I'm gonna vent (in dot point form) about all the podcasters of other teams criticising the Karlsson trade as if the Pens fans DOESN'T realise what a GAMBLE/RISK it is.
Our coach couldn't trust Casey DeSmith as backup goalie that we had to play our injured GOALIE JARRY. So no, DeSmith was NOT good for us.
We KNOW Jarry is our fragile omega princess who is VERY breakable. WHY DO YOU THINK WE HAVE 4/5 GOALIES?! I would not be surprised if we somehow end up playing ALL our goalies in the up coming season/post-season. Our luck is just that shit.
OUR DEFENCE IS NOT REALLY DEFENSIVE - Yes, we are AWARE OF THIS. Even with Karlsson we are gonna be OFFENSIVE DEFENSIVE. WE KNOW THIS. WE WILL DIE OR LIVE BY THE GRACE OF TRISTAN JARRY (and the other 3/4 goalies). Or by COMPLETELY destroying the other team's goalie and outscoring them. Unlikely but hilarious bcos you know the Pens are gonna fucking try this.
SULLY'S PHILOSOPHY SEEMS TO BE OFFENSIVE FORECHECKING ANYWAYS. Gods, we are gonna be sacrificing our goalies on our offensive forechecking play from EVERY PLAYER.
We are younger, you fuckers. So fuck you assholes. And our old men core still fucking played better than 90% of your teams' top player last season. Suck on it.
OUR BOTTOM 6 IS BETTER with the new acquisitions! Our top lines are also better with new bits! We have MORE goalies. We are soooooo much better than what we were in April of this year.
We were desperate to offload Granlund, DeSmith and Petry. If they bounce back next year for another team - GOOD FOR THEM. But they did NOT work for the Pens! I literally fell on my knees and prayed my thanks to the hockey gods - the Witch Kyle Dubas at accomplishing this.
NO. SIDNEY CROSBY WILL NEVER PLAY FOR ANOTHER NHL TEAM. Sid understands his legacy of being the captain & playing for ONE team throughout his long & storied career. He WANTS to retire as a Penguin.
We UNDERSTAND that once Sid & Geno retires that we are most likely facing a rebuild/drop off the cliff. But if they actually paid attention (which most of them haven't), we also got two to three young prospects in our system. And Dubas is literally REBUILDING our AHL team so that these prospects can mature in a winning environment and develop the best they can. What I'm saying is that the cliff drop might not be as steep as everyone thinks.
We understand the upcoming season won't be INSTANT success. Hell, it is probably gonna be a hot mess till like January. But by the gods it will be entertaining as we stumble around like feral kittens trying to figure out how to walk and kill things. And yes, we also know we most likely won't win the Cup next year. But we should be better. And who the fuck even knows what Sidney Crosby can will into existence.
We have one of the MOST attractive d-core. This is not relevant to this convo but should be HIGHLIGHTED at all times. If Karlsson grows out his hair we can have like 3 vampires on the team.
In conclusion, WE ARE NOW YOUNGER, MORE ATTRACTIVE, and fully realise it will be a fucking dumpster fire for like a third of the season. But it will be FUN! AND for the fire time in years we have REAL HOPE. And the knowledge that we are NOT going to waste the final years of Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, and Kris Letang.
ETA: WE KNOW THIS IS RECKLESS AND CAN BLOW UP IN OUR FACES. BUT FUCK IT. SIDNEY CROSBY DESERVES THIS. WE FUCKING DESERVES THIS.

next year's All Star game should be all of the league's goalies playing each other in one big goalie game. now THAT I would pay money to see.
they could split up the backups and starters and put them on different teams. you wanna see a divorce-caliber marriage fight? Have Swayman steal the puck from Ullmark and take it to the house. no goaltending the net allowed.

I mean, footballers have big round butts as well and occasionally one of them will be especially blessed to the point that some fans joke about it (e.g. Eden Hazard) but I have never heard an entire league constantly refer to the size of a player's ass the way NHL players do to Sidney Crosby. The guy is just constantly objectified. Like a peace of meat. Juicy, juicy meat.

