Gravity Falls
Dead End
Puss in Boots and the last wish
Into the Spiderverse
Then I have a movie for you!!
Tumblr media
Nimona is a movie coming out tomorrow, June 30th that’s been 7 years in the making! It’s based off the tumblr webcomic turned best-selling graphic novel of the same title.
It was originally being made by Blue Sky Studios and was going to have a theatrical release aimed around 2021, but after Disney acquired them and shut the studio down the film was scrapped. The movie was only about 10 months away from being finished, and it was shut down after Disney execs had pushed back against the queer themes/characters in the movie. BUT, Annapurna studios picked the film back up and finished it!!
Onto the film itself!
The movie follows Nimona, a spunky shapeshifter who teams up with the knight Ballister Boldheart (previously Ballister Blackheart in the graphic novel) after he was framed for a crime he didn’t commit and sent on the run. His ex-boyfriend, Ambrosius Goldenloin, is tasked with hunting them down, but is conflicted between fulfilling his duty and his feelings.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The animation style is stunning and dynamic, and the visuals are so so good!! I would highly recommend checking out the movie and supporting it when it comes out, this is a big step for stylized animation and also queer rep in animation as well!
But the best part is that it just looks like an amazing movie!!

It seems the Nimona fandom has decided that Ballister is god and the best at everything, and I'm here to fix that, so here's a list of things I think Ambrosius would be better at than (or on the same level as) Ballister (this is about the movie versions, feel free to add your own or argue in the reblogs):
Cooking 🍳: after he saw Ballister cooking for himself for the first time, Ambrosius took interest (it was also a major reality check for him. He started learning on his own and took some classes, primarily because he wanted to impress Ballister and feel like he was good enough for him. On their first date, Ambrosius took Ballister on a picnic, all the food was made by Ambrosius himself. He also partially learned how to cook BC of his allergy.
Socialising: he hates it, but he can do it, with Bal it's a problem of anxiety, with Amb it's a problem of will.
Botany 🌿, zoology 🐺, and psychology🧠: Bal has a better grip in biology, chemistry, maths, engineering, and physics, but when it comes to behaviour patterns, Amb is better (botany is because it's something Amb is extremely passionate about)
Which brings us to gardening 🧑‍🌾: partly because I want to believe that Amb still has some similarities to his comic counterpart.
Long range combat: Bal has hand to hand and short range combat in the bag, but in long range combat Ambrosius is better (he underperformed in some of his tests on purpose so they couldn't kick Ballister out)(that's also why they're the dream team). He's also better with long range weapons (archery and sniper guns)
Reading 📗: Bal and Amb have about the same level of reading comprehension, but Ambrosius can read slightly faster.
Kids 🧒: Amb and Bal have the same level of skill in handling kids, but when it comes to levels of popularity, the closer to the outskirts you are, the more popular Bal is and vice versa, the closer you are to the central city, the more popular Ambrosius is.
Dancing 💃: when it comes to the club, they have roughly the same dancing skills, but Amb isn't as shy, when it comes to partner dancing (ballroom and Latin) Amb is better.
Walk in heels 👠: Bal can do this, but still struggles a little when it's 4 inch heels or longer, Amb can handle high heels without even the slightest bit of a struggle.
Diplomacy: Bal has the ideas, Ambrosius does the talking.
Social media: I think this one is self explanatory, Ambrosius has a better hang on how social media works.
Humour 😂: Ambrosius is deemed objectively funnier because his humour is adaptive (his entire personality was perfectly curated to appeal to as many people as possible).
Now for the less safe for work
Drinking 🍸: I wanna believe Amb is slightly better at holding his alcohol, just because.
Kissing 💋: Amb is slightly more experienced, and communicative, while Bal is still learning what he prefers.
Bedroom 🛏️: see above mention. Bal and Amb were each other's first time, but Amb is better at communicating and is more flexible (he can switch positions easily, set the mood, dirty talk, dominate, submit, etc)

Troy Quane and Nick Bruno on queer representation and mental health in Nimona
I attended a Q and A with Troy Quane and Nick Bruno, the directors of Nimona, four days ago. I tried to transcribe as much as I could but most of this is paraphrased
Obviously Nimona is filled with messages about queerness and mental health but the movie wasn't always explicitly about that. When they first came onto the project, they looked at the comic and said "Ok, it's a story about acceptance. That's easy." But they quickly found themselves getting stumped. They tried a few different plot lines, but none were really landing the way they wanted them to. So, they went back to the comic and asked themselves, "What about this resonated with audiences?" The main thing they found was the queer themes and they decided to lean into it.
The problem was that they had no idea how to do that so they started talking with people. They opened up the conversation to everyone on the production team, not just the story department, as well as lgbt support groups, their families, and even building facility workers. Once the conversation got started, Nick Bruno said it was amazing; "There were people I had worked with for sixteen years suddenly coming out because they felt comfortable doing so." As more people voiced their experiences Quane and Bruno realized that this story was going to be incredibly important to a lot of people.
That's part of the reason why they pushed hard for this movie to be made. They said that they finished a bunch of demo reels at Blue Sky and were going to show them to the team on Thursday. Disney shut down Blue Sky that Tuesday. They showed the reels anyway over zoom and said it was a very tearful meeting. A lot of the people whose voices and experiences had gone into it had to find jobs on new projects. They said they were calling as many industry friends as possible and pitching the reels to everyone they could because they felt it was too important a story to abandon. They knew how many personal experiences and feelings were already engrained in the story and how detrimental it would be, both to the story and their coworkers, if they let it die. They didn't want to lose the voices of "the people they loved" just because Disney said so.
They elaborated on this saying that the reason why Disney wanted to change it so much was that they felt it "was too specific a story to appeal to a wide audience." Troy Quane said that he actually found it was the opposite. The more they focused in on being othered because of queerness, the more they were able to explore being othered because of race, class, neurodivergence, disability, and a million other things. Because they got so specific, they were able to relate the story to everyone.
Troy Quane also said that he wasn't expecting the reaction they got to the movie. He shared a story about a screening they did in Toronto. He said, "Afterwards we were all kinda hanging out in the lobby and I saw a man hanging around in the back. He looked like he wanted to say something but was kind of nervous about it, so I waved him over. He said, 'Thank you for making this movie. The entire third act with Nimona...' And then he just broke down in my arms. I stood there for about five minutes hugging this stranger. It was astounding. ...I still haven't processed it." To lighten the mood, Nick Bruno joked, "I haven't had anyone hug me!" Quane responded with "I was just hugging you backstage!"

