Why does this keep happening...

actually with bojack trending it pulled up a clip that reminded me of why i have issues with viv's writing/portrayal of her characters across Hazbin, ADDICT, and Helluva. bojack makes a statement that diane's book about him taught him that "as screwed up" as he is "that's ok" and of course he and diane's convo goes on about how that isn't the case but if "that's all he got out of their friendship" then it isn't a good relationship for either of them. but that first part is what reminded me of a shared criticism i have with many folks of viv's character portrayals across the board, here's my take on it... "they're screwed up and that's ok" feels like the through-line narrative that permeates all of viv's content. and that message in itself is a good one, that no one is perfect and we all make mistakes, that we need to practice empathy as viv has said before. but where bojack follows-through is it never forgives him. you may feel pity or sympathy for the harm he keeps bringing on himself, but ultimately he's held responsible for his mistakes in ways that tear his life apart repeatedly, and even though his trauma led to a lot of his problems, it was still his own decisions and actions that caused his downfall. viv's writing (so far) seems to lack that self-awareness. in Helluva we see brief glimmers of awareness, characters suffering consequence, decisions to be better, moments of growth, but they're often glossed over with a gag or over-turned in the next moment like the character is reset back to square one and didn't actually learn anything. the echoes of set-up are there, but there's rarely any follow-through on them. in ADDICT we're just shown "remember this asshole from the pilot? well he's a victim isn't that sad? : (" and that's it. not to mention merch and art romanticizing his abuser which creates more confusion like "wait are we supposed to find his abuser...cool?". across the board we're given very little reasoning as to why or even if we should like or forgive any of the characters in Hazbin or Helluva. fans who already know the characters will do their own projecting of the creator's intent. fans & general (adult) audience members who are seeing these characters for the first time in their animated debuts are left in the dark which is another way the writing fails. it comes off like we're expected to know everything viv/her crew know about the characters and the "hellaverse" by being in the fandom. reading the comic pages, attending streams, watching viv's twitter, being part of the patreon, reading trivia, etc. to piece together the bigger picture that the crew *should* be writing into the show *if* they want to appeal to a general (adult) audience. if they only want to appeal to their own circle/fandom then sure they can do whatever they want, they/their fans just need to accept that if that's the case, outsiders are going to be confused by no fault of their own. fandom could even welcome outsiders in by running them through the correct order of content, instead we get a lot of "how dare you say that bad faith critique you pos gtfo" attitudes.

PJO Show Thoughts. Episode 7: We find out the truth (not)

Alright. I just don't even know. I thought the pacing was marginally better here. Scenes flowed nicer. And I thought the dialogue wasn't so useless.

Literally right off the fucking BAT, the first words in the episode are percy explaining exactly what's going to happen, who crusty is, no shenanigans, no mystery, no fun villain scene, nothing. oh my FUCKING GOD, it's every good scene THEY RUIN IT its CRAZY. ACTUALLY CRAZY.

It's the same shit every episode. Oh, fun monster scene where the monster tries to trick them and the fight builds while we figure out who the monster is???? NOPE!!! it's actually complete bullshit. it's ridiculous. where's rick????

overall, I really shouldn't be spending so much of my limited free time writing these long posts about the episodes, when I have been getting well, not a whole lot of pleasure watching them. but these characters are still my babies, and I will continue to support the making of the show even though it's blowing chunks. Isabeau is soooo perceptive I luv him. my aversion to the crush has gotten slightly better the more Siffrin is reciprocating it and the less I'm thinking of Siffrin as Guy I'm Playing As (the more I think of them as A Character and not An Avatar, is what I mean). so I'm growing to appreciate him a lot more he's my fave guy. truly so cool. I get him. if nobody got me I know my man isabeau got me. he's my best friwnd.

6. fuck okay where was i. anyway everyone's reacting differently the more time passes and I think it's bc Siffrin is having such an astronomically bad fucking time it's transcending time. i feel like if I were in a room with them I'd just DIE I'd just say fuck this stupid baka life and drop to the ground and never move again from how rancid their vibes are. Siffrin is having the worst time anyone's ever had and I feel so sorry for him I hope I can at the very least lead him well enough he'll TALK to ANYONE(other than loop) about ANYTHING or else.

Was hoping the Echo and Crosshair convo would carry on this episode but oh well.

