The thing I enjoy the most about Willow is that it feels exactly like what fantasy stories felt like to me when I was a child. Not overly-complicated political realistic bullshit, it doesn’t take itself too seriously either
It’s just purely classic fantasy, it’s all about magic and a multiple heroes’ journey, and it’s got the whimsy of fantasy. You just know the story will have a happy ending, and it’s already comforting and already feels fun and nice to watch because you don’t have to expect massive tragedies or a bad end. And yes, I love happy endings in movies. At least in my escapism, I want to be happy. I want to spend these few hours legit having a good time. Willow always gave me that, and it’s giving me that now. ❤️

NCT 2020 Reaction to: What To Do With Loving You

A look at how the members would do for the one they love or how they might change from loving that special someone.
Taeil (The Manly Man, Yet Power Vocal, Sheesh~)

When Taeil finally admits to his feelings, I feel like there may be some insecurity there. Being around you in the beginning he would never know what to say or how to start a conversation and he would fear that you’d find him not entertaining to converse with. As he gets more familiar with you and talks with you more, he would become more comfortable and you may find that he initiates a lot of the conversations. So by liking you and getting to know you, Taeil would be more comfortable with talking to others and initiating interactions.
Taeyong (Artistic, Passionate Rapper and Caring Leader)

So long as Taeyong didn’t realize there were romantic feelings there, he wouldn’t have too much trouble talking to you. But once he did realize he may feel more for you, he would have these lingering glances and become more hesitant to be touchy with you (like hugs or playful pushing, so on and yada yada). This shift in behavior would probably be the biggest give away to his true feelings. Basically the opposite of Taeil, where liking you would make him act far more careful than he was around you before.
Johnny (The Mood Making, Yet Calm Sir)

Very thoughtful towards you. Not so much in doing things for you or acts of service, rather he would be one to ask how you were doing and take an actual interest in the things you were doing. He would want to actually get to know you if he had an interest in you and would somewhat expect the same of you. A relationship takes two so of course he wouldn’t want the interest to be one sided and would want you trying to get to know him too. 
Yuta (The Takoyaki Master, and Politely Keepin It Real, Osaka Man)

I feel like Yuta would make it pretty clear how he feels about you. Yuta does not strike me as the type to give time to those who don’t interest him and he would be the one to initiate a lot of interactions or hanging out between himself and his interest. At the same token, he wouldn’t lie around his crush and he would be very upfront with his opinions. Probably wouldn’t mind a good debate if you are good friends and would enjoy conversation that goes both ways (not just one person talking at another).
Kun (The King of Magic and of Food)

Hobbies are something I feel Kun and his crush would bond most. Even if they weren’t the same interests he would display interest in what you like to do and if he didn’t understand it he would try to. Kun would also be more than happy to explain his hobbies to you and tell you everything he knew about it. May even feel so inclined to look more into things just to have the chance to explain it to you. So in a way, it’s a light form of flexing and showing off the knowledge that he has.
Doyoung (Vroom Vroom; The MC Vocal)

Doyoung would put his crush through the pits. This means that he would do the same wild and weird things he normally does, still have the same wit and sarcasm per usual, but triple that around you. This behavior is Doyoung’s way of testing your limits and getting to know whether you could handle him in his prime trouble making condition. Doyoung strikes me as the type to not shy away from someone or change how he is around his crush (while a good portion of the members do, Doyoung gets smacked pretty much at the top of them all). A big thing for him is having your support for all of his dreams and goals, and so making sure he has that is crucial for him.
Ten (Dancing Devil and Whimsically Cute)

Remember Kun’s reaction? How he was soft flexing and showing off? Well there is nothing subtle about how Ten acts in front of his interest. He knows he is an exceptional performer and he knows where his talents lie. So anytime he intends to put on a show, best believe that he makes sure you are around to see it. This is meant of course in the best way. Ten wants to show the best side of himself to his crush in the beginning, and once you become better friends he would be a little more willing to show the different sides of himself. Ten values the first impression and since he likes you he wants to give you an unforgettable first impression of himself. So really, Ten would be pretty stiff and straight faced around you at first and only later on would he allow you to see his more bubbly and different sides of him.
Jaehyun (Sensitive, Springtime Lover, Mr. Valentine)

Jaehyun would take the time to ask quite a few questions when getting to know you. It’s not so much whether you two would agree or not rather he’s making sure you don’t have too many views that skew drastically far from his own on things that matter (something like you hate plastic beetles and he loves real flies, something like that). Seeing how you talk about your views on things and how you go about disagreement is pretty crucial because he wants to be able to have conversations and healthy discussion with his potential significant other. Once he knows you and gets long with you, he would be very talkative and goofy around you.
Winwin (The Dancer of Grace, The Tough Cutey)

