Welp. Okay I watched the last episode of ofmd.
To sum up my thoughts on this season I will say that whilst I enjoyed it and felt the love and passion and respect for its queer fanbase throughout, it didnt hit me the same way the first season did. It felt like maybe a little bit of that season 1 magic was missing and for that I very much blame Max's cutting off 2 episodes and slashing the budget. They had a lot of story they wanted to tell that would have worked so much better in 10 episodes.
I consider the last 3 episodes of season 1 some of the best TV I have seen in my life. From the use of The Chain in ep 8, through the dramatic highs and lows of eps 9 and 10 it was edge-of-your-seat drama and I was in awe at the creators that put it together. But one of the reasons why those 3 eps were so good is because the drama and the pivotal moments were given time to breath.
If those 3 eps were given the same lack of time and budget as season 2, no doubt they all would have been crammed into 1 episode and it would not have had the same impact.
If anything that last episode should have played out across two, with Izzy's death being the half way point and cliffhanger ending leading to a final battle and somewhat happy resolution.
I'm not mad at Izzy's death. If anyone was gonna die, it was gonna be him. His status as Blackbeards enabler and sometimes mentor is over. For Ed to truly be free, I think Izzy always had to go. From a storytelling perspective it makes perfect sense, even though I am sure a lot of fans are absolutely heartbroken about it.
Another casualty of the reduced screentime meant certain original cast members weren't given anywhere near the amount of screentime they should have had. I was expecting a lot more focus on Jim as they were basically the third lead of s1 due to them getting the same backstory as Ed and Stede. All of the crew appear to have had drastically reduced parts which does feel like a big loss to me.
Its funny actually, OFMD S2 suffered from the opposite problem to GOS2. OFMD had too much story to tell in a limited timeframe, GOS2 had very little story to tell outside of the flashbacks and probably too much time given to it. Both shows season 2s suffered from tremendously bad pacing issues.
Also, the one thing the final episode made so obvious to me, is the uncertainty of getting a s3 renewal. It is so clear in the way they tried to wrap things up in a happy bow as best they could, so that if they do get cancelled it leaves fans at least somewhat satisfied. I hate this though. I hate that studios are so fickle and ruthless that creators have to gamble with good quality writing and avoid cliffhangers because of asshole executives who dont actually care about the stories.
Because of the fast pacing, and the fear of cancellation, it felt more like a rush happy ending instead of a part way point in a bigger story, with important character development still to come. Perhaps I need more time to absorb the story in a full rewatch, but im not exactly itching for more at this point, whilst also not really being satisfied with what I got either. I wish we had left Ed and Stede in at least some minor peril, like have them captured and threatened with hanging but at least in a good place romantically, so that we can start speculating about what kind of escape plan they will come up with in season 3. Leaving them in a dilapidated old inn somewhere just felt wrong to me. Instead of ending the season with the stakes sky high (like season 1) it feels like they left season 2 with zero stakes at all, instead of at least a happy medium. At this point we should be turning to fanfiction and wondering what happens next, but instead I'm left thinking "okay then. That was good. What can I watch next?" I don't need to bury myself in fanfic and fanart to feed the hyperfixation this time around, and that is where I feel the most loss.
I'm sure others will have hugely different reactions to me though. Perhaps my expectations were too high? Perhaps my GO obsession just isn't leaving room for OFMD this time? But then again, I think if GOS2 hadn't ended the way it did, I wouldn't still be so obsessed with that either.
Sigh. I dunno. It was a good fun show and will no doubt still be hugely popular with devoted fans, but for me I just can't say it cast the same spell over me as it did last year.

This has been an entire tangent but the tldr is I didn't ship smallidarity until Joel was absolutely unbearable and obvious over just how much the cuteness aggression he gets over Jimmy Gets To Him.
Also I see your tags and I bring you this: in watching E1, am I insane or is the whole "Katherine was his first ally but I am his BEST ally, I will call her a coward and get genuinely angry at her for not going to the lengths I will to protect Jimmy" give off possessiveness. Not possessiveness as in jealousy, ownership, or anything like that but more in the sense that he takes great pride in being the one who takes care of Jimmy best, so to speak and to be the one who protects him when he needs it. This isn't really related at all to what you said but I'm doing my best and it's 6 AM as I write this, I have not slept and I should cut myself off before I spout even more nonsense.

I ADORE THEM IN EMP S1!!! their dynamic is so unique there because of how wholly and overwhelmingly soft/positive it is. theyre allies from the start and BEST allies… auuughh.. yesshh Joel gets sooo defensive over Jimmy in s1 its beautiful. how quick he is to go absolutely murder mode for Jimmy. but how quick he is to be soft for him too. SIGGHHHHH. its my dream fr. the possessiveness.. YES.. theyre just SO important to eachother and it drives me crazy. he treats Jimmy so special. the way that he has little rooms for just Jimmy and Lizzie in his palace… the special roles they both hold… his wife and his best friend… there is def such a special connection there. and the possessiveness, Jimmy has so many more allies and close allies than Joel does. Joel just enforcing and affirming his station and specialness to Jimmy every once and a while.. by insulting his other allies augshs.. augh.. I just love them
also, for anyone else mulling over boundaries still; if you want specifics he just said he finds it “a bit weird” and iirc he didnt really say you cant do it. he just doesnt get it cause hes such a wifeguy. if youre concerned you can still tag it properly/keep it out of main tags. but if he was Really upset by it he would Not be encouraging and escalating it, and making the jokes he does, and putting them in his videos, and liking comments people make about them, and the tweets he makes, and and and and… if people are harassing u on behalf of him, they dont really care about what hes comfortable with, they just wanna punch down at someone. I get wanting to be respectful, but Ive also seen it used for such cruelty 💔 so I think the most important thing to keeping everyone, including the creators themselves, happy is to keep things to the right tags and spaces and being kind to yourself and others and blocking what you need and keeping out of peoples business.

