When’s the last time you cried? Last week. I’ve been feeling a bit flat since the cold weather arrived but I’m pretty sure I’m experiencing early menopause so my emotions are a bit all over the place lately. 🙂😭😠😆
3. Do you have kids? Nope. I decided long ago I didn’t want kids and was lucky enough to find a life partner who doesn’t want them either.
4. Do you use sarcasm a lot? Nope. Sarcasm is an odd humor and I get it, but I prefer to just be funny instead of sarcastically funny. 😜
5. What sports do you play/have you played? I’ve played netball and horse-riding. At the moment I only walk or go running and sometimes lift light weights, and sometimes swim once a week. Swimming is very therapeutic for me.
6. What's the first thing you notice about other people? Eyes, hair, clothes
7. Eye color? Green
8. Scary movies or happy endings? Both, but I’m not really into those soppy happy endings. I also love Sci-fi movies!
9. Any special talents? Horse-riding, I feel like that is a talent. I can also run in high heels.
10. Where were you born? Australia
11. What are your hobbies? Reading and learning about space and the universe. Stargazing, simming, tumblr, playing around in photoshop with my sim posts, organizing my sims pre-made gameplay spreadsheet, watching movies & TV series.
12. Do you have any pets? Yes. We have three chihuahua's, Sniffs (male), Squish & LouLou (females). Two sheep, Sherbet (f) and Sheldon (m), and 15 Belgian de’uccle chickens. The sheep & chickens are originally my partners pets and I like to keep it that way. 😄 I do look after them when he goes away on birding photography trips but I’ve just never bonded well with them.
13. How tall are you? 5.10 or 11 I think. People have always told me ‘Oh you’re so tall’ and I guess I was back then for a teenage girl but now a days being tall does not seem so out of the ordinary.
14. Fave subject in school? Hurts my brain to think back that far, but English, Pottery & Art. I once got a B+ on my Art exam which was the highlight of my entire schooling.
15. Dream job? I stopped dreaming of my dream job years ago and have accepted my position in this life as an office zombie. 🧟♀️

When was the last time you cried? - I just now realized that I haven’t cried in a long time, that I can’t even remember.
Do you have kids? - not
Do you use sarcasm a lot? - Only in relation to myself
What sports do you play/have you played? - I do not play sports, although I think in the future I will do it
What’s the first thing you notice about other people? - It is difficult to answer, probably on the hairstyle and eyebrows, clothes. I especially stick on the eyebrows of men, for some reason they turn me on ... and nails! I also like men's hands.
Scary movies or happy endings? - Probably none of these
Any special talents? - Here I could sell myself, saying how much talent I have, but I don't know?? Basically, this is always work that I finish already at the beginning, if it is very difficult and something does not work out. Let it be vocals, poetry and perhaps screenshot processing, which I no longer do. And also the talent to burn your life.
Where were you born? - I was born and live in Russia in the Urals
What are your hobbies? - It always seemed to me that I had few hobbies, but when I leafed through the dating profiles, many noted such simple things there that it turns out that there are a lot of my hobbies, I just depreciated them. Sometimes I read books, sometimes I write poetry (although not always in rhyme), I go to vocals, I go for walks, sometimes I play sims, or other games, if my hands reach it. Sometimes once every hundred years I give myself and my sister a manicure.
Do you have any pets? - Personally, I don’t, but my family has a dog and a cat
How tall are you? - I'm not very lucky, I'm not tall - 1.65 cm

Happy happy birthday @tackytigerfic!!!! After so many recs and lists it was hard to come up with an original idea to celebrate your day but I was inspired by our darling @sweet-s0rr0w’s collaborative reclists and we thought it would be fun to ask our common friends about their Tacky faves, those fics that hold a special place in their heart for personal reasons. The result is this reclist that made me tear up just thinking of how much I love each fic carefully picked, especially after reading those heartfelt and spot-on commentary. It totally draws you in to every world Harry dreams of, until they feel as real to you as a reader as they do to him, and then you get the sweet ache of reality and his realisation of what he might have.”

Featuring lots of cigarettes, a Midsummer sky, close encounters in a bath, and plenty of fireworks.
“When I think of Tacky’s writing the first things that comes to mind are beautiful prose, gorgeous, evocative imagery and character dynamics that are always so fascinating and deftly written. Even the Night has all of these things and has also been a comfort read that I come back to very often, especially when I need a good cheering up. I love how soft and dreamy the atmosphere is, and despite it only being only 3k words, the universe feels so rich and evocative all the same. I love how subtle and nuanced their characterisation here is- we feel and see so much more as this was a first person POV, and just sensing how strong their yearning for each other in Tacky’s beautiful words are just *chefs kiss*.
My favourite part is their coming together, as it was very sweet and felt very *them*. The gentleness, the vulnerability and deep care and love that they have for each other in that scene is always enough to reduce me into an emotional teary blob (but hey, who am I kidding, that’s essentially me with all of Tacky’s writing!)”

