~Chapter One~

chapter one of twenty-eight

When you arrived at Dolle Harbor, you knew that the bus was not the way to the exam site.

Really, how stupid are these people?

You watched with pity as many people get on the bus.

You looked around, taking in the sights of what could be your competition. You wore a baggy sweatshirt and sweatpants, and always kept your hood up. You weren't stupid, you knew that as a woman attempting to become a Hunter, you'd already have the odds pinned up against you, and as sad as it was, you knew you needed to keep your gender a secret to stay under the radar and to just be another candidate for the exam, and not some girl just trying to run with "the big boys".

As you looked around, you noticed a young trio arguing about which way to go. One was a young boy who couldn't have been older than 13, who was wearing a green sweater with green shorts and matching green boots and wanting to go towards a big cedar tree, and a slightly older blonde boy wearing white undergarments and a blue shawl who decided to follow him, while the oldest of the three was wearing a blue suit with a cyan tie that wanted to take the bus.

You sighed. That's cute. I think that boy has a lot of potential. Ah well, better make my way to the exam site before nightfall.

You made your way there on your own.

As you walked into the first phase of the exam, a small green bean approached you and handed you a number. 406? Damn, I thought I would at least be in the first 100 to arrive here. As you waited for an examiner to make an appearance, the boy you saw in the harbour walked up to you.

"Hi! My name's Gon. What's yours?"

He seems so sweet! I guess there's no danger in having at least one friend.

"My name's (y/n)," and with that simple statement, Gon's eyes lit up like you just told him the best news in the world, and you couldn't help but smile at his innocence. You could tell that you were going to get along with him just fine.

"Do you want to come meet my friends, (y/n)?" Gon asked with excitement in his eyes.

"Uh... M-maybe later. I think I'm going to walk around and scope out the area," you responded nervously. Having one friend was nice, but you really didn't want too many people knowing that you were a female.

"Ok. See you later (y/n)!" Gon said excitedly as he ran back towards his friends. You chuckled and waved at him.

You started to walk around the place, and saw a commotion happening to your right, so you walked over to see what was happening.

You couldn't believe your eyes. You saw a man kneeling on the ground, screaming out in agony as his arms turned into flower petals that calmly drifted to the ground. You watched, only intrigued by what was happening in front of you.

"My how unusual," you heard a voice say. You wanted to look up, and see who caused this mans arms to disappear, but the sight was too interesting for you to peel your eyes off of. "Seems this poor man's arms have turned into flower petals," the voice said almost playfully. "Now you see them, now you don't." You finally looked up from the crumpled mess on the ground, and what you saw was far more interesting.

You don't really know what you were expecting to see, but a tall man who dressed himself like a magician was definitely not it. He had a mix of deep pink and a nice shade of purple hair, and he was wearing a white crop top with puffy shoulders on top of a pink undershirt. You mentally applauded him for his questionable, but refreshing style.

"You should be more careful," the mysterious stranger continued. "And do apologize if you bump into someone." he finished.

You knew you shouldn't have been so intrigued by him, but you couldn't help it. The danger he showed was enticing to you, and made you highly curious, but also highly cautious. You looked back up to his face and noticed he was staring straight at you with a smirk. You silently cursed yourself for staring, and walked towards a wall so you could rest. As you walked, you felt a strong presence behind you.

A/N: I'm currently on a HxH fixation because I've binged the entire series 😃 I wanted to try my hand at some headcannons because I have zero self control ✌🏻 back to the regularly scheduled programming Thursday!

Honestly YN, I'm not sure which job is scarier

Being a Hunter or dealing with everyone else who is also a Hunter 😐

Because like, it's a lot

Like I'm exhausted just watching the anime I can only imagine how you feel

Let's just say you passed the Hunter exam on your first try 💅🏼

It's a lucrative business and you absolutely love your job

You meet all sorts of interesting people and get to do some amazing things

One of those interesting people just happens to be Ging Freecss 🙃

At first, he seems like a nice guy and I'm sure he is

But then he ruins it 😐

"YN when my son comes looking for you, I want you to make his life miserable. Teach him but make him miserable"- Ging

NE WAYS you continue on your life's path until you "accidently" bump into a less than friendly white haired boy

"Watch out!"- he yells

"Excuse me?"- You 😃 🔪

"Killua apologize! We are so sorry!"- a black haired boy says looking at you

Boy does he look familiar 🙃

"Quite the temper you got on you there kid. No worries, it would take more than a child to knock me over"- you

"WHAT DID YOU SAY TO ME??"- Killua, giving Bakugo level anger issues 💥

"I mean we are children technically. I'm Gon by the way"- Gon says extending his hand

Finally the prophecy has come full circle 🔵

"Ahh yes, Ging's son. Nice to meet you, I'm YN"- you say

Gon 👉🏻😐😳🤩 you know my dad!