anyway . i suppose that's. a little misleading. that being said i think this grew into something waaaaay larger than i originally planned @.@ like it was supposed to be a fun little addition to the surprisingly small amt of footballer arthur fics we have but now this fic has double daddy issues (balinor my beloved...), coming out, sports injuries, shitty coaches (aredick die by my sword) and never making the national team. HUH??? i just wanted merthur to fuck on the pitch... (joke) (just in time for fuck him on the field friday)
also there's side stories. like one is when the players get handcuffed tgt for 24hrs but they've got an uneven amt for it and merlin gets roped in
and then there's the valentine's day arwen special that i somehow accidentally made into a statement about arthur's attitude toward his sexuality?? and feelings for merlin??? through his anxiety about his date with gwen????
“All good?” Merlin asks.
“Never better,” Arthur replies, then pivots and walks directly into his closet. He stares at his barren shoe rack before he feels hands on his shoulders, and Merlin is turning him around and guiding him back out.

there's like. ik i rly only talked about the side stories but u have to realize just how much has already gone into this fic and i wouldn't even say i'm halfway done. i don't think i've written out a single match which is also funny bc i've been keeping up with the prem and actually think i can do it now. i just keep dragging my feet abt it lol
i think the hardest part for me is when im gonna have to seriously injure arthur. i didnt want to but i think it's an important way for his and merlin's relationship to progress and also would explain merlin's attitude toward him in january. its less abt injuring him and more abt him having to sit out of games not for like. lineup stats/compatibility reasons
oh my god typing this all out made me realize we haven't met like. half of the guys on the team yet. i was sitting here like "i need to rewatch eps with all the knights bc i dont trust myself to write percy and elyan accurately" but now i just realized i dont even know if mordred is on the like. squad yet or if he's still with the u18s (after a brief check with my info page he is. i'm gonna be sick)

now that the three specials are over, i got a bit nostalgic and watched some eps from season 4, but then i just decided to do a whole rewatch of classic rtd.
i just finished the girl in the fireplace, and i know its been said before but wowzers it really is modfat's prototype for the doctor/amy/river era, huh.
i havent watched it since the first time which would have been in 2010, and even then i remember how struck i was by how out of character the doctor felt, and how out of place the episode feels tonally. like when the doctor realized he was stuck in france, its like he completely forgot rose and mickey were trapped on an empty space ship, didnt even spare a thought for them. and they felt like two kids he was babysitting the whole time rather than actual companions.
it made me realize that part of what makes blink and family of blood so good was that the actual doctor was barely present so he didnt have a chance to mischaracterize him lol

you're right: it's been said to DEATH and by more eloquent people than me, but looking back gitf truly was a giant red flag re: some unbearable m*ffatism (as was the library two parter lbr). which is kind of funny because, despite being a HUGE tenrose girlie, 15/16 yo me looooooved that episode back when i first watched s2. but i feel like with every single rewatch since that first one i get more and more and more annoyed by it. m*ffat hated rose and it really shows etc etc. there are still some elements of it i really enjoy (the monsters kinda fuck and the concept of them trying to fix the ship with human parts is great, as are the whole time window thing. i love when eps blend historical & futuristic. also the soundtrack SLAPS). and i do think as a tenrose supremacist there's a lot of ways to interpret it that REALLY works for their relationship: it's right after the sarah jane ep and the doctor being truly confronted with rose's mortality/having to potentially leave her/lose her like he lost sarah for maybe the first time. (at least the first time as ten??) so him bringing mickey on board and then flirting with someone else to put distance between them/hide from his feelings is something i can work with. and it also works as a condensed echo/parallel of what tenrose's romance MEANS for the doctor; a blink of an eye and she'll be dead. but i dont think that was intentional on m*ffat's part. i'm just doing the heavy lifting.
overall, there's just a bunch of moments where you're kind of going: wtf the doctor wouldn't say/do that ????? even if he wasnt in love with rose (which he IS), he'd CARE that he left her alone. i can buy him leaving to save all those french people cos he wouldn't let innocents suffer.... but he'd be UPSET he lost ROSE and THE TARDIS??? it's bullshit. but then, i hate the way m*ffat writes ten in general (dont get me started on the 50th). and tbh i STILL don't understand why madame de pompadour even ends up falling for the doctor in the first place? it's completely shallow and superficial, like most of m*ffat's romances. it's like he's always trying to write a love at first sight/fairy tale story but he doesn't give it much substance so you're left with something completely hollow. it's emotionally empty.
anyways, he was much better at writing standalone eps than showrunning (imo), but even they haven't aged as well as some others rip.

