Sky:

Usually dresses like just some guy. Yeah he's some dude, please don't look at him too closely, he's normal. He promises

Jokes aside, he isn't all that fancy with his clothes. He dresses pretty boringly all things considered

He likes to dress in pastel/mid tone cool colors, generally avoiding warm colors, with lighter accents

He really likes jogging suits/track suits tho which tends to make him stand out slightly more bc jogging suits tend to have louder patterns on the than Sky usually wears

When he gets fancy he tends to dress in all white, which he looks weirdly good in. White jeans are a fashion choice he would make

There's also his royal clothes that he doesn't like all that much? Much of his childhood was a four way glaring match between himself, Diaspro, and his parents (while Brandon sighs in the background), so he tends to associate thoese clothes with tense uncomfortable situations....which might be the main reason he's primarily dresses very causally

He doesn't give that much of a shit about fashion, he does like his two tone jeans (not split down the middle like Riven and definitely not as much as Riven, but he likes to have a little fun with his pants) and his sectioned shirt

Ends up buying clothes every time he goes to the mall, there's never a moment when he really needs to go shopping bc he's kinda just constantly doing it—and he also gets gifts from Diaspo and his parents (at first) of new clothes (he does the same for Diaspro, the gifts are really petty and back handed on both of their ends but the only way you could tell is if you knew them really well)

Very slightly more interesting than usual casual wear, a jacket here and there, he's guy shaped

Brandon:

Jester. I thought we were friends. I trusted you. Why the fuck are you making me explain what ever is going on with Brandon's fashion sense this is a fucking nightmare /j

Let's start with his prep era bc Brandon is apprently a idol who has eras jfjsne

It's like acidemia and prep fashion mixed together

Brandon would never wear a turtleneck, he's not that far gone, but he's trying his best to give rich boy

Button up shirts tucked into slightly high waisted corduroy pants with brown belts, some very unfortunate sweater vests (like truly tragic), and ascots

Imagine the shapes and clothing styles of acidemia, with the colors of the preppy style

I'm thinking he'd wear suit jackets once he realized how fucking stupid he looked in sweater vests

Brandon dresses like he wants to be punched face for being pretentious, Sky takes great offence at the implication that this is how royalty dresses

Yeah, he's just doing this bc he's overcompensating for his lack of royal training in pretending to be Sky. If he dresses like the most obnoxious rich kid ever then no one can question him right?

In my hc he'd dress a little more toned down than the original (the plaid pants, I'm going to attack him) just bc he doesn't want to push it quite that far but still

After his prep era his formal fashion goes fucking hard tho, he's figured out he looks REALLY good in trench coats and suit jackets/vests and he is not afraid to use this information for evil (flirting)

Brandon will suddenly be wearing a suit vest and pants out of fucking no where and destroy everyone on impact

As for his usual fashion, I'd decribe it as what my mom used to try and dress me in middle school—

Brandon is the hot one, that's just how everyone sees him form the characters to the fans, and fucking yet— Look at his fringe and his outfits??

Anyways I'd decribe Brandon's fashion in one word

Loud

Like jfc this man loves his bright colors and patterns, even his swim wear can't escape bright red and having a pattern on the front. He's just like that

If your wondering what loud means in this context, visually agressive, it's eye catching, visual noise, their clothes that demand attention. It also tends to mean obnoxious

If the outfit doesn't hurt my eyes, would Brandon wear it? Probably not—

Colorful men's summer wear (because Brandon is the opposite of a chill baby) that tend to be matching (there is not jacket so it's not a jogging suit but the top and bottoms usually go together, he likes two piece outfits what can I say)

And of course, crop tops. He's not crop tops all day every day (like Riven) but local man REALLY likes showing off his body ok? He's nature's gift to eyes and who is he to deny the everyday person walking down the street a chance to see him? He's not a monster

Brandon tends to be more out there compared to Riven when it comes to crop tops because Brandon has never even made eye contact with shame before in his entire life

Btw he finds out about crop top vests and goes fucking insane for a full week because he can combine his fashion styles into one monstrosity, Sky is going to physically fight him

Usually just ends up shopping the same time that Sky does bc he's there

Timmy:

Can I just call him a fashion disaster and move on?

