The Bear Scene (tm) has been in my head for weeks.
Kratos has spent the past 14+ years struggling to move past the tragedy in Greece and his guilt over killing his first wife and daughter, whose ashes he now wears on his skin. The whole reason why Kratos was so distant with Atreus was because he felt unworthy of his child’s love and admiration, being the monster he thought he was. Furthermore, it’s not so great a leap to understand that Kratos was scared of loving a child again. He’d lost one already. By distancing himself from Atreus, he could protect both himself and his boy.
But now, during Ragnarok, Kratos has allowed himself to love again, and in doing so, they are closer than ever. So when the bear that Kratos nearly kills transforms into his son, covered in blood and bruises -- which Kratos inflicted -- and not opening his eyes, I can only imagine the horror. The panic. The self hatred boiling in his gut. It’s happened again. I've killed my son.
It’s the risk Kratos has taken by finally drawing close to Atreus. It is his greatest fear come to life before his eyes. We know throughout the game that Atreus is Kratos’s whole world; he has said again and again that, if necessary, he would readily die so that Atreus could live.
So when Atreus finally opens his eyes, I can only imagine Kratos’s relief. To me, it’s heartwarming, in an odd way, seeing Kratos so earnestly care about his son. But it is an important scene because here is where we see Kratos’s motivation to remain put and not involve himself in another war. Because entering another war puts him at risk of becoming the God of War once again -- vengeful, full of rage and hate, and lacking self control. Entering another war puts him at risk of falling back into his old ways. Old ways that might include familiar tragedies.

Looking forward to your pokemon scarlet fic. Will you be making mister lab coat with sandals a chemistry teacher for some SI is not impressed with blatant lab safety rule breaking, I told you so moments? Principal in the background amused by small feral child with big lizard telling adult off with a list of safety rules they are in violation of. Like he is in the hallway just thinking "Why did i hire this guy again?" The troublemakers instantly like her for calling teach on his stupid.
he's a biology teacher, but the labcoat and sandals combo pisses Scarnoa off LIKE HOW DARE YOU GO INTO A LAB LIKE THAT BIIIITCH.
also sorry for the late reply, I got distracted with stuff and now that the game is out, I’ve just been playing nonstop. Been getting so many ideas as I play, from lowkey yandere (joke) Nemona, to tsundere Arven, and kuudere Penny. surprising no one, I like Arven best while Nemona fucking scares me after nearly kicking my ass in the second fight with her Pawmi. :V
Penny is just there, but uhhh, she’s cute. Nice backpack.
anyways whats been so fucking funny is that Koraidon/Miraidon effectively gets a sandwich and immediately goes “I owe you my life” and chooses to stay with you.
That is EFFECTIVELY what happens with Scarnoa, except Koraidon doesn’t really need a sandwich and just grabs Scarnoa and carries her off like some mama cat with a kitten. Koraidon still steals her sandwiches. :V
Semi feral child gets kept feral by massive lizard. More at 11 after Scarnoa processes the fact that the professors have apparently fucked, because Arven is their son. So in this fic, expect them to both be Arven’s parents. Hilarity ensues because “WHAT.”
Playing this game in Spanish has been a riot, what with all the Spain Spanish fucking me over at times (fun fact: when you pick languages, it DOES state that the Spanish is SPAIN Spanish). That said, I know a lot more Spanish than I give myself credit for, because I’m able to read everything without too much difficulty. It’s just Spain colloquialism fucking me up, and the fact that I know Mexican Spanish.
Scarnoa is in for a ride. Especially since I finally got to the scene where I learned Penny’s name in the game and since it’s in Spanish, she is Noa. So SPIDER MAN POINTING MEME TIME.
That aside, there are SO MANY BIRDS, and I’m so happy!!! A freaking flamingo, parakeet, ostrich, duck...BIRDS EVERYWHERE. It’s amazing. I plan on doing a bird-only Nuzlocke after this run (in English), so keep an eye out for that.