YOUR 2521 ASK REPLY, YES TO ALL OF IT. god, this drama could've been top 3 dramas of all time if it wasn't for the ending. never going to forgive them giving us a story about hope and love, and friendship only to end it that way. like you said, if they wanted me to BELIEVE these characters would do this to each other, you shouldn't save it for the last 2 episodes. they were literally not wanting to let go of each other at the bus stop. the writer could've easily fixed the story then. they couldn't be apart or not care about the other that they RAN TO FIND EACH OTHER, CRYING, HOLDING ON TO EACH OTHER, THEY DID NOT WANT TO LET GO. also... when people say its realistic... not for them, it made no sense for them. like you said, they built such an amazing foundation as friends and suddenly they break up and suddenly, they can't ever speak to the other again apparently??? how is that realistic? even if they did break up, u cant convince me heedo and yijin wouldn't have kept in touch. also, heedo carrying yijin everywhere with her, from the rainbow chairs to writing what she did on her daughter's ballet shoes, to her looking like she still feels grief about them not being together. btw idk if you know but they were planning to add a shot of heedo's husband with their daughter when she was younger getting on a bus, and im glad they didnt use it cus where have you even been? the way heedo's face lights up when she talks about him or when her mom mentions him. the way shes constantly saying 'thats life.. nothing lasts forever' god i hate it. like yeah but how do you not remember a trip you took with someone you cared deeply about and also your new friends. for the first time in your life, these were your actual friends. things dont last bc you dont put effort into them anymore, obviously sometimes life gets in the way but we started this show in the time of the pandemic... would've been so nice to see them still connect with each other at the end on video call or something. i knew the show was based off this song about lost love, but i actually thought the writer was way too hopeful with her characters to actually end it on a bad note. i thought it wouldve been the same intentions til the end but the last 2 eps felt like they threw darts to pick an ending. 9/11?? bro come on. anyways sorry this is so long, i have lots of feels about it but ironically i miss the characters so much im on my like 4th rewatch (where i skip older heedo and the last 2 eps) but ngl, it never feels right when i end it there :'(

Literally yes to all of this. None of it made any damn sense and it had to be that the director and writer were telling two different stories. In kdrama land, I think the writer only needs to have the first few scripts ready for the production to pick it up and that's why the director and actors chose it cause those first few eps are like among the best episodes over ever watched. I feel like they starred the drama thinking it would end a certain way and when it didn't the writer didn't want to change her story to adapt to the characters (which to be fair I get that it's her story). It just feels like a major disconnect between the production team and God I will never be okay

in this post i will argue the existence and also beauty of the storyline, in the beautiful and haunting year of 2018, in which our hero aaron gets fuckin kidnapped straight off the street by some punk named sid and then our other hero robert has to go and get his husband back
it’s underrated bc it can never be rated enough and also bc some people weren’t particularly enamoured by it and i’m here to tell u why ur all incorrect

I'm rewatching The Mandalorian and it just made me realize how quickly Din builds an incredibly strong attachment to Grogu. Like Grogu's still learning about Din and whether he likes him or not and it's clear Grogu's attachment to Din becomes strong with time and Din's actions. But you can tell that Din almost immediately (and seemingly unconsciously) adopts Grogu as his kid. It's so precious. I love Din. Aaaah and then just like like— ugh my heart.
The way the show portrays, the bounty hunters and the jobs they do, it seems it's normal for those kinda of jobs happen a lot (like dealing with kids). And the lengths Din goes to protect Grogu, even just at the start, are so great. Like it's so much further than even someone who just normally cares about kids would go in that very specific situation. I mean he puts his entire family at risk for Grogu (which seems selfish, and it is, but it also showed how much he trusted them). I mean he put everything he's ever known at risk.
But then I thought about the way the other Mandalorian talks to Din about how he should go about finding Grogu's people. It seems like a normal thing to bring Grogu back and be okay with not seeing him again. Like you know? Like most people who would care about a child because they're a child would just get that child to the people they're supposed to be with and protect them and be on their way. Especially in a universe like that one. And even the end of season 2 gives the never gonna see each other again, except by accident or extreme circumstance.
But no! Din just wants to see Grogu so he goes to where Luke and Grogu are training! Ah! my heart! He just goes to see the kid like it's no big deal! I MEAN JEDI USUALLY DONT SEE THEIR PARENTS AGAIN BECAUSE BLAH BLAH BLAH. ANYWAY ITS "NORMAL" FOR JEDI NOT TO SEE THEIR FAMILIES AGAIN BUT DIN JUST GOES AND SEES HIM LIKE A PARENT GOING TO VISIT THEIR KID AFTER THEYVE MOVED OUT. HE WAS SO CLUELESS ABOUT IT BEING BASICALLY A RELIGIOUS PRACTICE FOR JEDI NOT TO SEE THEIR PARENTS AGAIN. LIKE DO YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT IM SAYING??!?!??!?! ITS SO GOOD! I love Din so much! He loves Grogu so much! There's so much love in that man's heart despite being who he is and what he's been through.
Like who f*cking cares about ships, and I really wish those eps with him as the focus were in his own show and not Boba's but I personally loved how they wrote Din & Grogu there. And yes, maybe they're just being wishy washy in their writing but I think it was good for Din as a character and when you start thinking about how Grogu isn't gonna be killed (or turned I guess) when Kylo Ren turns, it was a good creative choice (even if you can tell they really didnt have the Grogu trains to be a Jedi with Luke part planned out into theyre overall story). I think it'll be interesting to see if they come back to Luke or we see Luke again or what's going to go on there. I have the suspicious feeling tho that Grogu's going to want to spend as much time as he can with Din tho, considering Grogu's long life span.
Hopefully this made sense, I really didn't feel like rehashing a bunch of stuff, I'm hoping you can think about the scenes I'm talking about and understand what I'm saying.

