Look who molted!! Scorpo's baby!! I don't think I've posted about it but I finally named her.. her name is Skorupi 🦂 (after a scorpion pokemon lol)
She's still doing well. Growing slowly. Still unsure if she was a partho baby or if scorpo was wild caught and retained sperm for almost 2 years (which seems too long imo?)
Invertober is back! The (mandatory) drawing challenge where you draw an invertebrate every day. It's for everyone and *mandatory.* Last year they had no ants on the list! I was very upset... this year there is one ant... an improvement, still so much more room to grow!
Let's shoot for 10 ants next year.
OK here is what you need to draw each day for the month:
He looks so much better! The granulation on his "cheeks" helps identify him as a Heterometrus silenus, h. laoticus will have no granulation and h. spinifer and longimanus will have more granulation. H. silenus also has a unique sexual dimorphism where the movable finger has a large bump on the cutting edge in males. The chela (hand) of the claw is also rather smooth.
@hedonistic-merneith submitted: Here's my juvenile/sub-adult seemanni in the meantime, Still have my scorpion too, both have been unusually active lately and I don't trust it.
My adult seemanni thinks we live in a society and is staying in her burrow so no pictures. Her carapace has dirt on it and the desire to brush her off is really strong.
My juvie has almost hairless feet and has grey hair so she's probably in premolt too. At this point I expect 3 molts before february. Hopefully I can get bins before then so humidity can be maintained easier.
I, too, think we live in a society so that's a mood and I respect her. Perhaps they've been active because they are partying for the coming New Year. Please....tell them they're beautiful and perfect
ALRIGHT DUDES ITS BEEN FUCKING MONTHS BUT WE'RE BACK TO HIT YOU WITH SOME FUCKIN UHHHH
So continuing from the last baby mode update [Found Here!] where we had started to see some scorplets walking alongside their mother...
A lot has happened!
Departure, migration, collection!! Little pale dudes. How many do we have total?
=>
Ah, yes. 24
(actually its 21 now, we lost 3 fairly early in. It's sad, but its something you unfortunately have to expect in rearing the little guys- and I mean, not to brag but.... all things considered, our survival rate is still pretty damn impressive)
It's crazy to see how theyve changed over time. They went from walking gel capsules with goofy feet to a slappy armor-plated biker gang.
Anyway!
We finally put 'em in with each other in one big enclosure a day or two ago, and theyre doing great so far.
As is the way of Asian forest scorpions, they're big fans of clustering together in warm spots to make a big ol' babystack.
Heres a few blacklight shots of them in their new tank!
(Yes, I know scorpions find blacklight annoying. I had it on for maybe 20 seconds to locate the babies & check up on them, + snap a few pictures.)
Heres some little dudes exploring and checking out the best seat in the house.
Under that bit of wood? Yeah, theres just a pile of babies hanging out. Nobody's hurt or sick, nobody's being hostile to anyone else, its just... little dudes running around, digging wherever, sleeping, climbing, and eating whatever they can catch (which atm is, like... a stupid amount of flightless fruit flies)
Um dos escorpiões bebê (Heterometrus spinifer) está tentando mudar (ecdise), ele está sendo movimentado por seus irmãos como ajuda, mas precisa continuar ou ele morrerá ... a boa notícia é que ele conseguiu!!! Armadura nova e maior!!! . 🦂🦂 #Repost @bugz_uk🦂🦂 • • • • • • In amongst the hub bub of this communal tank of heterometrus spinifer baby scorpions, this little fella is trying to moult, he is being bustled about by his siblings but has to carry on or he will die... the good news is that he successfully moulted and is now much bigger !!! #scorpion #ecdysis #moult #moulting #wow #great #nature #insects #invertebrates #heterometrus #spinifer #bugs #life #change #mothernature #growth #growingpains #growing #newlife #animal #animals #biologosnarede #bio #biology #biologo #biologia https://www.instagram.com/p/B6CF8l6JMfn/?igshid=5biyx2qr1lbe