Also, we never saw Tech and Wrecker apologise to each other. 🥲

Overall feeling about this episode is that I think it might be one of my least favourites of the season. I didn't dislike it but with how good the others have been, this episode didn't stand out a whole lot to me.

There were specific moments that I absolutely love though! Wholesome Batch moments just hit me right in the feels. 🥲

And Wrecker's "I'm working on it" reminded me of Echo in Season 1. 😭 I still miss that man.

Weirdly, I don't feel like I have much to say about this episode right now. There's some more stuff delving into the idea of kids not being able to just be kids in this galaxy, so I'm happy they're continuing on that narrative. I maybe would've liked to have seen a little bit more from the other miners? I don't know.

Normally when I watch an episode, one or two particular things sticks out to me as something I want to talk about more but I didn't really get that much from this episode. Think I may just have to sit on it for a few days and see what comes to mind.

Still liked the episode, but I definitely think that the first half of this two-parter was much stronger. Very excited to see what Metamorphosis is going to be about though! My hope is to see Echo and Rex again, but that's more wishful thinking than me believing it's actually going to happen. 😅

Edit: This was supposedly a breather episode, so that may explain why it fell a little flat for me. I think I got really hooked up in the more high-stakes episodes and that swayed my judgement on this one. 🤔

Random Battletech Storybuilding Thing

So, I've been doing this storybuilding thing on a forum, and it's been generating good convo, but I'm greedy and want more so I'm bringing it here.

The original concept was "what happens if via some unexplained space magic, the Star League era Terran Hegemony is ISOTed to March 7th 2050, IE as the Clan invasion begins?"

(going for a total replacement, BTW, although we're willing to handwave certain things for more fun)

This was followed by several specific timeframes for the ISOT to come from. As we've gone on, we've added to that list, and also discussed the ISOT occurring slightly earlier, specifically to shortly after the end of the Fourth Succession War.

So, the list of potential eras:

The Hegemony during the reign of Ian Cameron, just prior to the Reunification War

The Hegemony during the reign of Ian Cameron, right after the Reunification War

The Hegemony during the reign of Jonathan Cameron some time prior to the Second Hidden War

The Hegemony during the reign of Jonathan Cameron, right after the Second Hidden War, when Jocasta Cameron was acting as De Facto First Lord

The Hegemony during the reign of Simon Cameron, shortly before embarking on his tour of the Star League.

The Hegemony under the reign of Regent and Protector of the Realm Aleksandr Kerensky.

The Hegemony during the reign of Richard Cameron in early 2766, as RWA troops are being brought in to replace SLDF forces being sent to the Periphery, but before they've had a chance to settle in.

The Hegemony in early 2767, a few months after Amaris' coup

The Hegemony in late 2767, a year after Amaris' coup

The Hegemony in 2779, following the conclusion of Operation LIBERATION

That's twenty potential scenarios. As a result, the convo has been pretty scattershot, jumping from one to the other, and we probably should just pick one but every time we seem to have done so, someone thinks of something cool to discuss or that could happen in one of the others.

Anyways, what do y'all think? Which of these scenarios do you think is most interesting? What outcomes do you think are most likely? Which aspects of whichever scenario do you think are most interesting to explore? What do you think the Inner Sphere looks like, come 3160? Etc. Etc. Etc.

Some random thoughts and ideas:

-In all scenarios, the Periphery states all are going to have to assume that they're looking down the barrel of Reunification War II, right? Even if it isn't likely to actually happen.

-In all scenarios ComStar has been decapitated. What does the remainder do?

-In all scenarios, all of the Successor States have lost a big chunk of their territory, and FedCom in particular has been cut in half.

-In all scenarios, if the Hegemony attempts to recreate the Star League, what status is offered to nations that didn't exist the first time around? Do Rassalhague, St. Ives, etc. get to be full Member States, or are they stuck being Territorial States?

-For Scenario 2, does Ian Cameron would have died in five years. Does he have it in him to try to rebuild the Star League again?

-For Scenario 3, Jonathan Cameron is going to be trying to launch Reunification War II ASAP.

-For scenarios 3 & 4, if one chooses to imagine that Jonathan Cameron's night terrors were prophetic in nature, perhaps he stops dreaming about the Hegemony being invaded by the Periphery, and instead dreams of near-alien warriors from beyond the inner Sphere, or cyborg fanatics?

-In Scenarios 6, 7 & 10, keep in mind Jerome Blake is now present. That's certainly gonna shake things up, even if he's only 12 in Scenario 6.