ooooh anon i love this question actually and i AM going to answer with WAY more depth and detail than would be required!!! <3
so!!! on the one hand, like, i dont really remember what it was like watching it for the first time? like it was so formative for me that a huge piece of it feels like this blur. like i was catching reruns after school on like Pivot and Logo? I think i came in right around What's My Line / Ted? and then just binged the entire thing and then all of Angel on like, OG putlocker during the spring break of 8th grade while eating almost exclusively cinnamon chex with soy milk. to me Cinnamon Chex With Soy Milk is the Official Sponsored Food of Buffy the Vampire Slayer So Jot That Down. But like, i just remember inhaling the show!! injecting the show right into my veins!!! and i really dont remember how it felt reacting to most plot points. but here's what I DO remember, scattered as it may be:
- was SO into xandelia. some of that is coming in on What's My Line, which is really their peak??? but like, deep in my heart i do still burn a deep torch for them
- ted!! ted was such a huge episode for me bc like,, the high school is hell concept of the show is great in theory, but when it hits in PRACTICE you're like, oh, oh SHIT. oh SHIT HEY HEY GUYS IM BEING SEEN RIGHT NOW .......... (yes i had the worst stepdad known to man YES he is out of our lives now :))) )
- weeping!!! remember deeply weeping at The Prom. when buffy cries i cry !!!
- i also remember!! just, spike's "i want to save the world" speech in Becoming Part II .......... like,,, it AWAKENED something in me. i remember thinking just like, FUCK. FUCK this is gonna be such a GUY isnt he... (and then he WAS <3) . and honestly my love of spike has been such a through-line of the whole thing. like i recently got in the mail one of those "write a letter to yourself in 10 years" things and i Sure Did spend four lines of that looseleaf paper talking about JM's cheekbones sooo
- also was way more into willow as a character! not that i dont love her but she doesn't Mean As Much To Me now? but at the time in my peak Baby Nerd, peak Baby Wiccan, peak Hey Am I Bisexual??? she was everything to me. and being jewish on top of that !! was huge!!
- one thing that has remained SO consistent is that Season Six is THAT BITCH for me. like!!!!!!! that was the deepest part of the marathon watch, i watched it in a matter of DAYS i think. i was like,,, this is the Height of Television, actually, and i was RIGHT
- also in the thread of Immediately Loving Under-Loved Parts of the Show, i never had a hating dawn era. ALL IN for dawn IMMEDIATELY!!! she DID inspire my middle school shoplifting phase!!!! and good for both of us !!!!!
- in terms of what has shifted!!!!! i think like, this is one of those shows you can rewatch eight thousand times and it will give you something new every time !!!! but a huge piece of that for me on this most recent watch has been faith !!! i never like, disliked faith, but i also never gave her much thought? like, faith eps didnt really Do Anything For Me, though i remember always loving her and the mayor. but now it's like oh??? oh she's my daughter??? she's my DAUGHTER
- similarly!! at the time there were episodes i really just didnt care for or remember much? but now that this show Is My Lifeblood like,,,, every episode is my child actually i cherish them all (even That One!) like, even the way this show fails or comes short are just so important to me now bc like, That's Part of It!! this show contains multitudes actually
- also!! i like, never watched season 1 my first time around by accident??? like, bc i started in mid-season 2 i just picked up from there, and eventually went back and watched all the episodes i'd missed!! but there are a few episodes that i just like, consistently had No Memory of. Like, i think i accidentally skipped Nightmares in there? and then in my rewatch during early quarantine i also accidentally skipped Nightmares?? like, there's just some chunks that i was pretty unfamiliar with at the time. to this day im still like,,, oh! nightmares! nightmares exists! how about that! whenever i see a reference to it
- i also think i liked ats more then!! like, i LOVED ats. was OBSESSED. not as much as i was about buffy, but still! just loved that there was more of this world to explore. but as an adult it's like, oh. oh this show HATES women doesn't it!!!!!! Inch Rest Ing ....

