When he was 18 years old, Lawrence was hired by Steve Allen to be one of the singers on Allen's local New York City late night show on WNBC-TV in 1953, along with Eydie Gormé and Andy Williams. When the show got picked up by NBC to be seen on the national network, becoming The Tonight Show, Lawrence, Gormé and Williams stayed on until the program's end in 1957.
Primarily a singer Lawrence was also an actor, appearing in guest roles on television shows in every decade since the 1950s. After getting his start with Steve Allen's late night show, he was seen in programs such as The Danny Kaye Show; The Judy Garland Show; The Julie Andrews Hour; Night Gallery; The Flip Wilson Show; Police Story; Murder, She Wrote; and CSI.
Lawrence and Gormé starred in the 1958 summer replacement series on NBC, The Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gormé Show. Lawrence made many appearances on The Carol Burnett Show (1967–78), with and without Eydie. The Steve Lawrence Show, with supporting actor Charles Nelson Reilly, ran for 13 weeks in 1965, a variety show that was one of the last CBS television shows to only air in black and white. Lawrence also served as a panelist on What's My Line? (1950–67).

Andre Braugher and the best line deliveries of all time in the worst movies of all time
There is a movie called A Better way to die and it is hot trash.
A Better Way to Die is written, directed and stars Scott Wiper. For some reason Scott's character is assumed to be in possession of a thumb drive that evil Lou Diamond Phillips wants and a bloody chase is had across what I assume to be southern Indiana.
It's bad.
Tumblr media
The only thing good about this movie is Andre Braugher who plays hired gun Cleveland. Cleveland and his cousin Sweet Lou are hired as henchmen.
Braugher is fucking great.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Cleveland's employer has just implied that wearing a bullet proof vest is gay)
His vest by the way has his name on it. Also, everyone in this movie dies, except Cleveland who is saved by the vest.
Braugher gets all the best lines and treats this garbage fire like it deserves some gravitas.
My favorite line, the one I used to shout out whenever Braugher appeared in anything is "YOU CAN'T STOP ME MOTHAFUKKAAA!"
Yes, delivered with his head sticking through drywall and laughing with a gun pointed at him.
And as you probably know by now Andre Braugher died yesterday. Maybe you first found him through Homicide or Brooklyn 99 but for me it was this amazing actor in this garbage movie.
RIP Cleveland, I still believe the motherfuckers can't stop you.

Whenever I rewatch season one I’m always blown away by how good Chris’s acting is, like he was an 18/19 year old complete novice and he delivers such a good performance it’s insane
Oh yeah, agreed! I think the thing he did that made it so good is that he threw himself into the role 100%. He even talked about the kind of influences he had for the character and how he tried to emulate and implement them. There was always, also, a very hard line between Kurt as a character and Chris as a person.
I think later on - when he kind of grew tired of doing the show - he went more so on autopilot, and more Chris-isms slipped in. I would have loved to have seen him do more acting because other than Glee and Struck by Lightning, the few roles he's done haven't showcased just how great an actor he can be when he tries his hardest. (Not that I've really seen him in anything else? The Hot in Cleveland role was of such little substance, and didn't seem like it require a whole lot of acting, tbh.)
But yes, nonny, very much agree! :)

Today Live, Hal Linden! I’m literally pinching myself. Thank you Max Gail for enabling this to happen. I loved Barney Miller, and everyone in it, especially Hal and Max. Topping even that, on break from the hit show, my father, Larry Katz, a borscht belt Master of Ceremonies, shared a bill with Hal at the Yiddish Theatre in New York. My father not only introduced him but sang to open for him, as well. Hal was one of his heroes. To say my father was over the moon is a gross understatement. He was euphoric.
Hal’s career has spanned more than 65 years on stage, television, and in film. Best known for his portrayal of police precinct captain Barney Miller in the hit television series that aired from 1975-1982, which earned Hal Emmy nominations every year it was on as well as multiple Golden Globe nominations. Hal won two Daytime Emmys for Outstanding Individual Achievement for his host work on the children’s show, Animals, Animals, Animals.
Hal made his Broadway debut in 1957 in the musical Bells Are Ringing opposite Judy Holliday and subsequently toured with the national company.  He later starred in the 1962 Off-Broadway revival of Cole Porter’s 1930s hit Anything Goes. To date, he’s performed in more than 20 Broadway and Off-Broadway productions. His numerous stage credits include On a Clear Day You Can See Forever, Subways Are for Sleeping, The Apple Tree, The Pajama Game, The Sisters Rosenzweig, A Christmas Carol, Tuesdays With Morrie, I’m Not Rappaport, Something More, The Education of Hyman Kaplan, Three Men on a Horse, Chicago, Cabaret, The Gathering and The Rothschilds, for which he won the 1971 Tony Award for Best Actor In A Musical.
Hal’s TV appearances have included The Golden Girls, The Nanny, Touched by an Angel, Law & Order, Will & Grace, The King of Queens, Hot in Cleveland, 2 Broke Girls and  Grey's Anatomy, and a recurring role on The Bold and The Beautiful, to name but a few.
Currently, Hal’s readying to co-star with Marilu Henner in Ed Weinberger’s, The Journals of Adam and Eve.
We’ve spoken on the phone. Twice. I’m giddy with excitement. This one’s for you, Larry Katz!