I feel like Winwin would be like some cats. Where the less attention you give it, the more it wants your attention. Winwin wouldn’t want to be smothered or constantly cuddled by a potential crush right away, and would appreciate someone who gives him his space and someone who allows for there to be a comfortable silence. Being comfortable and being able to relax around someone is something that screams Winwin to me. If his crush can read him well and learn to understand him, then Winwin would be pretty happy around them. If Winwin was around someone like that then I think it’s possible he would become clingy to them or ask for more attention from them (AKA a decent fraction of cats).
Jungwoo (Stomach=Abyss, The Pure Vocal)

A big sign of whether he could get along with you or not is how you two would get along over a meal. If you’re picky and don’t like to try new foods or things, then I think it would be a huge damper for Jungwoo. Being able to be open to not just food but experiences would be something Jungwoo would admire in a person and so if his crush had that he would be pretty smitten with them.
Lucas (That Low Low Rap, The Charming Wit)

At first I thought Lucas may be showing off and flirting version 2.0. BUT, thinking on it more, I don’t think Lucas would be that way at first. More than likely, Lucas would be a bit funny and show signs of humor here and there, but save most of his charisma till after he observes you for a little bit. Seeing how you act and behave and take to humor would be a big indicator to Lucas on how to act around you.  So as odd as this turned out, Lucas would be an observer and with time and comfort he would be a lot more joking and playful around you.
Mark (The Hardworking Rapper, With An Adorable Sneeze)

If Mark had a crush, it would only become relevant after talking to the person a couple of times and getting to know them. Sure he could look at someone and think “Wow they’re really pretty or they’re really cute or they’re really awesome looking and I wanna get to know them”, but it isn’t exactly the same as liking a person for the person. So only once Mark had gotten to talking to you and hearing a bit of your views on things would he be able to establish whether he actually likes you for you. The only true indicator I can think of that would show change in Mark is devotion of time. If he is putting in time to hang out with you, text you, call you, then he LIKES YOU.
Xiao Jun ( Humble Songwriter Agent Eight )

Xiao Jun would joke around you all the time and be friendly for the most part, but he would be reserved on his interests and what he liked to do. He wouldn’t shove it in your face like other members might be inclined to do, and would hold back on showing you his talents and hobbies out of bashfulness and shyness. It’s not that he was ashamed of them, rather he was nervous to show you that side of him especially since he had only shown you his playful side up until now.
Hendery ( Music On The Go, Cucumber Inventor )

Bonding over music would be so huge for Hendery and his crush. To be able to swap artists and talk about why he liked a song would be something he would enjoy doing and it would be a great way of getting to know you. Now if you weren’t the biggest fan of music (I wouldn’t believe you at first, but if you aren’t jam out to sound of nature my friend) it wouldn’t be a no go, it’s rather that music would be a massive BOOST to the whole crush process.
Renjun (The Loving and Smart Artist, The Virtuous Vocal )

The biggest sign that Renjun likes you would come from him being the one to text you or him spending time with you. If Renjun is the one pushing for you two to spend time together, then that means he enjoys something about your company which means he enjoys you as a person. Renjun would think of you sometimes when you were apart and that would be when he realizes that he has feelings for you. Now he wouldn’t change much behavior wise, but if you are zooming in and paying enough attention you will find a tiny grin gracing his face when you aren’t looking (because life is a movie and the protagonist never realizes the crush people have on them).
Jeno (The Mature, Car Loving Violinist)

I get the impression that Jeno is very much the “I didn’t tell you because you didn’t ask” type of crush holder. Would be the nicest to you and had no problem with coming across as super sweet. But Jeno comes across as sweet in general, so I don’t see it being why he gets away with hiding his feelings as long as he does. When you both are hanging out, pretty big on politeness and manners so he would do things that are polite. Acts of service are something I see as big for Jeno. As well as giving them, he would like to receive them. However he’s not vocal on what he wants, so you would just have to be able to understand after however long you’ve been friends.
Haechan (Sarcastic and Soft, The Lover and The Vocal)

The opposite of Doyoung. ONCE Haechan realized he had feelings for you, he would be the sweetest human on Earth~. But BEFORE? He was an absolute tyrant who would take any chance he could to question everything you do because he could. I think Haechan would have this mentality: he knows he likes you but he has treated you pretty harshly and you were still there. SO, why not be nicer to you? Since he wanted you to like him too, he would hold down his urge to tear apart your silly decisions and become nicer. Now if you did something really really questionable-- then he’s not holding back. Haechan would be nicer to his crush than he was before not only to gain their favor, but also because he appreciated you and wanted to treat you better. This isn’t to say he treated you like trash before, rather he was sarcastic and sassy with you almost to a fault. He didn’t aim to hurt your feelings, and if he ever did (even before he liked you) he would be sure to apologize and make it right. All of this just means Haechan is extra nice to his crush.
Jaemin (Affectionate Nana, Dancing Pianist)