I honestly have yet to REwatch all episodes of wwdits season 3, but I think besides the last episode, all others did good for both the plot and the characters???
I saw your recent post about what you want from s4 and I am curious to know what did you think of the rest of s3 episodes (since we all can agree that episode 9 was..... really not that good lmao)
Well I haven't rewatched all the season 3 episodes. The Casino was the only episode of this season I loved, Wellness Center comes solidly in second place. The rest I just liked except for 9, that ep I really did not care for or think was funny... It's still a good and entertaining show but you could really feel how different the writing was this season compared to the first two.
I just don't think Nadja has been done justice this season. She's been pretty one note, even in the fucking episode that has her dealing w her suppressed emotions and her doll?? She spends the whole thing just screaming... idk. She is just Angry Woman lately, I want to see her remorse for lying to Nandor in the sire episode GO SOMEWHERE. DO SOMETHING WITH HER!! please... everyone wants her to be vampiric council leader but she clearly sucks at it and it blows my mind, genuinely.
Laszlo has been a favorite of mine since the beginning and I think this was a great season for him, and Colin to an extent. I really did not care for the potty humor though. It seems a little lazy... and just isn't funny to me at all, personally.
Guillermo also I feel wasnt done justice this season. After his story ramping up in season 2, I thought season 3 would be a big season for his character development. And it has been! But a lot of it has just been in the background... and I just dislike how he is still serving the vampires after everything and continuing to deal w their shit. Everyone is like "oh omg Guillermo is a girl boss Guillermo is manipulating them" that literally almost never works for Guillermo at all. Like yeah ep 1 is setting up for him to outsmart the vamps but that doesnt really go anywhere. He dropped into the background this season and I didn't care for that.
Nandor... I think he is fine. His character makes sense and has been done well this season. But dear god I hope season 4 he is less annoying lmao
I LIKE WWDITS but seasons 1 and 2 made some really high standards for me that season 3 didn't meet, that's all. Like yes this post is me ragging on the things I didnt like but I DID like a LOT of this season! I just dont wanna type it all out lmao.

update on shan he ling/word of honor:
i can follow all the main plot points. i definitely am managing that, since when i rewatch with the eng subs all that is very familiar so i’m comprehending that correctly.
i’m missing details mainly where someone speaks poetically (wen kexing) in which case i get a vague but in the ballpark understanding.
also missing details when people start talking in metaphors/about something that is very not-scene context. i think im getting the general impressions of the Characters, but on rewatch with subs i see how Much i’m missing. In ep 6 zhou zishu mentions “you dont want me to take off my mask, pretty much anyone who’s seen my face died” and wen kexing responds “im afraid of many things, but not death.” when i watched the raws, i didnt pause i just watched in real time and zzs’s line seemed like ‘if i take off my mask u might die/people die/i’ll have to kill you’ which is way less nuanced for his Character than the precise meaning of what he said. and i interpreted wkx’s as ‘lots to fear, even death, i’ll risk it’ which again... loses the nuance of the precise line even though i got the main idea that ‘he’ll risk seeing it.’
A lot of the not literal actions/feelings in scenes i seem to be understanding to about this degree. It’s enough to follow the emotion and surface level of the characters, but not enough to pick up on how GREAT this script is. Also a scene with the scorpion leader - in my first watch i just caught ‘he’s talented, he’s working with the ghosts, he finds the fact the glass was lost interesting.’ so i got the main idea. but with the translated subs i realized i missed they were talking about how HE taught the other ghost who wkx and zzs just encountered and killed, how he was supposed to receive that ghost and the glass to protect it but that didn’t end up happening (which has the added implication scorpion leader might even have willingly chosen to come Late).
Poetic lines, and NAMES are the most direct stuff i can’t always catch - and with the ghosts/sects i am still catching up to their names so in that convo i did not catch specifically they were talking about the ghost wkx just killed. Also a later convo with zzs and wkx, where zzs says he thinks the ghost they killed Was Not the hanging ghost - again cause of my confusion with names i only caught originally that they were talking about him and maybe some doubt (maybe of his motive). Whereas with the english subs its a lot clearer to me wkx is playing the situation blatantly. I also caught wkx saying ‘this is a gift from you of course i’ll cherish it!’ but not that he planned to hang it on a string and carry it to look at - which is a huge foreshadowing line for later, so i lost some impact when watching since i didn’t catch it.
So basically like... i’m definitely able to follow the whole general main plot, as i haven’t had any issues with that yet. Including individual scene’s ‘main vibe with characters/thing happening.’ But everything is vague regarding nuance, since i am missing out on a LOT of nuance. But also?? How nuanced IS this show? I’m loving it? On watching ep 6 with subtitles SO much was layered in, i feel like i could watch it another time Again with subs and catch even more i missed this second time around. i’m in love with the writing. And that might also be why missing the nuance is a bit frustrating - when i watched GYADL without subs, i wasn't missing a ton of themes and foreshadowing and parallels and shifty little wonderful lines that mean a TON. when i’m watching this, every line is Working at something. missing a line means i miss that zhao sect leader knows not only is he weak and peace pushing (which i caught) but he’s also Ashamed. missing a line means i catch zzs is being threatening, but Not that he’s also subtly admiting he already cares for wkx and wants him Not to die.