I finally watched Nimona and, yeah, fuck, it made me feel things. And because this is how my brain works I immediately started thinking of all the similarities & parallels to The Owl House and how the characters would interact with each other. Here’s what my genius mind has cooked up so far:
• Nimona hasn’t interacted with peers since Gloreth so being thrust into a friend group takes some warming up to (yeah she’s actually like a thousand years old but c’mon she’s a teenager in every way that matters). The Hexsquad is patient, but they’re also persistent, with each finding their own way to bond with her over time. Luz bonds with her over drawing & soon they’re writing graphic novels together (I’m very clever). Willow sets her up with a pizza garden (seeds & plants for tomato, onion, garlic, mushrooms, basil, peppers, oregano, and OLIVES- rip Ambrosius). Gus & Nim come up with a game where she transforms into anything or anyone she wants and Gus tries to use his illusions to copy her. Amity tells Nim all about the Bonesborough Brawl and the two of them train together for the rest of the year to enter the next competition. Hunter introduces her to all the Palismen of the forest, who accept her instantly when she transforms to play with them. She can talk to Vee about what it’s like to be a shapeshifter, and how it felt to think they’d never be accepted most of their lives and then suddenly find themselves with a loving family. Nim & King Go Goblin Mode Every. Damn. Day.
• At first, Ballister is incredibly nervous about her spending time alone with these strange children. After all, he’s the first person she’s been able to trust in a thousand years, so her social skills are a little rusty, and he doesn’t know these damn kids so how can he know they’re really his baby’s friends??? Goblin Mode may be activated, but so is Protective Dad Mode. Of course, they win him over when he sees how happy Nimona is with them and how genuinely kind & welcoming they are.
• Nimona & the Clawthorne Kids become a team of awesome chaos. Rules are made to be broken. Property will be damaged. Bread puns will be made. Eda likes to joke that one day she’ll snatch the kid up & make her an official Clawthorne. Ballister promises that if she ever tries it she’ll lose the other arm.
• Speaking of which, whenever Bal’s prosthetic arm comes off, Eda tosses off the hook as fast as she can, Naruto runs at him, and bumps her arm stub up against his, declaring that they alone have paid “the true price of love”. Ambrosius doesn’t think it’s very funny, but Raine does.
• Ballister, Ambrosius, Lilith & Hunter have all gotten together to form a “So You Were Brainwashed Into Dedicating Yourself To A Crooked System” support group.
So yeah, this is where my mental state is at. Feel free to add onto my madness.

I Hated The Nimona Movie and You All Will Hate Me After You Read This :D
ok im going to be real with all of you here. i could barely get through the nimona movie. i found it dull, uninteresting, and infuriating (and this is just gonna be me rageposting about it so buckle up guys :D im not that passionate about it but i saw a post that got me in a Mood so)
HERE ARE SOME REASONS WHY:
starting with the most subjective and trivial part, i hate the art. it makes me wanna froth at the mouth and die. the big eyes? HATE em. comic art better 100%
second and last petty thing ambrosius' hair . what did they do to you babygirl. like actually whose idea was it to take away his glorius luscious locks in favor of the Stereotypical Animated Movie f*g haircut like seriously>>>?????
but the biggest thing that im upset about is ballister and ambrosius' relationship. WHERE IS THE FUCKING BANTER? WHERE ARE THE SCENES WHERE THEY BEAT EACH OTHER UP? in the comic, they were interesting, they were dark, they were fucked up, and all of that was sacrificed so that they could be "canon" and kiss one time onscreen at the end!!! to be honest i would rather have an interesting and compelling gay relationship left to subtext than a flat, boring, and disinteresting gay relationship that is canon. my opinion but im right so.
AMBROSIUS IN GENERAL? he's just? not even a character? they turned him from a complex and interesting character full of flaws – i mean he was pompous, full of himself, elitist, you name it! he was dumb as rocks! and he was real! in the movie he's just a bland bowl of slop whose only purpose is to feel regret !!!! in the movie he's this everyman good guy, and in the comic – i mean. the whole thing with the comic is that ambrosius, despite caring deeply for ballister, is sort of the bad guy!!! he shot ballister's arm off NOT because he was "disarming a weapon" but because HE LOST A CONTEST. just because he's a Fucked Up interesting dude.
The setting also fucked me up – by setting the story directly after ballister becomes a villain, the movie takes away a lot of the key elements of ballister's character. they took away his deep-rooted anger with ambrosius, with the institution, they took away his villainous principles and competency, and they TOOK AWAY HIS GODDAMN LOVE OF SCIENCE FOR THE LOVE OF FUCK!! JUST TO MAKE HIM INTO THE EMBODIMENT OF THE PLEADING FACE EMOJI WITH ZERO AGENCY IN HIS OWN GODDAMN STORY!
that's just to name a few. the movie was fine, but it was bland, and even though ND worked very closely with the team, i felt it wasn't faithful in the right ways. but hey, two men kiss onscreen and they painfully spell out the trans allegory to the point of nausea, so it HAS to be good, right?

💕!!??! almost missed this 🥺 mx ferre, what if we... put (more of) our goons in (more) situations 🥺
@mythvoiced / send 💕 and I will tell you some muses…
Tumblr media
ahhhh lenlen, the other person on here who enables me with 283948230 plots and dynamics...time for us to add like 8293048293 more 💕💕💕
okay so this was at the top of my list since you said?? That you were planning on bringing EUNJAE into our wonderful thg verse 🥺🥺🥺…and so the first person I actually though of throwing at them was ANNIE….I dunno?? I guess I just have a feeling that Annie would like eunjae for their personality- like they’re rough in mannerisms and a tad messy, both of which Annie doesn’t mind bc she’s used to being around ppl like that ( ie. Ga-ram & ara ) and also…I think she actually prefers…I think being treated completely like a piece of glass will begin to drive her up the wall :’D also my interpretation of annie is suspicious of most men/male-aligning individuals….so eunjae already checks all her boxes there <3
another dynamic I had been thinking about when you changed their fc :’D granted I’m not too sure how well these two would work out since SABRIEL isn’t the best at reading between the lines and ANNIE often operates in shades of grey but it would!! Be fun to see how they interact with one another especially at least for me throwing Annie at someone who is peppy and yet still for most part?? has good intentions?? even if sabriel can’t completely empathize with what Annie is going thru, I do think Annie would appreciate their good intentions at the very least :’D
DOE is a revolutionist (and a hacker, I could have sworn I read that somewhere but if not ignore me jfksljfsl :’D) and so is NELL, do I need to say anything more? granted they are on the same side when it comes to #revolution…but that doesn’t mean they agree to the degree which they should go for it. Doe is all for changing the system, where as team checkmate is more focused on….taking out one and only one enemy and looking out for their community. Perhaps interacting with someone like doe could radicalize her? also if doe is a hacker, nell can always have…a rival :)
okay HEAR ME OUT, I know that we do have EUNJAE and Patrick in verse one but WHAT ABOUT?? Eunjae and MYUNGDAE in verse two bc if Patrick is the competent if not a tad distant parent ( aka he had to adjust to fatherhood ngl ), then myungdae is…well think of say, jeo*ng jin*man from a shop of ki*llers, :’D aka parent that’s there, he just looks ( okay always looks ) a tad exhausted?? Out of it even? But he’s doing his best for four year old Yuri (Elise) even if he doesn’t quite feel his emotions fjskldfjs this is all to say since I’m seeing that lynnie is throwing Dante at them we might as well…bring the rest of the crime world to eunjae’s doorstep JFKLSDJFLD <3
If AERI knows of hyun, then she’s also gotta know…hyun’s sister, MIYOUNG 🤩🤩🤩 granted, Aeri might be a tad testy with miyoung since well, it’s not like miyoung could exactly be there for hyun when they were younger and is that really any different from the way bel and sera treated Aeri as condescendingly inferior :’DD ….but I also do like the idea of LGBTQ+ icons being friends with one another / media pals with one another….that and if hyun is hanging out with bel behind Aeri’s back, Aeri might as well…do the same 😂😂😂
you know who MARÍA reminds me of? Yeah that’s right, our favorite pink hair menace Nimona 🤩🤩🤩 they’re both little gremlins ( but very lovable) who wanna start shit. The revolutionary kind of shit…so this being said….WHAT IF?? Instead of Nimona being the cause of BALLISTER’S shift in mind, it could be maría instead?? We could even do it in their modern verse since I believe María does have one and is a werewolf there 🤔🤔🤔
so I know we already have a lot for them, PATRICK and MARÍA and I am a sucker for hurt/comfort with these two, but perhaps?? Later when the revolution is in full swing and should hyuk be kidnapped by the Capitol, a thread there? Aka Patrick cycles between being 💯 focused on the revolution efforts and being two steps away from a mental breakdown bc literally hyuk is his rock and his peace so take away that and uh….not good things happen. This is all to say, it could be interesting to see a scenario where perhaps maría for once is the stabler one ( however much Patrick will try to still be a pillar of stability for her tho 🥲 )