Please look at his s1 outfit and realize that his over shirt's sleeves are nomrally drawn like it's tucked in somewhere and oh my god it looks so bad I want to commit a violence

Please look at his mess of a camping outfit. A crop top that meets exactly with baggy high waisted sweat shorts. Help him

No but I don't think Timmy even has a fashion sense out side of "I like the color green and orange" and "showing any amount of skin is terrifying"

He's just a stereo typically nerd

Musa (and Riven) got their hands on him once and turned him into an e-boy and Timmy nearly died

Timmy tends to cover up his skin and layer outfits. Not because he's easily cold but as a form of subconscious armor

He is the only one who benefited from s4 putting everyone into their prep era, getting a very dope looking glow up that I would of loved to see at the end of his character arc of being less of a coward that he didn't have

Really, why does Timmy get to escape with his shirt not tucked in. The designer of the boy's s4 outfits was a Timmy stan, smh

Of course that's immediately followed by the tragedy that is his s4 date outfit and I just *points and laughs*

Timmy is the only one who has consistent good in character outfits in every season (not including s8, bc I refuse to look at s8) good for him

Let the man vibe in his baggy white shirts and the more colorful shirt he layered on top of it. Also, shorts. Timmy really likes his shorts

Riven:

Pop punk. I refuse to back down on this. Riven's weird little wrist cuffs are too alternative for most other styles. Um pop punk is (the style of my favorite band) like if a rainbow threw up on nomral punk. You get all the usual things like many belts and wrist cuffs, but you also get a fuck ton of colors.

As for shopping headcanons.... Riven's shopping is a mix of thrifting, upcycling the things he's thrifted, hunting down good deals, and saving up money for something he really wants bc Riven is one of the guys that really care about fashion. He doesn't tend to throw away clothes when he grows out of them but upcycle them, often making them more good looking (to him) in the process by mixing and matching colors

Riven really likes his colors ok?

His fashion in s1 is at his most boring half because he doesn't really wanna waste his money on clothes when he has other things to worry about (like never returning to his dad's house), half because he's low key embarrassed about how much he cares about fashion

After s1 however Saladin puts him on missions, which is amazing for him, which means he feels wayyyy less bad about spending money on clothes he likes

Still spends a lot of time just sewing his one pairs of jeans bc all the normal ones are too boring for him

I know I've been talking about his pants a lot but I need to inform you that Riven is fucking allergic to covering up his chest. He will either cut the shirt into a crop top of find a WAY to make sure his abs/pecs are showing. He's obnoxious like that

He's pretty responsible with his money but clothes are his weakness. Yes he needs that pair of bright pink jeans and he needs them right the fuck now. Like his room is pretty sparse but his closet is full...mostly with very colorful jeans

Helia:

Transmasculine that didn't change his style after transitioning

Doesn't care that much about fashion but is dedicated to his aesthetic

His flower child and Flora's flower child are very different. Flora is more high femme fitted clothing floral print, while Helia is more like flowy/puff shirts, earth tones, no prints, ya know???

Flora is more cottage core and Helia is more boho(??). Yes there is a difference, no I cannot explain it

Helia also seems like a bit of a chill baby (aka he gets cold easily) to me, so he usually wears long sleeve and no crop tops here

You'd think this would mean he'd wear more sweaters and jackets but honestly no, he doesn't like stuffing his giant sleeves onto those. He normally just wears a warmer shirt. If he can't do that, then he'll wear a flowy ass jacket

Helia also seems like the type of person to walk around in the house with a blanket over his shoulders, chill baby, I'm saying it