on one hand im happy that this means there’s gonna be a lot of official content since the eps are supposedly so long that they gotta cut them in half.
youku has been pretty consistent with giving us a relatively good amount of official content. but on the other hand im always slightly concerned that by splitting up perfs, those whose perfs get aired first will have a competitive voting advantage since (as long as they do well) those kids will have a full extra day of persuading people to vote for them through their stage performance. It’s not as huge of a deal as when other shows split performances across weeks, because a whole week ahead is a much bigger advantage than one day ahead. but every day can help those who need the votes. at least akey and zhan yu got aired today.... feels bad for jin fan because he really needs the votes.
also another down side is just this show’s eps are SO LONG they’re eating up a ton of my free time LOOOL but thats how these shows always go for me... because I always end up taking like double the amount of time to watch an ep, just to pause, digest, rewatch sections that i like (sometimes multiple times), make sure i understand, etc. i feel like these shows always consume my life during the few months they’re airing so i’ll just enjoy it while I can HAH

anyway ep 4 starting with singapore buddies huang junrong and sun yinghao speaking english with their singapore accents!!!!! lol can totally relate to yinghao tho, like when you cant read chinese you gotta find someone to translate for you

im happy cui shaopeng got to feature in the bts clip for his group, he deserves it and hasnt gotten much screentime relative to his talent before. im happy akey got a little time and some recognition for his skills too. honestly just happy akey FINALLY got to do a rap stage..... wish we couldve gotten more huang enyu and huang junrong but im happy they got to show off their vocals!! for being young vocals in a rap performance, their stage presence were both really good too! csp’s entrance is epic wow.

(he looks really young wow and so tiny aw) but also like they never bring up akey being old either?? some sort of weird bias going on... but i mean good for yinghao and akey lol
but aw im glad theyre giving yinghao some attention... 10 years and starting off with jackson? oof...

OKAY SO THE ANIMATION MOVIE!
Right so I pretty much loved it??
this here now is quite a detailed take on it cos i guess i’ve talked back and forth about it so much i need give a conclusion
First of all: the set up, that also was the first eps that dropped on cw seed, is pretty much the weakest part of the film in my opinion. also for the film they got bit beefed up with other surrounding world and mood building stuff which helped.
So! Does it live up to the comic? well... yes and no. it has the wireframe of All His Engines but it does divert from it a lot. Most of the diversions are to cater to a certain idea, establishing the Hellblazer universe and tying into material people who know the motion work know. It’s not necessarily a bad thing tho, quite the contrary at one part or another: there is one plot twist early on that might actually be slightly more interesting than All His Engines had. The adaptation of the story clearly aims to bring more insight to Hellblazer as whole rather than adapting AHE, which im not opposed to at all if done well (originally i was really surprised by the choice of AHE to begin with). Unfortunately in some key parts of John’s history as well as key parts of AHE plot, this falls flat and dilutes some potential outcomes.
Where it does live up to the comic tho is obviously the basis of the plot but also has very much the vibe and style of the comic (interesting as the art actually is very different and not to my taste). The comic clearly served as a platform to build this story from and they were very respectful for it as a source. They also took off some little off-character and off-canon things the comic originally had, altho on the other hand they did change and remove bits of AHE that were important for that storyline and suspense of it. There is a twist at the end that arguably, in it’s essence, is even more All His Engines than the comic actually was.
How it stands with Constantine Episode 10, Quid pour Quo? Well it’s quite at the similar place as ep10 and comic. I think the animation has more of the vibe of the comic while the liveaction follows the storyline more closely. The animation makes some huge diversions of the Hellblazer canon which i get to later on while Ep 10 sticks very much to the comic established histories of the characters and to execute the 2/3 of the AHE plot in the episode. I think personally that the comic still manages to be the most interesting of these three and the motion ones are tied at very close second place. Mostly cos the animation fucked up at places and the comic edges up by having amazing lines no one bothered to include.
There is a lot i really loved. In general the whole thing’s actually pretty great? I might need to actually rewatch the whole thing without pausing every 5 mins to write down thoughts or tumblr posts haha. I think it held itself together and someone not so emerged into the comics wont even be bothered by the things i find annoying.
It has a much of a noire theme like original comic did and is something i absolutely love. the other thing i did love was that it wasnt taking itself too seriously either and was very much funny when it needed to be and also when things were just so over the top. Just like Hellblazer is, that is very much a Hellblazer approach in tone. I did love the ‘party’ scene so much, it made me so happy in all it’s ridiculousness and how it was right down to the tee my interests ahah. There was couple non-comic plot twists I didnt even think to wait for and i did love some and appreciate others. John was very much in character, probably the most since Constantine, at least in live action, maybe even in comics. I did also really love how people reacted to him cos that’s another people get wrong a lot. He was called out for being a fucking idiot and a bad person but still getting appreciation and interest from his peers and demons trying to fuck him up. All the time they stuck to All His Engines as a reference point it was as good as it gets with these things.
Loved Asa the Nightmare Nurse so much! She was cool! Also John got thrown around and had his ass kicked I also like that a lot like all you know. Those little inner demon gremlins were cute too i love them
Obviously there are some problems and things im gonna nitpick next. I’ve talked to an extent about the whole Newcastle thing being SO WRONG and how it could’ve been done right... or at least less wrong. I think on my first watch i initially said i don’t care that much but the more i thought about it and now that i watched it again.... i don’t like it. not one bit. I did also initially say I’m not bothered by the fact that ‘Chas’ in this is actually like Chas and Gary and couple other Newcastle people merged together but... in the end that bothers me too. I would be less bothered if these actually served the plot but they dont. AHE doesnt have these and it still works. You dont need “DEEP WHOLE LIFE OF FRIENDSHIP AND SHARED TRAGEDY” to make a mens’ friendship meaningful, that’s just toxic masculinity. Honestly as much as i love Newcastle as a plot and them introducing Nergal to the mix here worked, i dont think the whole 10-15 mins of botching it was worth it. Either do it well or leave it as a vague thing.
One other big thing that always bothers me is the magic stuff. While this did try from time to time to have John just draw symbols, bleed a bit and chant some shit to call up some bigger magical entity, it did also make John do some glowy hands magic shit and referred to him as gifted or some other bs. That’s STILL just WRONG. Why is it so hard for these people to understand? HNGH.
There was also some dumb bits here and there like John driving which annoys me so much. The end im not quite sure how to feel about but it’s also VERY MUCH AHE (to the vibe of it, not the actual end of AHE). I still dont like the art and i think they are dumb for the whole “London Hospital” thing, tho I’m mostly just amused by that.
They did change some stuff from AHE which i thought was really cool on AHE so that kinda bugged me a bit. Not going too much into the details but it’s the usual diluting of comics plot twists. One big thing for me tho was the lack of a clear “trial and error” plot which is the key part of the comic’s plot structure and also was very much present in the Constantine episode but was missing from the movie. The movie on the other hand followed a different Hellblazer plot structure where “John has an absolute solution which has a huge cost but wont use it until the end”.
They gave Chas’ sex scene to John which is a bit unfair. Also the lack of lines like “we bend down and think of England” and John’s joke about skull being a bad condom cos it’s got holes is a huge loss on it’s own too.
And against JLD movie? I do like this way better. Not gonna get to too many details here but this obviously is a Hellblazer based thing and not DC/N52 thing. Ofc this one has bit more canon fuck ups cos it tried to get to so many things but as a whole i think it’s better than JLD and a good adaptation of All His Engines.
tldr; it’s a great little movie and very much enjoyable. it has some obvious flaws but keeps up to the comic vibe, characterisation and plot.