A hundred percent would get as close as possible without crossing a line too far that would make him a flirt. He would have you constantly questioning whether he was just that friendly with everyone or if you were actually something special. And that is a hundred on purpose. He doesn’t want you to know how he feels just yet and this is where it would show. The ultimate way of saying I care, but I’m not ready to tell you everything just yet so I will keep you at a distance.
Yang Yang ( Little Sheep Racer, Mysterious Rose Zero )

Has no trouble telling you and anyone around you that he has a thing for you. The caveat is that he would do it in such a nonchalant and casual setting that no one would ever take him seriously. Honest almost to a fault about his feelings. He’d be such a good friend that I’m certain at some point his crush would tell him, “You’re a really good friend”, something like the ultimate friendzone statement (aside from being told you’re like a sibling to them-- ouch). Honestly, not being taken seriously would really hurt him in the end, and I see Yang Yang eventually becoming less vocal about his feelings because the next time he says it he wants you to believe him.
Chenle (Sweet and Soft, High Vocal)

When they go on tours or are out and about and he sees something that reminds him of his crush more than likely he would buy it. Showers his crush with gifts now and again, and because he invests so much time and thought in them I think Chenle would be the type to go ALL IN and fall for his crush hard. Now yes you are all wonderful people and lovely, but I think it would take Chenle a long time before he commits to a relationship. This is because while he falls hard he’d more than likely fall in love with the idea of being with you rather than you as a person. Thus yes, eventually your shining heart would win through and he’d actually start to see you for you. But the most important part of this is that establishment of a friendship first and foremost.
Jisung (Killer Dancer, The Shy Temporary Maknae)

Saying it now and proud, you’d have to be friends for a while. I see it playing out two ways. One, you are friends for a long time and he develops feelings for you with time. Or two, he has a small crush on you BEFORE you are friends, and he hides it until he realizes he is in love. Just what I picture in me mind. Jisung if anything would just be more shy around you, but he’d still have the same level of sass and hang out and all that. I feel Jisung would probably think too hard about it and overthink the situation, thus it would take quite some time before anything more develops of this crush (like him actually asking them out).
Disclaimer: An important thing to note in regards to these reactions/scenarios is that none of them are based on how the members are in real life and are merely a depiction that fits the fiction (as I don’t know the members personally). These are meant to be lighthearted (aside from the angst that continues to rise on this blog) and I hope they are not being taken as pure fact or reality.

170. porky’s badtime story (1937)

this is certainly a moment i’ve been anticipating for a very long time. this marks the official directorial debut of bob clampett, my favorite of the looney tunes directors—the freneticism and appealing looks of his cartoons speak to me the most out of all of the directors’ cartoons, so i’ve been eagerly awaiting the day that i get to dissect his cartoons!
this is one of those “history lesson” cartoons—lots to discuss beforehand. as i mentioned before, this is clampett’s first cartoon. initially, this cartoon was started by ub iwerks himself, writing the storyboards and even getting as far as the layout stage. then, one may monday morning, bob clampett walked into the studio to find the director’s chair empty. he was the director now. ub had simply vanished without a trace. chuck jones was technically the assistant director for the first number of clampett cartoons—that’s another can of worms we’ll open when we get to the second clampett entry, get rich quick porky. regardless, it was up to clampett to finish the job. mentioned before, iwerks’ (and now clampett’s) unit was a part of the ray katz unit, run by leon schlesinger’s brother in law, ray katz. it was run as a separate company, separate from the schlesinger studio, but essentially the same--carl stalling still did the music scores. the only real major difference is that it was limited to only black and white looney tunes cartoons, no merrie melodies. clampett would direct his first merrie melody, goofy groceries, a whopping 5 years later in 1941. for now, the pig was their priority. 
this wouldn’t be the only time clampett would visit the cartoon—in 1944, he would remake it as tick tock tuckered, with daffy starring in place of gabby. initially, this cartoon was going to be titled it happened all night (a take on the clark gable pre-code film it happened one night), but the implied promiscuity proved to be a bit too risqué, and thus porky’s badtime story it was. this also has the honor of being the first cartoon to have porky wearing his iconic suit and tie. much to cover!
after porky and gabby oversleep and get chewed out by their boss for showing up late to work, they both plan to get a good night’s sleep early. however, a variety of mishaps put the two in their place and then some.

the typography of the title card melts away to get a clear picture of our two stars, waking up only to ignore the cries of the alarm clock, its shrill rings juxtaposing with stalling’s calming rendition of “when my dreamboat comes home.” porky and gabby roll over and doze on--an overlay of the clock hands moving indicates the passage of time. 
now 10:00, porky is the one who wakes up first and realizes his plight. immediately he shakes gabby awake (”geh-gabby! eh-geh-eh-geh-gabby, come on! it-it-i-uh-it’s time to get up!”), prompting both of them to throw on their clothes in a daze, with gabby complaining about how it’s a “swell time to get up, in the middle of the night!” at one point, the two put on the same exact shirt, both raveling up into a ball until putting on their respective clothes independently. tick tock tuckered takes the sensible route and has this shirt being porky’s jacket, yet here, the shirt is unidentifiable--porky’s jacket and gabby’s sweater are both elsewhere. still a fun little bit of animation regardless.

