Hey bitches! I have a question for you about cars! My friend and I ended up buying the same make, model, and year of a car at roughly the same time almost five years ago. She mentioned that she is thinking of trading in her car to get a new one. To me, this is inconceivable—I come from a family that was a maintain-repair-sell for scraps when it’s truly dead and gone kind of family. My first car at 16 was as old and this was the first car I ever bought new and have planned to keep it 10+ years. I think she views having a newer car as a kind of investment since cars do depreciate over time. It doesn’t seem like it’s smarter to do financially on the surface, but is it? Am I wrong?
You're right, your friend is wrong.
Cars DO depreciate as soon as your drive them off the sales lot. They're in no way an investment (with a few exceptions). The most financially efficient way to own a car is to pay cash, keep it in good repair for as long as possible, then get rid of it when it is no longer affordable to repair. My last car was 15 years old when I sold it for parts. I plan on driving my current car until it's at least 15. Then I'll pay cash for another relatively young USED car.
Here's our philosophy on car-buying, in a two-part nutshell, my dove:

Spontaneous Headcanon #31
Sherlock complains about headaches from time to time- it's most likely due to constantly being exposed to mind-numbing chemicals all day in his lab but he's convinced it's due to constantly wearing his hair up.
William wants to help and gifts him a claw clip- something Bonde suggested after he asked them about it.
Sherlock is grateful- but is far too proud to admit he doesn't know how to put it on. For the most part he kinda shoves all his hair ontop of his head and sticks it on to hold everything in place- like a really disheveled top knot.
It looks utterly ridiculous but William doesn't know how they work either and goes with it.

Hey Bitches! It's going to be time for me to finally get a car in the next few months. My 1 hour (minimum) commute each way on the bus had been slowly killing me for 2.5 years. Especially when the bus stops service suddenly due to bad weather (while I'm still at work) or the fact that the last bus leaves at 5 on Sundays (so I can't go out). I'll have about 3K for the down payment and I'm hoping for about 12-13K approved from my bank for a loan. I've had friends say that I can get a $20K car, but those number don't add up. I assume they mean to negotiate down to 15-16K, but that's a lot of money for the dealership to give up! Can you give any advice for me? I'm ready to have a 20 min (on average) commute! I'll have the time to actually cook dinner regularly instead of frozen meals. I'll so excited but I just don't know about the process. Thank you! Have a great day!!
Darling child, we are SO proud of you for taking control of your commute like this. I remember my 4-hour round trip commuting by bus days. Buying a car was life-changing. Of course, now I commute twice a week by bus, but it's a 20-minute trip instead. ANYWAY.
Below is our advice on buying a car. Read it carefully and ignore your friends. Only YOU can decide how much you're willing to spend on a car. And that car MUST be used. Read on to find out why:

do you find it uncomfortable when younger fandom members look up to you? or is it kind of an endearing thing
It's a little endearing but also I don't think I'm a very good influence on young people sometimes LMAO Like, oh shit should I put a weed/alcohol FAQ + surgeon general's warning on my blog or something?? hahah
I'm not going to, like, sanitize my personal adult spaces (this blog, Twitter) because younger people follow me—I'm not their parent, they aren't my responsibility—but sometimes I worry some young person will get offered weed/alcohol in a bad crowd and think about how much fun I seem to have with it and end up having a bad experience. There have been a few (rare) times where I've written a post and deleted it because of both how big this blog has gotten and because I know there are younger people that follow me lol
Just like... If you're gonna try drugs or alcohol for the first time, always make sure it's with someone you can trust on about the same level of feeling safe having a (platonic) sleepover at their house and remember that both weed and alcohol can take a bit to kick in so GO SLOW LMAO FOR THE LOVE OF GOD START SMALL LOLL & stay hydrated
Cigarettes fuckin suck, also. They taste bad, the high's shit, they're expensive, and it's a royal pain in the ass to break the addiction.
Sol Radguy Blazing Gamer Tip: Don't even bother with cigarettes, you aren't missing anything

if the timing had been off by even just a little bit-- if he had turned that corner just a few seconds sooner or later-- he probably would have lived. but if he hadn't been going so fast, the timing wouldn't have mattered.
sometimes people seem to think, "i'll be fine. i'm a good driver. i'm good enough that i can do this safely." but some things you can't do safely. it doesn't matter if you're good or not.
if you're going anywhere today, i hope you get there okay. april 13, 1997 - may 11, 2022