God for real, I have no idea what to say to anything to anybody talking abt my mental health like honestly I do try to be the most honest with my therapist because I dont really talk to any1 else irl abt it but you think I know words for how I feel? no. I do feel like a goldfish. I forget everything I've ever felt when I walk into the building. Thanx 4 the good luck tho 😊❤ I also had a little moment rsd when I asked my dad something and he didn't take it seriously so I did cry, salads are really the worst thing to accidentally forget abt/ something bad happen to it😢 😐 😑 I dont even care if you talk abt hannibal, its fine! I understand! I feel like I complain abt bugs almost everytime, but 😑 I got paranoid because a flying big ass beetle was on the ceiling of my porch? And i was 👀 so I wasn't paying attention when another 1 got all up in my face. I stg it made me mad cuz wth why are bugs like that? I had some watermelon w/ brown sugar and white sugar 😌 also some taco bell 4 dinner. I did write inside of my little diary tho 😁 also im sure ur therapist didn't want to kill u 🤣 We are the same person 💗 I also therapize myself , but its just me being emotional/mentally ill and then me trying to talk myself into being logical abt it. Sometimes I feel like I dont be mentally ill and different and im normal, but once I'm around other ppl im like oh ! yea I got problems and everyone can clearly see that and 😬 I still gotta work on it. ME? for eating a banana too slow????? my rsd barely like bothers me w her bc i just get pissed off like she does this stuff sometimes and it always is ridiculous. "we dont want to get gnats" by me taking a few minutes to eat a god damn banana?😐urgh. i had an awful panic attack bc my allergies are so bad i cant rlly breathe thru my nose right. n i was brushing my teeth and trying to breathe thru my mouth. n i couldn't. i have asthma btw so i was lile oh god this is some extreme asthma attack and im going to die. i did not die. i hate panic attacks like i nvr know its happening in the moment and it makes it worse. n normal ppl masks... SO RELATABLE! anyway um i dont feel like counting all whatever i said so i'll say one thing more. i brought up the hannibal here bc not bc of THAT amv but the one to hoodoo by muse😭 muse is.. big right? i really feel like i live under a rock and i've never been outside. i don't know how i'm supposed to know this stuff. anyway oh em gee. its soooo good. the video. i mean the song is too. i hate amvs where they're like good but the music sucks. even if its good music if it just doesn't vibe then it sucks. anyway idk it totally wrecked me after like seeing abigail die AGAIN and then will saying "i forgive you" and then hannibal walking away and then will n hannibal kill whatshisface together. i might just try to pirate hannibal only bc of hulu's 1-2 minute long adds every 10 minutes. i dont have that kind of patience. i'm always long and rambly do not worry❤️💗

