thinking again about the touga wrapping saionji’s hand flashback framed as this moment of romantic tenderness but also I find it very difficult to read touga so charitably, especially when he then thanks saionji in a way that implies that he likes being able to hurt him??? which isn’t to say that I think touga utterly lacks all genuine feeling, but he obviously conceives of love through a logic of power and domination (due to his own formative abuse), and thus enjoys the ability to not only hurt saionji but also then tenderly patch up the wounds he caused as a way of making saionji vulnerable and thus dependent on him.
to help or care for another can be a genuine, tender moment of affection, but based on what we know of touga and the framework through which he has learned to view the world, even saionji’s cherished shining memory is permeated with this logic of power and control. touga appreciates saionji because saionji doesn’t seem to mind being made vulnerable to soothe touga’s highly fragile ego.
and what makes that scene so fascinating is the way it’s directly contrasted with touga actively manipulating saionji into hurting him in the present. touga admits that the wound is in fact minimal, but he makes a great show of being in tremendous pain, exaggerating the force with which saionji struck him. even when touga is ostensibly making himself vulnerable, a reversal of their formative kendo injury moment (sparring practice versus a “real” duel), he is still the one in control of saionji, playing up his pain to exacerbate saionji’s guilt, without revealing any real pain, certainly no pain true enough to render him actually vulnerable.
touga fosters a dependency complex with saionji and nanami just as akio does with anthy and utena by positioning himself as the ultimate victim even as he hurts and manipulates others to hold power over them. when nanami spends all day trying to catch a stray kitten to give to her brother who she knows loves cats, she is admonished for getting her dress dirty, at which point touga swoops in an comforts her, so that all nanami can remember is the comfort he provided her instead of the sacrifices she made for his love. when touga hurts saionji during kendo practice, he then tenderly wraps his hand so that all saionji can later recall is the intimacy of the act instead of who hurt him in the first place. when wild animals stampede across the school, tsuwabuki swoops in to recuse her until all she can remember is the boy who saved her from peril.
except, not really. tsuwabuki exists to emphasize the problematics of this logic, to signal to the viewer the exact mechanisms of manipulation touga is employing, and how creepy it seems even to nanami herself when these tactics are not employed with care and subtlety. even touga is nowhere near as subtle as akio, who fosters an environment of stifling conformity and then presents himself as a subversive rebel who is both powerful enough to excite but grounded enough to be a comforting presence.
and that is the entire function of the prince, is it not? to save princesses from the violence of a system they themselves have an active role in maintaining. to foster a dependency complex wherein they cannot envision a world beyond your imposed limits, and then scoff and dismiss and deride them when they struggle to escape. to blame the victim for being victimized by a victim who was, once, victimized in turn. to sit back to back on a stationary bicycle — cycling in place as the sun goes down.

MitsuCho Week 2021
Day 1: Crossover - Boruto / Revolutionary Girl Utena
Tumblr media
ChoCho rushed into Sarada’s house as soon as the door was open. In her hand was a box with a picture of two elegantly dressed girls, surrounded by a stylised rose design in gold leaf. “Look at this complete series disc set I found in the attic! It says it’s twenty-five years old! I guess my mom got it when she was a kid.“
“Oh? Let me see,” Sarada said, adjusting her glasses. “Revolutionary Girl Utena… I didn’t know your mom was into tv shows for girls.”
“Mom said she couldn’t remember having ever seen it, but it looks like it could be interesting. Want to watch? I’m curious to find out what they thought was entertaining back then.”
“Sure. We can turn it off if it’s boring,” Sarada replied with a hint of a shrug. Once she put the first disc in the player, they both sat down to watch it.
The two friends were both quickly engrossed in it. Sarada remarked that she liked that titular protagonist, a virtuous girl who wore boy’s clothing and aspired to be a prince. ChoCho, on the other hand, was relishing all the hot guys on screen.
They had only made it to the fourth episode when a big ruckus distracted them. Boruto barged in without so much as knocking. In one hand, he held a large, dusty scroll. His other hand was dragging along a confused-looking Mitsuki. “Sarada! Sarada! Look what me and Mitsuki found! It’s some kind of summoning scroll, I think. Let’s open it up and find out what it does!” he cried.
Jumping to her feet, ChoCho snarled at him. “Hey, I found something cooler than a moldy, old scroll! Sarada and I are trying to watch a vintage magical girl/ high school drama series, so buzz off! And knock before you enter, next time!”
Letting go of Mitsuki, Boruto waved off the criticism. “C’mon, that looks stupid! Let’s see if we can summon a ninja beast, or maybe a monster I can fight!” He began trying to tear the seal open.
Now Mitsuki was the one to put his hand on Boruto, grasping his shoulder. “That might not be a good idea, Boruto. You could end up putting us all in danger.”
“Nonsense! I can handle any danger!” Those words were barely out of his mouth when the seal came loose. The scroll unravelled, revealing a string of calligraphy and archaic symbols which began to glow and arch up right off the paper. They merged into a singular beam of light that reached forward, like an arm, into the television screen. It pulled out a spiralling orb of different colours, before vanishing in a puff of smoke.
Once the air cleared, four young people were crumpled on the floor, as if they had fallen from the sky. ChoCho recognised them, but was too stunned to get any words past her lips.
A cute boy with sky blue hair scurried over to one of the girls. “Miss Anthy, are you okay? You didn’t get hurt in that fall, did you?” He picked up her glasses, which had fallen to the floor, and handed them to her.
“Who are you kids? More of Anthy’s crazy pets?” One of the girls started yelling. Her blonde tresses were loose, but for a crown braid that went across the front, like a hairband. The style unfortunately left bare a vein bulging in her temple. “Do you keep humans as pets, too, Anthy Himemiya?” She pointed her finger at the girl the boy was so concerned about.
The aforementioned Anthy had put her glasses back on, yet she had not gotten to her feet. “I’ve honestly never seen them before, Miss Nanami.” She had a complexion that ChoCho thought looked like that of her mother, yet the similarities stopped there. This girl was putting up with treatment Karui would never tolerate.
The last of the summoned tv characters stepped over and helped Anthy to her feet. “Lay off, Nanami! Anthy didn’t cause that strange portal that sucked us in and dropped us here” It was Utena, the stylish tomboy, to the rescue, as usual. She was certainly inspiring. It was a pity, ChoCho thought, that Anthy didn’t emulate her more.
“I’m sure Miss Anthy would never do something like this. It must have been a physical anomaly in time and space that dragged us here, like a wormhole. Not that I know that much about theoretical physics.” The boy scratched the nape of his neck and blushed.
“And here I thought you were genius in everything, Miki,” Utena said, a sly smile playing on her face. This just seemed to make the boy blush worse.
Mitsuki was the first to come to his senses and verbally acknowledge these strange visitors. “What’s going on here? Who are all of you?” he asked.
Sarada groaned. “Isn’t it obvious? Boruto’s scroll summoned the characters from the television into our world. ChoCho and I were watching an episode with them studying when you two showed up.”
In spite of the fact that Mitsuki had warned him earlier, Boruto appeared to be genuinely shocked at the consequences of his actions. “Hey, this is the last thing I thought would happen when I opened that scroll! I just wanted to find something that would impress everyone,” he insisted.
“Excuse me, I’m not a tv character! I’m a real person. Maybe you guys are the tv characters,” Nanami said, turning her attention to them. Her venomous glare could make Shikadai’s mom seem docile.
ChoCho shook her head. She remembered how to talk, yet she remained too flustered to think straight. “What? No, we’re ninjas! Well, I did almost get a role on a drama series, but”- This tangent was interrupted by Sarada elbowing her to be quiet.
Though her tone calmed somewhat, Nanami was still glaring at them. “I promised big Brother that I’d be back in time for dinner! You weirdos better not make me break a promise to my big brother! He’s the most important person in the world to me and I won’t let him down!”
Mitsuki put his finger to his lips and stared up at the ceiling. “Big Brother… I wonder if Log would like me to call him big Brother?”
Sarada gaped at him. “Is this the right time to ponder something like that, Mitsuki? We kind of have a situation on our hands!”
“I’m sure your brother will understand if you’re stuck here for a little while. I mean, he’ll probably enjoy having peace and quiet, without you there to yell at him,” Boruto said to Nanami, before exploding in laughter. No one else was foolish enough to laugh with him.
“Why, you little!” Nanami raised her hand and attempted to slap his face, but Boruto was able to dodge it with a quick weave.
“Hey, go easy on me! I have a little sister, myself. You don’t want to upset her, do you?” Boruto went into a defensive stance as he pleaded with her.