"I do! In fact, you're dad told me that when I meet you, I'm suppose to make your life miserable" you add

Gon 👉🏻😃 whet-

"But since your dad is kind of a jerk, how about this? I'll show you a few things and send you on your way"- you say

Killua 👉🏻😐🙄 whatever

Dear YN it's me, the person writing this headcannon set, just making sure you are ok because like do you know what you are getting yourself into??

Well I guess we all have to learn the hard way sometimes 🤷

You begin your journey with Killua and Gon

Surprisingly, everything is going smoothly

You see, at first, everything WAS fine

You meet Kurapika and Leorio

"Wow Gon, that's awesome that YN is training you!"- Leorio says

"Yeah and that you're getting closer to meeting your dad finally"- Kurapika adds

You were training the boys in their specialized Nen abilities

Helping them to strengthen them as well as teaching them more about the world of hunting

You were walking down the streets if YorkNew City when you sensed a strange presence 🤨

"Dont be alarmed but someone's watching us. Just walk normally and don't look suspicious"- you say as you walk with Gon and Killua down the street, turning into a side alley

"Alright show yourself"- you say, gearing up for a battle

"Oh no it looks like I've been spotted"- a creepy clown looking man says emerging from the shadows

You 👉🏻😳🤨

"Who are you? Sorry buddy I don't think the circus is in town right now"- you

Oh good one YN 😜

The creepy clown man just laughs

"That's Hisoka YN, he's a hunter too"- Gon says

"Oh I've heard of you before"- you say, squinting your eyes at Hisoka

"All good things I hope" he says smiling at you

"Honestly no but I judge people on my own interactions not the opinions of others"- you add

"How noble of you YN"- Hisoka says 🤡 🔪

Hisoka totally knows who you are and let's just say he's weary

See I forgot to mention that you are not only a skilled hunter but in incredible Nen user as well

A specialist 💅🏼

Your ability is known around the Hunter world and you are one tough cookie

Your training for Gon and Killua is much like how you learned to train

"So... we just run..."- Killua questions

"Run yes but also while producing aura. Now go!"- You shout

"But YN, aren't we going to run out of energy quickly"- Gon asks

"Sure you will"- you shrug and set your things down

Killua 👉🏻🤨 so what's the point?

"The point is you do what I say"- you add

Please Killua is ready to fight you YN 😭

However you aren't as tough on the boys as Ging had wanted

You never were one to do as others asked YN 🙄

So you not only taught the boys but you nurtured them as well

Kindness goes a long way, even in the world of Hunters 🥰

Unfortunately for you, kindness doesn't extend to most of the underground of YorkNew City

Namely a certain group 👀

That's right because it's just Gon and Killua's luck that they would walk right into the Troupe's hands

"Well I guess I should probably go and rescue them?"- You think as you head in the direction of the Troupe's hideout

You didn't PLAN for this to happen but you can't say you're disappointed

Thankfully the whole gangs here when you enter the Troupe's hideout

"Alright give me my students back"- you say as everyone watches you waltz in like you own the place

"How- how did you find this place?"- Phinks asks

"Oh its really not that hard, I put trackers on Gon and Killua so I don't lose them. I'm always losing things"- you say shrugging

Chrollo puts his hand up before you interject

"Don't bother, I'm only here to get these two"- you say walking up to them, studying the nen thread binding them

"Well this is unfortunate. I'm going to need someone to remove this nen thread"- you say

"You can try-" Machi says before she watches her Nen thread fall to the floor

Gone and Killua just stand there 🧍‍♂️ 👁👄👁

"Impressive YN"- Chrollo finally says

"A Nen ability like that is superior"- Illumi adds emerging out from the shadows

"Chrollo Luciler and Illumi Zoldyck, how nice to see you again"- you say standing up and peering at the two men

"YN it's always a pleasure"- Chrollo adds as Illumi nodds

"Well I'd love to stay and catch up but we need to get these two kiddos to bed"- you say pushing Killua and Gon to the door