in a great bit of classic clampett rubbery animation, the two rush to their garage, hopping in their jalopy. the car takes off with such frightening speed that the entire garage is turned inside out from the process. its animation is very rubbery, tactile, and loose--a delight to see. tick tock tuckered emphasizes the gag even more by filling it with a ton more details--you can compare the two here. 
as the two rush off to work, we’re treated with a lovely under-view of the car roaring by, our vision obscured by the trail of smoke left behind in its wake. the sound of the car horn blaring past (and paired with the motor of the car itself) top off the urgency of the situation nicely, as does the animation of the two crashing their car against the parked car in front of them (with an accordion sound effect to boot.) treg brown’s sound effects add an element of whimsicality to the scenes that are rather lacking in the remake--the sound effects aren’t as prevalent. then again, the ‘30′s whimsicality present in the accordion sound effect may prove to be a little anachronistic even 7 years later. 
carl stalling works wonders with his music scores all throughout the cartoon, but his genius shines especially bright when porky and gabby are dashing to meet the door of their workplace. as their run slows into a trot, which slows into a walk and finally melts into a creep, the ever-present motif of “when my dreamboat comes home” reflects their movements, melting from a hurried, brassy arrangement to a stealthy, furtive rendition. 
their place of work, of course, is “peter piper pickled peppers” (later changed to the more clever yet punny “fly-by-nite aircrafe co” in the remake.) porky shushes gabby before turning the doorknob, cautiously poking his head inside. “the ceh-eh--the coast is clear, c’mon.”
they both creep into the office, both on the lookout. things are looking bright, as it seems there are no unexpected visitors waiting to pounce. porky even voices his optimism by whispering “we’re okay if the beh-eh-beh-buh-eh-boss don’t see us come in.” fortune smiles upon the two as they approach the punch-in clock. tick tock tuckered takes the extra liberty of animating the two physically grabbing their time cards and punching them in--here, they just opt to pull the lever on the clock.

porky goes first, moving the lever and successfully punching in quietly so as not to bring attention to themselves. gabby is next, yet unfortunately for him, the lever gets stuck. the entire scene is a great one: the animation in particular is a joy to look at as gabby even stands sideways against the wall, pushing with all of his might to get that lever to move. predictably, (foreshadowed by carl stalling’s lovely orchestral crescendos) the clock alarm blares throughout the entire office, now putting a spotlight on the duo. gabby’s take from the initial scare of the alarm is wonderful, as is going the extra mile to animate him shushing the clock. i wonder if chuck jones is behind this scene?
after a closeup of our protagonists hunkered over in dreadful anticipation, we pan out to see their boss looming over them with a complacent grin on his face. “well, well.” he chuckles as porky and gabby exchange terrified glances. “if it isn’t the rover boys! and only two hours late, too. aw, it’s a shame you boys had to come to work today. why, i would have been glad to bring your work out to you.” the intimidation from the boss radiates off the screen, too. excellent posing on the boss, and wonderful bits of character animation from the boys, with porky sparing guilty grins in an attempt to make pleasantries before averting his gaze anxiously and gabby rubbing his sweater with his knuckles. of course, the boss’ peachy attitude is merely a front, and we’re welcomed with the inviting boom of the signature mel blanc yell as the boss screams “NOW GET THIS! IF YOU’RE LATE ONE MORE TIME, YOU’RE FIRED! GET TO WORK!” with that, the boys hurry off into the office, the door slamming behind them with such force that it knocks the letters printed on the glass window to the floor.

that night, our heroes are seen going to bed, porky winding up the alarm clock while gabby complains about how 8:00 is way too early to hit the hay. porky rebuts “well, you heard what the eh-beh-beh-buh-beh-boss said. if we’re eh-leh-leh-late again, we lose our j-jeh-jeh-jee-jeh-uh-jo-uh--we’ll get canned.”
thus sparks the second half of the cartoon, rife with slow burning frustration comedy. as porky attempts to get some sleep, the yowls of an alley cat cause him to crack an eye open. he disregards the pesky feline, rolling over... until an all out cat fight ensues. carl stalling’s perky music score is a delight, as is the animation of an angry porky trekking over to his window, shoe in hand. 
porky tosses the shoe out the window, and the cries of the cats subdue. satisfied, porky marches away from the window, patting off his hands after a job well done. “well, that’s that.” he’s rewarded for his complacency by getting a shoe hurled straight back at him. porky’s take as he ogles out the window combined with treg brown’s sound effects (and great comedic timing on clampett’s part) make for a lovely combination--especially intriguing is the animation of porky whipping his head around with some psuedo-smears (really, just some hearty trail lines) to pause and look at. porky is appealing as always here.
now more frustrated then ever, porky returns to the window and hesitates before rocketing the shoe out into the great beyond. fantastic comedic timing as he immediately slams the window down in case of another boomerang effect. his plan is working, as we’re met with only the sound of stalling’s big, brassy music score... until the shoe flies in from ANOTHER open window and kicks porky right in the rear, sending him spinning and flopping to the ground.