Tends to dress more feminine? He doesn't give a fuck. Helia has gender

Helia is also fucking allergic to formal wear, he will wear a fitted shirt on his fucking death bed, fuck you. He thinks their uncomfortable and he feels like they make him look stupid and he hates them some how more than Riven (who also hates suits) which is an achievement. They might also make him feel dysphoric bc they look obviously wrong to him (and only to him)?? Idk it's the vibes

As for shopping, Helia only shops when he knows he needs new clothes and he really doesn't give that much of a fuck about fashion. He usually buys things in one trip until he grows out of them/they get destroyed then he goes out again. It is a horrible process to him

Plus, bonus Nabu:

Nabu tends to dress very traditionally until he's going out when he dresses as fashion forward as the best of them

He usually just gets clothes from his parents (traditional) and shops online (trendy)

He tries to avoid loud colors and patterns in his more modern outfits bc he usually wears those and he also looks good in dark colors thank you

He's either very traditional or chill and casual......

my spicy hot unpopular scooby takes

velma originally being a lesbian in the live action movie concept isn’t actually gay rights because it was supposed to contribute more to the Edgy tone/is equated to shaggy smoking weed so it was meant to be a joke and thus wraps around to actually being lesbophobic (note: this only includes the pitch and NOT linda cardellini, who is great, playing velma as gay. i appreciated her saying that)

marcie deserves to come back more than red herring does

sdmi is one of my fav versions of scooby but it’s nowhere near the best and it has my least favorite version of daphne. but people who act like it’s the WORST SCOOBY are dumbasses because the overarching plot is absolutely incredible and people who act like it’s the BEST SCOOBY are dumbasses because they’re dismissing 50 years of wonderful scooby material just bc sdmi has consequences

the only thing holding be cool scooby doo back from being the most well-loved scooby tv series is the fact that the character design looks like family guy. it literally has everything else going for it

scoobynatural and kiss rock and roll mystery would have been PERFECT specials if it hadn’t been for the subplots about grown-ass men (one of them edging towards elderly and who is also A Real Person) preying on a teenage girl (perhaps not an Unpopular take but its still spicy hot)

fred designs don’t NEED ascots to be good freds. the ascot is just a bonus

scrappy doo isn’t that bad. he’s just a boy. any new character introduced at that point in the series where the entire gang except shaggy and scooby was gone for a long time. it just happened to be scrappy

shelma needs to be taken out back and shot dead and as a fraphne stan im sick and tired of seeing it be paired w that ship like the audacity....

the shaggy and scooby doo get a clue gang designs are extremely cute and actually some of (if not The) best designs the gang has ever had

scooby becoming more and more literate over the years doesn’t really bug me that much and i think the amount of coherency he has should depend on what’s funniest in that moment. him being able to talk in full sentences is funny in a lot of these newer things

people in the fandom who still call marcie “hot dog water” need to have their asses kicked

people circulating that edit of daphne and velma wearing each other’s PJs also need to have their asses kicked. ive already explained why but if you don’t know it was edited by a creep and tbh being like “lol gay” to this pic even if you don’t know its origin is still bordering on sexualizing teenagers bc of the idea of them swapping PJs and also i hate that version of daphne’s PJs bc it’s ALREADY sexualizing her and i AAAAAAAAAAAA

speaking of, a lot of people who ship vaphne (many of them who aren’t even into scooby that much lol) need to be nicer to fred because he loves his friends so much and would be so happy for them

chivalry is dead — ball outfits

as of chapter 20, everyone is dressed Fancy™

outfits and ID explanations below!

Patton — Cat

i gotta start with our kitty-pat!!!!! he’s so cute !!!! his dress is a lot like cinderella’s, actually, now that i think about it. His dress corset has the princess-cut lines down the center that have some silver thread detailing, and the center part is a sparkly grey while the outside is a pale grey-blue velvet. The corset’s waist juts out, and at the center middle of the waist there’s a large bow made of glittery black tulle. The top most layer of his dress is glittery silver tulle, while the next layer (and the one that extends out behind him in a train) is glittery black tulle. i feel like it should bunch in the back, but i didn’t draw the back, but it also probably bunches in the back just given how fabric Moves™. the inner most layer of his dress is a velvet gradient from the same pale grey-blue on his corset to an actual dark grey, similar in shade to the silver tulle! his shoulder poofs are also scrunched up silver tulle, and that’s all the sleeve he’s got. he does have forearm-length gloves, though, which are grey with pink toe beans that mimic a cat’s!

his mask is also pretty standard for a masquerade ball — it’s a grey cat mask, with a silver gem for the nose and with pink ears and whiskers!