"It's like 2pm YN!"- Killua growls

"Do you want to get killed? No? Then shut it!"- You whisper yell at the boys

"I'd love to fight you YN"- Hisoka says emerging from behind a large crate

Well would you look at the time ⌚️

"I'd love too BUT unfortunately I have plans so let's do a rain check"- you say, practically hauling Killua and Gon under your arms and out the door

I AM SPEED 💨

"Why don't we go after them boss?"- Franklin questions

"Now is not the time. Not with YN there"- Chrollo says smiling as you quickly leave the warehouse

"Seriously can you two please not"- you say as you finally make it back to your hotel

"YN you were awesome! Can you teach me more about your Nen??"- Gon says 🤩

Please the golden retriever energy ✋🏻

Killua just huffs 😤

You smile, knowing these boys are both going to be amazing Hunters 🥰

My most favorite thing about Hunter x Hunter, except the fighting that always with strategy, is the complexity of the characters. I really really like complex character, where it’s not just “oh this character is complex because they have sad, abusive past! That’s why they do this and that and those and these!” No, the complexity of the characters in Hunter x Hunter come from their own nature, their own characterization that they have even from they were born. The environment around them helped them to develop themselves, but it’s not the main source of their complexity.

In short: I like almost every Hunter x Hunter characters as a character, not as a person. I rate the characters here based on how much they piqued my interest than others. For example, Leorio.

As a person, I like Leorio. He’s really kind, considerate, thoughtful, even Senritsu said he has the most calming heart beat in the York New city, basically one of the only sane people in HxH universe, that’s why I put him on favori(te). But I put him on ‘just okay’ too, because he didn’t do much to the story. He disappeared completely in Greed Island arc and Chimera Ant arc, although he had a very important role in the Election arc, he disappeared again after making appearance in a few chapters in Dark Continent Expedition arc. So overall, I loved Leorio, but his appearance in the story made me like him less than I did when I first read hxh.

About Gon. The most interesting thing about Gon for me is his morality, and the thing that made me interested in him is when he came to Pitou to fight. What we know is Gon is kind-hearted boy by default, but the event in CA arc, his rage to Pitou because of what happened to Kite made he couldn’t care about the innocent little girl who’s in line with death, made me think twice about his morality. Doesn’t mean I think he’s not kind-hearted That’s my reason why I put him on badass and favorite. No particular reason why I chose cute and my baby tho, I just like his character.

SO KILLUA. I waited to talk about this but I’ll try to make this as short as possible. I don’t think I need to explain why I chose cute badass my baby and favorite. I chose hot because I just want to bold as many as I can lmao. So about overrated. Yes! He is overrated! I would think someone who said Killua isn’t overrated is someone who hasn’t gone to hxh fandom. He is overrated in a way that fandom think he has no flaws, or he has flaws but “that’s because he’s the product of environment”. I won’t say this is completely untrue, but this is not completely true either. As I said in the above, environment is not the main source of his characterization. He’s overrated in a way that people pity him, “omg smol boy” “luv luv him so much my baby boi”. He’s overrated in a “his family abused him so of course the bad things he’s done is justified” way. He. Is. Overrated. But I still listed him as my favorite? LMAO of course. He’s still one of the most developed, humane characters I’ve ever seen.

(Turns out it’s long but I’ve expected this)

Kurapika. Almost similar to Leorio, Kurapika hasn’t done much to the story. He’s almost gone in Greed Island arc and completely gone in Chimera Ant arc. Only appear 1-2 panels in Election arc. But different to Leorio, because Kurapika is the main character in York New arc, although he’s only appear for some pages in Greed Island arc, his doings in YN arc has consequences that make story for later arcs. In YN arc, he made Chrollo can’t use his nen, thus make Genei Ryodan + Hisoka to search nen remover in GI arc, later because they found the nen remover, removed Kurapika’s Judgement Chain so that Chrollo vs Hisoka battle a.k.a one of the fandom’s most anticipated battle can be seen. And once again, he’s the main character in Succesion arc. That’s why I put him fully in favorite.

OH MY GOD, THIS IS SO LONG. I REALLY want to answer my reasons for Bisky, Palm, Ging, and Hisoka too (esp Hisoka since I know he’s your favorite 😔)but if I make this even longer this would be boring. I’ll try to answer the other four later.Thank you for the ask!!!!