aww man, i didnt finish it because i think ive done a pretty great job expressing my thoughts on season 8. it was freaking amazing? but im gonna write up some of what i planned for that post here.
favourite episodes:
two swords is good because it introduces us to the more violent fern and shows finn being a doctor for shits and giggles (foreshadowing?). i get good feelings from this ep. and these days, also sad ones.
high strangeness - tree trunks is pretty entertaining by herself but this episode had a glorious combination of comedy, quiet pain, and…. strangeness. seeing tree trunks be ooo’s greatest activist was nothing short of a golden meme factory. and it was a lttle sad seeing pb explain what it was all about, perhaps even questioning her own sanity here… as for the candy attacking the aliens, if you remember all of pen ward’s previous work, you sure do get a Little Pink Best Buds vibe.
jelly beans have power - yknow when they ended pb’s arc w the whole Being A Pragmatic Coldass back in the Cooler, i wondered if she was going to stay interesting or get boring. well, lets just say the AT crew have exceeded my expectations. not to mention season 8 SURE BRINGS UP A LOT OF COMPETITION in the whole “morally questionable science lady” area. after the whole King of Ooo stuff the princess has been trying to rebuild her relationship with her citizens, and to see her hot-headedness make it crumble apart… well it must have been like looking into your soul and seeing something dreadful.
All of Islands - yes this is cheating. do i give a fuck? no. uhhhh what were my fave eps? hide and seek was the part where i went “this is the best adventure time has ever been”. martin and minnie was not only realistic, making minnie my favourite side character to ever get that little screentime, it also hit all the right emotional notes as well as having a dash of humor. the light cloud kinda highlighted the differences between the humans and the oooish people, it made us all appreciate the wacky land of ooo I feel. finn could have had his life as a human and lived with his parents, but he would have possibly died during the plague, and he’d have never had all the amazing adventures that made him who he is. anyway finn’s kinda my second or third favourite character now which is a significant jump from a few years ago.
all of elements because i just dont care. highlights: skyhooks was deeply ominous and had marshmalline humming greensleaves which is pretty gay, bespoken for looked like it was gonna be shitposty but ended up making betty of all people a compelling, sympathetic, and unpredictable character… the third one had the ice kingdom which i think is my second-favourite location… cloudy i didnt like on my first rewatch but on our rewatch i learnt to appreciate it for the heart-to-heart bro chat that it was… slime central had funky skating (slime kingdom ftw) and the BEST humor in the miniseries alongside jake fucking dying, happy warrior is my least favourite of the eps but thats because it was setup for the much more magnificient hero heart which is my favourite… the reason for that is because it’s worth the most analysis and has the heaviest atmosphere. from lsp eating marceline’s face to finn holding back his fear to pb going fucking nuts and all those chilling candy zombies, this was the climax of the miniseries for sure. skyhooks II was a cooldown after the climax and a sort of resolution. it could have been better but the way i think of it, we haven’t seen all the resolution yet. highlights? lsp being the hero (lol) and pb and marcy’s kingdom-takeover song. pb’s actions in elements make me think that the power made her exemplify all her negative, controlling traits. she tried to take over the other kingdoms to make people “happy” and they ended up losing all their individuality. remind you of The Thin Yellow Line? the same sorta goes for FP but not really cos FP’s only negative trait is her awful temper.
abstract because i fucking love jake. i know some people found this ep disappointing but i did not.
ketchup for best filler ep because it looked GORGEOUS, it made me SMILE, it had backstory and the tale of what Marceline did in Elements presented in such a charming way, we even saw BMO spin a tale about her mom… I’m heartbroken that we probably wont be seeing any more guest animated episodes because this is my favourite one yet.

three buckets is the best episode in the best season of adventure time, and i think it beats out The Lich as my favourite season finale. it’s sad, it’s dark, it’s sweet, it’s hilarious, it’s ominous, theres nothing to dislike about it. my favourite part was the last few minutes starting from when fern left finn alone in the cave. he freaks out for a while which makes us wonder if he might actually die in here, then the robot arm in a surprising twist turns out to have a pb-siri that thanks finn for what hes done which is cute. and finn discovers his salvation in the rock drill and fucking weed whacker. then he fights his clone fern now COMPLETELY off the deep end, and just when finn is giving up, well…
“What are you doing?”
“Weed whacking!”
“…What are you?”
“A weed whacker :D”
“It doesn’t have to have this… finnality!”

i think the end of this ep is more defined by what isn;t said than what is said. finn is so shocked that he can’t even talk. bmo gives us one final bout of dark humor. then we switch to…. Fern……. finally free of his shell but a mere ghost of what he was…. his look of pure rage as he gets picked up by who we believe could be a scholar of Golb…. uncle fucking gumbald.
What a DEVASTATING finale, and what a fantastic setup for the final arc of Adventure Time!
a comment i had to make about the last few eps is: it’s suspicious that we didnt get a followup for PB after Elements. but even though Peebles wasn’t in these eps, she didn’t feel absent either. especially with Marceline’s story in Ketchup, Fern’s remembering what he did in Whispers, and literally everything in the last 3 minutes of Three Buckets, i feel that there’s something big building up for her. we’ve yet to see the consequences Elements had on PB who was out of everyonne the most dangerous elemental, the one who took her powers to the furthest extreme. considering what happened in Jelly Beans Have Power, iiiii expect this followup to be soon. maybe it’ll be big? maybe it’ll be quiet. either way i look forward. and if i’m disappointed? well it’s happened before.
altogether season 8 is my favourite in the show for obvious reasons. i dont think season 9 has the possibility of topping it but i really cant wait to see what we get next either way, just in case it manages to be even better.
no matter how adventure time ends, though, i think it’s going to hold a place in my heart for a long time.

this just reminds me that even tho shi mingze is their cool, handsome leader, hes still the youngest in bg project............

and this all took place before zhenning ever ranked into top 9.... so to them, this opportunity wouldve been really important for zhenning too, bc maybe he wouldve really needed it to get into top 9. but at least we know now.... he has enough popularity that they made the correct choice and hopefully more people will notice shi mingze as a result
