(genuine question) Would you mind explaining what the problem is with selling human bones? I'd never really thought about it before your fact check on that airbnb disinfo post started circulating and I'd love to hear your thoughts.
I could see it being a matter of respect or consent in general, commodifying bodies of POC specifically, but I don't know anything about the industry, where these bones come from, or what the major ethical issues are. I don't really understand what's different there vs. what I consider generally accepted disturbance of human remains like in archaeology.
Oh sure, keep in mind that I am not an expert! and I'm talking about a western capitalist context for the treatment of human remains and therefore don't have any say in (for example) cultures where the treatment of the dead is different, i have not education or right to comment on that.
to repost what i later replied to the post with:
actually i'm not done, the following are about a different bone seller from the last couple years but it goes over the ethical issues around sourcing human remains
youtube
the short version is: historically and in the modern day much of the human bone trade comes from exploitation of slaves and people in lower castes and so on to the point where even if it is a retired medical model or something inherited it is most likely to be remains acquired without consent of the deceased or their families. Repatriation where possible is the most ethical solution. We do not live in the ideal world where every human skull on the market is like that guy who donated his body to science and became yorick in Hamlet for the royal shakespeare comany. acknowledging the long history of grave robbing, racism, and exploitation in the medical industry and coming to grips with the same disregard of autonomy in death and disrespect in the modern bone trade is all i'm trying to draw attention to.
use artificial replicas in your decor! or try to find animal remains that are sold from roadkill and other natural causes! you can be macabre without [gestures vaguely at the above]
so in a context of people selling human remains to use as decor for profit, that in itself would be less of a morally weird thing to do if the deceased had in any way intended that for their remains (theoretically i'm sure some people would find the concept very cool) but that's just not the reality of these remains. It is very difficult to legally chose how you wish your body to be handled after death if it diverges from the norm, I would point to ask a mortician's video about human composting to show how recent (december 2022) something like that was legalised.
The reality is it is not a market with ethical procurement, the closest it gets is being a primarily second hand market. But the sourcing issue still remains
and the topic of when something goes from archaeology to tampering with the dead is a controversial one but if you want my opinion on that then i would point precedents like the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act, or to this news story
To be clear, i am not anti archaeology or against a celebratory fascination with the morbid. I am very much for demystifying the process of death. But i think that there is too much pain and exploitation and dehumanisation and objectification and commodification of people throughout history and into the modern day. We do not have the ideal reality of all human remains in circulation being willing donations. I am personally for an active process of removing remains from a commercial market, identifying their origins, and repatriation and burial where possible.
obviously exploitation will always happen, legally or not, but while i may personally feel like personhood ceases post mortem i also believe in the autonomy of the living over their own remains (whatever that might mean) and that people don't deserve to see their ancestors and kin commodified in death.
and remember that legally and widely accepted things are not always ethical.

honestly i'm just glad that matt found some refuge here, he absolutely deserves it
Yes! Absolutely! Every time I open the replies to a famous person's tweet I nope out of there so quickly. And I'm not even talking about trolls or hateful comments - even harmless jokes can get grating in mass
So if he has a secret tumblr blog just to look at fanart? Good for him! And if he has a secret blog he can use without a million nerds lying in wait to correct him on shit that doesn't matter? Super good for him! 🤩

for astro anon: in astrology looking at placements in comparison to someone is known as synastry. what you’re describing is venus-rising (or ascendant) synastry. typically this type of placement is taken to mean that the venus person is incredibly drawn to and attracted to the rising person (platonic or romantic). the rising person is considered to be the embodiment of everything the venus person finds pleasing and attractive. you may have a strong urge to please one another. hope this helps!
!!!!!!! thank you 🫶🏼