Family Guy: Dianne Simmons Returns part 1
This is my first story so it's gonna be bad
It was a nice, sunny day, and the Griffins were at home watching TV. "I wonder whats on the news" said Lois. She changed the channel to the news, as Channel 5 News started playing. "Good evening, I'm Tom Tucker" said Tom Tucker. "And I'm Joyce Kinney" said Joyce Kinney. "Our top story today, famous actor James Woods is visiting Quahog" exclaimed Tom. Brian was unhappy with the news. "What!? Hes alive!?" He yelled. "I thought he was murdered by Dianne Simmons!" "He was, but long story short, they had the life force of a 17 year old girl sucked out and put into him" replied Peter. "I was his agent". "You were!?" Yelled Brian. "After everything he's done to you!?"
"Here's Asian reporter Tricia Takanawa outside James Woods's cabin. Over to you, Tricia." Said Tom. "Tom, I am standing here outside of the cabin where actor James Woods will be staying while visiting Quahog. Back to you, Tom." Said Tricia. Joyce began to speak. "And here's Ollie Williams with the weather. Over to you, Ollie." "HOT!" Yelled Ollie. "Thanks, Ollie." Said Tom. "In other related news, Woods has a serum that can bring people back from the dead."
"Oh my god." Said Lois. "James Woods is back". Lois was obviously angry. "And he has a potion to bring back dead people too!?" Exclaimed Stewie. "Think of all the devastation you could cause with that" He smiled to himself. Lois stood up and picked up Stewie. "Stewie, it's bedtime." She said in a motherly tone. "DAMN YOU, VILE WOMAN!" Yelled Stewie. Lous then carried Stewie to bed.
The next day, Peter went out to the Drunken Clam with Cleveland Brown, Joe Swanson and Glenn Quagmire. Brian, Stewie, Meg and Chris went out somewhere leaving Lois alone to do the housework.
James Woods approached the cemetery, holding his potion. He approached a grave. The name said Dianne Simmons. Dianne used to work at Channel 5 News with Tom Tucker. She them tried to murder James Woods and frame Tom. She also nearly murdered Lois until she was sniped by Stewie and fell to her death. "Now, I can finally get my revenge on the Griffins" said James. He poured the potion on Dianne's grave. A hand burst out of the ground.
It was getting dark, Peter, Brian and the others weren't home yet as Lois was watching TV. "Everything in TV nowadays is just a bunch of crap" she complained to herself. The power went out. "Son of a bitch" she yelled. There was a knock at the door. She went downstairs to open it. A shadowy figure stood there in front of her. "Hello Lois" it said in a malicious tone. "Did you miss me?" Lois was shocked. "Oh my god! D-d-dianne Simmons!!?"

