Sometimes the fandom racism makes me not want to be a writer because I feel like they’re just gonna dismiss and be hateful to characters who look like me that I’ve put a lot of love into. I know this shouldn’t deter me from writing because I know there are others who would appreciate these stories being told but phew, it can be so disheartening here

No I 100000% agree, it is so so exhausting and draining to participate in fandom as a poc. It truly can get to you and I know it’s parroted that we should celebrate the good things and those who are touched by our works but no one really touches on how exhausting it is.

Going into a franchise looking for nonwhite representation you’ve so sorely been needing only to know they’re going to be hated… it’s miserable. Finding a character who looks like you and loving them wholeheartedly only to be met with racism and unfair hate is just a horrible overall experience- there’s a reason why fandom is so overwhelmingly white.

It really is so disheartening and things really need to change. I’m sorry for how horrible it is but just know I’ve been there and you’re not alone. 🫂🫂