imagine if XL coudlnt take it anymore and tried to destroy himself like Nimona and it’s etheir XR, Ty or Nebula who’s stops him.
Oh that part of Nimona got to me. Sorry this took a while to answer.
If XL was to have a moment like this, it would likely be after Revenge of the Monsters and he's starting at Star Command.
(Long post under read and Warning, it gets a bit heavy)
XL was shut down because he didn't work like how Commander Nebula wanted him too and he’s coming out of both a bad situation and behaviour, so he's definitely trying to do all he can to meet the appropriate standard and behaviour; he’s working on himself to be better. He would make mistakes at times or say/do something that he would have done when he was a criminal. There are people like XR, Buzz and Ty who are supportive of XL and know that he’s trying.
If XL were to have a moment similar to that in Nimona, I imagine it would be because of Commander Nebula saying something to XL in one of these instances; Nebula has always had issues with robots and machines (there are plenty of times in the show where he’s had issues with XR and talks harshly to him - in NOS’s first episode Nebula was looking at possibly shutting down XR if he didn’t perform well. He would definitely be like this to XL, and he has more bias’ against XL because of the bots past as an enemy of Star Command). It would be something that builds up over time, all of XL’s little mistake getting to Nebula until he goes off at the bot, bringing up all the mistakes he’s made while being there and probably saying how he hasn’t changed at all.
XL is hurt; he feels like he’s back to when he was first brought online only to be promptly shut down. And once again it’s Nebula who’s hurt him, the man that commissioned him to be made and ordered the quick shutdown; his dad, basically, has once again told him his useless. Xl’s been down this path before and chose to get revenge on the very man and place that hurt him, but he knows that it achieved nothing but getting him hurt and almost eaten in the end. He sees only one option that he could take; the one option that he keeps on hearing in his memories. So XL walks away without saying a word to Nebula.
If anyone in Buzz’s team or Ty was there to witness it, they would say something to Nebula about what he said was wrong, and would follow XL to check up on him and see how he’s feeling after what just happened. They’re there for him anytime he needs them.
If none of them were there to witness what happened, they’d probably run into one of the two of them. If they run into Nebula, same things as the paragraph above. If they run into XL, whether it’s in the hall’s or something as the bot’s contemplating, or if he’s about to shut himself down, they’re stopping him knowing something has happened and try to get him to talk or at the least stop thinking/doing was he was going at the moment, so then they could at least talk later. Once XL talks about what happened between him and Nebula, they’re gonna comfort him, they’re gonna let him know that they’re there for him. He’s got a support group
Now, if it was a specific character that to stop XL from hurting himself, XR and/or Ty I think would be the one to stop him, even Buzz potentially (Buzz canonically being the one to get XL to help them stop NOS and to come back to Star Command, Buzz wouldn’t want him to do anything harmful). But I reckon it would be XR or Ty because both would have a better connection with XL.
Nebula I reckon would likely be the cause of XL’s state in this scenario; but even if he was, if someone (especially if it was any of the three in the paragraph above) told him that what he was in the wrong for what he’s said, there is a chance that Nebula (after a lot of thinking and reflecting), he could talk to XL, before he tried to do anything. But in the case that Nebula is not the cause of XL’s state, he could also be another character that would stop XL from doing anything.

@wolfvirago/@shibemuses wants some plots!
Robin comes to Johto as part of her Pokémon adventure and hears something's been lurking around Sprout Tower. Thinking it's a ghost-type Pokémon, she goes up to investigate. Spoilers: it's not a ghost-type Pokémon.
...Honestly Robin and Gold would make a great team when it comes to exploring shit in Johto. Definitely the Burnt Tower in Ecruteak or Mount Silver. Just don't ask him to go to the Whirlpool Islands.
Gold lost his body. Mami lost her head. Together they fight crime.
There's a Tyranitar causing havoc around Johto! Except this Tyranitar's hot pink, has a mouth full of Sharpedo teeth, and holy fuck did it just shapeshift into a person? AKA Gold and Nimona play the most ambitious game of 'Who's That Pokémon?' yet.
Gold chilling with the Moomins.
Celebi and Kyubey get into a Real Housewives-esque catfight over fucking around with the lives of random children.
I feel like Gold and Nezuko would also get along? I'm not sure why, but that's what the vibes are telling me.