since we’ve been talking about all those years ago, what are your thoughts on here today? I feel like we’ve become a bit desensitized to it, but honestly? starting your john lennon tribute song with “did I really know you?” is a fucking fascinating (and heartbreaking) move. I mean, the lyrical directness is so out of paul’s wheelhouse. he could have so easily something vaguer, like some sort of anthem to be played at tribute concerts and whatnot. but instead he wrote a song that no one else could sing but him.
Hiya anon!
So, Ive given this perhaps (?) controversial opinion on Here Today, strictly speaking about it as a musical piece, which is that I actually don't particularly enjoy it. Im not sure what it is exactly, but purely speaking about the music itself, something about it just doesn't resonate much with me (so that's my hot take for the day that No One asked for 🤦‍♂️).
However, it does of course get me right in the feels when I hear those lyrics—as Im sure it does for most Beatles fans!
And yes I agree, it's a bit unconventional in that he discusses the more complicated aspects to their relationship. Where George opted to write a song that leaned more towards memorialising his experiences with John + touches on life without him*, Paul seems to focus on an aspect to his grief that's more centred on the dilemma(s) of their relationship.
[Note: would just like to clarify that this is not intended to disparage or put down Georges lyricism/way of dealing with grief; the two songs are just different.]
Like there's that internal quarrel between never being able to get in someone else's head and understand what they're really thinking or who they really were, combined with never being able to know who they would be today, following their passing.
But then, still knowing them, and from that being able figure out some kind of constant presence that transcends them being alive, because you're left with memories—good and bad—that remind you that they were a very real part of your life.

Rowling isn't denying holocaust. She just pointed out that burning of transgender health books is a lie as that form of cosmetic surgery didn't exist. But of course you knew that already, didn't you?
I was thinking I'd probably see one of you! You're wrong :) Let's review the history a bit, shall we?
In this case, what we're talking about is the Institut für Sexualwissenschaft, or in English, The Institute of Sexology. This Institute was founded and headed by a gay Jewish sexologist named Magnus Hirschfeld. It was founded in July of 1919 as the first sexology research clinic in the world, and was run as a private, non-profit clinic. Hirschfeld and the researchers who worked there would give out consultations, medical advice, and even treatments for free to their poorer clientele, as well as give thousands of lectures and build a unique library full of books on gender, sexuality, and eroticism. Of course, being a gay man, Hirschfeld focused a lot on the gay community and proving that homosexuality was natural and could not be "cured".
Hirschfeld was unique in his time because he believed that nobody's gender was either one or the other. Rather, he contended that everyone is a mixture of both male and female, with every individual having their own unique mix of traits.
This leads into the Institute's work with transgender patients. Hirschfeld was actually the one to coin the term "transsexual" in 1923, though this word didn't become popular phrasing until 30 years later when Harry Benjamin began expanding his research (I'll just be shortening it to trans for this brief overview.) For the Institute, their revolutionary work with gay men eventually began to attract other members of the LGBTA+, including of course trans people.
Contrary to what Anon says, sex reassignment surgery was first tested in 1912. It'd already being used on humans throughout Europe during the 1920's by the time a doctor at the Institute named Ludwig Levy-Lenz began performing it on patients in 1931. Hirschfeld was at first opposed, but he came around quickly because it lowered the rate of suicide among their trans patients. Not only was reassignment performed at the Institute, but both facial feminization and facial masculization surgery were also done.
The Institute employed some of these patients, gave them therapy to help with other issues, even gave some of the mentioned surgeries for free to this who could not afford it! They spoke out on their behalf to the public, even getting Berlin police to help them create "transvestite passes" to allow people to dress however they wanted without the threat of being arrested. They worked together to fight the law, including trying to strike down Paragraph 175, which made it illegal to be homosexual. The picture below is from their holiday party, Magnus Hirschfeld being the gentleman on the right with the fabulous mustache. Many of the other people in this photo are transgender.