Nanami recoiled her arm, winding up to try for another slap. “I feel sorry for any girl who has someone like you as a brother!“
Utena then jumped in between them. “Nanami, calm down. You’re being disrespectful. I’m sure we can figure out a way back if we put our heads together and not fight.”
Nanami sneered at Utena for a second. “Don’t tell me what to do! I don’t tell you not to wear a boy’s uniform!” Her focus quickly turned to Boruto again.
Miki clicked his stopwatch, then sighed. “You know, this whole situation seems like something that would happen on tv.”
“Perhaps in the outside world- I mean in our world, these young ninja are on a tv series,” Anthy said. Her head tilted to the side very slightly, and she smiled.
With a knitted brow, Utena turned to her. “What do you mean, Anthy?”
“Oh, it’s nothing, Miss Utena,” she replied. Something about her smile reminded ChoCho of Mitsuki’s. It was that same little smile with closed eyes that confused her; an expression that suggested a kept secret.
“You’d better send us back now, or you’ll pay!” Nanami shouted as she clenched both her fists. “Now! Do you hear me? Now, now, now!”
“But I don’t know how!” Boruto was starting to lose his nerve and cowered behind Mitsuki.
“Are you all right?” Mitsuki turned around, only instead of addressing Boruto, he grabbed ChoCho by the shoulders and shook her. “What’s wrong, ChoCho?” he asked, looking right at her. What was going on? Why was he worried about her when it was Boruto who was being threatened?
“AAAHHH!!!” She was jolted back to semi-consciousness.
“ChoCho, wake up.” Mitsuki continued to shake her, but it felt different now. He looked different, as well. He was blurry, as if they were underwater. “Are you all right? Speak to me, please.”
The fuzziness from her vision began to clear as her eyes adjusted to the light. Chocho was lying down in an unfamiliar place. Mitsuki was beside her, tending to her like a proper medic. “Where am I? What’s going on?” she asked. As she attempted to sit up, she was struck by a terrible pain behind her right pigtail.
Mitsuki adjusted the ice pack on the pillow beneath her. “Just rest for the moment. You fell and hit your head while we were on a walk together. It must have knocked you unconscious. I carried you to my place, because it was closest. I hope you don’t mind.” He smiled, yet this time it didn’t unsettle her. It seemed warm and caring.
“No, I don’t mind. Thanks for taking care of me,” she said, smiling back at him. “Even though I got hurt, I’m glad to have some quiet time with you.” ChoCho took a deep breath prior to explaining it to him. “You see, I had this crazy dream! Sarada and I were watching this old tv series… Then Boruto and you showed up with a mysterious scroll. And when he opened it, it summoned the characters right off the screen and into our world! And this one mean girl was going ballistic over the whole thing.” Without even realising it, she took his hand and squeezed it. “It really was a freaky dream!”
His hand remained in hers and he squeezed back. “You shouldn’t let a dream like that bother you. Those things could never happen in real life. Everything is fine, now.” Mitsuki looked into her eyes. Ever so gradually, he leaned in closer to her.
Was this it? Was he going to kiss her? She felt her heart beating like a drum roll played on a taiko. At last, it was going to happen! True love’s first kiss...
Right at that second, Sarada burst through the door. “Mitsuki, ChoCho, hurry! Boruto opened some weird scroll he found and it transformed him into a car!”
The End
(Sorry this was late! The rest of my drabbles should be on time; however they will be even shorter... Anyway, hope you enjoyed the read! I could do so much more with these two fandoms, but I’d never finish on time!)

revolutionary girl utena review
ep 1-5
the plot is actually kinda different from what I thought ?? in my mind the plot was: utena was a girl in a princess school who each and every princess would be "conquered" (for a lack of better words rn) in a ceremonial duel by a prince who fancied them, maybe she didnt wanna wanna marry anyone or she liked Anthy already but anyway in my mind utena showed up in the ceremony with duel clothing and then, in a very brave tm like-scene, she would openly declare she refused to be conquered by anyone and tbh I'm not even sure how Anthy would come into the plot... but back into what actually happened in the episodes everything so far is very introductory and just showing what mechanics will be explored further down the line I think?? the op is really good too
also every boy so far reminds me so much of knights of the zodiac?? maybe it's just the design I guess...) and nanami can get these hands, jealousy is a disease and she's the sickest person on earth for all I know
dont ask me why bit I just feel like room of mirrors - gfriend has a very well fitting vibe for it but I'm not exactly sure why hm.... 🤔🤔
ep 6-12
ok so why does this school just have random animals around 😐 I could understand the horse but a bull and a kangaroo?? what ...
touga just says the most random dramatic things and then just casually says anyone who believes in friendship is a fool ?? the guy wouldnt last a day in the naruto universe tbh, he kinda irks me in some way but I'm not sure why so I'll live with this strange feeling for a while I guess
↳ okay so watching ep 10 made me especially kinda creeped out, I know I've watched only 10 eps so far but like can he fall downstairs and break a neck or something already ...
also haha what if I watched that bet on it fmv and gave myself a bunch of spoilers would that be funny or what 😍 this is why i cant have nice things yall.... hope my memory goes to shit when sleep so I dont remember about it this week while I finish it
I feel like the main thing on the episodes are parallels, one way or another I always feel like they're setting up parallels and giving me clues for a bigger picture and a deeper plot arc that is still to come and the bet on it fmv just made this impression stronger, also I wanna say it's done in a good way, one that is both mysterious (??) and "honey you've got a big storm coming" at the same time 🤔🤔 much to think about honestly
↳ just saw ep 11 and even though I already knew this was coming sooner or later it still felt like crap seeing utena lose to dick head, at the end of the episode when he says anthy was always just reflecting utena's own wishes for himemiya (in another way bc I dont remenber the exact words) it felt like 😐 bc yes I knew that (the way she was working her thoughts was simply a copy and paste of what utena was saying) at all time I kept those essays about anthy in my head, I dont think theyll be truly relatable to what I'm seeing rn but yeah anthy rights (even though I know you betray/cheat on utena down the line bc of the bet on it fmv but I'm sure you had your own motivation)
↳ saw ep 12 bc I just couldnt handle being in a cliffhanger and yeah it happened what I absolutely thought it would lmao not that it was that difficult to foresee but yeah, I kinda liked how utena did it for her instead of being like "oh I wanna save anthy from touga" and treating her like a damsel in distress (I know that's kinda her position as the rose bride for what I've been told so far and that this is a subject spoken about in many many essays on tumblr but yeah) bc so far she's been treated as a trophy and a way to get something else, for the green haired guy it was a way to see something eternal, for miki it was a way to hold on into his "shining thing" and for touga it seems (so far) like a way to manipulate (just like he does with nanami) and just mark his position as above everyone else as he seems to view himself?? man I might be saying random stuff rn but it kinda does makes sense in my mind with the information I've had to this point
ep 13-25
honestly 😐😐 through 9 whole episodes I felt like they were trying to make the side characters deeper and show their hidden face and motivations but it felt so shallow...... not even actually shallow, just not deep enough that it would make me care about these characters and the fact there was no actual build to showing us why we're getting to know these characters backgrounds was just kinda meh too, didnt really help that all episodes had all the same formula and the same timing just for the developers made in those episodes be forgotten at the end and also just that pink haired guy could be like "ah failure again", it felt like watching the same episode over and over again, it was really tiring and like?? girl help I do not care about these characters at all, I feel like it could have been done well (like the keiko ep in comparison to the furuba chapter that deals with the yuki appreciation (??) club president graduating.... the way this ep was done and setup didn't really bring me any emotions) overall not to my taste and tbh I feel like I could have skipped all those episodes except for maybe the miki and juri one so 😑
all nanami focused episodes are the worst so far, she's so boring and I cant stand now annoying she is, the diary episode?? the cow episode?? the episode when tsuwabiki fuels with utena?? honestly I know they're trying to show me a better and different side of her but it just doesnt!! work!! bc i feel no sympathy for her, my biggest wish rn is her and touga just disappearing and no more filler episodes🗣🗣
I thought akio was utena's prince?? but apparently he's just anthy's brother and like.. I'm do done with his little talks with utena and yadda yadda, I just wanna see their duel is that too much to ask I'm dying over here (if this lenga lenga continues until ep 25 i will be so mad bc why were so many episodes wasted on such boring and and not necessary side characters backstories?? idc about them at all man aaaaaaaaaa)
↳ ep 25 was good finally we got what we deserve boys 😭😭😭😭😭 can utena just beat up akio already I'm tired of his ass, he exhales both "I'm a feminist I even take women studies classes #herstory" and "if she breathes she's a thot" energy also he has 0 style that mullet is simply horrible I bet there's a hairstylist community who considers him a criminal bc like 😐 it is simply so bad (q bit less when it's tied up but when it's all lose jesus Christ)
also touga thinks he's suuuuch a genius, sooo smart like king, I do not care about you at all can you shut the fuck up please and can we tall about the pink haired guy episode?? wack. honestly thought it would be more emotional or something, I binge watched 12 episodes with his ugly haircut face and did not even feel a thing he can choke I guess ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
ANTHY TAKING A SWORD OUT OF UTENA'S CHEST??? OSCAR WORTHY KINGS❗❗❗and then her lame ass brother being like "oh ho ho idk idk" shut up no one cares no one cares I swear to you no one cares shut uuuuup
ep 25-39
first of all, ep 25 was good but kinda reminded me of the nine episodes (13 until 21) where absolutely nothing interesting happened so I hope I'm wrong also can I just say just seeing the preview of the next episode made me roll my eyes so bad I almsot saw my brain?? bc yeah I'm fucking tired of nanami fosuced episodes she's so annoying oh my god nobody cares about a goddamn egg and much less one coming from her let her die or something pls she's so annoying there's nothing I've learned about her that was not against my own will I'm basically rotting over here 🤒
↳ ep 30 has me thinking Akio has a foot fetish or something 😐 bruh leave utena aloooooone I already know your plans and schemes you're not fooling anyone that's embarrassing for u and also... utena you're not very bright are you.... you start seeing every duelist you face with the same exact car and then when you see akio has the same car you didnt even stop to think about it that 1+1 equals 2 ... girl help yourself 😐
↳ yet again another nanami focused ep 😐😐😐😐😐 even though I do understand her better now I still don't find her particularly enjoyable to watch, call me a woman hater but like. idk she's still a bit annoying to me (but touga is straight up evil and is manipulating her so I feel bad for feeling like that tho.....)
