My remaining checklist is as follows:
1. Get the remaining pieces for Tobduk
2. Get the remaining pieces for Krakua
3. Think about how only Johmak specifically is entirely absent
4. Cry
5. Take solace in the fact that I already own Jerbraz

Helryx training Krakua
Tumblr media
I'm sure training with Helryx had to be very, VERY hard (Headcanon that poor Krakua almost had to fight for his life every time he trained with her)

So because I'm still working on refreshing my memory on things in the Bionicle fandom, looking through the reference books is quite the treasure trove of little nuggets.
In Bionicle World, a book written to seem like Helryx is writing it based on information collected by OoMN agents, I happened to notice something in the Metru Nui chapter.
Tumblr media
Now, according to the wiki, it's not unheard of for the characters in Bionicle to use family terms such as brother and sister. But for a species that can't reproduce, I find it interesting that this term pops up--from Helryx nonetheless!--as though they know what parents or mothers or fathers are.
This makes me wonder if--since she's the first Toa that was made--she might have learned about these terms from the Great Beings? After all, even when there's fighting going on all around them while the planet is getting ready to shatter, I'd find it hard to imagine that she hadn't noticed any Agori or Glatorian children running around or hiding (protective Toa instincts activating and the Great Beings having to stop her from rushing off to save them? 😂). Perhaps even one of the Great Beings we've heard nothing about had a kid of their own and had to do what they could to keep them safe from the fight by bringing them along!
I certainly have memories of when I'd go to work with my parents, so it's not hard to imagine this happening. But if Helryx understands this concept and the family terms are in their programming...would everyone else in the Matoran Universe have any comparison to understand what paternal means, or would they attribute it similarly to how Turaga (specifically the Mata Nui Turaga since we know them best) would treat and protect their villagers?
Would Toa develop a similar role/pattern of behavior as their Turaga, and it's like the Matoran have two sets of parental figures? Or would it be a clash of "Toa, can I do this?" "Ask the Turaga." "Turaga, can I-" "No." ?
And would Makuta refer to themselves as the mother/father of the krataa they create from their bodies, or would they refer to themselves as their creator? Considering that Teridax literally calls his krataa/rahkshi his "sons", it feels like a term he'd just throw around even though he literally commanded a horde of them to die to Sentrakh in Time Trap. >.>
I dunno, it's late, and my brain is getting tired 😂 Would love to hear a second opinion or two, though!

Made to fill a "random Tarot card + character" prompt. Inspired by Pamela Smith illustrations. Idk much about tarot so idk how well the characters fill in, lol.

One of the funniest things about Helryx to me is that she's the first Toa, and the only Toa made without the Toa Code.
Think about that for a second, because the Great Beings didn't realize the Toa were sapient until they'd made a ton of them. Which means Helryx did something so heinous and ruthless while they THOUGHT SHE WAS A SIMPLE ROBOT that the Great Beings went, "holy shit, can't argue with results, but damn these things need some rules."
Fast-forward fifty years and they walk in on twenty Toa hanging around a water cooler trading gossip, laughing about it, the only change to their code being a copy of the Geneva Conventions, and have the sudden and terrible realization that Warcrimes Bot knew EXACTLY what she was doing.

Helryx, The First Toa. Here's my interpretation of what Toa Helryx might have looked like at the beginning of her life, before becoming the worn & battle-hardened leader of the Order of Mata Nui we know today. I imagine that in her early days Helryx would have made use of a Toa Suva, allowing her to swap between a number of masks including her Mask of Psychometry, this classic blue Pakari, and a few others she might have found useful. Her mace, while of a similar design, is also much newer, and still has a silver-y sheen to it. This moc is built around the same general body design as my Orde, and a Toa of Sonics, but was actually the first of the three to be built with it, which explains why it's basically a souped-up version of canon Helryx's body. #lego #legomoc #legomocs #bionicle #bioniclemoc #bioniclemocs #toa #toaofwater #helryx #toahelryx #oomn #orderofmatanui https://www.instagram.com/p/Cp_kjkarmR_/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Hot take but: Helryx is one of the coolest, most interesting and most complex  characters in the series actually and I’m tired of the way a good portion of the fandom (especially on tumblr) accuse her being a badly written character who’s framed way more charitably in the narrative than she deserves just because the narrative explictly never punishes her for her actions and thus the narrative obviously 100% supports her “ends justifies the means” mindset and doesn’t see anything wrong with them at all.
Like, Helryx’s whole deal is that while she ultimately is a “good guy” who does what she does for the greater good of the Matoran universe, she’s deeply flawed person who doesn’t do flawless decisions all the time and in fact does fuck a lot up because of her “ends justifies means” attitude. Helryx is never framed as a pargon of 100% moral righteousness who shouldn’t be scrutinized or criticized: she’s framed as someone who does morally questionable things to the greater good. Furthermore, she does things that are put into question in the narrative itself: For example, I don’t think the narrative wants us to think that are her act of wanting to shut down the GSR just to get rid of Teridax is the right action in that situation and that she was  perfectly justified in it.
I was originally saving these thoughts to a super lenghty meta post (and I still am going to write said post), but I just really needed this out of my chest so I posted it now.

Old fanart based on this post
Tumblr media
Headcanon that when he was still being trained by The Order of Mata Nui, Krakua did not fully believe he was the one supposed to become a Toa, insecurity reinforced by the fact that he heard that maybe Mazeka would have been a better option since he had been the one saving his life and showing bravery and heroism when fighting Vultraz.
However, one day after a very rough training session with Helryx, Mazeka walks up to a battered and saddened Krakua and tells him that he believes he has what it takes to be a Toa, giving Krakua back the confidence he so much needed at that moment.
Idk, I just think it's wholesome and would have like to see them bonding more.

Question
Does Mata Nui know about the toa code?
Because I'm 90% sure that was never programmed in and Helryx just made it up as she went along.