[Image ID: A black and white photo of a group of people. Some are smiling at the camera, others have serious expressions. Either way, they all seem to be happy. On the right side, an older gentleman in glasses- Magnus Hirschfeld- is sitting. He has short hair and a bushy mustache. He is resting one hand on the shoulder of the person in front of him. His other hand is being held by a person to his left. Another person to his right is holding his shoulder.]
There was always push back against the Institute, especially from conservatives who saw all of this as a bad thing. But conservatism can't stop progress without destroying it. They weren't willing to go that far for a good while. It all ended in March of 1933, when a new Chancellor was elected. The Nazis did not like homosexuals for several reasons. Chief among them, we break the boundaries of "normal" society. Shortly after the election, on May 6th, the book burnings began. The Jewish, gay, and obviously liberal Magnus Hirschfeld and his library of boundary-breaking literature was one of the very first targets. Thankfully, Hirschfeld was spared by virtue of being in Paris at the time (he would die in 1935, before the Nazis were able to invade France). His library wasn't so lucky.
This famous picture of the book burnings was taken after the Institute of Sexology had been raided. That's their books. Literature on so much about sexuality, eroticism, and gender, yes including their new work on trans people. This is the trans community's Alexandria. We're incredibly lucky that enough of it survived for Harry Benjamin and everyone who came after him was able to build on the Institute's work.
Tumblr media
[Image ID: A black and white photo of the May Nazi book burning of the Institute of Sexology's library. A soldier, back facing the camera, is throwing a stack of books into the fire. In the background of the right side, a crowd is watching.]
As the Holocaust went on, the homosexuals of Germany became a targeted group. This did include transgender people, no matter what you say. To deny this reality is Holocaust denial. JK Rowling and everyone else who tries to pretend like this isn't reality is participating in that evil. You're agreeing with the Nazis.
But of course, you knew that already, didn't you?
Edit: Added image IDs. I apologize to those using screen readers for forgetting them. Please reblog this version instead.

thank you for commissioning jaybabs fanarts. they deserve rights. i hope someday they will get adapted in comics and tv shows. honestly screw the haters. i hope someday they will respect the fact that jaybabs is not a terrible ship and were allowed to ship whatever we
Hello lovely Anon.
I’m so glad you like the commissions and you’ll be happy to know that there are several more currently in the works. So much love and heart was put into them and I wish you could see the emails between me and the artists.
I’ll admit anon that as much as I love them I would be hesitant to seeing them adapted because I don’t think the writers over at DC have the chops to do them justice and respect both of them in the process. I also wouldn’t want it to be forced. It would also be very tricky because even if it was done well there would always be pushback against it and that is understandable. I would recommend watching Mad Max: Fury Road since the relationship between Furiosa and Max is ideally what I would like to see if they were adapted. Open enough that romantic or platonic interpretations are valid.
Disability representation is very important to me and I promised myself that any commission I ask that includes Babs show that she is disabled and I’m very thankful that the artists I have worked with understand that.
Feel free to also repost any art I have commissioned of them to other social platforms. I commission for myself but also to share and I only ask that the artist get credited.

can you check the submission and ask about the boat i posted? i put my though and i agree with your statement. ask first, submission next, as i forgot i couldn't put a pic in the ask.
The asks with the tvtropes screencap, right? I posted a reply but I think tumblr mobile ate it because it’s just gone. If it's helpful I remember most of what you sent so here's most of what I'd replied:
1.  The YT comment from tvtropes sounds like it's meant like a joke (I mean, I hope so??) so I wouldn't worry too much about that. fwiw Araki's real explanation for The World's timestop power is that it's conceptually based on Dio being a vampire, and his quest for immortality.
2.  afaict Araki never said that thing about Dio caring about his son(s), I've looked for but never seen a source for it and you're right that when it shows up occassionally it's cited like it's a fact.
(fwiw, imo the EoH interactions between Dio and Giorno are pretty good in the sense that they're based off the characters' canon personalities).
Anyway, agree with the overall sentiments in your ask, thanks for sending it and hope this works as a reply.

AAAAA I'M SO GLAD YOU NOTICED AND LIKED THAT DETAIL!! :DDDD
Though looking back on it, I just kind'a threw it in there thinking it would be neat. But I didn't put too much thought into it or really tried to make it look.. idk cool..??
I guess what I'm saying is that this ask inspired me to go back and put some more thought into Seafoam's coat/hair and how it changes depending on how he's feeling. So thank you for the comment and for the inspiration! :DD
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now idk if any of the cookies from the game have any abilities like this. Where they have some kind of power that changes the properties of their clothing-- but even if they don't, I like this power and I'm keeping it! XD
It also matches Seafoam's personality! He is intended to be a man that wears his heart on his sleeve. And his coat/hat are intertwined with his emotions while he wears them. They're stormy and floaty when in action, and they're droopy and melty when he's down.. They also bubble up and glow when he's happy!
Now he does have some level of control over it. But he doesn't usually try to suppress it. In stark contrast to his friend Octo, Seafoam is not afraid to let his true self show ✨☁ 🌊✨
