Fantasy sights: Heinrich Kley
Heinrich Kley was a German illustrator and cartoonist of the turn of the century (19th-20th). While he started out his career with very conventional pieces, he is most famous today for his more extravagant, caricatural, absurd pieces denoting a love for dark humor, grotesqueness and strange situations. Heinrich Kley is notably known as "the man who inspired Disney", because Walt Disney had a private collection of Heinrich Kley drawings, that he used as inspiration for his movies (such as his "Fantasia").
As you can see, Greco-Roman themes such as centaurs or Bacchus and satyrs are quite repeated throughout his work, alongside his love of anthropomorphic animals (or at least animals acting like humans) and his enjoyment of devilish scenes (demons, witches...)