↳ ok last 2 eps to go but listen. I thought the akio duel would have happened much sooner, maybe on ep 33 max but well didn't this age well lmao ngl, it did seem a bit too slow paced for my personal taste but also I feel like there's a certain level of drama that comes with slowing the pace down....
↳ aaaaaa yall I'm kinda 😢😭 over the ending omg........... even though it took the best of me to keep going in some parts I still enjoyed the ending aaaaa I thought i wouldnt really like it bc I just usually dont enjoy this type of ending but stil 😢😢😢😢 wait for me utena 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 girl I cried and then anthy walking in the end god utena and anthy holding hands 😭😭😭😭 akio can suck my dick
there's obviously many things I've missed or that I kinda didnt really pay attendance to so please dont take this serious, I was just writing as I watched the episodes so it's more like a thought compilation than anything, still I can see why there's many essays written about it and why it is held as a masterpiece by so many people

Thoughts on Utena: Blooming Rose of Deepest Black (THE MUSICAL)
Saw the Utena black rose musical and it was great! did a ton of cool things and additions to the arc. Gonna list my favorites.
-They did this really cool thing where when the Black Rose duelists were on stage the person they took the sword from was on stage too and Utena would be fighting both of them (and sometimes they would cross swords with each other too). You’d have both duelists saying things and going into their issues at the same time, so you could see how they mirrored each other. This REALLY paid off at the end when Utena was fighting Mikage, Dios showed up and Mikage was able to see him and was fighting both of them. The theme of duality and parallels between people was just emphasized super well.
-It is WAY more obvious in the musical Shiori has feelings back for Juri (but is expressing them in a truly fucked up way because she thinks she can’t keep Juri’s attention unless she has power over her) than it was in the show. While she and Juri are fighting Utena near the end, they both just kind of have a breakdown and Shiori lets her vulnerability actually show, they pull close to each other and straight up kiss (!!) then they both break away frantically with Juri saying “I don’t believe in miracles” and Shiori saying “I believe in miracles”, honestly I’d have to watch the whole thing again to give a full breakdown, but it was really interesting.
-Shiori’s actress was SO GOOD, she could alternate between sickeningly sweet and truly unhinged, you could just always FEEL she was a second from losing it. Akio did really well at giving me the creeps in every single scene as well.
-Like in the last musical, Saionji’s dorkiness is amped up in a way that makes him pretty fun to watch despite still being hot garbage, my favorite bit was when Utena knocks on the door while he’s living with Wakaba, he just STRAIGHT UP IS TOO INEPT TO FIGURE OUT WHERE TO HIDE in his panic, and poor Wakaba has to frustratedly shove him into a hiding place. Also, he later pretends to be a statue when Juri sees him. Also at one point Miki and Juri just straight up shove him out of the way, such is their disdain, it’s great.
-during said incident where Utena comes to visit Wakaba, Wakaba not only does the “I’M PRAYING! I’M VERY RELIGIOUS!” thing but also pretends she was “practicing transforming like a superhero” and yells “HENSHIN!” Utena offers her Anthy’s casserole which she says “tastes like the inside of a kendo mask” wow how could she NOT want it when you sell it like that Utena.
- the musical also gets more into the fallout of Wakaba’s duel! At the end of it, Utena cradles Wakaba in her arms, sobbing and shouting “WHO WOULD DO THIS? UNFORGIVEABLE!” Afterward, she’s worried Wakaba isn’t coming to school and isn’t answering her when she knocks on her dorm door, and says “I’m sure like the others she doesn’t remember the duel, I wonder if it has something to do with Saionji coming back.” (WOW BABY MADE AN OBVIOUS CONNECTION! I’M SO PROUD OF HER! no i really am)
but then Wakaba comes to visit with her own (better than Anthy’s of course) casserole all cheerful and Utena’s like “oh i didn’t have to worry!” (oh honey why must you always accept everything at face value) and they sing this WHOLE CHEESY SONG about the power of friendship while Anthy just sits there with her empty glassy eyed smile CLEARLY DYING INSIDE but near the end Utena nudges her into participating and she seems to kinda start to enjoy it, because she keeps singing it even while going to sit beside Akio on the couch and he looks SO ANNOYED.
-THEY INCLUDE THE NANAMI COW PLOT BECAUSE HOW COULD THEY NOT. There’s a part where Utena asks Miki why he won’t just tell her and he’s like “well she’s so confident now!” and it’s a genuinely funny asshole moment from him, LIKE LACK OF OUTWARD CONFIDENCE WAS EVER NANAMI’S PROBLEM.
I guess the main nitpick I have about the musical(s) is Nanami’s role IS pretty much completely reduced to comic relief, and the cow thing is her only real plotline in this- I was kinda hoping they’d fold her first duel into the Black Rose arc since it’d be pretty easy to, just have her be Touga’s duelist, but alas (I can see why they didn’t, it’d be a time crunch). Her arc was one of my favorites in the anime, so its a shame. Like yeah, a large part of her screentime were the comic relief episodes, but even those often gave us a look at the underlying insecurities that drove her. Even the cow episode has that sequence where she dreamed that now that she was fully a cow, her brother was sending her to the slaughterhouse. It showed that she was (rightly) terrified her brother would discard her at the slightest provocation, and was well aware of how he was. But even that part wasn’t in the musical.
There WAS a great moment however, when she ascended as student council president and Miki’s like “uhhhh are you a duelist? since when” and she was like “yeah I dueled Utena Tenjou last time” and looked at the audience and is like “JUST BECAUSE YOU DIDN’T SEE IT DOESN’T MEAN IT DIDN’T HAPPEN” so that at least confirms her arc still takes place in the canon of the musical it’s all just offscreen lol. I love that Nanami has the ability to break the fourth wall, she also thanks the stagehand at one point. There’s also an ongoing arc between her and Wakaba of all people, she kind of bullied her in the first musical, but in this one she got jealous of Wakaba during the moment she was “special” and tried competing with her as she sang. Then Wakaba successfully berated her into CARRYING A SETPIECE OFFSTAGE so they could change scenes.
- Anthy remains fantastic, she still has that super-lowkey creepy laugh that she did when Utena asked if the projector was her brother. You could also just REALLY see how uncertain and guilty she was about the whole Mamiya thing, and at the end there’s this part where while Akio is talking to her about her role in all of it, Utena’s running around looking for her, and then Anthy finally runs to her, and Utena says “I’ve got you” while standing behind her and kinda cradling her in that possessive/princely pose and Anthy just has this thousand yard terrified stare that’s full of guilt and conflict and a million other things and it cuts to black and it’s SO UNSETTLING, I got chills.
Anyway yeah, it’s a FANTASTIC show uttely fully of love for the story and good understanding of its themes, and I can’t wait to watch it again, there’s a million little things I missed or can’t remember enough to post about here, so maybe next time I see it I’ll try writing down some more stuff right after.