Intro :] (updated around every month ^^)
Tumblr media
Interests:
I am largely fixated on Sonic the Hedgehog, so that’s what you’ll see most on my main blog (this one).
My other interests here include: Splatoon, everything Spider-Man and Spider-Verse, Kirby, My Little Pony (Gen 4), Super Mario, the Legend of Zelda, Pokémon (mostly just team rocket), various other random console games, and Pikmin.
All of these fandoms can be found in my featured tags, as well as other types of tags. (<- these are mainly for my own navigation, so most prolly don’t make a lot of sense on the outside lol.)
I’ve also got separate side blogs for random interests that breached containment, like (in order of oldest to newest):
✩ stimming gifs, sounds/music, stim boards, web resources, etc -> @stimmii
✩ rottmnt -> @iheartrise
✩ nimona (the movie) -> @nimonablogheckyeah
✩ the amazing digital circus -> @iheartdigitalcircuses
✩ helluva boss -> @ihearthelluva
Tumblr media
Stuff to note (BYF section):
~I curse. I also reblog some nsfw jokes on my main, but never something actually sexual at heart. (For example, smthin kinda like deez nuts jokes but more detailed. Like uhhh. She scott on my pilgrim till I take off.) I’ve tagged these as “#suggestive text” in the past, but I started tagging them as “#suggestive joke” a while ago.
~Mass likes/reblogs don’t bother me, don’t worry :]
~Uh. I may unintentionally spam-like/reblog other blogs though, if I happen to really enjoy your posts. I don’t mean to bother anyone, randomly I just go through a spiral of stuff I really like and feel the need to catalogue it somehow (or else I might forget lol)
~On my main I reblog things relating to politics/light discourse, usually just some civil rights stuff. I don’t tag these categorically.
~I have adhd and autism, and reblog about struggles sometimes tagged with “#nd things”. Also,
~I use tone indicators for anything that I think might be confusing, but always spelt out. For example, “/sarcastic” or “/light-hearted.”
~I am genderqueer and use they/she/he, in order of preference. (When I say “alternation preferred”, I mean I would greatly appreciate if you alternate between multiple of these pronouns for me rather than just choose one set forever.)
~Unimportant to blog, but I wanna add as a little hiya to the queer community that I am also demi-pansexual. (demi as in demiromantic + demisexual, meaning I am only ever romantically or sexually attracted to anyone after [pre-established] time, trust, and bonding. This is why I like ships a lot lol)
~I blog a lot of sonadow here, so just to organize the duo in my blog I may tag sonic and shadow’s general interactions as the ship as well, even if the post wasn’t necessarily meant to be. Please send an ask / message me if this makes you uncomfortable.
~My memory is faulty, meaning I may reblog the same thing multiple times without meaning to, or forget to respond to a message/ask. (more on that below)
Tumblr media
Moot-to-Moot Communication:
~If we’re mutuals, feel free to message me for any random reason!!
~I might take a while to respond, but I promise no matter what I will see your message and be thinking about it. The Dysfunction does do the hit (and also the anxiety and memory . lots of that too)
Drawn demonstration by user cuptoast on twitter dot com:
Tumblr media
~Please, please just message me a lil reminder if I don’t get back to you after a day!! I prolly forgor 💀. Just a little “yo” or whatever you want is great, it helps a lot.
~However, I usually start conversations with an ask. (It’s a little silly, but it’s easier for me to keep track of and less intimidating that way.) If you’d prefer, you can just respond to it in messages.
~I…… may or may not be following over 4000 blogs (I very much am.) This means I never really see moots on the dashboard, which means I don’t really interact except for once in a while when I might FLOOD your posts with likes + reblogs ,:]
~In any messages whatsoever, if subtext is used then I would very much appreciate spelt-out tone indicators (or any other form of clarification 👍. I may casually ask for the tone if I’m confused)
~Just let me know if you want me to tag something for filtering out, like spoilers but also literally anything else.
Tumblr media
Do not interact section:
In general, I block who I don’t want to interact with; but with the current situations, I want to clarify my stances if it makes anyone more comfortable to know… or uncomfortable, so they can know and do what they will.
~I stand completely with Palestine and Palestinians, against genocide, displacement, the Israeli military or government, and for a ceasefire. I reblog about Palestine news and history frequently. I also believe that Jews, as well as all average civilians everywhere, deserve to live and be happy- all including with places of worship. These are not contradictory statements.
~I am against proshipping, meaning that I am heavily against the fictional fetishization of children, (including minor/adult ships,) rape, or incest.
~I also did not realize that TERFs were so common here!! Unfortunate! I am also obviously against terfs.
Tumblr media
WHEW!! THE END!!!! YOU MADE IT THRU!!! Thanks for reading :]. pow bam bang you get hearts <33💞💘💕

Watched Nimona recently and Guardian’s of the Galaxy 3 today.
Nimona’s a well-done short story about being yourself and how society dehumanizes and lashes out at those who are “ different” , but done better then most, I liked that she is shown to be a fire-breather in a quiet scene at the back end of the movie, making her actions feel more subdued and her talk about loving destruction feel like bluff, I also liked the gay relationship and how the love interest stood in for his feelings of obligation to society/the civilians/the institution, It was refreshing to have a middle manager type as a big bad instead of the head of state for a change, also the way they were forced by the society that villanized them to act “ villainous” and eventually “ monstrous” felt very “real”, also it just looks very good and both lead characters are very charming and charismatic.
Guardian’s of the Galaxy 3 is the best of the trilogy but also the most conventional ( heroes rescues friend and takes down tyrannical ruler) , If I wanted nuance and the messiness and misery I would be reading nonfiction, I like fiction for optimistic escapist fantasies about found-families of heroes taking down evil empires by killing the big bad, or kinky sex. The first one had the whole asshole small time criminals team up to Save The Galaxy and learn to care about each other stick( so the cast was not that likable), the last one was just a-lot of daddy issues ( not bad, but a subject I have little desire for)and Chris Pratt at his… Chris Prattiest, and the group was still not fully, reformed yet.
Anyway the thing I really wanted to talk about was the stories depiction of Animal testing, since I saw someone on the r/askvegans subreddit a few days before asking what people thought of it. The plot involves Rocket ( the cyborg raccoon character) being severely injured and knocked unconscious by someone ( working for the organization that “ made” him) trying to kidnap him, Rocket has some sort of anti-tampering self destruction button in him, so they need the organization’s( who is run by a super powerful mad scientist trying to create a new species of perfect sapients to populate his perfect utopia), override code to do surgery, but since the mad scientist is after Rocket they end up not only taking the code but rescuing the other experiments and taking him down.
Even-though the story is critical of the animal testing, it feels too divorced from reality to be any sort of commentary on the real world issue, in the same way that say 101 Dalmatians is. People generally are against animal testing for cosmetics or sanitary items now, the large companies that continue to do so mainly do to comply with Chinese laws. It’s medical research that people defend today, as necessary and ( inaccurately) argue is done under the best conditions possible and never done frivolously ( If you want a good view into how Medical animal testing looks like in the real world from someone who was involved read They All Had Eyes) , the mad scientists actions are the sort of frivolous testing with no pretense of legitimacy the public is already against. The second part is the animals they used, just having the camera linger on a cage of sad white mice would have made it feel more relevant, the vast majority of mammals used in animal testing are mice and rats ( which don’t get the same minimum protections, and aren’t even counted, the way other tested mammals are) , instead the background animals included house cats, tapirs, box turtles, arctic foxes, kangaroos , a tapir, spider monkeys, vampire bats, pigs, pandas…, but no mice or rats. ( or of-course fish). The main side-animals in his backstory included a river otter, walrus, and domestic rabbit, but the domestic rabbit was an unimportant character with a “ sweet but stupid” personality, and was the most heavily cyborg modified animals to almost unrecognizably.
There is a comedic side plot where back at the base where the two put in charge when the main cast left are mad at each-other, and the Soviet talking dogs comments once on how she was left in space to die. That single line is a more substantial criticism of real world issues than the entire main plot.