-For scenario 7, sooner or later, either due to panic or news of what would have happened circulating, the RWA and SLDF are gonna have it out; AIUI, even though Operation APOTHEOSIS was quite possibly the most perfectly executed military action in human history, there were several moments where the SLDF almost managed to turn it around. Here, with less preparation, less of a numbers advantage, and probably less coordination, the RWA doesn't stand a chance, but they'll go down hard, and give the SLDF a bloody nose.

-For scenario 7, AIUI, marriage, fatherhood, and no longer being 18 changed Richard Cameron, making him realize he'd been a fuckup and causing him to start working on being a better man and a better Star Lord, hence his burgeoning friendship with John Davion. Popular history entirely ignores this, and remembers him as the petulant child who tried to bully the Council Lords he was at 18. Imagine the House Lords of 3030 or 3050 expecting to have to deal with space Joffrey Lannister, instead finding themselves faced with a man who's actually willing to listen to reason?

-For Scenarios 8 & 9, on paper, Amaris can take on the entire Inner Sphere. But can he do that AND keep his boot on the Hegemony? Not to mention, does he want to, or is punishing the Hegemony enough for him? Meanwhile, while he kept a pretty tight grip on information, something THIS crazy is too big to keep secret, I think, and at the very least, his own people are going to about what history says happened. Are his troops going to remain loyal, knowing that he's going to become a mad tyrant, and that by invading the Hegemony they condemned their homeworlds to being gobbled up by the Lyrans?

-For Scenario 10, if we assume the worlds that had been occupied by the Member-States came along, what happens to them and the forces doing the occupying.

The deconstruction of Nick Fury continues. Much of his professional success was apparently due to the advantage of having a team of shapeshifters at his disposal, of which SHIELD knew nothing about

Skrulls don't just get long term memories thanks to those contraptions they stuff the people they imitate in but also, apparently, feelings, because I don't think the kid was a Skrull, which means "Bob" cared for his wellbeing like his real father would. And I'm guessing they had already established this and the characters know, otherwise Fury wouldn't have threatened the boy

Fury keeps saying nobody calls him Nick but there are at least 4 or 5 documented instances of friends/allies calling him Nick.

CBS Ghosts - Hello! - Ghost Thing

LMAO - A) Sam did tell Jay that he had do something with the hole - might I suggest actually fixing it?

BUT INSTEAD OF FIXING IT, he covers it up with the Portrait of Elias.

Hetty's like "NO THIS IS SANCTUARY, REMOVE IT AT ONCE" - which naturally Jay can't hear - Poor Hetty, I'm sure Sam heard about it instantly.

LOL - at Jay saying "you're welcome" and then just being like - yeah, it's totally fixed. I wonder how long it took before Hetty interrupted Sam/Isaac on the whole book thing.

Also, all of the ghosts are just - cool, we're good now?

Isaac wastes no time. He's like "OOOOh" chance to get the book on a roll when it's been all of like an hour? And Damn, Isaac, let her chat with her husband, she's already doing you a favor.

I wonder why Sam agreed to start doing this already when she HAS to be exhausted.

Awww Poor Jay. He's already being excluded. She could at least mention what the book idea is. I wonder if he just went to watch TV and wondered if the other ghosts were watching, too.

I just feel like they should have more of convo about everything - I want to hear Sam tell Jay about the different new people in their lives. Although does she know their names? Obviously, she's learned Isaac's name at this point.

Small note - I wish that I could type with the laptop on my lap, but I always need a hard surface. At least she's not typing on a ladder anymore.

I do like the obvious tidbits about Isaac with this. He didn't sleep with his wife (even though there's a statement in Halloween that suggests that he had to have to have kids - although maybe that was a lie since technically Hetty says it not Isaac - maybe he just never corrected them). It's interesting that he MAY have one child or he may not It's also interesting that he a Beatrice have a good relationship (noted by her changing him in the Christmas Episode while he's on his death bed).

Anyway, it's interesting that he tells a lie "Keep the flame of our passion burning bright" - it seems like even 246 years later, he still feels the need to lie.

Chapter 18

1) Liberation Army is actually 再興軍 - Reconstruction/revival army.

Ike doesn't add "Put on a funny hat or something?", only "What should I do?"

While Ike's in-game class becomes "Lord", Elincia actually grants him the title of "Knight". The same word as in "Black Knight".

