I think my whole life I've mistaken The Nutcracker for one specific other story - but I haven't thought about it in so long I couldn't remember the name. I tried to recall... right, he was a soldier, wasn't he? The Little Bitch Soldier? Well that's what he is from now on

The thing about spoilers is, I don’t actually think they spoil things for me. That momentary feeling of surprise when the big reveal happens is fun, sure, and I like trying to figure out a mystery on my own.
But I also just really love foreshadowing? Knowing what’s coming up lets me look for all the signs that the creator is laying out for me. It’s a different kind of puzzle, and one that I get just as much satisfaction out of, if not more.
If I enjoy a story, I’ll still enjoy it even if I know how it ends. The most lasting stories we have, as humans, have been spoiled for all of us before we even hear them. Famous tales become a shorthand that we use in every day life. Learning the story of the Trojan Horse actually became more interesting as a result of understanding the phrase first.
There was a time in my life when I didn’t understand people who would flip to the back of a book to read the last page before they started the story, but I think I get it now. There’s a comfort in knowing how things end and an enjoyment in taking the journey regardless.

cas would not kiss dean first. dean would also not kiss cas first. this is their tragedy. but a shapeshifter or some kind of monster clone or djinn dream would initiate the first kiss and they would 100% return it. or the real dean and cas would've just simply fallen together somehow like tripped and fell and gravity would bring their mouths together whoops anyway they'd both take it from there - and that's not fate pulling strings it's just dumb luck for these two dumbasses (affectionate)

that ivan loves till is the most obvious thing about them
but. does ivan know that…?
the ivan that regards his own feelings as shallow, the ivan that learned how emotions are expressed only from copying others… does he even know that the love he’s felt for so long is love?
probably not. and part of the reason is the one he loves himself
because the easiest example he has of love is till's feelings to mizi. till outright calls it love, and ivan watches him so much he has to be aware of this
and till’s love to mizi is totally unselfish, right. he doesn’t seem to actually want much from her—just that she's still there and still "mizi"
but ivan can't be satisfied with just watching
he… wants. ivan wants till’s attention, till’s affection—
surely this selfish wanting can’t be love
...no wonder he was never able to express his feelings straightforwardly when he belittles them so much
but he can’t stand not having anything either, so he does… whatever he does instead to get any scraps of attention he can, from someone he's convinced doesn't care about him at all
only showing affection when till can't see it, right until he knows he's going to die
but ivan's feelings for till are all he still has of himself... to think of them as shallow...
I've seen this translated as "I should've been kinder" to him (till) or to her (sua)
but really, the one he should've been kinder to was himself

Has anyone talked about the translation of "Mo Ran, hell is too cold, I'm here to die with you?" Even when reading this part I thought about how difficult it must be to translate it, specifically because the Chinese verb for "to die with," 殉 (xun), has layers of implications and doesn't really have an equivalent in English.
殉 means "to be buried alive with the dead" or "to die for the cause of/to be a martyr for." The original meaning of 殉 is human sacrifice, which was practiced in ancient China by monarchs and noblemen, who bury their concubines and servants with them to accompany them in afterlife. When 殉 takes place without the concubines' consent, it's a very cruel and barbaric practice, but I think Meatbun used this term partially for its implication of ownership - the concubines are buried with the monarch because they belong to the monarch; Chu Wanning used 殉 because he belongs to and belongs with Mo Ran. In the rare historical cases where the concubines are voluntary, 殉 is carried out to express grief and loyalty.
A more modern and common usage of 殉 is in the phrase 殉情, which means "to die for love." 殉情 is often used in cases where lovers who couldn't be together either because of their families' disapproval, or their relationship being frowned upon by society, or some other insurmountable obstacles, choose to commit suicide together. If they can't be together in life, at least they can reunite in death. Chu Wanning, too, chose to martyr himself for love.
So you see how 殉 conveys so much emotion and subtext in the space of a single word - love, grief, devotion, loyalty, belonging, self-sacrifice, Chu Wanning's desperate resolution, and the cruel circumstances that drove his action.

too many of you guys think nico is the loser and not lewis for letting the divorce go on for so long. like they're both losers about each other. emotionally constipated idiots who can't talk about their toxic homoerotic friendship that imploded on itself like 8 years ago and are now making it everyone else's problem. yeah nico's on television or in beer gardens talking about lewis all the time but like every other month some reporter is like "lewis, what's your favorite moment in your career?" and lewis no hesitation is like "oh man, karting, y'know? everything was simpler then" and then spends another six months skirting around nico's name. like this whole thing they're doing in the media isn't some kinda extended foreplay for them. they're both still pressing on the bruise to make sure it's still there!!! every few months, they're literally just asking on public television, does it still hurt for you like it does for me? and like clockwork, someone will release new information about them or one of them will say something about each other (in my heart, he's still my best friend/yes... and teammate) and the answer will remain the same, yes, of course, always.