She-Ra and the Princesses of Power (2018)
🌸🌸🌸🌸
Verdict: Fun as hell.
The first thing that always hits me is there are a good few lines that just give me secondhand embarrassment every time. Like "What are you looking at, PRINCESS?" and "I just turned against the Horde! 😃 ...I just turned against the Horde! 😧" Maybe they just feel obvious and overplayed? But I hardly want to criticize that because... none of the writing is supposed to be smart!
The tone is thoroughly childish, and sometimes it seems particularly aware of this fact, like the comedy beat on Angella's "You're grounded!", and the doofy playground way they first fight over the sword. All the characters argue and joke and say how they feel in bombastic, simple terms. For the most part it's reeeally working for me.
If I had to guess what the team actually liked about original She-Ra, that might be it. The OGs were extremely serious and earnest while having the most absurd play-logic plots and conflicts. The She-Boot is like a reflection on that: it's much more overt with its childishness and goofiness, as well as making the characters clearly younger, because it's for adults feeling like kids enjoying She-Ra.
I think as long as it has momentum, I really like it. I think that's something show will struggle with later on, but it was firing on all cylinders here.
For as many lines made me cringe, there were also a few that jolted outside the predictable pattern for a moment and felt quite striking, such as the Shadow Weaver's "You've wanted this since you were old enough to want anything," and Catra's 'of course they're manipulating us!' thing.
I think this show is really strong on art and colors. The characters all feel nice to look at and creative and the blocky pastels make them pop. The backgrounds have a little bit of a nostalgic painterly feel. The strong color grading in some scenes really juiced the emotion and made the storytelling feel a little more thoughtful and mature to me.
Story-wise, I think it's something of a shame that the characters bear no resemblance to the OG's personalities. As Adora was kind of wise and right all the time, it makes sense she would need to change, and I like that they based her around the premise of being a Horde defector. Glimmer was a delicate, useless princess, and I feel like in seeking a more feminist idea they just made her the complete opposite. Bow, I suppose, is still comically jocular and friendly, though he's no longer an un-self-aware blowhard. I like Adora as her angst is the kind I can really sink my headcanoning teeth into. I'm neutral on the other two. I like that Bow's a friendship-core fairy boy. I like that when Glimmer yells at people it moves the plot forward (for now). As far as I'm aware, Catra's excitingly toxic nature is entirely new, and emotional vulnerability was given to a formerly straightforward cackling villain. Based on Nimona, this is one of the stories Stevenson is bursting to tell, and I respect that. The Shadow Weaver is really excellently scary, and I see the groundwork being laid for the interesting conflict she'll get. I don't care about the cadet team - they feel generic and in the wrong genre.
She-Ra feels wonderfully ethereal and unstoppable and you can tell everyone finds her a glamazon. I like that they suggest from the beginning that Adora can feel She-Ra is connected to her own origins. I like that her first display of power was just to draw a monster's respect and bring peace.
Little things...
I forgot just how ~sexy~ Catra's delivery of her first lines was. The girl's really going for it sometimes.
Catra's running joke about brain damage is delightfully incongruous and ghoulish, as is Bow's "It's been an honor serving with you, Horsie."
I think it's funny that Bow spent the entire episode telling Glimmer not to rush in or push her magic, and when she finally took his advice he was like 'what are you talking about? Don't give up hope! Let's save the day!' I also find it a bit weird and unconvincing how ready he is to brand them a "Best Friends Squad!"
I find the happy, peaceful, celebrating little villages in this show consistently un-charming. I guess they feel pretty one-note and unconvincing. I would hazard that they wanted to evoke 'quaint, innocent, folksy, diverse, accepting' but were trying REALLY hard not to culturally appropriate.
This whole time, whenever Glimmer was fighting I was thinking about "aggressive fist-to-face sparkles" because that's literally what she does.
Finally, I thought I would keep a running tally of all the crimes Catra commits, so that we can finally answer whether she is a bad person or a good one. She's off to a dubious start in this pair of episodes, as I noticed that she was late for training, hopped around the walkways in an unsafe manner, and even climbed out of her tank to talk to a friend in the middle of an invasion.
Catra's Crimes: 3
Next time: Bright Moon!

Since reading Nimona during my sophomore year of college, I’ve become a fan of Noelle Stevenson’s work.  From Lumberjanes to her appearance on Critical Role, her characters and plots are always touched by fantasy but deeply grounded in reality.  This is a graphic novel, but it started out as a webcomic.  This seems to be a growing trend and I am 100% on board with it.  I like the fact that the online format allows the artists to do their own thing, from story work all the way to the editing, so they get to see their vision come to life from all angles.  But one to the review!
Nimona was one of the first graphic novels that I have ever read.  Before this book I had read webcomics, such as Earthsong, which was still on going at the time, and Gunnerkrigg Court.  And after picking up a handful of other graphic novels on my own and through the library, I can safely say that this is a pretty good jumping off point.
The basic hook of the story is this: Nimona, the title character, is an impulsive and impish shapeshifter who teams up with Lord Ballister Blackheart to do some villainy villain stuff with the goal of exposing the heroic Ambrosius Goldenlion and his allies The Institute of Law Enforcement and Heroics as not being so good and noble.
The whole feel of the plot and setting is that of a superhero (or villain) story that got transposed into a fantasy world.  The story is based in a world that is a fusion of science and fantasy, where we seem to have magic (or is it just science?) alongside Blackheart’s gadgets and the Institutes’ screens.  This is a really interesting concept that I have seen played around with before, but there’s always a pseudoscience exposition related to it.  With Nimona its just kinda...there.  And honestly, that does seem to make it more believable to me, plus I enjoyed it quite a bit.
Stevenson also manages to pack some emotional punches as well.  The story focuses heavily on Blackheart and Nimona’s pasts, which, in true villain fashion, are supprisingly sympathetic.  I won’t say much more on the topic, in order to avoid spoilers, but I’m a sucker for found family stories and I just got kidney punched with this one.  A+, 10/10 would get drop kicked again.
Like I mentioned before, this is a good option for people looking for an introduction to graphic novels, but I think it would be a good read for anyone who is looking for a graphic novel that is light but has heart.  While its definitely not something heavy like Persepolis, it does have a lot to unpack and its a good read all around.