Modern Love (Explicit, 61k) 🎼
Harry Potter, of all people, knows that life isn’t always fair. And no one gets to be happy all of the time. But surely there’s something more—something better—than a rubbish Ministry job, and a lonely old house, and that feeling that everyone out there is doing a better job of living than Harry is. And it really doesn’t seem fair that Draco Malfoy is back in Harry’s life, all of a sudden, and even though he’s wandless, and living with Muggles, and making his mother cry with his lifestyle choices, he’s happy. So what's he doing right, that Harry isn’t?
“Reccing this fic feels a bit like sitting down in front of an abbey full of monks and recommending they check out this hot new book called The Bible. What I mean by that is both that Modern Love is a fundamental religious text in the canon of Drarry (complete with hot priest, thanks very much Tacky) but also that I think most of us have probably read it, and to rec it in the normal sense would be very “do not cite the deep magic to me, witch” vibes. Y’all know. We’ve all inked a page of the illuminated manuscript. Gutenberg is in all of our Twitter circles, and he’s printing honey. So I’m not going to sit here and try to sell you, the reader of this rec, in the year 2022, on The Bible. Instead I’d like to talk a little bit about what this fic meant to me while reading, and what it still makes me feel, months later.
The thing about Modern Love is, reading it made me feel exactly the same way I felt the first time I heard the song Modern Love. I remember sitting in a theatre in Manhattan, way uptown, one of those theatres where everyone else is average age 97 and the snacks are old, easily digestible cookies and paper cups of water. I was seeing Frances Ha, and it was the scene where the titular Frances dances down the street to this song. I’d somehow missed that Bowie song before seeing that movie, and so the audio and visual are now impenetrably melded together in my mind so that every time I hear that song, no matter what context it’s in, I think of someone being so full of emotion and vivacity and so very alive that they can’t just walk down the street—they have to dance. They have to twirl, and throw their hands out, and leap. Reading Modern Love made me feel the same way.
Because you don’t just read a Tacky fic. I mean, fundamentally, if you want to be literal about it, of course you do. But the experience of reading a Tacky story is not as simple as being carried from one word to the next until a sentence is complete, and then a second sentence, and a third, until you have a paragraph. Reading Tacky’s words, you’re compelled to run, to jump, to twist and turn and leap and grin and devour. I keep starting this next sentence as “And watching Modern Love…” because it doesn’t feel like I read it. It feels like I watched it. It feels like I lived it, deep inside of me, and carry it with me wherever I go.
Watching/reading Modern Love… you’re in London with our lads. You’re finding a purpose, you’re discovering meaning, you’re experiencing what it is to be alive, the splendor of making mistakes and looking foolish and falling in love. You remember the joy in being steadfast and determined and then, also, soft and vulnerable, in doing things that mean something, even if no one else notices. And if that’s not worth dancing about, I don’t know what is. Much love to you Tacky. Happy birthday! You’re so special and it is truly an honor to have you writing with us. How’d we get so lucky?”

What would happen if Harry Potter and Draco Malfoy moved in together, too soon after they started kissing and then fucking and not hating each other anymore? Will Draco insist on a wine rack? Or: Domestic Drarry with a bare hint of angst.
“One of my faves of Tacky’s is Through the Window, Clear Skies. It’s in essence a love letter to Draco, and it’s both gorgeously lyrical and refreshingly plain-speaking in perfect measures. And also just fills me with so much happiness for Harry, going for what he wants despite what anyone else thinks about it, about his joy at the fact that he and Draco enjoy the same ‘nice things’ and are a little team, and just *have* each other.

Last Book/Fic Abandoned: There is this very long fic that I divided in two parts. I finished posting the first part around a year ago and the response was mostly negative. The fact that it was the most sentimental thing I had done and that by knowing so it also made me feel like it was garbage, didn't help, so although the second part was almost finished I never posted it. It has been finished for half a year now but ehhhhh. I think it's the only fic I've "abandoned" and all my fics are on anon so I won't say it's name although I think some people might have their suspicions.
Last Thing Researched for Art: Not sure if "Louise Bourgeois hands" or "Odilon Redon eyes" but very sure it was one of those.
Favorite Online Fandom Moments: Don't know exactly what is meant by this, so sorry if I misunderstood. With that said, I rarely feel as much serotonin as when I have had a mutual create something based on a conversation we had or something I wrote. I've been very lucky when it comes to that and am eternally grateful to my very talented mutuals. It feels like a gift and I'm only embarrassed by not knowing how to express that gratefulness.
Favorite Old Fandom I Wish Had A Resurgence: This is not very difficult because I have only been active in one fandom before, so Arcane I guess.