Logan — Octopus

a smart animal for our smart boi :^) also like, my favorite outfit of the bunch, i want it so badly. his blazer doesn’t clasp, but it’s fitted pretty well and clips on the inside to his vest. It’s dark blue, with a black adjustable waist strap that goes around his back, and with four tails that seem more like tentacles. The shoulders of his blazer are also adorned with light blue “bubble” rhinestones. His vest is just a shimmery royal blue, and his undershirt is white, but his tie is iridescent blue and black. It’s tied up in an eldritch knot tho ;0 His pants are pretty tame, just some dark blue slacks. hes got a little piece of pink coral tucked into his lapel, too!

logan’s mask is. like. like i’d die for it. like it’s so cool. there are four tendrils poking out and swirling around it on either side, protruding from the mask itself, and while the coloring of the mask is fairly basic (it’s just dark blue) the “underside” of the tentacles are decorated in silver gems that mimic an octopus’ suckers. this was the first one i did and. like. im still yelling. i want that mask.

Deceit — Peacock

thought i’d mix it up a little!!!! deceit’s suddenly flashy and, in the bard’s words, “the hottest chick in the coop.” he doesn’t have a blazer, but he does have a half-cape thingie, which has blue and purple and green rhinestones on the shoulder pad while shimmers an iridescent purple and green when he moves. his vest is a matte teal, and his undershirt is mint green, and he has lil arm bands that keep his sleeves pulled up that are dark blue. his ascot is also iridescent, and shimmers blue and purple. His pants are pretty tame, though (as i’ve seemed to do with most everyone’s pants lmao) they’re black with a glittery green stripe down the side. his shoes are. supposed to be black dress shoes. but it seems i forgot to draw them. and his gloves are dark green! i love this outfit but its also a mess of colors asdfgjkl

his mask covers the scaled side of his face and has blue rhinestones decorated similarly to the cape. There are also a lot of feathers. Like a lot of peacock feathers. all coming out of the left side. his scales are well hidden.

The Thief — Snake

speaking of mixing it up a little, the thief does love being a red herring. his outfit is less snake themed and more deceit themed t b h. idk what to call that blazer, but it’s black, and short in the front with two long coat tails in the back, and is buttoned low and twice with gold circles and chains that mimic deceit’s coat clasp. His blazer also has sequins arranged in diamonds, traveling up his sleeves’ forearms. his vest is black, too, but is sheer while the blazer itself is matte. his dress shirt is a pastel yellow, and the bowtie is black, calling back to deceit’s SvS outfit. his slacks are also pretty plain, just black, and he’s wearing black gloves.

his mask is literally a call back to deceit — covers the let side of his face, and has sequins arranged in diamonds all across it, mimicking deceit’s scales. If you look close enough, though, you can see his face scar jutting out at the very edge

remember when virgil was tryna convince the thief that he was the virgil-esque roman? :^)

The Bard — Harlequin

i love love love the bard’s outfit. it’s actually a ball-dance dress, meant for people who are actually doing ballroom dancing, with some red sheer tulle as the skirt. His bodice isn’t a corset, though it is kinda stiff and sinched at the waist by a thick black belt with a heart on it. The belt matches his choker, which incidentally is connected to his dress :^) the bodice also has a red and black checkered pattern throughout, with a large white pearl at every check intersection. There are pieces of tulle from his dress connected to his wrists by thick forearm bands, also with the red and black checkered pattern — good for showy dancing!

his mask is also based on a harlequin/jester theme, with five protrusions at the top in alternating red-black-red-black-red, and with bells at the ends. the center of his mask is white and fades into the red and black checkered pattern at the sides.