The Professional Gamer - December 15, 2018
We’re halfway through December and almost to the end of the year now. I’ve had a fairly good week in terms of finding time to enjoy myself. I was finally able to watch the end of one of my favorite animated series, and I got my fancy new laptop that can actually play games and doesn’t hang whenever I try to change tabs in Chrome. And that’s made me very happy. I also had time to finish binge-watching another new animated series and watch Crystal play Dragon Quest XI. I guess I have a lot to write about this week. Best get started.
First up, let’s talk about She-Ra and the Princesses of Power. This series by Dreamworks is a remake of the 1980’s She-Ra: Princess of Power headed by comic artist Noelle Stevenson. I was never big into either the He-Man or She-Ra series back in the day. In part, the 1983 debut of He-Man (and 1985 debut of She-Ra) meant that I was way too young for it when it was brand new. To clarify, I was born in 1983, and I don’t think a baby had any reason to be watching either of those shows. Don’t get me wrong, I had a few of the toys growing up, but was decidedly late to the game. On the other hand, I did grow up with the Master of the Universe movie, which was a very weird adaptation of the original material. Then, there was the 2000’s reboot of He-Man, which I watched a few episodes of during college, and then mostly forgot existed. I say all of this, to put my perspective in context: I have some passing familiarity with the tropes of the series, but without any strong emotional investment. I saw a lot of the hype building up for the new She-Ra, but didn’t pay much attention to it. I love Nimona, but even attaching Noelle to the project did not pull me into it. I figured I would watch it at some point, but I wasn’t planning to make a priority out of it. And that seemed to be the path that I was on, until Crystal sat me down and got me started.
To preface, this is a show targeted for a younger audience than me. That said, this is a seems like a really good show for young viewers. The characters have a surprising amount of depth and their own motivations. Because of this, the dynamics between the characters are more realistic and believable. I ended up watching most of the series in just a few evenings, and am anticipating the next season. Again, a show for which I am totally not the target audience, but I still see how great it is.
Next up, the last season of Adventure Time. This, I ended up watching over the course of two days. Somehow, I had missed when it was released to Hulu, and only noticed when I was cleaning out my spam folder. So, yeah. Several months late here, but I’m all full of feelings. I’m glad that we tied up some of the more interesting plot threads that had been set up over the prior seasons. Since its still newish, I’m not going to spoil anything here; but I’m very happy with the ending and how the last episode went down. It was such a great series, and I’m sad to see it go. But, it did have a great run and a great ending. Cheers to Pen Ward and his team!
In the seasonal anime category, both Skull-face Bookseller Honda-san and That Time I got Reincarnated as a Slime continue to be great shows.
So, new computer. Now, I can play some of my favorite games while I’m travelling, or from the comfort of my living room. While I was getting the computer set up, Crystal has been playing Dragon Quest XI. And it looks like a lot of fun. I’ve never really gotten into JRPG’s very heavily, so I had completely skipped out on this series. Crystal has always been a big fan of Final Fantasy and other games developed by Square-Enix; but she also missed out on the Dragon Quest series. The first game that she really played was Dragon Quest: Builders. After watching some discussion of the latest game on YouTube, she decided to give the newest edition a chance and purchased it. I have some qualms with the English adaptation, like why does everyone have British and Scottish accents? But, the characters are fun and there are a lot of little jokes interspersed with somewhat serious plot. This could be a great addition to your library if you are a fan of JRPG’s.
Christmas is coming soon, and I may find myself without time to write regularly. If you don’t see me occasionally, that’ll be why. Hopefully, I’ll be able to find some time to write, cause I know I’m going to find time for fun. Until next time, game on!

Nine Worlds; One Valkyries Trip To London’s Inclusive Fan Convention
Conventions appeal to different fans for different reasons, whether it be comic con, a game expo, YouTube/Blogger convention or whatever the medium but one common factor in all of these conventions is the possibility to meet other like-minded fans! As well as hopefully getting the chance to meet your idols!
There is a Con though that really thrives on fans, it is called Nine Worlds (London’s Inclusive Fan Culture Convention). A Con with a difference – the difference being it is made by fans for fans to meet other fans and just enjoy and celebrate their fandom in all it’s crazy geekiness.
It has been going since 2013 when it was first set up but I only heard about it last summer (2017) when I discovered that one talk held there was titled “It’s research! Or Why it is ok to play over 100 hours of Dragon Age when you really should be writing.” This, as a huge Dragon Age fan since discovering Inquisition, spoke to me on a level that none of my immediate friends understood or appreciated. Unfortunately I was unable to attend Nine Worlds in 2017, but the fact that there was a time and place to have such a discussion on such a unique fan-based topic inspired me to endeavor to attend in 2018. So as soon as the Early Bird Tickets became available I put my money where my heart wanted me to and I began to plan and save for a big solo adventure to London for Nine Worlds 2018.
I also made another bold and brave and foolish decision to sign up as a Content Provider for Nine Worlds 2018!
Why? – because why not? I have been a mega reader, hoarder and fan of all fiction featuring, adapting or retelling Norse Mythology for years and Nine Worlds provided me with the ideal and probably only platform where I could take the chance to share my enthusiasm and passion for the genre of Norse Fantasy. The Nine Worlds Team accepted my proposal, so, on top of saving for the hotel room on-site and booking train travel I also had to plan a lecture/talk – I was both really nervous and really excited! The months, weeks and days soon dwindled down to departure day and then I was off down to London for what I hoped would be a fun and busy weekend.
Now on to the fun bit – the various sessions and events and panel discussions! These were the ones I attended but over 50 were held each day of the convention so this is just a small sample of what fandom and genres were covered.
Session One – LARP (Live Action Role Play). Speakers; Penny Jackson, Adam Dinwoodie, Mx RA Madgwick and Haplocke Spence
As I am attending my first ever LARP event, set in the world of Dragon Age in November this was a must for me! The panel was made up of experienced and new-ish LARP players and they gave a great insight into how LARP’ing works, the various types and systems involved, clothing and equipment, rules for both play and player protection and more.
Session Two – The Only Toilet in Thedas. Speakers; Sarah Gordon, Phil Dyson, Angela Cleland
Now who couldn’t resist that title? Especially when you are a Dragon age fan. This panel discussion was the most interesting because it covered not just the world of games but also of books, TV and Film. It made me realize how much in Fantasy the practical matters of hygiene from toilets to sewers to bathing are just not address yet in Sci-Fi it’s more visible. The panel discussed whether it was a taboo or simply a matter of too much detail on a very personal and private matter – for instance do you want to know how long the hero, heroine, villain or indeed any character takes on the toilet? If they wash their hands or not? – but then again social, religious and cultural practices exist even within the bathroom and so perhaps it should be represented more?
Session Three – Know Thy Enemy. Speakers; Adrian Tchaikovsky, Jeanette Ng, Ms Anna Stephens
This was a panel debate all about the nature and representation of Villains. I found it fascinating to discuss Villains and their nature, one panel member made the very good point on how it is wrong to see the Villain as the champion of Chaos and the Hero of Order for it is in fact the other way around. In many scenarios across all mediums it is the Villain that has established some type of order whether through politics, society, culturally or religious or just geographically or financially but it is the Hero who emerges to disrupt that form of order and thus bring about chaos. This made me instantly think of Katniss in the Hunger Games, she is rebelling against the ruling society and its cultural practice of the Games and thus brings war to the capital city and thus chaos. Another issue discussed was whether the viewer/reader must be sympathetic towards Villains. The panel debated hard on this topic and in the end agreed that sympathy isn’t necessary for a Villain to be a true villain or a good villain but what is necessary is that the viewer/reader gets a sense of the Villain’s journey to their villainy – they must see where, how and why the character has become the Villain, whether for good or bad, and so enjoy the Villain’s redemption or come-uppance by the hero.
Session Four – D&D (Dungeons and Dragons) for Young People. Speaker; Elizabeth Prais
In my day job as a college Librarian I had recently learned of a lunch-time Dungeons and Dragons group being set up by a teacher after some students expressed an interest. So, I was eager to learn more tips and tricks to either host such a group in the Library or pass on to my colleague. The lady who hosted this session hailed from America and was very open about how she ran her local residential D&D group for her daughter and some local children. She gave some great recommendations and advice on timing, kit, planning, preparation and how to adjust and adapt the large and complex set of rules for a younger more impatient audience.
Session Five – Philosophy and Mass Effect. Speaker; Michael Duxbury, Emily Marlow
Now this was the first session I wasn’t entirely clued up on as I myself am still stuck half way through playing Mass Effect 2 by Bioware so a lot of the moral/ethical dilemmas they talked about I hadn’t actually experienced yet, or I couldn’t remember what I chose in the ones I was familiar with. Yet it was interesting and food for thought on how the scenarios were portrayed, and the fixed set of options provided resulted in the moral and ethics becoming such a personal dilemma for players. It wasn’t always a case of choosing the lesser of two evils but how the player and indeed the character depending on their Renegade to Hero balance would pick. Some panel members and indeed people in the audience felt that more choices would improve and increase the dilemma levels instead of just A or B. The panel also discussed how often, at least amongst themselves, they would pick based on the benefit or not long term, not the short term and play with a view of working towards achieving success or a goal.
Session Six – Beyond Marvel and DC – What comics you should be reading. Speakers; Angie Wenham, Stephen Lacey, Kate Barton, Ram V
The panel mentioned a great many titles, artists, apps and webcomics that they recommended as alternatives to Marvel/DC and then invited the audience to contribute. I recommended Nimona* by Noelle Stevenson  and I Hate Fairy Land by Skottie Young.
* Interested in Nimona? Check out our review!

