“why is it you dislike me so?”

with miguel o’hara x black!fem!reader

reader is a spider-man variant

“you summoned?” you quip at miguel’s back since he had a thing for never turning to face someone while speaking. “are you going to ignore me?” you raised your voice slightly.

you can hear miguel groan as he drops whatever was in his hands and turns to you. “you’re a liability.” he says to you.

“yeah, you tell me everyday.” you roll your eyes and miguel starts to inch closer to you. “is that all?”

“you don’t take anything serious. it is our job to take care of the multiverse!” he raises his voice.

“o’hara, i am not some kid you can yell at so lower your tone while talking to me.” you glare at him as you push off the wall you were leaning on.

miguel’s glare is just as deathly as yours as the two of inch closer, “what is your problem?” you push his shoulder and because miguel is so much more stronger than you, he hardly budged. “ever since i got here, you’ve been a pain in my ass.”

right now you’re hating the height difference between you and him because you’re sure it’s minimising the impact of your words, especially since you have to look up at him to speak. “you just gonna stare at me with your red eyes?”

his eyes narrow even further and he snarls, his fangs now on display. “answer me! why is it you dislike me so much!?” you yell in his face and his fangs retract almost instantaneously.

“what? you’re shocked that someone finally stood up to your brooding self?” you’re the one whose shocked actually, he backed down.

“i’m sorry.” you think you hear.

“what?” you almost stutter at what you heard.

“dios mío, serás la muerte para mi.” miguel tuts at you and turns away abashedly before looking at you again, “i said i’m sorry.”

if you weren’t shocked before you definitely are now. miguel turns to walk away from you but you reach out and wrap your fingers around his wrist. “stop, you don’t get to apologise and then walk away. explain what your issue is with me and then i’ll decide if i want to accept your apology or not.”

miguel stared blankly at your fingers wrapped around his wrist and you let go quickly causing him to close his eyes.

“there was no issue between us initially, i created that issue so that you would stay away from me. it never worked, you would always come around no matter how many times i tried to stay away from you. what’s worse is that it made me want you more, like you more. the fact that you tried and tried with me, even when peter and jessica gave up, you tried.”

your feet are stuck to the ground, you want to move but you can’t, unsurprisingly miguel has you hooked on his words, he’s always been a leader after all.

miguel closes the distance between the two of you, this time in a much less menacing way, he he’s i states slightly before placing a hand on your cheek. “i’m not asking you to forgive me. i know i treated you like shit and this is not an excuse for anything but i could not stand to see you get hurt because of me, everything i touch i ruin. i could not ruin you too.”

“miguel—,” you try and step in.

“cariño me preocupo por ti.”

“you know i don’t speak spanish.” you tell him.

“i know.”

“miguel i need time, this is fresh— i thought you hated me a minute ago and you now you’re telling me that you did it to protect me?” you gently put your hand in his and move it from your face. “i need to think.”

“you don’t need to think, yes, i want you but know it’s for the best when i say i cannot have you.” he squeezes your hand but his tone of voice reverts back to the cold and hard man that stood before you.

“i don’t deserve you.” he tells you before letting go of your hand and turning his back to you. you see him sigh before he moves back to his desk doing whatever he needs to do.

“you’re not going to give me a choice? it’s my choice too right? don’t i get to say if i want you or not?” you yell at miguel’s back.

“no.” he tells you straight with no space to retort.

you tut quietly and nod your head before spinning on your heels and getting far away from miguel as you can.

“you alright miguel?” lyla, miguel’s virtual assistant appears quietly.

“i’m fine.” he tells her.