even more appealing drawings of porky as he throws the shoe out the window a THIRD time, ducking immediately after. this third attempt isn’t in the remake--as the coast finally, FINALLY appears to be clear, porky marches away once more with a proudly puffed out chest and satisfied grin. and, of course, another shoe in the face reminds him that karma’s a bitch. furious, porky prepares to attack, but is buried by an armada of shoes before he can react. defeated, he waves the white flag by taking cover under the covers. in all, this is a wonderful scene: porky is very appealing and cute, lots of funny expressions. the comedic timing is succinct, stalling’s score is infectiously energetic, and treg brown’s sound effects of the shoe(s) wreaking havoc are the cherry on top of a wonderfully sadistic sundae.

another scene that was removed in the remake--porky prepares to get some sleep once more, but a pesky bee floats in through another open window and decides to give porky trouble. seeing that porky duking it out with a bee was in a previous iwerks cartoon (porky and gabby), this certainly has an iwerks feel to it--some scenes (as we’ll explore soon) definitely have more of a clampett touch to it than others. gabby, who we haven’t visited in a hot minute, complains about all of the noise his buddy is making while swatting aimlessly at the bee with a pillow. the bee lands on gabby’s head, and thus porky answers by whacking gabby over the head with the pillow, who contemptuously spits out a mouthful of feathers.

next order of business, the clouds part to reveal a full moon, underscored by a very literal (a stalling trademark) yet calming, floaty score of “by the light of the silvery moon”. as to be expected, porky is woken up by the bright light, and heads over to the window by his bed to close the blinds, effectively blocking out the moon’s rays. the scenes with the moonlight are really quite lovely--there’s a nice disparity in values, with the juxtaposition of the bright moonlight and dark bedroom. it’s very easy to forget that black and white cartoons were made with black and white paint! (ironically, i’m using a computer colorized version of the short with a black and white filter over it, but still.) against all odds, the moon sweeps over the house and changes directions, making a point to disrupt porky’s sleep. 
once more, porky engages in another battle, in that his blinds won’t stay shut. soon enough, the blinds take on sentience--porky trots back to his bed inconspicuously (in a very similar manner of him trying to fake out the pesky baby in porky’s super service), the blinds slowly rising as he takes each step forward. when porky finally whips his head around in confrontation, the binds snap shut again, complete with a rather hilariously guilty whine of an electric guitar slide to top off the gag. porky crawls into bed, where the repetitive battle resumes from there: every time he closes his eyes, the blinds open. at one point, porky opts to dive at the rising blinds, haughtily tying the string to his bed springs to keep them shut. his plan seems to work, but as soon as he gets on his bed, the entire foundation of the bed is ripped out from under him. we’re treated with an iwerks-ian “dizzy take” as porky rips through the bed and sits on the floor in a daze.

to add insult to injury, a raging storm has now cooked up. porky, now bed-less, crawls into bed with gabby, muttering “t-teh-teh-t-two o’clock. b-beh-buh-be-boy, what a night.” thus segues into a memorable gag that is definitely clampett’s doing, and likely the highlight of the short: a puddle collects on the bed on account of a leaky roof. its presence is enough to disturb gabby, who ogles at the puddle. he sees porky asleep next to him, and putting two and two together, glares at the audience with such a hilariously contemptuous expression. chuck jones is responsible for the animation in this scene--gabby’s expressions are priceless, as is the hidden dialogue and comedic timing. 
a raindrop drips on gabby’s head to assert that no, porky did not just piss the bed. that doesn’t do very much to cool off the goat’s temper--chuck’s animation is wonderfully fluid as always as gabby finally explodes, his raspy voice screeching “WHY DON’T SOMEBODY FIX THESE THINGS!? how do they expect a guy to sleep with water on the brain??” his outburst is enough to wake porky, who does a take as he spots gabby opening an umbrella. ever cautious, porky warns “hey! eh-deh-deh-don’t open an umbrella in the house, it’s eh-beh-beh-beh-bad luck!”
the slow burn timing of gabby’s anger is top notch, all the way through this scene. “aaaww, that’s a lotta baloney. you’re too supersti... eh... you’re too superst... eh... super, uh... aww, what are ya afraid of!?” porky doesn’t answer--nature does. on cue, a lightning bolt fries gabby right on the spot. WONDERFUL detail of porky, ever sadistic, laughing at gabby’s misfortune, who slaps his fried, skeletal umbrella against the blasted puddle on the bed. “EVERYTHING HAPPENS TO ME! i might as well try sleeping under niagara falls!” (interestingly, this line was changed to “egads, i must have enemies!” in tick tock tuckered.) with that, a giant plume of water soaks the both of them. great timing all around, from the slow burn of gabby’s frustration to the comically brief lightning bolt to the all-too-coincidental geyser of water.
finally, it’s morning, our heroes now seeking out dresser drawers as a replacement for a bed. it’s the same shtick as the day before, only they’ve learned their lesson: porky wakes up at the sound of the alarm clock ringing at the ripe time of 6:00. initially, he prepares to ignore it, going back to sleep... until he catches himself. he rouses gabby, and the events of the previous morning play out. despite the two not being late, they rush with the same vivacity and urgency of the morning before--same clothes sharing, same peeling out of the garage in their hot rod, same tearing down the street, same frantic run towards the office front. they skid to a halt, where they’re meeted with a surprise:

another touch of leftover iwerks taste as the boys share befuddled looks, question marks popping out of their heads. nevertheless, they don’t dwell on it for too long--the rush back into the car and zoom straight towards their house, letting the car park itself in the garage as they jump out and run back into the house.
the boys resume their post at the dresser drawers, going right back to sleep. the alarm gives a last-call ring, which porky dutifully answers by smashing the alarm clock with a mallet before heading back to sleep. iris out as we get one last look at the broken clock--compare that to the ending of tick tock tuckered.
and thus wraps up the first cartoon directed by bob clampett! for the longest time, i always preferred tick tock tuckered to this one--my daffy favoritism comes in strong and there are just some elements i liked about it more (such as rod scribner’s scene of daffy shooting the moon), but picking apart this one and analyzing it, i may actually prefer this cartoon. it’s a great start for clampett, especially considering the conditions he was in, becoming director rather spontaneously. it’s far from clampett’s best, but not at all his worst. there are bits of character animation that add a lovely sense of energy, liveliness, and empathy to these characters, bits of animation that are even missing in the remake. the whole “sneaking into work and getting chewed out by the boss” scene has some exceptional character acting, and i mourn the loss of the many shoes being thrown at porky in the remake. for its time, this is a very lively, very fun cartoon. stalling’s music score is phenomenal as always, porky and gabby look extremely appealing, and the piss the bed gag is a great introduction to the warped world of bob clampett and his body-humor gags. in all, i would recommend this cartoon! it’s endearing and makes for a good watch, especially comparing and contrasting with previous porky entries. go check it out!

Rags To Riches Ball Part I: Unconventional Talent Category
In our first part of our Rags To Riches Ball, our queens had to create their own unconventional outfits using objects that made us gag! And, as an extra part on this category, the girls had to create a talent video. Let’s see how they do!

Lila:  UGH! UGGGGGHHHHH! I am absolutely adoring this entire thing from head to toe. Every little piece has a detail, every little thought is so meticulously planned, and I live for it. Looking at this now, it’s no joke - what you’ve done in 7 months, across charm school, across this cycle, you’ve became this truly unstoppable force of powerhouse talent, and this outfit really stamps on the map how much you’ve progressed, from not even sewing at all, to becoming this powerhouse of DIY. Mary, I salute you.The ONLY THING - and it’s absolutely miniscule - your mushroom cut is doing the same as what happened to me - one of the hairs is flaring out making it off-kilter and once I noticed it, I’m like “ugh, this is glaring at me so much”. For your talent - I genuinely respect that you sat there, created a little scene and could master really singing without the camera’s audio clipping or distorting. You’re not the best singer, yes, but honestly, I was dancing to the song and having the occasional chuckle. I’m glad we didn’t get that stilted Weather Girl™ shot you’ve been criticised for in the past, and you kept me entertained for the entire video. I loved this, and you’re cementing yourself to be such a powerhouse in drag!
Letha:  Analyse, the amount of work and detail that went into this look is honestly astounding. The playing card skirt, the accessories, the little crown, even the little nails, it's all so great and is a smart use of them materials. I think the stole/wrap would have worked better if it was just a piece on the shoulders, as it kind of closes you off. The hair has such great volume but I think the structure fell apart a bit from when you initially styled it. I will say I'm not loving the shape you've created, as it's a bit boxy. Either more flare from the skirt or more cinch from the corset would have helped define the silhouette a bit more. The makeup is very graphic and cartoony and is some of your best work of the cycle, as far as blending goes. Your talent video was hilARIOUS and very on brand for you, very Quirky Dique Pigue. You have a good voice and the sing/speak style worked very well. All in all, you really impressed me with your work on this challenge!
Toni: 301’S ON THE BOTTOM I C O N I C!!!! I really like this look, I think it was smart to take a character for inspiration and build the look around that. I love that from head to toe you used unconventional materials, even down to the brows and nails, so props for creative use of uncon. I do wish you had a bit more shape and a bigger bottom skirt for this look because it really would have pushed that wow factor for me. I also think you could have benefited from a staff or a scepter The wig is a big rough on one side and I wish you had taken the time to fix that up. Onto your makeup I live that you used 301’s on the bottom, and cards as the brows.You did a good job of keeping your makeup from getting muddy but I do wish you had lined your lips with a darker color. Onto your talent I think you really picked a strong talent, along with a strong song choice that really showed off who you are as queen!! I think it could have been done with a little editing such as the parts where its like you jumping from conversation to conversation. You could have easily edited that to have a fade between each one just to have it make more sense.
Gluttoni:  This look is an ace Analyse and you look like a fucking QUEEN! This is the type of tedious, detailed work that makes fashion great.  And my sweet you look fucking great. I’m such a fan of classic fairytales and I’m obsessed with your nod to the Queen of Hearts. You really excel in whimsical fantasy looks. The hair looks very grand so congrats on the styling of that and the makeup with card accents are great tie ins to this extravagant look. All in all, I loved the styling of this look. The only this is that I compare it to past looks that have done exactly like this but otherwise this a finished, polished look. Your talent! WOW. I’m not too versed in musical culture besides the one that let me keep my gay card intact but miss lady, YOU DID THAT. I was fully immersed in what you were doing. The set up was simplistic yet effective and I loved the concept beyond words because we’ve all had that awkward Tinder date before. Excellent work in showing us the fact you are multitalented. You went off with these other girl’s head.
Avana Noir