Saw your rant about Dunnerlars.
Every time I watch the two of them on the ice, I sometimes am truly shocked almost speechless about just how well the two of them compliment each other, especially considering how different the two of them are.
And yet somehow, on the ice, they manage to become this style of play that manages to encapsulate the both of them.
Watching them play is always poetic, at least for me, since they way they play on the ice is both a beautiful and ugly thing.
Passes meant for the other, plays and decisions built solely on the basis of trust, because they believe that the other will be there. And the other always is. Smiles shared as they celebrate what they’ve managed to accomplish. A beautiful cohesive style of play built solely from the love the two of them share.
And then there’s the running of emotions, the snarling of teeth, and the way they give themselves to the game and to each other. Stupid fights and penalties on the basis of pride, loyalty, and anger. Dripping blood and aching bruises. Vile words screamed at officials and opposing players. On the ice, they’re never truly afraid to show the uglier parts of themselves, of the way they play, of the game they play.
They always manage to become this whole mess of emotions, bot good and bad, and it never fails to make me smile in joy upon seeing it.
Anyway, sorry if this is like too long or boring, but I just wanted to talk about them with someone! :]
Absolutely, thank you so much for this! I think what you described is a great window into hockey, too: it's a professional sport, and they're all playing voluntarily (like, they're not gladiators fighting to the death) and they're all relatively civil men. But sometimes tempers run over, and emotions become hot, and true passion shines through. It's beautiful to watch (even though I want to SMACK certain mouthy defensemen who get Bad Penalties at the Wrong Times).

v*gas is unbelievable good it's so unfair like how they gonna be in the league for 6 years, make playoffs pretty much every year and stanley cup twice meanwhile l*afs out here starving for one series win
I think V*gas just has pleeeeeeenty of money to throw around and had zero pressure to live up to. Like hockey is a team sport and a sport of bounces and luck in a way not a lot of sports are, you can buy a baseball team pretty well, and mostly same for football, but it tends to be a little harder with hockey because it relies so. Much. On the right chemistry and our salary cap in the NHL is also pretty damn tight to TRY for equity.
That being said, V*gas put together a solid squad early and Bruce Cassidy is a hell of a coach.
As for Toronto, I think they suffer from the same problem as Edmonton -- piss poor management and the wrong coaching and way too much mental pressure to be healthy for the whole squad. Idk how Connor, Leon, Nursey and Nuge cope in Edmonton. And I actually think it might be even more fuckin toxic for Matts, Marns, and Tavs over in Toronto. None of the US teams have the emotions of an entire city/country being flung at them. Not the same way. Idk I've always hated the L*afs so it's hard for me to care too much, but I can at least feel for the players and how much pressure is on their shoulders. Ya gotta be allowed to believe in yourself and your team and tune out the noise, and the great players on the L*afs by and large are lil babes.
Like *spit on their grave* but when Toews and K*me were first drafted in Chicago, sure people made a lot of noise about them saving hockey in the city but hockey in the city was D E A D at the start of their rookie year. R I fucking P. So there was way less actual game to game pressure on them to win. Hockey is never going to die in TO or EDM. It's a whole diff ball game for those boys.

Goalie Hug shirt is $40. Minnesota PWHL shirt is $25.
I want both. (I also want an Unwell shirt but every single time I go to check if they have any, they're sold out--which is the best thing ever. I love that they're sold out. they're an awesome band).
Minnesota is currently 0 in this game. Come on, Minnesota.
Bruins first playoff game is Saturday. I'm sure I will be dead asleep when it happens and highly doubt I'll have time to even listen to it Sunday. (is it bad that my guess for the Stanley Cup is Dallas? Like, love my Bruins, don't get me wrong, but I don't think they'll make it. I hope they can, but my guess is Dallas gets it this year.)
ooo yay Minnesota is on the board. Woohoo.
And, like an NHL game, my ass is going to miss the last period because I am dead tired and 4 am comes fast. Hopefully I'll be able to listen to the entirety of the game tomorrow while I'm doing stuff at work since I'm subbed to the PWHL youtube channel.
