Actor and performer Yu Tangchun needs money to pay for his medical bills, and thus works himself to the ground by going on small gigs to bars and parties, while at the same time taking on small acting roles in various small-scale film productions. His health deteriorates the longer he goes on without taking any breaks, but he fears that the company that he signed his contract with will let him go if they realise that he would cost them more money with his poor health. After all, the entertainment company that he works for, Pear Garden Entertainment, is a small, and fairly unknown company, so they would not keep an actor like Yu Tangchun, who is mostly known for his good looks and voice.

One morning he gets a call from his agent. The company has successfully landed him a supporting role in a high-budget production. The up-coming and highly anticipated series is starring a few very popular A-list celebrities, so this might be Yu Tangchun and Pear Garden’s breakthrough moment. Yu Tangchun accepts the job and is temporarily transferred over to East Wind Entertainment, a multimillion entertainment industry conglomerate owned by the Zhan Group.

On his first day on-set, Yu Tangchun helps Yuan Zining get to the filming location due to a mishap with the communication between the transportation team and the company staff. They meet up with the rest of the crew together, garnering a bit of publicity once a few photos are purposely leaked to the public by production. New fans quickly discover Yu Tangchun because of his striking looks and it doesn’t take long before they start shipping him with Yuan Zining. This eventually blows up and their interactions land on the top trending list. Yuan Zining, who plays the main female lead, is already shipped with her co-star by her large fanbase, so a storm is stirred up online. Fans of both the two A-list stars start trying to bring Yu Tangchun down.

It starts with accusations of Yu Tangchun clinging onto Yuan Zining for the fame. Production fan the flames by filming more behind-the-scenes of the two together, because any publicity is good publicity for the up-coming drama. It then escalates to Yu Tangchun being talentless and unworthy of his role because he only landed it due to his face and because he sought favours with the production team. Yu Tangchun continues working hard, ignoring the talk online like his agent advised him. His deteriorating health start showing on his body and antis begin circulating rumours of substance abuse. This is where production looses their control over the flow of publicity. Then finally a few months in, everything backfires; the top rumour becomes that Yu Tangchun slept with the chairman of the Zhan Group, Zhan Tianqing.

The rumour was spread by an anti who claimed to know some of the higher-ups of East Wind. Since this was a serious act of defamation against both Yu Tangchun and East Wind, the matter was not to be taken lightly.

The scandal drew the attention of the old chairman who quickly got annoyed by the commotion it was stirring up. Zhan Tianqing ordered his nephew Zhan Junbai, the current director of East Wind, to solve everything as fast as possible as he actually had a few skeletons in the closet regarding similar matters.

i want to start watching killer and healer, but i've heard the official streams have cut audio and i feel like that would drive me insane... is there a site you'd recommend watching from, or do i need to clean out space for a download (and if so, do you have a place to get decent subtitles..?) sorry for the probably inconvenient ask, you're just the person i immediately thought of when killer and healer came up, and also thank you for the cut scenes masterpost, i'll definitely be utilizing that 🙏

unfortunately, I don't really know. I just gave in to the stupid audio cuts and watched it on YouTube on the stupid mgtv channel. :(

I want to say that there are less audio cuts in later episodes, so if you're willing to endure in the beginning, it might get easier but I'm not sure... @killerandhealerqueen might know since she recently did a rewatch!

for as to where to watch it--and watch it with good subtitles--sadly i think a lot of other ~watch~ sites just pull their videos/subtitles from mgtv, so I don't think the subtitles get any better unless it's from an actual person who understands Chinese. :(

the weird thing about getting into killer and healer as a longtime mdzs fan is that jiang yuelou and jiang yanli share the same abbreviation (jyl) so i’ll see a post like “the amount of times jyl gets arrested and still manages to be a police chief is insane” 

and for like. two seconds. my brain tries to remember just when precious shijie jiang yanli was ever a police officer and who the hell dared to arrest her also when did police exist in ancient china before i remember ohh jiang yuelou

Killer and Healer |  Hen Jun Bu Si Jiang Lou Yue | 恨君不似江楼月 | Episode 1

In which Cheng-xiaojie is faster on her feet and calmer under pressure than I could EVER hope to be, especially when facing down a horde of police yelling at her in another language while the fugitive they’re seeking is hiding in her bathtub, possibly drowning by inches.

Guys, seriously. I’m two episodes into this series, I just met Cheng-xiaojie a little over one episode ago, I DON’T EVEN KNOW HER PERSONAL NAME YET, and yet I WOULD DIE FOR HER.

I... almost think I care more about her than the two males leads at this point.  I was HER story.  I HOPE WE GET TO KEEP HER FOR A WHILE.  *_*

Anyway, I watched this scene so many times and loved it more and more each time, so I finally caved in and giffed it.  There is so much going on here that I love, from Cheng-xiaojie’s coolness under pressure, to that little half smirk she gets when she uses something often thought of as a feminine weakness to gain the upper hand over a roomful of boorish police officers, to the way they can’t run from that bucket of bandages quickly enough.  It’s all brilliant and I was NOT expecting a scene like that in a Chinese Republic-era drama.  ...hell, I’m not sure I would have expected it in an American modern drama, either.  XD

Anyway.  Cheng-xiaojie.  We stan a legend.  ^________^

So many parallels between #TheDevilJudge and that other magnificent 2021 Asian“Bromance”#KillerAndHealer.

Down to the ending scene with both couples staring heart-eyes at each other from a distance, just because 💁🏽‍♂️

Captivating plot, savage twists, well-drawn female villains, criminal masterminds, men who would die for the man they love. Intimate touches, emotional hugs, caresses - lots. Both couples look after a daughter together and care for a fat white cat

Both leads are lawmen on a radical course to deliver justice in lawless times, irreversibly changing the lives of all who love them. Their love stories begin in conflict because of differing moral visions about justice and the value of human life

Both leading men’s psyches are profoundly shaped by shared themes: trauma as child orphans; daddy issues; cruel injustice; found family. These all inform their sense of responsibility to defend and protect the weak-by any means necessary

All the BL literacies - codes that empower BL fans to “queer” normative romance tropes, were present, providing cascades of “moe”. The way the male leads’ character arcs explicitly target their evolving masculinity especially in the way they treat women as equals, is to be applauded.

Female villains are the other significant characters to get the BL treatment in The Devil Judge and Killer And Healer. Compellingly drawn, with a supreme sense of their own righteous power, they exercise bold, autonomous choices, including knowing when to withdraw from the game

Is there anything left to say about the 🔥🔥 chemistry between the touchy-feely leads whose only weakness is one man? Killer And Healer and The Devil Judge master what is often neglected in more explicit contemporary BLs, that much of the power of liveaction BL is in leaving room for imagination

Killer And Healer has the edge because unrequited female love is well handled - unambiguously and elegantly allowing the woman to continue her own journey, dignity and agency intact. Killer And Healer mlm couples are devoted to the men they love with no narrative deviation

Both are original screenplays BL fans loved so much they demanded the continuation of these amazing characters in their lives. The Devil Judge got a Manhwa.

Killer And Healer got a Canon Novel, an Audio Drama and an Official Post-Finale 26-min video with the explicit scenes that were too gay for censors