Session Seven – Disney Sing-A-Long
This was the true highlight for me as an eternal child thanks to the magic of Disney. I wasn’t the only adult in the room, it was a very popular event and there were children of all ages and their parents and even a few Disney cosplayers too. We were all able to sing-a-long via screen projecting the words, or handouts or follow a link online. A whole range of songs was sung and Frozen ‘Let It Go’ proved to be a major popular one with a member of Con Staff leading a friendly stage invasion and then everyone proudly showed off all the right moves to the lyrics. I honestly was in tears with joy as some of the most powerful songs were sung by young and old alike.
The final event I will review was the FABULOUS MMORPG SHOW. Speaker; Misha Anker, Paul Flannery
Which was a blend of audience power and D&D – we basically had the Game Master who set up a story, invited some members of the audience to join him on stage and fill in character sheets but they had to be as unconventional as possible and then he would invite the audience to provide character names, objects, powers etc. to the story narrative and the players would roll a giant D20 (20-sided dice) to determine the outcome. This was a whole lot of fun and silliness and the story involved a Bee with a Human Leg, a Swarm of Wasps and a Wizard whose greatest spell was making Jam, they had to find the Cheese Board for the Duck of Doom! You had to be there to believe the story and it was amazingly resolved within the 1 hour and a half session.
Norse Fantasy, My own presentation!
Was scheduled bright and early on a Saturday morning the night after the first big disco (alas Becky did not go dancing due to a very painful wisdom tooth spoiling things) and yet the room quickly filled up much to my delight. Despite not having the colorful presentation I spent hours on, due to not having my own laptop to plug into the screen, I was still able to explain, explore and introduce so many of my favourite authors and titles to a new audience. Some of the audience also proved to be fellow fans of many of them and a good number took photographs of my favourite title list to go away with to look at later and thanked me for the session, which was an awesome feeling. I was even complimented on my choice of t-shirt for the session – my own Valkyrie t-shirt from Redbubble. It says, “Valkyrie of Odin – Midgard Original – Since 793”. If you are interested in my presentation, I am planning on doing a written version of it for the Valkyries Blog so stay tuned!
Last but not least was the fab mini Geek Market that was on all weekend and as it was also my birthday, I indulged myself in another t-shirt from Genki Gear, some D&D themed tea, tea strainer and mug, two new bookmarks, some funky acrylic necklaces featuring a book and a fox in a bin, some super cute little clay keyrings of Flynn Rider, Thor and Pizza and of course BOOKS! Each attendee got a surprise free book in their bag, but I got two based on libraries and books, The Invisible Library by Genevieve Cogman and Bookworm by Christopher Nuttall – expect a review on here once I have got around to enjoying them.
Now the managing team have recently stepped down to consult with attendees and invite new members, as they are reviewing their constitution to try and make it more inclusive and representative of those who attend. Although from what I witnessed their inclusive and equality practices were out of this world compared to other cons I’ve been too. I do hope the new organizers can continue what has already been established and continue to make improvements where they feel it is needed. I for one enjoyed it all – despite my wisdom tooth being a very literal pain throughout – for I definitely would attend again.
Did you attend Nine Worlds? What did you think? What was your favourite presentation?