(True stories about Tiny Evans:

Once, when I was about four years old, mom let me play in the bathroom. She later came in to find the entire bathroom flooded…I hadn’t bothered to turn the water off and just kept playing calmly in the middle of the mess XD she says that when she asked me what happened, I was just like “Mommy, the rain came down from the sky…”

And once mom bought me a tiny Beauty and the Beast doll, with super tiny accessories (I was probably around five years old). I was playing with the doll on the bed. Then I decided to lie down, holding one of the doll’s tiny shoes in my hand….I dropped the shoe and it went straight into my nose 0.0 When we went to the hospital they couldn’t get it out (they gave me a nosebleed trying) and then they said I should have surgery.

Then we went to a different hospital. The doctor took a look, told me to lie down, and then got it out in a few seconds (…)

And I was also super attached to my toys when I was little. I’d refuse to let mom wash my favorite teddy bear because I thought the washing machine would hurt him, and I hated it when people shoved my toys away into a toy box because NO the dollies can’t BREATHE if you do that)

Yeah, I think that most kids have a bratty side to them XD some kids are worse, though. One of my little sister’s friends once kicked another boy because he kept playing with my sister instead of her…like, literally kicked him in the face. The poor kid was just coming down the slide, she was waiting at the bottom and kicked him 0.0

I wouldn’t give you time to cry. If I must suffer, Queen Luna must help me…maybe you could distract them with snacks?

ok, yeah, I did hear that Fairy Tail’s plot sucks XD (and of course there’s the fanservice ugh.) I was thinking about checking it out just because so many people seem to watch/read it (and hate it) but maybe not lol

Queen. QUEEN. I know I recommended HxH to you but…well. Please google the Legendary HxH Hiatuses before you make a choice you might regret (if you’re brave, you can still dive into the fandom anyway and suffer with me).

BUT ALSO. Levi has an HxH twin. His name is Feitan, and HE’S SHORTER THAN LEVI

btw, I just saw a comic with Hisoka meeting Saitama. *Schwing intensifies*)

Can you imagine what would happen if Evans and Kimblee got in a fight, though? (assuming that Kimblee does ‘like’ Evans enough not to kill her.) Because I just realized that if Kimblee got blood on the carpet I’d definitely be mad- I’m an almost Levi Level clean freak in some ways. If the carpet was white not even a Philosopher’s Stone could save him. And if he brought the dust, dirt and ashes from his explosions into the house with him I’d probably feed him to Pride.

(idk what this is but I just made myself kinda angry thinking about Kimblee dripping blood on a white carpet lol)

That would be adorable until Pokemon Pride decided he was hungry.

Yes. The clean freak in me rejoices every time I look at his new hair. (seriously though it was REALLY greasy in Avengers and The Dark World.)

Idk how I never thought Roma might be the Clown Boss omg. She’s horrible but she’s also amazing.

Nah, I worry for Urie’s health (physical and emotional) but he’s not going to die. I don’t think his character arc is finished yet, and besides, there’s so much he hasn’t done yet, so many promises he has yet to keep (like, oh, I don’t know, the whole thing with Shirazu’s body). Also have you heard the theories about how Shirazu’s probably going to be on the next volume cover?

If Mutsuki kills Yomo I’m really going to start hating TG. (though tbh it feels like he might die here ;-;)

Touka…I don’t like her and I really don’t like all this Touken stuff but I don’t want her to die, because I think that if she did, Kaneki would just go right back into his angsty “I want to die in style and sacrifice myself” mode…and that would be bad.

(Speaking of Touka though:

I read a theory on tumblr that Juuzou might be the one to kill her if she does end up dying. Like, a while back Ishida wrote a poem for Juuzou where he's trying to decide whether to kill a cat or a dog- when he chooses, there’s a line about a ‘rotten womb’, suggesting that the animal he killed was pregnant. The poem ends with Juuzou thinking that it really didn’t matter in the end, because he himself was going to die anyway.

Mutsuki called Touka a cat several times back in the chapter where they fought, so Touka=Cat, the pregnant animal Juuzou killed, and Kaneki=Dog? So Juuzou might have chosen to kill Touka and spare Kaneki, who was once his friend? And Kaneki kills Juuzou to avenge his wife?