The Artist — Jester

shout out to the artist for his character development, because the boy’s learned to be okay laughing at himself and at things. He’s going as a jester, so his outfit is semi-formal and semi-flashy (good for distracting ;) ). The left half of his suit is a solid black, while the right half has a checkered pattern of red and black. His suit’s sleeve cuffs spiral out a little, and are gold. His slacks are solid red on the right while adorned with the red and black checkered pattern on the left.

his mask is similar to the bard’s — the top has five jester-hat-like protrusions, alternating black-red-black-red-black, with bells on the ends. The mask itself, however, is white with little marks of all four card suits.

The Playwright — Queen of Hearts

The Playwright’s dress harkens back to the animated Alice in Wonderland’s queen of hearts dress. The skirt is nearly identical, with an outer most layer that’s half red and half black, and with chevrons on the inside that alternate black and gold. At the tip of his corset’s waist is a large red rhinestone in the shape of a heart, and across his bodice is a large red heart that stretches from the neckline to the waist. His sleeves? Basically remus’ sleeves. Poofy shoulder parts that pinch in near his elbow, then are flush against his skin to the wrist, and then floof out at the wrist. The sleeves are black with glittery red trims around the wrist floofs and in the creases of the shoulder poofs.

his mask is actually all rose gold wire-work, in intricate spirals. there’s a crown in the middle, on the top, also made of wire.

Dragon and Damsel — the Prince and flames

ignore the big doodle on the left — that was for another drawing!

Dragon’s outfit is fairly simple, he’s just wearing Roman’s usual white princely outfit with the gold trims, red sash, black boots, etc. The main difference is that his crest has been replaced with Dragon’s part of the crest, which is just the castle’s outer towers and wall.

Damsel on the other hand is wearing a ball gown. His corset has a tall behind-head-neck-thing-whose-name-ive-forgotten, taller than his head with orange and red detailing shaped like flames. The corset has stiff gold shoulder pads that actually prevent him from lifting his arms high, and the body itself is detailed with sequins and rhinestones that mimic the red sash. There’s a little bit of rolled up red tulle at his waist, and then the gown. The first two layers are kind of torn up and in tatters (almost as though they’d been physically torn and then burned) and are colored orange, then red, and the inner most visible layer is a dark ashy grey. His eye, usually covered in a bandage, is patched over with a red rose.

neither of them have masks, but the damsel has a red veil (not in the picture). they want to be seen and identified.

sure thing fam! I’ve got a million and one great things to say about shadowhunters!

the cast

let’s start with the cast…..oh man the cast, have you ever seen or heard of a lovelier group of people? a sweet and perfect redheaded angel? a cow-loving farmer sunflower man? a sexy british rapscallion? a latina goddess who is the sweetest angel in the world? a hilarious but also very profound and extremely talent soft brooklyn hipster? the most talented dancer/human to ever grace the world who is also a complete wondeful dork? the sweetest and funniest and most wonderful person who ever did wear an ascot? they’re perfect

nothing makes me happier than their friendships with each other and just their general sweetness :))))

i mean every dynamic of theirs is adorable and hilarious? kat and alberto’s friendship, domberto’s antics, the parabatri feels, dom’s lil crush on matthew, the esther/shelby/shumdario friendship! em being an older sister to kat!! how lovely are they all!!

and of course, of course, how earnest they are towards the show because they know how important it is to all of us, and it’s heartwarming to see all the effort that they put into the show, as well as the amount of respect and compassion they have while interacting with fans is the most wonderful thing

and of course, the fact that the people behind the show always listen to and respond to fan feedback, positive or negative! they really care about us, and it’s lovely to see :)

the show

personally, i think the writing of the show has gotten amazing! season 1 was fantastic, but all of the sort of cringey dialogue and ‘wow, nobody would actually say those words’ is gone and everything is much more textured and real, and it’s really really really living up to the potential of its premise!