Revolutionary Girl Utena Live(ish) Reaction Episodes 8-11
So it's a new year, and I'm gonna continue this, cause its' fun. Had a brief break cause of the holidays. And doing so, I figure i'm gonna do a thing where I make up a nice cleaned up version of these cause if nothing else I like organizing my thoughts. So Control F or whatever your find function is for the cleaned up version if that's your thing. It'll be under Overall Thoughts per ep. Or you know, you're me and you're going back through this for validation for whatever nonsense you say later.
Episode 8
Curry huh? And another recap? uh....
enmy remains trifling
hey wait egg time already?
Danger? Really?
Body swap? Also egg time is goofs
throwin hands????? anthy?
Yeah nanami it is ridiculous
JERSUS TOGA
nanami you idiot
She just fucked off to india to get some weird back alley spice
Shadow girls can you please, just please for a single episode.
ANTHY YOU LYING. Never been good at sports and you did that leap apparently pretty well? What the fuck.
Also, the switching thing here is mad suspect considering the end theme thing (and I suppose the opening.
Utena as Anthy : I don't want to be a sacrifice of the rose seal.
Anthy As Utena: I'm super down staying like this actually.
Like..This is just details that
Uh..Uh saionji what. The implications are strong here. Also, Douche canoe he is, but he's a romantic apparently? UUUUH. Exchange diary.
Is the “A” plot a distraction? Like for real.
Also she took that elephant to the dome.
I'm not sure how to take this personality switch. Like the minds thing whatever, but if it's just the personalties but not the person so to speak,  hold on
WHAT THE FUCK. These elephants for fucking real?
Anyway, if they're just personalities altering the “person” it's uh...Interesting. I'm not sure how to take that til I get more info. It seems like a thing.
Also, Saionji apparently legit has feels for Anthy he's just...mad dumb about expressing it? Like he's pulling a lot of Badboy Romance Tropes here but...not...in a badboy romance. Which kills his behavior entirely.
Killed his Soul AGAIN. Damn.
Who's the divine justice for? Like it doesn't seem for nanami. Who fucked up. Presumably between anthy and utena.
Anthy what the actual fuck are you doing. Are you using gunpowder?
Homie, this isn't twilight, go home saionji.
Anthy as Utena(????) you trolling. So hard.
Saionji get's zero respect but dudes dedicated I'll give him that. Fitting for bad boy romance lead.
Uh...Wait, actually, are they all romance leads? Common ones in one way or the other. They are on the student Council so...Hm. I don't read enough romance stories of the variety I think but it seems to fit? I'm not sure what juri would be in that case.
Anyway, if this Episode Turns out to be a key for understanding things I'm gonna be pissed. Just a little.
Overall Thoughts: So this and the other “filler” episode is, especially after finishing my last ep in the session, read as anything but despite the obvious uh...antics on display. Like...
Ok, so the whole thing with the ending which frames Anthy and Utena as kinda the same (or rather exactly the same, except one's in red and the other pink) makes this whole episode feel like it's basically some kind of key for understanding everything else because it's simple times. It's goofy hilarity with Nanami that's the A Plot right hahahah....
Except the personality swap between the two of them is like...The implication here is that they swapped minds fully, and given the level of fairy tale bullshit that is at play constantly in this series so far it may well just be magic brand magic and we're supposed to roll with it. Ok. Fair.
Except...The thought that sits in my head is again, Anthy and Utena seem to equal each other. Hell I point it out slightly later that there's definitely this yin yang thing going on in the opening with the two which is so blatant as to be meaningless because Hah Yeah these are our two leads obvs and they're important to each other so hahah don't worry about or think about it check out these SWEET SWORDSMANSHIP MOMENTS FROM EVERYONE LOOK AT THE BUDGET AND COOL HORSES AND CASTLES HAHAHA.
But ok, if it's a Yin Yang thing, yes they're not the same but they have elements of each other within eachother. So if it's just a personality swap but not an actual soul swap thing, that is, Anthy is just acting like Utena's personality is in her, and Utena is just acting like Anthy's personality is in her it paints this picture of Utena and Anthy as having a lot going on under the surface. I mean obviously Anthy is fucking pissed at Saionji. That was really really evident in episode one because if she's just being submissive rosebride I do what i'm told and I do what i'm told I do what i'm told, the very very very sharp dig of “We're Just classmates” is fucking brutal unnecessity. And given that she DOES know what he feels for her, and he's still acting like that, her being vindictive(or just brusque really, he's being an ass full bore) is like...absolutely reasonable.
Her Slapping back and about to throw hands with her tormentors? Who wouldn't want to right?
But then, ok that's Anthy, but what about Utena. If it's just a mind swap, Utena...want's a very defined existence? Like, she wants to just stick to a role? Feels weird, and doesn't quite immediately jive with her cause that seems against her operations right? Except, as this episode so kindly reminds us (for at least the third time in 8 episodes which seems excessive. I might be forgetting one or two) Utena's whole thing coming to this school is I want to play the Role of the Prince, whatever that actually means. Playing the Rose Bride would be no real difference, except it's way more submissive.
So that aside, Saionji saying he's in love with Anthy (and that seems to be something he at least believes to be true. He honestly seems more into Toga. Like for real for real, all the imagery of those flashbacks reads not just as close buddies, but as I am romantically down with you Toga my guy. Him being Bi is probably the easiest answer, and he just drifted away from Toga for a while. Saionji clearly sees him as a friend and rival, although it's seemingly not reciprocated at the moment.
But the thing, the thing that's kinda weird to me, is that if he does legit have feelings for her, I was struck with this odd vibe that he's playing at being a romance lead. Specifically, a Bad Boy romance lead. And doing so SPECTACULARLY badly. Homeboy is sitting here busting out poetry (unless my brain is being a dumb and i'm somehow overlaying him with Tatewaki Kuno from Ranma which ok, weird but alright) but...
Ok, if he is playing at being a Badboy Romance lead, that actually explains his behavior for how he was treating Anthy, especially if he's legit in his feelings for her? Possessive, Radiates Danger, Engages in Creepy Behavior, is a bit of a dick, etc. It lines up with Being a Bad Boy, except that the way that those usually work out in fiction, as I understand it, they're not usually like...gonna hit you. That breaks the fantasy. But...That's him fucking up the archetype. It doesn't fit for him. He doesn't understand what he's doing in that archetype.
Like yes, abusers and the like can care and still be absuers cause fucked up behavior and motivations don't need to match in the least, but it still feels odd that a man who probably literally could have done any number of fucked up things has...an exchange diary with the girl he says he cares about? And it's not like he's unaware of how submissive/passive she is, his exchange diary actually kinda reads like Utena's Anthy is A Real Girl! Activities*. He wants her to be active part of whatever their relationship is and...Eh.
But ok, if he's that, It suggests the rest of the student council, and duelists in general, would fit into a given archetype right? Toga is clearly the super cool intelligent superman student council president, Juri is basically charisma max Jock, Miki is the cute nerd, Nanami is the Ojou villainess type, Utena is...Basically the Hero type, just morals, strains to upset the status quo, Has the Cool Original Uniform.
And they all kinda fit into those pretty thoroughly, kinda like they're trying to (to varying levels of awareness)
Anyway, I'll hit on some of the other stuff in the next Ep. It's a bit more relevant there I think.
*See Me In Episode 11
Episode 9
I just realized they're doing some kinda yinyang thing in the opening so
R V G FIGHT.
Pretty tense there. Toga went straight for the heart which i'm sure means nothing.
Old Friends? Phrasing seems uh...odd? Unsure if it's dub things or actual subtext. Or both.
Dude you really got beef with a monkey? No, utena.
Being a huge dick. As is tradition.
10 Years.
Saionji: Actually love her (said) but
This is mad gay. Like the lighting, the silhouette. Saionji you're sublimating something here.
Music, Silhouettes.
...Silhouettes show truth? uh.
They were Utena's folks funeral? Huh. Also, why on earth would Utena be kidnapped? Who she be?
….Three coffins. Uh. Uhhhhhh. Utena, Toga, Saionji? UuuuHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH?
Dead utena. Uh.
Toga: Ally to all women. Ok.
...Why is there a third coffin?
Something Eternal huh? And Utena wants to die for reasons understandable.
Find another coffin. Rose Sigils on the coffins. Uh. Uhhhhhhhhhhhh.
Saionji: Hey, this is nuts, we should stop her.
Toga: Nah, I'm gonna Ennable the shit out of this.
Tiny Utena with the White Rose?
Saionji: Did he do something to her?
Toga: Nope
Uh....
Anthy: Something Eternal in the castle. I want to go there.
Also impressive grip strength considering. Flat.