Lila:  Wow. Wow, wow, wow. This is above and beyond, and I’m loving this concept a lot. It kind of has this twisted element of like Wonderland meets Final Fantasy meets the Cloud District, and the animals kill all the civillians and you’re killing your ex husband and the fucking full body shot of you with the blood - wow. The blood must be mine after this - that wig is not doing this concept any justice for me. It’s such a lovely colour and it’s those bangs. If you rat combed through it, really detangle it and get it as flat as you can, it would work - because the volume and the raggedy anne of it bar the bangs fit this concept super well, it’s just those bangs - you could’ve done an egg head dress if you wanted the illusion of it looking lace frontal-y and teased it out even more just so the volume stayed, but honestly - that’s just a nitpick. Overall, really cute and a great execution from yourself! Your talent was kind of a little bit here there and everywhere - I know how much of a videographer you are and editing is one of your strongest talents, and for me, there were standout moments, however there were still cracks in what could have otherwise been something really special and showcase-y. It reminds me of those really upclass OOTD videos that are on YouTube, and the only things that could be improved are the set dressing, and perhaps less shaky camera work. All in all, this was extremely fun to watch!
Letha: Hey bitch, it's Avana Noirrrrrrrrr!!!! You are serving straight up Playboy Easter Bunny, and the sex appeal works to balance out the shape of the middle, which could be argued is a bit bulky, but works as whole. I think a tiddy contour could have helped add some definition, though. I love the theme you went with, you better GET that Easter shit on clearance and make a look out of it. The makeup is fun, but a bit sloppy/messy in some places. I know you were going for a bit of a horror vibe here, but I think if there had been some sfx work over a flawless base it would have worked better than just smudging it. The wig is quite frankly a WRECK, but I like the nails and ears. I was confused a bit by your talent when I first saw it, but looking at it as an example of film it's pretty well done. Good job!
Toni:Lets start with your talent. BET. I thought that was a really smart way to do you talent and to give the judges a good look at your makeup and clothes. I love how in the first part you connected the first look to the second and then it had that huge mood shift. I wish you found a way to connect the second to the third because I think that was really cool and made it seem more professional.  I think that this look is really cool and super out of the box for you. It was smart to tack the easter supplies that were on sale and sue them that way you got more bang for your buck. I think you could have painted the nails to look like little carrots and that would have been really cool. You also needed some form of strap to really hold everything in place on your shoulders. I think the makeup is very cute and very fitting, but that wig is rough girl. I think if you had styled the bangs down to hide that harsh line you would have been better off. 
Gluttoni:  Avana! You made it my love. This look is fucking amazing. I love anything cute and dark and you are giving me that! I love that you are giving us Easter feels for this springtime finale. The easter egg bodice almost had me stumped when you mentioned it but you really turned it as far as construction and execution goes. This is very good look and you should be proud of all the work you put in this because it shows. Your talent left me wanting a little more. I get what you were going after but it really just didn’t hit me over the head with feels y’know?