Thanks to @writingamongther0ses and @mariahwritesstuff for the tags. This is the first one of these out of two. Placing the rest under a readmore because it's going to get long. Oh and I'm nicking the idea of an extra-planar interviewer from @blind-the-winds because that will help me warm up the writing muscles for later. I'm answering these as of current fiction.

[Fangthane, Titan. It's the middle of the afternoon in a small interview room in the Inquisitorial Headquarters across the street from the Cathedral of Kherillim. High Inquisitor, Meredith Bloodvein, is sitting across from a dark, shifting figure calling themselves The Interviewer.]
Interviewer: I appreciate your setting aside time out of your day to humour me.
Meredith: Aye, well, ye're lucky I had some time available. Now hurry it up, I've no' got all day!
1. Are you named after anyone?
Not as far as I ken. I asked my da about it once, he said something about having a feeling about the name once I was born and mum went along with it.
2. When was the last time you cried?
That's... a good question actually. I think it was when Gavid first started speaking. Hearing yer child say 'mammy' for the first time is not something ye can be adequately prepared for y'ken?
3. Do you have kids?
I just mentioned that I had one, but I'll humour ye. Just the one so far. No idea how many I'll end up with in the end, could only be two or three or upwards of five. We'll see how Yoruk feels about it once things have settled down some more.
4. Do you use sarcasm?
It's pretty much a second language 'round these parts. My folks tried to cut down on it when they started having children. By the time I came along, they'd pretty much given up on the idea entirely. It doesn't help when folk that aren't dwarves think ye're constantly being sarcastic just because of the accent when ye're speaking in Common.
5. What's the first thing you notice about people?
*taps the side of her head* These days it's usually the aura, I can't exactly turn that off anymore, but I can choose to ignore it. Generally speaking, it's the body language. Ye can tell a lot about a person by the way they hold and conduct themselves and make a generalised judgement afore they even open their mouths.
6. What's your eye color?
Dark blue.
7. Scary movies or happy endings?
*once the concept of a movie is explained* Oh, then it'll be the happy endings. I've seen a wee bit too much in my life to want any more horrific things in it, never mind watching it play out for entertainment. I'm not even into my first century yet and I've experienced enough trauma to last several human lifetimes.
8. Any special talents?
Aye, I'm a Shaper so I can manipulate actual Creation magic. Not that I do it very often because it's difficult to properly control and there's not much of it around on the material plane. up 'til now I've only used it in any serious manner twice, almost thrice.
9. Where were you born?
Fangthane born and raised. More specifically, my mum had to be rushed off to the Cathedral's infirmary rather than having a home birth as with my older siblings. Apparently I got bored and decided I wanted to see what the fuss about the world was about two months too early.
10. What are your hobbies?
I don't usually have a lot of time to spend on hobbies, but I eventually took up embroidery so I had something to do with my hands when I was forced onto maternity leave early *mutters* godsdamned bloody cultists.
11. Have you any pets?
Pets aren't really a thing here. A few folk keep bats and we sometimes get rangers with their animal companions passing through, but most dwarves don't bother with animals.
12. What sports do you play/have played?
Aside from a bit of kickball when I was a wee lass, I haven't had time for sports since I started training as an acolyte.
13. How tall are you?
*grumbles* 3 feet 11 inches. No idea how, both my folks and my grandparents were of average, dwarven height (which is between 4'5" and 4'9")
14. Favorite subject in school?
I loved the combat classes during my training. Ok, so the drill were exceedingly boring, but I enjoyed having the opportunity to move around and to beat the crap out of the folk that teased me for bein' such a short-arse. I also enjoyed the history lessons, though the fact that ye have to sit still meant that it wasn't my favourite at the time, but I appreciate what I learned. Especially since it put a lot of what happened in the lead up to Ragnarok into context.
15. Dream job?
I'm lucky enough to be doing it now. Well, I hadn't expected to make High Inquisitor quite this soon, but I was certainly enamoured with the role of Inquisitor at a fairly young age.