Does Toga Remember this or...? I can't be sure. Saionji certainly didn't recognize her, but he wasn't like right on top of the trauma child.
Toga white roses? Uh? Uhhhhh. I think he definitely remembers. But questions abound.
Ufo's shadow girls? Shadow girls having flesh is deeply concerning.
TRUE FRIENDS ARE JUST FANTASIES. OK.
And UFO's broke, so that's probably not great. Who's getting the Revelations today.
That is the fakest voice toga what the fuck
Badboy Saionji: We're Gonna get the eternity.
Also, I just realized they (saionji and anthy) have color inversions going on which is making me kinda wonder if they're related in some way?
Just slap the shit out of him that's fair.
Ok, so Saionji didn't(?) do the dumb thing. Ok,
that is...a coffin. That he's 100% obssessed with. With Anthy (Utena) inside.
He's looking like he kissed his own mom right now, goin full oedipus in the holy shit revelations here.
Castle is crumbling, falling down. So...Eternity is Fake. Ok. Sure. Didn't shadow girls say that?
Castle Immediately tried to kill him. Crushed his soul 1 time too many there I suppose.
Utena, meanwhile, dove super deep into saving anthy which...diving deeper into the fantasy?
Yeah, they all just saw things.
Saionji: WHAT THE FUCK JUST HAPPENED WHATS GOING ON?
Bro, me too.
Ok, if the two are reflections, does Anthy and saionji both got some deep illusory bullshit going on? Are they both freaking out?
Toga, saving the day, and Saionji, tried to kill Utena with a sword. so. Ok.
Saionji Expelled?  Toga, fool for thinking they're friends?
WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED HERE?
Overall Thoughts: I touched on a bunch of the Saionji stuff I wanna talk about in the last episode review, but the thing I kinda want to look at here is well...
Ok, Now the colors probably don't mean anything, but there was this moment that Saionji and Anthy were in the same shot and I suddenly realized they're color flips of each other. Purple hair green eyes, Green Hair Purple eyes, which ok that's interesting.
So we already have Utena Reflecting on Anthy, and hey, there's Zero Reason, absolutely negative number reasons why that wouldn't necessarily be the case with any and all of the rest of the duelists to some degree or another.
And hell, the fact that we keep flipping back and forth between Utena and Anthy in Coffins, there being (for some weird ass reason) a third entirely unrelated coffin for Utena's folks funeral, why the fuck not right?
So ok, Anthy and Saionji mirror each other which...Ok. If the Personality Swap from Episode 8 thing holds, The two actually share some pretty dickish actions. They can be cruel and petty and just antagonistic to things that don't quite jive with what they want. Saionji with Anthy not being...whatever he's expecting out of her, or Utena butting in. Anthy with the girls who keep fucking with her and Saionji.
They both seem to be utterly STUCK on the Rose Bride thing, although from different angles of Possessing the Rosebride and being the Rosebride, and the kind of weird shaping of the Rosebride thing that's going on.
Saionji is treated as a joke by the student council, especially after he get's kicked out, which ultimately ends with him being someone who is generally wanted but ends up ultimately exiled from society. Which mirrors with Anthy as someone is is wanted, but doesn't seem to have ANY kind of actual tangible bonds with anyone.
And, for this last one I have ZERO evidence on the Anthy end, but the suggestions are uh..interesting. Saionji in this episode, as suggested by the shadow girls at least in part, is deeply deeply invested in a fantasy of some kind, one that ultimately leaves him crushed and rather empty, further exiled from people who could or do care for him and that he cares about. Which if we're going with the property sliding across and He's a Foil for Utena (which I think is definitely true in some ways) suggests bad things for her down the line.
Episode 10
Saionji's a joke huh? He's taking it well.
Toga WOW. WOW YOU FUCKING DOUCHE. STRAIGHT IN THE FIRE HUH.
EGG TIME.
So, thing about eggs, that includes whats inside it right? so...Revolutionize yourself right? Right? That's obvious right?
Oh new duelist. Cool cool.
Utena getting slapped. By Nanami. With Utena being hella submissive. (EPISODE 8 FLASHBACKS INTENSIFY)
maybe a girl can't be a prince. THERES THAT THESIS. E8 FLASHBACKS
Nanami got her brother a kitty.
Oh damn it is Nanami. Duel Time. I mean we sall it in the opening but you know.
Jesus Toga, please stop being
OH GOD NANAMI NO. NOOOOOO NOPE NO.
Toga: We ain't kids no more. Shit don't fly.
Nanami: Emotionally devastated.
Is that Miki's sister?
Hey, what happened to the cat?
Juri: Hey, Serious Business, what the fucks up with the duelist?
Toga is perpatrating as badly as nanami actually. He's just less immediately obvious about it I guess.
Goddamnit there's Anthy's next slap. Jesus. Legit, who hasn't at this point. Is this a theme? IS THIS A THING?
Jesus, he's just playing all of this to piss her off? What the fucks up.
...Did nanami kill the cat. Uh...Uhhhhhh.
Ring is an engagement ring. Wait, that's a flat out school rule that everyone knows? For real? Uh.
...What the fuck happened with the kitty. Uh...
ITS TIME. ABSOLUTE DESTINYYYYYYYYYYYY
I just realized the kinda weird framing with Anthy dressing up utena kinda looks like her opening her legs up with the way it get's framed and I'm not sure if that's me just kinda over reading things or if that's a thing.
Nanami's duel outfit is SICK. Also, a yellow alt color of utena.
Actually. ACTUALLY? Is...Is Nanami like an Utena Alt color? That can't be right. Actually looking at  them right next to each other they're...straight up alt colors of each other. Not to mention Nanami's my prince thing mirrors Utena.
She just HOT pulled a knife. Oh she's About to fucking hot MERC utena, going for death jessus.
They're supposed to be around the same age too for that matter right?
She absolutely killed that cat and it's...
With her hair down she does look like an utena alt color even more.
Why's the duel music still going after the duel finished. Jesus. This wasn't a duel with Nanami, it was a duel with Toga, and I think Utena Hot lost it out and out.
Overall Thoughts: Well the Big thing I'm paying attention here are two. First the simpler one.
The Egg has to break the shell of the world to be born right? I'm paraphrasing badly, but the thing is the way they keep phrasing that is that the World is the Egg, but the egg isn't just the shell right? It includes what's inside of it. Which if that's the case, mixed with the way that duels work out being more a clash of ideals than of actual tangible skill, the revolutionize the world bit seems to be referring to them themselves, that is the duelists.
Alternatively, the Bird Referenced, the thing being revolutionized is Anthy. Which...Is an interesting line of thought. Given the Duels as a whole are basically choosing who her fiance will be, that'd imply that ultimately this decides the way that Anthy would come to develop? Or how she chooses to develop? Which ok if so, and the way that Ideals seem to be at play, Suggests...What? Dunno. Need more info, which will be delivered later.
But the other thing here, continuing the mirroring thing, which might be me reading too deeply, but I think not and even if it is Whatever I'm having fun.
THE ENTIRE NANAMI DUEL felt like a Mirror Match.Heck, Nanami dressed like an alt color of Utena, and especially once her hair got undone she looked even more like an alt color of Utena. They're only about a year different in age, and her brother seems to be her Prince type, and he drops the ring on her like an engagement ring, and she basically says I fight like my brother because he's my ideal.
Which is a weird thing since right now it's not going...too far. I'll have to see how it shakes out, but if the mirroring thing continues, the fact that the moment she lost she basically said nope fuck that, Knife Time, was...Concerning. It says real concerning things with Utena.
But it also says other interesting things then, because if Nanami is supposed to be some kind of Alt color Utena, similar in ambition goals and the like, if more outwardly girly to Utena's princey thing, their relationship with Anthy is uh..
Uh...
Well put simply, Utena is fucking up big and dramatic with Anthy, and she doesn't realize it at all or care because she can't see it for what it is. Nanami actively tries to undermine Anthy, and does some fucked up things to her. Which..Makes me wonder about the Divine Judgement thing from Episode 8 which, damnably, seems to be forming some kind of key here.
Like the way it's frame suggests the divine Judgement being visited upon Nanami is what's being talked about. But ok, Nanami had some bad shit happen to her sure, but...All of that was self inflicted upon her trying to fix what she percieves as a problem. Yes her reasons for doing it are so she can be with her brother, no doubt, but...They're ridiculous. Like, I cannot believe this shit is happening. But
But
If the Target of Divine Judgement/punishment is the Anthy Utena duo, one or both of them are on the receiving end of it. It's not clear how Acting like Utena would be a punishment for Anthy (I'm sticking with it just being a personality swap and not a full mind swap) but Utena who prides herself on being princely and aspires to that being the super submissive rosebride? I could see that being a kind of hell for her. And if the logic of Utena is Undermining Anthy holds out, but the criitcal difference being her ignorance and dishonesty of why compared to Nanami unabashedly saying yes I am fucking doing this fuck you I get what I want no hold barred, it...