Lila:  Your pictures this week are a little hard to make out, but either way, your costuming is absolutely spot on. This is extremely amazing work, honestly. It shows how much effort you can really put into something and it’s just so great to see this crazy flower rainbow display. The colours work so well in this and it’s just an exciting mix. The only thing that I would really change is the hair’s length, the length is sort of swallowing you up and it would’ve been much more perfection if the hair was a little short or pinned up. Your talent was kind of hit-and-miss for me. I don’t brand myself a comedy queen but I’m an embarrassment and also tragique, but some of the jokes could’ve landed a lot better. The sound was kind of swallowing your recording up a lot more too - Some elements were just off and for me, really, the funniest part was at the end when you showed some goofiness. I think it’s because there’s not much of that crack into being “goofy” so the jokes come across rather as a story than jokes. All in all, this category was good for you.
Letha:  Lexi, a flower after my own heart. Obviously I love me a good flower look, and the way you combined both the flowers and the colors to make a rainbow is really great. I love the butterfly accents as well as the cloud/bird's nest, and the bright red hair is GREAT, it makes for a really cool gradient blend into the outfit. My only critique would be that the color of your tights kind of throws me, but I know how hard it can be to match them so that's understandable. I think the makeup is very pretty, but I feel like you could have done a bolder lip to keep up with the oomph of the rest of the outfit. For your standup comedy talent video, I must admit I wasn't the biggest fan. There were a couple funny parts and some clever editing choices but all in all it was pretty flat. All in all, it was kind of a mixed bag for me, but I do LOVE the look!
Toni:Hey Lexi! So I really love this body suit with all the flowers, I love the colors on the front but then you turn around and on the back it’s something totally different!!! I think you’ve accessorized it well with the cuff and the butterflies but I do wish there there was something going on towards the bottom because it does get a bit top heavy with the shoulder pads (that I do love). I think the hair is beautiful and really fits the look. Your makeup has improved so much over the cycle and I think I like the eye done with blue more than they one done with yellow and this face would have been perfect if you had done them both that way. Onto your talent that was really funny! I got a lot of good chuckles out of that and it was clear that this is something you’ve practiced and worked on. I think what could have helped this best is by letting the jokes breathe a little and putting more air time in it so that the audience has time to get the jokes. 
Gluttoni: Lexi, Lexi, LEXI! You are here to go out with motherfucking bang I see and I’m totally on board for it. You slayed crafting a look out of these materials and I couldn’t be more proud of your work. You look fantastic in red hair and the monarchs were an amazing touch. You look like a rainbow dream and the styling of this is something I didn’t quite expect from you but I must say I love it. Your talent is something else completely unexpected from you. I was on the floor laughing and I’m glad you can really make fun of yourself even through your trying time and that is the makings of a true queen.

Lila:  This by far is one of your strongest outfits you’ve created. I believe what you’re selling, the plastic is such a great fabric and because it is layered, it gives this nice effect of white kind of fibery fabric. The pink colour scheme is such a fun look and the entire headpiece is such a fucking strong point of interest. With that being said, where are your backlighting photos? I’m a little let down that there isn’t a light feature that you promised us, but that’s besides the point. I’m proud of this look, I think you should be too. Your talent on the other hand, ehh, it was alright. Alright in a way that I was expecting kind of a little bit more effort of a tally of you getting it wrong or right, maybe seeing the lyrics on screen whilst you sing the songs you were asked to do. You have such a beautiful voice and I’m really glad you always give us a listen to it - you’ve really given us such a great insight into what you can do this cycle and I’m so proud to see you shine where you can stand.
Letha:  Sugar, I must say, of your three looks, this is the best put together, and my personal favorite. I would go so far as to say this is the most intricate one of your outfits has ever been. I wish you had done a pic with the tea lights more visible, as that would have been really cool (like in your runway), but I still really like it. Love the headpiece a lot, and the hair is simple but works well with the rest of the look. The makeup is also cute, I would've liked a bit more blending/softening around the edges of the eyes, though. For the talent portion, the singing was okay, but the organization of the video/editing was a bit of a mess. For about the last half, you're out of focus, which sucks, but at least the audio wasn't affected. With that in mind though, this is a solid submission and a testament to your growth throughout this cycle. Great job!
Toni: I think out of all your looks this one is easily my favorite. I think this is so beautiful and exciting to look at. It has so many different layers and textures, along with the lights, head piece, and styling of the with it all really just comes together for me. I really love this look from you. Onto your talent I think it was lacking a bit. The best parts of it for me was when you’d mess up and we’d get to see that spark of sugar humor, I loved that. I wish you had done more of that and just really worked your personality into this, or done another talent that had showcased your humor and personality it would have had a huge payoff. 
Gluttoni: Much like all the other judges have said this is by far your crown and glory of all your looks. This outshines your queen look in the terms of being regal and royal looking. You look fucking ethereal in all honestly. I think you’ve had a very smart mindset in how to use your unconventional materials because they are very well placed. The headpiece is so ornate and beautiful so the straight hair fits well. The makeup is so good. I’d personally would add one more lighter color to blend edges out of the pink on the eyes. The talent aspect was just a dry for me although your singing was good. I definitely think you brought it in this category.