Ohh boy, I’d say drawing, reading, tumblr media meta shit, baking, language learning, and lock picking - things I wouldn’t consider hobbies since I’m shit at practicing them but am still passionate about: banjo, guitar, writing, and magic tricks. I’m probably forgetting stuff, they tend to come and go.
Have any pets?
A very special kitty. Her kidneys are old and not doing so good, so she’s probably going to go this year. She’s hanging out with me as I type this.
What sports do you play/have you played?
I try to do something self defense related when I can. I’d really like to get competent at boxing. I would also love to take some dance.

My future feels so so up in the air rn, I’m feeling a bit paralyzed. I’ve been contemplating throwing myself into something self-sustainable, like a tattoo artist or even practicing more shit I can do to earn some tips with random crowds if it really comes down to it.. I’ve been eyeing some trade apprenticeships. Umm, but if we’re dreaming? I honestly I would really like to do something fun and social, like something in theatre for a while, improv? plays? and then move onto something less grueling and unhealthy. Maybe making elaborate art instillations, like in MeowWolf, would be really great. If we’re REALLY shooting for the moon, then a very lucky lazy investor.
Oh I WILL say if I were to develop a magic routine, I’d really like to have a lifting element to it. It’s not the most practical with today’s clothing and items we tend to have on us, and it has the potential to make the volunteer very angry, but I’m just so ridiculously charmed by it idk.

6. What artists inspire you right now?
There is a lot of course, I follow a lot of artists on here in hermitcraft fandom and not and there is SO many talented people. A big one is probably @/wasyago, love their character design, colours and just art in general to pieces! I knew them for a bit even before they made a tumblr acc so it was very cool to see them become better and better through time! ohh its a hard one there is so many. I would just name some or it will go on for a while! @/daftaiyo, @/sss-eriema, @/cosmic-nopedog, @/shepscapades, @/weaselmcdiesel, @/applestruda, @/potionofinstantdamage, @/stiffyck, @/tibby-art, @/aresonist, @/sickcroww30, probably many more but if i was to name all of them it would just. I would spend like two hours on that and i have work to do unfortunately. Anyway, love those peoples to pieces! I may look a bit biased because most of those are my mutuals...... I am just very lucky to have so many such talanted mutuals! )
14. How has your art changed over the years?
This one is hard mostly cause, I think my art changed very gradually? Like i think my style pretty much stayed the same "roundish" as people called it like 4 years ago and now all the same. The biggest change is the skill growth and i think the biggest like, visible change was when i started drawing mcyt and started to draw people with like, actual muscles and normal weight and not tiniest waists ever imagined and just generaly more diverse-looking. For a lot of that i can say thank you to dsmp artists that inspired me at the time, it was a very positive change
15. Biggest artist pet peeve?
When you just feel in your guts that something is wrong with the anatomy on the drawing but don't know what. Like in theory you made everything right anatomically but something is just off.

✍ Do you have a beta reader?
I have been lucky to have some wonderful friends with whom I share drafts and who share drafts with me. I haven't had a beta for every fic I've posted, but when I have, it's been wonderfully helpful. Especially when I've gotten really deep in my own head about a fic, having an outside perspective helps me get perspective on what's working and what could be clearer.
🙋♀️ Do any irl people know you write fanfic?
Yes, actually! I was very private about it at first, but I've since undergone the Mortifying Ordeal of Having Your AO3 Pseud Known with my partner and with some close friends who also write fic (a pact of mutually assured destruction lol). And I've also met a dear, dear fandom friend IRL now, so I have had the pleasure to share the experience from both sides.
🌞 Do you have a preferred time of day to write?
I am a night writer, which has gotten increasingly unfortunate as I've gotten older. XD I do still have occasional pockets of good writing energy during the day, but there's something about those final hours - when I have the slight pressure of needing to go to bed and I'm no longer expecting emails - that lets me really dial in and get absorbed.
💞 Who's your comfort character?
I wrote in a previous post about why I love writing Cody, so I'll pick an MCU answer for this one and say it makes my heart really, really warm to write and read Natasha Romanov. She's so sharp and funny, and she knows how to use her powers of perception either to offer that one specific kind of support you can accept when you're in a mood or else to knife your enemies in a way they'll never see coming. And I think her real superpower isn't actually her talent for deception or even her incredible athleticism but her ability to endure more pain than anyone would expect.
🥰 How do you feel about reader interaction? Are you open to receiving questions about your fics?
Oh, hearing from readers is an incredible gift, and readers being curious about a story and wanting to hear more about what went into making it: that's unbelievably generous and so very precious. I'm deeply grateful for all the time readers spend with fics: sharing imaginative worlds together is one of the great joys of life. (And your comments are a very special source of joy for me!!!)