I don’t think this is going to be canon and I don’t WANT it to be canon (it would be too much for my feels), but it’s interesting)

And I'm still waiting for the moment Shuu finally decides to confront Kaneki about that night on the L.E building

Yep, I’m going to try to play Waltz’s route soon! I’ll let you know when I do :D (But I refuse to play the Bad Ending because I now know what happens in it and wow. Just wow.)

Yeah, it’s pretty easy to tell that Lady Karma and Prince Karma are the same person. For me it’s the eyes…

Wonder what Llama’s like? (Probably Burr-levels of salty and bitter because of his dad’s fondness for weird nicknames)

Maybe I’ll play the bad ending just to torture myself with whatever happens to Varg lol

I seriously wish we could date Delora, Jurien, Parfait and Emelaigne, though. We could trade Rod’s route for one of them? (again, not that I don’t like Rod but I feel like a Delora or Jurien route would probably be WAY more interesting than his)

I can’t even use ‘Evans' in Otome games, that would be really embarrassing…I mean, even with Reader x Character fics, I can’t bring myself to use my own name so I always read the Reader’s name as literally 'YN’ in my head XD

TY Queen Luna. I might be blushing a bit right now. (Please don’t write any more Fritz HCs they’re too amazingly fluffy I’ll die.)

Queen Luna/Karma would be the best though. Karma probably thinks you’re the most beautiful, amazing person in the history of the entire universe.

-He often asks you for book recs, will always give you his honest opinion of them once he’s done reading

-likes reading with you better than that, though. Just cuddling together while he reads over your shoulder or something (idk I feel like Karma would like books)

-does your makeup for you. Not if you don’t want him to, but if you ever have to go to a party or some big event…he’ll insist (and do a great job of it too).

-of course he goes shopping with you and helps you pick out clothes. Then he insists on buying all the outfits that look good on you (though of course, in his opinion, that’s everything you try on)

-he’ll try to help you remember things and keep track of your stuff better, but even if you still forget he usually remembers. Will find whatever it is you lost and hand it to you with a playful smile, teasing you a little bit (he honestly thinks it’s cute)

-he’s immediately interested when he hears you used to learn archery and will ask you to teach him if you can still do it. In exchange he’ll teach you how to use a sword if you want him to (if you say yes he won’t go easy on you, but will always be impressed with your efforts and will be sure to compliment you and tell you how well you’re doing)

-if you two ever have to go to some social event, he’ll quickly notice if you’re feeling overwhelmed and will lead you away into a quiet corner, where you can just have some calm, private(ish) time together, talking about your day and watching the people around you.

-I think Karma likes sweets too (there was that thing with the Chamaeleon cupcake and I think I read another line about him eating cake in the game? not sure about it though) so he’d probably buy a bunch to try with you and would think your obsession with them is adorable

-he teases and flirts with you a bit, and doesn’t mind if you tease him back. However, if you ever flirt back at him, it doesn’t matter if it’s bad or cheesy- he WILL end up blushing. He’ll try to play it cool but the blush is just too obvious

(hope these are ok ^^;;)

Well, the friends weren’t exactly impressed. But hey if I was able to bear them for a week, they can bear 2 hours of good music XD They did find Guns and Ships interesting though, because of the speed of rapping XD

YEP, Bertl’s death (still crying). So the (I think) comic went like this: Armin has eaten Bert, and Reiner was captured and he looks at Armin, obviously realizing what happened to Bert and breaks down crying. Then, in one final act of defiance, Bert’s conscious manages to suppress Armin’s for a second and tells Reiner that he has nothing to apologize for. I cry.

Just. I honestly have no idea what to think about TG anymore... The things that happened lately have been pretty hard to stomach and so many things have been left unresolved. And all the death flags and the fact that Yomo might lose to Mutsuki, despite being canonically stronger than them. Tbh, I think I might just drop it (again XD)

Technically, Fritz’s bad end isn’t too different from the others, I just like Varg too much XD

That’s one of the reasons why I’ve adopted the name Luna XD No embarrassment. But I once watched an anime where a character had the same name as me. Not only that, she also looked a LOT like me and we shared a few personality points. It actually made me pretty happy. And then, later, I found out that a part of the fandom shipped her with my, at the time, favorite character. I could never read fanfiction of the two without getting embarrassed XD A significant portion of the fandom hates her, though, even though she didn’t do anything wrong other than, surprise, ‘interfering’ (???) with a popular yaoi ship. (Since her x the character was implied canon). Long story short: Luna gets embarrassed watching anime.