Like, Nanami, as far as it goes, doesn't really receive a punishment if we're being honest. Yes she takes a couple of elephants to the dome, and has to be away from her brother and see her thing fail but..The way it's treated by herself and everyone else is basically a LOL THESE THINGS HAPPEN I GUESS HAHAHA. The Utena/Anthy swap meanwhile seems considerably more serious for them (especially considering the Everyone Slaps Anthy thing that seems to legit be a thing. Somehow. Except here Applied to “Utena”), and seems to cause some serious distress.
We'll see I guess.
Episode 11
As I watch this opening more and more, why is anthy like constantly framed like...Ominous as shit? Is it me?
Homegirl is just. Damn. Sure glad NOTHING BAD WILL HAPPEN (I do not trust this series to not have something bad happen to Wakaba. Again.)
Anthy. Are..are you...passive aggressively doing...something
Toga: I can see through the illusions yeah boi.
I do not trust this for an inch. He is abusing the shit out of his framing, like the whole time, and I don't trust.
Toga is “student council prince” archetype. Miki's nerdy student counciler.
EGG TIME
Juri is...Antagonistic But well meaning?
Saionji...I'm not sure he was actually on the stuco. But if so, bad boy.
What....is with the balloons. The color coded balloons.
Miki: Like a Pet Cat.
The Pet Cat that died, got killed.
WHAT IS WITH THESE BALLOONS.
ALSO I SEENT YOU PURPLE BALLOON.
So if the duels are ideal clashes more than actually a matter of direct skill, is this Toga (touga?) trying to fuck with Utena before the fight?
Anthy is a Bird. Ok. And Toga, arguably, being the biggest dick here. We thought it was Saionji, but the trick was he's the red part of the rose.
Anthy shut down REAL quick when being the rose bride was brought up.
Is Utena projecting mad hard onto Anthy here?
Homeboy needs to stop playing these games.
Utena, Stahp.  DO NOT TRUST HIM.
Toga, You...DOUCHE. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH
Toga: Oh My B, Shouldn't act that way in front of the rose bride. ALSO DUELING LETS GOOOOO.
Utena: one link forces me to fight him. Meanwhile, rose symbols everywhere, a lot of them brought in by anthy.
Hmmmmmmm.
Utena is hard not understanding something here. I don't know what (rose bride related for sure) but I don't get...WHAT is off here.
Cause thinking about it, Utena's objective with Anthy is arguably the most noble, but she's still not quite treating anthy as a person.
….William Tell Interlude is SUITABLY CONCERNING considering the above thoughts so uh.
Also that was a weirdly specific number. 30K arrows or something?
I just realized that the DARKNESS OF DARKNESS OF LIGHT OF DESTINY OF (INSERT) things seems to show up right around anthy a lot. I'm not super sure if that's a whole thing or just a this episode thing, but...
Is Utena about to get HOT DUNKED? Because I think she is.
Also, I just realized, Utena slid into that pull sword out of rose bride thing right quick and she's never once questioned that.
So yes, Utena has BOOTY but cheeks swordsmanship, which yeah, obvs. Two of the people she beat were actually skilled before this fight, and yet she won somehow.
I don't know how to deal with these lyrics. But Toga is absolutely  fucking with her head here.
And She Lost. Decisively. YUP. WELP THIS IS GONNA BE A THING NEXT TIME.
Toga: Hey you don't have to deal with this bullshit anymore.
Utena is doing the EXACT same shit Miki and Saionji were pulling, and Anthy's blank soulless stare is freaking me the hell out. Again.
So, ideals here. But the idea that whoever has a...better grasp of the truth is the victor. Which makes sense that Toga wins here.
Jesus, Soul crush 2.0, except it's on Utena this time. Goddamn.
WELL NEXT EPISODE PROMISES TO BE FUN.
Utena: ITS NOT TRUE. ITS NOT TRUE!
The Anime Revolutionary Girl Utena IMMEDIATELY: MISSING TRUTH ETCETC HOLD ME IN YOUR TRUE ARMS I WANT TO KEEP SMASHING LIES APART
SURE THAT MEANS NOTHING GUYS GGNORE.
Also, no joke, these seem like a Direct response to this episode and I'm not sure how to feel about that.
I want to be hated by lies? Uhhhhh.
Overall Thoughts: So Hey, Here we are in Episode 11 and I want to talk about how Utena and Saionji basically are each other right here.
Like overtly even I think, even if the actions aren't precise clean mirrors to each other which I guess is just how i'm going to be going through this series right now RiP.
But ok, here's the thing. What has been increasingly clear as time goes by is that Utena is fundamentally misunderstanding something about Anthy. I'm not sure fully what it is, but it's clearly Rosebride related, and the thing with the clashing ideals suggests that the.
Actually let me explain that clear like. Right now my read on the Duels is that they are NOT in any way shape or form a demonstration of skill. I Think that's clear through this point, but I'm making it explicit for my own sake. The Victor of the Duel isn't the better fighter. If that were the case, It'd suggest the only ones in the running at all would be Toga or Saionji (Juri should also be in here, but I'm not actually clear how skilled she is compared to those two, and the way they're treated suggests that Toga and Saionji are comparable in pure skill/ability.)
But Utena somehow beat Saionji like three times, Juri and Miki. Miki's whatever, but Juri clearly knows what she's doing, and Saionji seems to be Kendo Team captain so you know. Up there. Meanwhile, Utena explicitly is an amateur.
I'm not saying, in full, that actual skill with the blade is a null thing, but your ideals seems to be the biggest factor over everything else. Presumably, people rocking equally “powerful” ideals would fall to skill with the sword.
Anyway. The Truths that Seem to be critical are Anthy Wants to Be Free of the Rosebride. Ok, so Utena has the right read then right? But then she lost to Toga who seems to be rocking Anthy Wants to Be, or else Considers herself fundamentally to be, the Rosebride, which is something that Utena seems to be denying about Anthy, but is none the less true.
But then, How are Utena and Saionji the same? Well, remember an episode back where I was talking about the divine punishment thing and all that jazz from episode 8?
It hits both of them for mistreating the Rosebride. There is a fantasy going on between Utena and Saionji, and while Saionji's is a bit complicated and unclear I think, Utena's actually is pretty straightforward I think. Utena want's to be a prince. That's her fantasy. The general virtues she want's to possess are great. Good even. But the specific's seems to involve a kind of rides in and saves the day riding in on a white horse thing, where she's the hero and does for some poor unfortunate girl what her prince did to her.
Saionji's meanwhile, seems to be something of him having a genuine reciprocal relationship with Anthy, with him inhabiting the role of a badboy romantic lead while the two of them have feelings for each other. When, really, he doesn't seem to care for her, or at least the feelings that he has for her are considerably weaker than whatever awkward feelings he has going on for Toga (I'm seriously a little fuzzy here, cause it feels like following his most recent defeat he's rocking some kind of clarity? I don't know how it's gonna work out, but I could sorta see him Returning and upsetting whatever the then status quo is.)
But notably, the big thing between them is their staunch refusal to accept what seems to be really true about their relationship with Anthy.
That the end theme seems to immediately pop up as an answer to Utena's reaction feels...Purposeful.

The Great Green And Yellow Garbage Fire
By Itavin
In the dueling arena they fight, the one of yellow and the one of red. The rose bride stands as their witness, filling the arena with roses of yellow who are then painted red by her and my friend. The rose opens a mirror, and there I see, I am the one in rose bride cloth. As I see the chains of my fate melt, I see one rose colored…
“Hmm?” Saionji mutters as he wakes up. “Oh it must be a dream” He thought. He wakes out of bed and looks at what has appeared under his bed. “Why is that… are those eggs?” Saionji muttered to himself. He was so shocked to see an egg under his bed, he couldn’t help but be completely shocked. "Why am I laying eggs? I am not a chicken and definitely not a girl one for sure” Saionji thought guiltfuly in his head. “Well maybe someone planted it in my bed as a joke” He laid to himself. However, deep down he knew the truth. “Still I must protect the eggs, until its owner comes back!” He explained to himself secretly knowing that he has to take the egg he laid.