★彡( 𝙻𝚘𝚐𝚐𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝙾𝚗 )彡★
Well shit, he didn’t think that this would have happened to him today.
It was supposed to be a simple drop off mission. Garuru was given the task to hop into a mech suit and deliver a single cartridge to the drop-off point on one of Nimona’s craters. It seemed simple enough, so simple that Garuru even instructed his team that they could remain on the ship and continue to circle the small moon while he goes ahead on his own. Though, the moment he started to land at the given coordinates he realized that something was wrong. The drop-off camp which would usually be bustling with other Keronian soldiers and waiting for his arrival were seemingly all gone, some shady figures were in place in their stead. Vipers.
His keen eyes got a good glimpse of these insolent creatures before goundfall but it was already too late, he was already a projectile coming in from the atmosphere at a couple hundred miles an hour and he was aiming right for the landing pad near the very center of the desolate camp. Garuru could only brace himself for the impact and make a couple of commands to the mech suit with his fingertips to start loosening up the straps that kept him in place. Was it a foolish idea? Definitely, but he needed to get out of the suit quickly if he didn’t want to get turned into nothing but holes.
They didn’t even know that Garuru and his suit were coming in until he was merely seconds from landing on the platform with a loud deafening ‘crunch’ in the moon’s grit. The Lieutenant had already stiffened himself to ready the blow he was no-doubt going to receive to the back of his head from the harsh impact, but damn did that shit hurt. All in the same second Garuru opened the hatch that was in the center of the Mecha’s chest and jumped out to get cover behind some hefty metal crates not too far from the landing pad. Sure, some could argue that he could just remain in the suit and open fire the moment he landed, but after coming in hot like that from the atmosphere? It would be detrimental if that one lucky bullet found its way into the fuel chamber on his suit.
Ka-Boom. To put it simply.
Despite the pain radiating from the back of his head to the space in between his eyes Garuru managed to take aim and shoot at a couple of those vile Vipers, he ducked accordingly when the lucky few had taken cover to start returning fire as well. He remained close to the ground, letting his right hand reach up to the back of his head, throbbing and stinging under his touch. If it wasn’t for the pain he was already feeling then it was surely the wetness at the back of his head that gave it away that he was surely injured. Garuru peeked at his hand then wiped it off on his thigh to clean it off, that...was quite a bit of blood. It was a miracle he didn’t kill himself from blunt force trauma in the suit.
“Garuru to Platoon, come in platoon, I’m under attack--” Garuru ducks down even further, lifting his left hand with the pistol just enough over the cargo box he took for cover and trying to fire back. If he hit someone, good, but more importantly he took those shots so that he could force them into cover and get himself a breather. The communicator in his other hand crackled with Taruru’s voice, and then Pururu’s, but he couldn’t hear a word that they were saying. The Lieutenant flips the com over so he could look at the connection, the signals were jammed. He presses a single button that was there to get in contact with his dispatcher, usually the function was for the dispatcher themselves to connect to the team to let them know he was under attack, or injured, etcetera. His com blinks a few times, then vibrates and…..nothing. “Fuck.” he musters with a short aggrivated sigh. Well, that means he was on his own for this, that’s fine by him.
At least, he thought he was alone.
Garuru was readying his sniper so that he could immediately start taking shots the moment he got out of cover, but before he could even come out he heard screams...the Viper’s screams. And more gunshots. His years worth of tactical training and survival instincts kicked in, he had to find a new form of cover--higher ground and all of that--so he could see what the hell was going on. The Lieutenant peeks over, seeing a small group of metal containers stacked upon one another then decides to run for it, keeping his head ducked down and sliding into position at the very bottom of it. He hops up onto the metal crate and pauses to hear the bursts slowing down. There was no more screaming now, but a couple of well aimed shots did shoot at the container Garuru had used for cover before running over to this side. He held his arm up to shield his eyes from the dust and debris that flew over, then silence fell on the camp again.
It was a deafening few seconds before Garuru had the nerve to look out from his cover. He removed his scope from the sniper and kept it on his lap at first, grabbing a small pack that was beside him and underhanded it into the opening. No shots were made at it. He then slid slowly towards the edge of the crate that covered him, taking his scope and inching it out so that it peeked out from his hiding place. Nothing. For sure if this person was a sniper they would have shot at the tiny glistening metal and glass in his hand if they suspected it to be an enemy peeking out from cover. Hell, he would.
Garuru sighed, getting on his knees to move to the edge and finally look through the scope to see where this other person was. He didn’t see anything at first, and the scanner that came equipped inside his scope couldn’t find any traces of life among the lifeless moon landscape either when he continued to look. But then he saw it, a little glitter? No. It was Keronian morse code. ‘E.N.E.M.Y’? After a pause it started up again.
K.E.R.O.N.I.A.N / O.R / E.N.E.M.Y
Garuru tilted his thumb so that it could cover the scope then removed it again to see through it in a pattern, knowing that the reflection from the sun was already making his scope glisten and tried to sign back as best as he could.
K.E.R.O.N.I.A.N / S.O.L.D.I.E.R / A.L.Y
He waited patiently then signed his message back again. Whoever it was he was signalling to seem to know Keronian Morse code very well because it only took them the second time of seeing his message before they began their reply.
H.O.W / M.A.N.Y
Garuru’s reply.
O.N.E
A Keronian appeared from what looked like to be out of thin air, he was sand colored with yellow eyes and red markings on his face under his sharp eyes and two belts across his chest. Garuru even jolted when the random Keronian appeared, did he have some cloaking device on him that made him stand out in the opening like that? Then again, it would make sense how he managed to take down three Vipers on his own without so much as breaking a sweat if they couldn’t see him. After making his presence known the Keronian used what looked like a small flashlight in his hand to click it on and off to signal back.
K.E.R.O.N.I.A.N / S.P.E.C.T.R.E / A.L.L.Y / C.O.M.E / O.U.T
A Keronian spectre? That was lucky of him. Usually Keronian Spectres have worked off galaxy side, fighting or indoctrinating other sides of the cosmos in hopes of spreading Keron’s territory, not running around on a moon that was so close to their home. Garuru slid off of the crate and onto his feet, wobbling a little as he did so but he wasn’t worried, his vision was still clear, his breathing was fine, he didn’t think his body was going into shock or anything...yet. Garuru makes one more glance around to ensure that it was indeed just the two of them before getting out of cover, then slowly making his way past the Vipers that all laid there pathetically in the moon sand. Huh, he managed to hit one of the  guys when he wasn’t looking, that was also lucky of him.
The other Keronian was already standing at the foot of Garuru’s mech suit, looking at it as though he was just a passerby admiring a good piece of machinery and not that he just killed some enemies on their home turf. “Sir.” Garuru greeted with a salute, being that the other soldier turned and gave him a casual salute back only meant that they were the same rank so Garuru put his hand down and met him at the mech. “I appreciate you helping me out back there.”
“There’s a lot of blood in there.” the sand colored soldier stated, nodding his head to the mech suit and the Lieutenant winced inwardly when he saw the roof of the suit covered with blood. Yup. His blood. “It wouldn’t warrant those bastards to come this close though.”
“It wouldn’t, that blood is mine. They were already here when I was starting to land.” Garuru explains, turning his head slightly when the other soldier leaned over so that he could look at the back of his head, it must not be good if the guy audibly hissed at the sight. “I was supposed to meet with a group here for a delivery mission, but we didn’t receive word or anything about the campsite getting taken over.” The soldier nods his head, looking back at the Vipers that laid about and then back to Garuru, asking him what he was supposed to deliver. “A package, for the Lieutenant Colonel in charge of this crater.”
“I’m Lieutenant Vern, or carrier seven-one-eight-six-three.” the soldier finally speaks up, bringing his wrist up so that a holographic screen could come in between them. The screen flickered with different information and files before coming set onto one that showed a picture of Garuru and his platoon all together, Garuru could read that the file name was in Keronian but the rest of the file itself was in another language….Nimonian? No doubt about it, it looked Nimonian but unfortunately he didn’t know a lick of it. “You must be Lieutenant Garuru then, of the Garuru Platoon. I think we were supposed to meet originally on behalf of the Marquees Greedo.”
“That sounds about right.” Garuru states, nodding in affirmation. He and his platoon were supposed to meet someone with the identification numbers seven-one-eight-six-three when they had received their orders, of course they were also supposed to meet in a ‘fortified camp’ as well, but things change, and even though Garuru was curious to find out what the hell happened here it wasn’t part of the mission to know. Just to deliver this package to said Marquees who...might or might not be among them anymore if they had the scene at this meeting place to go by. Garuru was about to jump back into the suit to grab the package but was instead stopped by Vern who grabbed his shoulder when his back was turned and held him in place. The Lieutenant was about to ask the guy what he was doing before he felt a slight pinch and a whole lot of burning in the back of his head, making him swear aloud.
“My apologies, it’s just better to seal this hole in the back of your skull before it has the chance to get any worse.” the soldier behind him states, though his voice was monotone and deep it sounded a bit playful near the end of it, almost as if he was smiling at his own little joke. Nonetheless, Garuru appreciated it.
“Do you know what happened here?”
“Only about as much as you, I just got here as well.” They stood in silence a little more before Vern’s grasp finally let go of Garuru’s shoulder and the burning in the back of his head subsided as well, no longer did it throb and pulsate but instead felt numb. Garuru sighed in relief, stretching his stiffening neck and shoulders then running his hand gently behind his head to feel the injury that was as distant as a misplaced memory. The skin there had healed up and the blood was now dry, the area itself was still a little sensitive to the touch but nothing compared to when it was fresh.
“Thank you, Vern.” Garuru was sincere with his thank you, if it was any other soldier they would turn a blind eye if a comrade was hurt but they learned that a medic was in their platoon. ‘Why should I waste my resources if a medic is nearby?’ would be their mentality, but this guy was kind enough to heal his injury enough so that he could keep on working. The soldier didn’t looked all that pleased at his thanks, nor didn’t say ‘your welcome’ or ‘no problem’ or ‘anyone would have done the same’, this guy stayed true to the Nimonian stereotype and just answered back a short and simple:
“Let’s get you back on the mission, Lieutenant.”
