Some Government/ History Jokes

Courtesy of my grandfather and Me.

Grandfather: You know I was around when they annexed Alaska and Hawaii.

Me: Oh...

Grandfather: Back then there were only 48 states, and that was great for the flag. It was 6 stars down by 8 stars across.

Me: uh huh...

Grandfather: Well then they annexed Alaska. So then we had 49 states. But that was okay too, because we had a flag that was 7 stars down by 7 stars across. But then we added Hawaii, and gained a 50th state. So then they had to decide what to do with all 50 the stars. So they just threw them all over the place and called it good.

Me: *Laughs through my nose*

Later...

Me: Welp. We did it. We wrote two amendment that we would add to the constitution if possible, using every single line.

Grandfather: We sure did. You’ll get a good grade I can assure you.

Me: I guess I’m just a little confused.

Grandfather: Why?

Me: How does My Gov/Econ teacher expect 17 and 18 year olds to complete 2 amendments to add to the constitution when our government can’t even figure out how to solve our national debt. Let alone save itself from a shut down.