He went to the academy the next day feeling rather angry. “Man, it’s some stupid stuff there, me needing to take an egg to school. Only idiots like Touga would actually think its cool to lay eggs. But still, does this happen to everyone at school?” Saionji thought. He then bumped into Utena and Anthy on his way. “Oh sorry Saionji, I didn’t meant to hurt you.” Anthy said. Utena turned her head around and said “yeah sorry about that”. Saionji thought how to himself “What in the fuck is this girl trying to do break my egg?”. He turned around and was about to slap Anthy. Anthy turned around and looked at Saionji. Saionji looked back at her with blush. “I never thought that Anthy was so well looking before…” He thought. He then muttered “Watch where youre going, Anthy-Baka”. Utena said to Anthy “You know, Saionji is acting really weird today, don’t you think?.  Anthy replied “Yes, he acts weirder then when a human lays eggs, right?”.
“Oh that stupid Anthy with her stupid stuff”. Saionji muttered. “I wonder, is it possible for guys to lay eggs? Maybe Miki knows?” He thought. He then went to Miki at recess. He was in the piano room looking rather sad. Saionji asked Miki “Hey is it possible for human men to lay eggs?”. Miki stopped his stopwatch. It showed 1.98. Miki giggled a bit “Well, I said that to Nanami already but it is impossible. Its even weird in my opinion.”. Saionji got angry. “Oh you think youre better than me because I lay eggs, just so you know that is very offensive to guys who actually lay eggs. Youre hurting their feelings idiot!”.   Saionji got out of the room in anger. Miki thought to himself “What is up with eggs and the student council? I honestly don’t understand. Maybe I’m too young to understand…”.
“Stupid Miki, what does he know about Eggs anyway. Ha, you know, I bet I am so special since I lay eggs, everyone should worship me! Maybe this could finally give me the power to enter the castle in the sky…” Saionji thought. He then realized something “Dosent that mean that… I have more power the Touga?” He thought. He smiled to himself. He went and searched for Touga at the rose garden. “You said you have an idea how to get in the castle in the sky?” Touga asked. “Why yes, I think that because I have found the weapon to get in the castle.” Saionji replied. “What is it?” Touga asked. “My eggs!” replied Saionji with passion. Touga had a little grin and laughed a bit. “Well what size are your eggs?” Touga asked. “Well, they are about the size of chicken eggs, maybe a little smaller. Why are you asking?” Saionji replied. Touga giggled a bit and replied, “Well as your best friend, I must disappoint you and say that those are some small eggs if you want to enter the castle. Needs to be bigger than mine, at least.”. “Um, how big are your eggs?” asked Saionji with doubt in his mind. “At least the size of a tyrannosaurus, or even bigger” Touga said with a grin in his face. Saionji looked very embarrassed. “If you want, I could show you how to have bigger e…”  Then Saionji turned around and said “Thank you. I truly think you are my friend.” Saionji said . “Of course we are. If you need help, I would be glad to help.” Touga said.
“Hmm, what does it matter if my eggs aren’t as big as his? It only matters if they hatch helpfuly. Well they wont be as strong or powerful or… Oh whom am I kidding, this idiot Touga has probably huge eggs, double my size. But that won’t mean I can’t get with th…” Saionji was caught off his thought thread when Nanami bumped into him. He had an annoyed reaction to the action that has happened. Before he could say a word Nanami said “Watch where you are going, Baka!” and walked away slightly blushed. “Geez, she is acting weird today” Saionji commented. “Well, she has been acting weird all day now” Tsuwabuki commented trying to catch Nanami. “So, do you know what happened to her, Im just interested” Saionji asked. “Wait, I don’t care about Nanami, why now , is it the dream…” Saionji thought. “Well, she said its because of something that appeared in her bed this morning, but that’s it” Tsuwabuki answered. “Wait, could it be she also laid eggs? I need to ask her, but first…” Saionji thought and quickly asked afterword “Hey, Tsuwabuki, had you ever had a weird chains melting dream and t…” Tsuwabuki who was half listening quickly turned his head around and answerd “Oh, I had my first one not to long ago. It is very common in fact for these dreams to happen. They say they start around 5th grade, I must be so adult for getting them this young” Tsuwabuki said innocently. Saionji was shocked. “I never had these kind of dreams when I was young… Does this mean I am a…” Saionji thought. “Why did you ask anyway?” Asked Tsuwabuki. “Oh you see, an advice from man to man… If something funny happens after those dreams, remember to not let it influence your life, and keep being yourself forever” advised Saionji. “Okayyy…” Said Tsuwabuki. “Ok I need to go now. Take care of yourself, kouhei” said Saionji and then leaved. “Yeah, you too” said Tsuwabuki.
“This is unacceptable!!!” thought Saionji. “Am I this late… this just cant be true. HAS EVERYONE LAID EGGS BEFORE ME? This is so embarsing, even Nanami got there before me… I really need to look for her” he kept thinking. On his way Saionji met Juri on her way to play bowling. “Oh, Saionji” Juri said. “Hey Juri, where are you going?” asked Saionji. “To play bowling. Say, how about I play with you a game with you?” asked Juri faked smiled. “Sure, why not? But just so you know you have some heavy competition now” Saionji said with pride. “Well, since that’s it, carry my heavy balls and well see if you are some heavy competition” said Juri while passing her balls to Saionji. Saionji took the balls and felt how heavy they are. “So why don’t you take them to the bowling court for me please?” Juri asked. “Piece of cake” lied Saionji. After Saionji has tiredly got to the bowling court with many students on the watch, Juri said “Ok, lets start the match. Oh, I should mention you will be using my balls for this; the court is short on balls”. “Oh really?” Said Saionji with short breathe. “Well, it shouldn’t be a problem for big boy Saionji wouldn’t it, you did carry them to the court for at least five minutes” Juri mentioned. “Well, when you put ti like this, I can defiantly use your balls” said Saionji while trying to look as impressive as he can. Juri was not impressed. “Well shall we start the match then?” asked Juri. “Please no” Saionji thought, but he just nodded his head. During the match, Juri kept getting strikes every turn, while Saionji was barely able to get the ball to roll on the court. The students who watched were very impressed with Juri. “Wow, Juri is so cool”, “Yeah I wish I could date someone as cool as her”, “Oh my gosh, she is so good at this game”, “I wish she would be my lover…” all the girls mentioned while watching the match. Saionji started to get annoyed. “Man, Saionji is so lame”, “Yeah, he keeps losing to Juri”, “Man, this is the guy who we are supposed to look up too?”, “I wouldn’t ever want to hang out with this loser” all the guys mentioned while watching the match. Saionji got even more annoyed.  Juri ended up winning the match. “Oh well, at least you tried your best, Saionji kun”. By this point Saionji was going to lose control. “You did this on purpose, didn’t you?” Saionji said loudly. Juri then answered with a a serious face “Not at all, I just got the recommendation from Akio, he said that seeing me and you together doing bowling may increase even more the popularity of this bowling court”.  “Oh, so youre trying to humiliate me for laying eggs huh?” Saionji whispered.  “Huh, no I honestly thought that you are going to be happy playing this. Really. Not laying” Juri answered. “Why you, that was youre plan, wasent? Now everyone thinks I am stupid, I hope youre happy now Juri” Saionji mentioned on the brink of tears. He then started to leave the bowling court. Some of the guys seemed to Saionji as if they were laughing on him. After he left, Juri said to herdelf quietly “Yes”.
Saionji went back to his house. He felt worthless. “Wow, I really suck don’t I? I lay eggs, ones that aren’t big enough, I laid them too late, and that stupid bitch juri won only because of them. I hate eggs. I hate eggs. I hate eggs. I hate eggs. I hate eggs. I HATE EGGS!” Saionji thought. “Wait, eggs are protein pilled. That is it, I will eat so many eggs, I will become stronger then Juri, I will be able to enter the castle, I will be the best!” Saionji continued his thought thread. “And, to make it better, I will add my own eggs to eat last, to rid myself of my weakness, I will call it plan 34!”.  After Saionji finished his thought thread, he saw a large amount of chickens.