Kathy Griffin Ingeniously Fights Back After Elon Musk Suspends Her Twitter
Valerie Bertinelli also hit back at the new Twitter owner, who couldn't seem to take a joke in declaring a permanent ban for "impersonation."
Nov 7, 2022, 07:48 AM EST
Comedian Kathy Griffin would not be silenced by Twitter owner Elon Musk on Sunday when he suspended her account for her “impersonation” of him.
She then resurrected her deceased mother’s account to proclaim “Free Kathy” and trigger a war of words with the world’s richest man. (See the tweets below.)
Musk tweeted Sunday that Twitter will permanently suspend accounts that attempt “impersonation” without a clear indication that it’s parody. Griffin and some celebrities had changed their display names to Musk’s, not their account names, to protest his policy change that would make blue checkmark verification available to customers for $8 a month.
“Hot in Cleveland” actor Valerie Bertinellipulled a similar prank to Griffin and issued endorsement tweets of Democratic candidates as “Elon Musk” before changing her Twitter name back. “The blue checkmark simply meant your identity was verified. Scammers would have a harder time impersonating you. That no longer applies. Good luck out there!” the “One Day at a Time” alum wrote.
Griffin greeted Musk’s ban with a response on Twitter “from the grave.” Her mother, Maggie Griffin, died in 2020 but an account that the “My Life on the D-list” star managed for her was still active ― and Griffin reanimated it.
“I’m back from the grave to say... #FreeKathy,” she wrote.
Griffin noted that it was indeed her tweeting “from my dead mother’s account.” “Trust me, she would be with me on this. Relax,” Griffin shot back at an outraged user.
Musk chimed in with the dusty old crack, “Actually she was suspended for impersonating a comedian.”
“I mean… you stole that joke, you asshole,” Griffin replied from the Maggie Griffin account. “People have been posting that joke for hours, you hack. Look, please do a better job running this company. It used to mean something. This is KG btw.”
Musk shot back that if Griffin wanted her account reinstated, she’d have to fork over the $8 monthly fee.

THE QUEEN! THE ICON! THE LEGEND, CHAKA KHAN SIGNS EXCLUSIVE DEAL WITH Srg/ils, prepS new music for summer…..
Cleveland, OH - May 19, 2022 … OK, faithful readers, y’all know I’m falling out of my seat with excitement on this story!! The Queen, The Legend, Chaka Khan has joined in collaboration with SRG/ILS to release new music this summer!
The SRG/ILS group is honored to announce a new collaboration with one of the most iconic and recognizable voices in American music, Chaka Khan! A singer, songwriter, actor, and activist, Chaka Khan is one of the world’s most gifted and celebrated musicians the world has ever known. Impacting almost every popular musical genre and having sold an estimated 70 million records, Chaka Khan has influenced generations of recording artists.
“Chaka Khan is a beacon of light in our industry. Her spirit and her vocals soar. It is a pleasure working with her on this next chapter and we got a hot record here.” – Claude Villani, Founder and CEO of The SRG/ILS Group.
“I am very proud to be with The SRG/ILS Group, a company that is run by a real musician who understands the needs of artists that have been overlooked for years.” Chaka Khan
Her legendary career jump started when Stevie Wonder penned the now classic “Tell Me Something Good” for Chaka when she was lead singer of the R&B, Funk band Rufus in 1974. Both the song and the album, Rags To Rufus, topped the charts, were certified Gold and won the Grammy that year for Best R&B Vocal Performance.
After six albums with Rufus nearly all of which went Gold or Platinum, in 1978 Chaka Khan started her solo career releasing the all-time classic “I’m Every Woman” (Ashford and Simpson). Produced by iconic songwriter, arranger, producer, and executive Arif Mardin, the single and the album, Chaka, cemented Chaka Kahn as a force that was about to take over popular music.
After incredible success both solo and collaborative, in 1984 Chaka released the iconic album I Feel For You. The title track, a cover of a Prince song, was a gigantic pop hit on the radio and MTV and earned Chaka her second Grammy Award as a solo artist for Best R&B Vocal Performance. Alongside being a top selling chart topper, the song made history by being the first R&B song to feature a rap which was performed by Grand Master Melle Mel. That kind of forward thinking always kept Chaka Khan one step ahead of and praised by her peers. The late, great Miles Davis often said, “She [Chaka] sings like my horn.” And the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin said, “[Chaka] is a one- of- a -kind, premier vocalist.”
Alongside the hit albums and singles, Chaka Khan has appeared on stage and screen in such standout productions as The Blue Brothers movie, The Color Purple on Broadway, and Signed, Sealed, and Delivered a musical based on the music of her friend Stevie Wonder.
In 2022 the 10-time Grammy Award winner is about to chart a new path on all fronts of her record-breaking career. Chaka is continuing her hit making and chart-topping ways as she wraps up production of new music that is both contemporary and every bit classic Chaka Khan.