it’s got a gritty NYC setting and its about badass angelic soldiers fighting a demon apocalypse, all while battling these insidious problems inside their own society as well, with no real moral high ground to be achieved, but really just a scramble for survival and trying to do the right thing, and the tone of the new season is JUST PERFECT for that

i think the show has such amazing and dimensionalized relationships like i haven’t seen in a lot of much more highbrow fiction - the romantic stuff too, but i love how important and well-written platonic and family relationships are in the show!

you look at a family like the lightwoods, and they’re so real - not just the love that they have for each other, but also the issues that they face, and the struggles between parents and children and siblings. amazing. well-written AS FUCK

the bonds between alec and izzy and jace!! are so well-written, so well-acted!! the relationships between luke and clary/simon/maia!! astonishingly good

there’s so much texture and richness to all of them it’s crazy

but not JUST those super close familial relationships - every single interaction has me floored with how great it is, including ‘rare’ ones like jace and magnus, or clary and alec, or clary and magnus, or magnus and izzy

every character has such great acting chemistry with one another, and so every relationship just comes across as rich and real in a way that a lot of lesser shows can’t accomplish

let’s talk about acting! how amazingly has every cast member improved over the course of the show? even if they didn’t start off the first season as amazing, can you believe how great everyone is? how beautifully kat captured the grief of losing jocelyn in 2x05? how amazingly dom is portraying jace’s inner struggles and suffering about valentine and his identity? how much dimension and depth harry can give us in just one glance? how matt perfectly portrays the inner conflicts of a man who was never allowed to show his true feelings on his face? how beautifully alberto shows the struggle of not belonging anywhere that you used to call home? with what grace emeraude brings us izzy’s trials and suffering? how perfectly isaiah depicted not only the grief over losing everything - his world, his parabatai, the woman he loves, but also the struggles of having to get up from the pain and be there for his children? amazing. hats off to all and emmys all around

every character also has so much - so much - dimension?

like, not a single one of the characters is the type of YA-fantasy caricature than you see so much in this genre - each of them is fully fleshed out with flaws and strengths, and each character interacts and copes with the horrible events of their lives in completely different ways, and it’s just lovely to see that kind of commitment to character even on a fantasy/action-driven show, and that not all of it has to be directly addressed and shoved in your face, but can be communicated through subtleties of acting and writing

and each of them has their own critical/crucial role to play in the story? none of them are incidental or disposable and i love it!

the special effects in season two are SO! damn!! good!! holy hell did you see the warlock fight this episode? beautiful! astonishing!

i love the mythology of the show! it’s so crazy interesting to explore this world, because it’s not the type of world you see in a typical YA-low-fantasy type of setting - the shadowhunters’ society is such a new and refreshing mythology, with all of their customs and their ceremonies and their laws and myths and angels and runes - i love seeing them unveil more and more of it, because it’s honestly so original and interesting

like did you see the rune ceremony in this ep? it was almost haunting b/c i just love thinking about this ancient order of angelic warriors and of course all of the complications of the societal hierarchies in relation to the other types of magical races

and don’t get me started on the other types of mythologies, especially warlocks! i love the idea of all these esoteric spells and potions and crap that shadowhunters don’t even know about and can’t even imagine the power of - it’s so interesting and i love how they’re fleshing it all out bit by bit

and i love the merging of the regular urban NYC setting with the shadow word, in locales like the jade wolf, the hotel dumort, and even the insitute - how interesting and seamless it seems sometimes? it just gives the world so much texture

and of course, the romance is great! like i said, every actor has fantastic chemistry with each other - even if they’re not endgames like simon/maia or climon, they’re so well-acted and well portrayed

malec is fantastic - i’ve almost never seen a relationship on a show portrayed with such gravitas and realness! i love how they didn’t let either character get subsumed by the relationship, but they’re also not ignoring the existence of it to give the character their own storylines independent of it

and of course it’s so darn cute :) and harry and matthew put so much time and effort into it and im so thankful for them