Saionji found himself in the forest cocking eggs. He seemed to do so very seriously until Nanami arrived. “Where is my egg? Saionji do you know where it is?” Nanami asked. Saionji replied “No, but I am making some eggs for me to eat.”. “NOOOO” screamed Nanami. “Did you eat my egg? How could you? You monster!” Nanami screamed while punching Saionji. After punching Saionji, Nanami found her egg in the egg pile. “Oh thank god, my egg! Its safe…” Nanami said before becoming a little eye teared. Saionji seemed to understand Nanami’s thoughts. “Hey, are you okay?” Asked Saionji. “…No” answered Nanami. “Why not?” asked Saionji. “My egg, I was so worried about it, I was just paranoid about, it was just so embarrassing, but you probably wouldn’t understand, would you?” Nanami answered. “Well to tell the truth, I actually did… lay eggs today too” Saionji said to Nanami. “Really, and weren’t you ashamed of them?” asked Nanami. “Well I was, and I still kind of am to be honest, and its kind of stupid too…” answered Saionji. Nanami seemed to be slightly concerned with what happened to Saionji, and started to feel a sense of understanding with what happened. “Well, I think its okay that you lay eggs” Nanami said to Saionji. “Really? That is the first time I ever heard it today. Thank you. Just so you know, I think that the fact you laid an egg is totally okay” Saionji replied, feeling more warmth inside himself. “No its, not, you see, Touga was saying that a woman who lays eggs is a disgrace. I felt so sad when he said that, but you are his friend you probably think like him…” Nanami said. Saionji said to Nanami “Then don’t listen to Touga, he doesn’t understand you’re problems at all, I think that is very wrong of him, and you shouldn’t listen to a guy who thinks like that!”. “But, if I disappoint my brother, who will be there for me. Nobody but him can truly understand me, not after mom and dad…” But before she finished Saionji said slightly blushed “Then settle for me! Even if youre brother dosent understand you, I can be youre second to go. Can you accept it?”.  After a small awkward silence Nanami replied with “Sure.” With a bittersweet smile. “Hey, would you want to dance, just the both of us?” Saionji asked Nanami replied with “I’d like that”. They both danced away in a yellow rose scenery. Saionji then remembered that in his dream a yellow rose fell to the dueling arena and wilted, He hoped that the flowers he sees now wont wilt as the flowers in his dream.
Gougai, Gougai
Oh, my secret, its so embarrassing
What no its not
It is it is!
I told you it is not
It does not matter, as long as my cute pet doesn’t like it, I am doomed.
However, I am okay with it.
Oh look, its my pet. Oh pet let me be with you, don’t ever leave me!
However, what about me? I like you don’t I?
Huh? Who are you?
Wait, didn’t we do this already?
Yeah and mixing two episode elements, that is weak Itavin!
I mentioned to the shadow girls “So sorry…”

Revolutionary Girl Utena Episodes 30-34
Thinking the Next Time I do this, I’m gonna cut down on the reactions thing, and do more a recap after the fact. I should in fact, but for right now i’m just kinda going at it you know.
Came too far and all that. And also, I would like to scrub some of the events in these episodes from my mind because goddamnit they were setting it up for 20 odd episodes and you hoped they wouldn’t and they did and it’s exactly as horrifying (if honestly, put together in such a way that if it wasn’t as uh...Objectively horrifying as it’s played, it’d be a pretty lovely scene I think, but that just makes it worse honestly, cause it is not played as a good thing and yet...) as you’d expect with fuck face mcgee.
Well next time I guess.
Episode 30

And nanami just being the huge bitch here is...what is...
So I looked this up and type b parents should have a type b child. So...Uh.
She's looking mad torn up about this actually. One would think for her banging her older brother ambitions this would be a huge plus but uh...Uhhhhh.

Oh shit. Akio and Anthy and hooooooooooooooooboy nanami ain't taking this well.
I THOUGHT THIS WAS A NANAMI EPISODE. IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE FUN. GOOFS AND GAFFES AND YOU PULL THIS SHIT AT THE END LIKE THIS.

EPIDOSE 32
Nananmi is traumatized as FUCK right now.

CALL THE POLICE NANANMI.
Nanami: You'd be eaten Alive.
She's not wrong but...THE POLICE NANAMI.
….Wait. Would it be fair to call Nanami a third main character....?
Yo touga what the fuck. Just

This is fuuucked.
Why does kanae look so fucking gone.
Anthy keeping utena from walking in on some fucking shit.
Anthy: THANKS FOR ACKNWOLEDGING I TERRIFY YOU.
Nanami in the anthy bed,
NANAMI THANKS FOR SAYING WHAT WE'RE ALL THINKING JUST SAY SOMETHING GOD.
Also, it's like you're a part of each other or something. Given the yinyang thing in the intro I'm wondering.
Nanami, making choices.  Being...Duel time. And a ride in the Akio mobile.
Fuck. Goddamn. Uh..
Why is Nanami the fucking Realist Person on this Show. Like seriously. I'm actually kinda considering her as a third main character, which feels weird but....
Keiko Talks Shit, GOT THE SHIT KICKED OUT OF HER JESUS
SLAPPED ANTHY
Challenged ANTHY to a duel. That's..new.
Nanami just fucking coming out swinging.
Shadow Girls...What...What the fuck is going on....
Did...Did they change the openin? Thing again...no, it's not. Just been a while.
But for real, Nanami is not remotely fucking around in the LEAST. My vibe of Nanami as a third main character is interesting and I'm not sure how to feel about that.
Yo that pose though. Nanami, I wanna the best. Dunk you, dunk my brother, dunk me, I will be the best. Fuck ALL of this hot bullshit though. Fuck it all.
Nanami is whooping Utena's ass right now which is surprising.
I know where those feelings lead.
Oh they're both adopted. And what the FUCK are you two doing on that bed.
Can we just delete Akio.
Episode 33
THEY'RE DROPPING IT AGAIN? PRINCE INFO AGAIN LIKE TWO EPS?
But...none of the animation...Uh...hm
Why is it night.
Pattern broken. Some shit is about to happen isn't it.
Anthy...?
….Uh. Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
SHADOW GIRLS ON THE RADIO?
Also, I didn't want to look at the real ones?
What DOES it mean to be eternal?
It'll work out so long as I don't get caught. YEAH I BET.
STOP STOP STOP I agree.
Wait a minute is this a clips episode.
I think it is. Guess they had to give us a space before the last hell ride.
….What if Green Hair wasn't just talking shit, and whatever he saw
King of Imposters...? That's Akio. Right?
Also, wow Utena.
So, Every Sibling pair is fucked in roughly the same way. Which...Concerns. What's the deal.
And what the FUCK is with Anthy. Saionji, what did you SEEEEEEEE.
...Wait, the teacher is actually important? I mean yeah of course she is. Recurring character. The Teacup...? Forgotten huh...?
What is Eternal: A Diamond, A Beautiful Memory, Canned Peaches
What is Miracles: Edisons Inventions, A Prince, Canned Coelecanth
Oh this dude again.
WHEN DID I START LOSING. Hoo boy. Hooooooboy.
Watching this repeat of everyones duels kinda homes in how much Utena REALLY doesn't seem to understand people. And hasn't changed in the LEAST. At least, nothing particularly dramatic. Which is...uh..hm.
DON'T.
FUCK. FUCK NO.
oh god this mad uncomfrotable.
The food thing....repeats like...4 times...
AaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaSTOP SOTP STOP STOP
GOD FUCKING DAMNIT
In a fucking filler episode they would do this.
Akio just...
Anthy...Anthy did you set this up.
This is mad fucked. I am....not ok.
CAN WE PLEASE DELETE AKIO I BEG YOU.
Just...Why did they change the ending again.
God this is such bullshit.
Episode 34
GOD CAN WE NOT WITH THIS AKIO BULLSHIT.
Oh my god the stars are...
Must you still torture me...? Wh-what. Anthy...?
Oh hey the shadow girls are real.
Showering you with flowers has a terrible meaning now.
Stop that: Anthy to Akio. Uhhhhhhh.
The Shadow Girls...Play...Uh. Huh.
….Um.
A rose Prince...?
A Witch: Cut to Anthy uhhhhhh. Rose....Castle...?
Is...Is anthy the big bad?
Trapped the Prince in the castle.
The Witch is The Princes's Little Sister.
A girl who cannot become a princess is doomed to become a witch.
Uh...Anthy.
Wow, Akio just looks...Tired.
She's still around somewhere in this world :CUT TO ANTHY
oh Touga gonna duel.
I do like that even they're confused as to why they lost.
Shadow Girls...? Again. What was that all about.
Why is anthy's shadow so fucking huge.
Sacrificing Noble Souls huh.
Tiring to be friends with her.
God the dread is no longer here but...uuuuugh.
Anthy, why do you look sad...?
oh shit is this Utena's flashback on the scene.
Dios? Not an Angel of death.
And Utena' walking the same path as him..?
uh....uhhhhhhhhhh..That's a witch. The Rose Bride.
Lives on in agony as punishment for taking away the prince...?
Anthy....? um...
They're calling for the prince...That's a huge crowd.
Anthy sealed away Dios. Oh...
oh shit.
Little Utena noooooo.
The only one who can save her is the prince she believes in.
If you never lose your nobility even when you grow up, you may be able to save her.
May huh.....Does...Anthy remember her...?
Who are you really?
Well fuck shit's worse than I thought.