2) Misattributed to Ike on Serenes, but both "Once we cross that great wall" and "Look there" paragraphs belong to Tanith. Not a mistranslation, since it seems to be correct in the game.

3) EN!Tanith: "You see, a plague had struck the capital, spreading out to affect the surrounding region of Nevassa and beyond. […] In the entire history of Tellius, no calamity has claimed the lives of so many beorc and laguz -- not since the great flood. Two years before, it struck Begnion, and the entire population of Serenes was nearly obliterated. The year after that, close to a thousand beorc -- nobles and peasants alike -- perished in Daein."

I think it's not an error exactly, but a bad choice to phrase it as if she was talking about the epidemic both times, but she only says that those unrelated events happened one after another and many beorc and laguz died in quick succession, which never happened outside of war since the great flood.

Same base convo has a small clarification on the Daein/Begnion relations and a remark on the former king.

EN!Tanith: Begnion and Daein both keep close watch over their borders, and their patrols fought in many skirmishes. Although there was no war to speak of, these land disputes did end with Daein claiming a small portion of Begnion soil.

JP!Tanith: Begnion and Daein had clashed with each other many times over territorial expansion. During the reign of the former King of Daein, who was of a relatively mild nature, they had carved out a piece of Begnion territory, albeit only a small one…

4) Pre-battle convo. The original conveys a somber/resolute mood, while the translation made Ike flippant. Particularly this part feels like a bad choice.

EN!Ike: There's no need to look so worried. We're well prepared. And we've got you as our good luck charm. EN!Elincia: Thank you for that, but… Do be careful, my lord Ike.

JP!Ike: Don't look so anxious, keep a cool head. You are the banner of this army. JP!Elincia: I know that. But… Lord Ike……

5) Pre-battle, Shinon doesn't say "You'll know it soon enough". In fact, he says absolutely nothing.

There are no significant changes in his boss/recruitment conversations, except Boyd doesn't explicitly wish him dead.

Post-battle, the translation implies that Shinon and Ike have another fight right away. Originally, I don't think that's the case. Shinon says "…The next time we fight, if I win, I'll get the commander position, agreed?" Ike agrees, but nothing indicates that this fight happens at all.

6) Ike talking to Nasir has interesting vibes that are slightly different.

EN!Nasir: Use what you've been given, and great things will happen. You have it in you to lead, Ike. JP!Nasir: People grow according to the vessel they are given. You are [given] the vessel of a general, Ike.

EN!Ike: "If you treat others in good faith, they will follow you of their own volition." That's what he taught me. JP!Ike: He taught me that if you live being true to yourself, people will naturally follow.

He's a douche. He's a terrible friend, he mistreats Rig.by like.

A lot.

I'm not gonna sit here and say Rig.by is like... perfect or an innocent angel, but it's a little unfair. He's smaller and he is a victim of incredibly harsh punches, he gets left in the dirt everytime he finds a new girl to obsess over and he calls off arrangements for hangouts they've had for dayssss just because he has a thing for a girl, and he literally killed him once. Obviously Mor.decai doesn't know how much this affects rig.by and I feel like Twi.light would happily try to solve their friendship problem which is probably how this would start.

I like to imagine their ship would start when the Cuti.e mar.k map is a thing. The map would probably call her to a place outside of Equestrian territories, and she'd go because the map is calling specifically her. I think the map would call her specifically because it is a friendship issue about miscommunication and neglect, which is something twiley is very.. guilty of??? (cough cough, her entire friendgroup she ditched and moon.dancer...) So I feel as though it would be something she is very well versed on; and knows how neglecting a friendship and the feelings of your friends can have it deteriorate at the seams, also she is the princess of friendship and she's like good at what their friendship is struggling with so I feel like if anyone should be called to help them deal with the issue it would be her???

I feel like there would be a joke where mord.ecai and rig.by meet her and Mor.decai offhandedly mentions that he's afraid of unicorns and she'd be like 'actually I'm an alicorn!' and then he'd be like 'Oh cool' and thats be the end of that gag

Um, I feel like she'd show up at the park and see them slacking on their job and help them do it bc she thinks she's doing some benevolent nice thing helping them w their work (shes not getting paid for it, and she's a neat freak anyways so I feel like she would anyways to help get stress of their shoulders) and like morde.cai and rigs would realize that she's like really good for them to have around. Rigs would probably say smth like 'dude she can do all our work' and mords would be like ' dude that's not cool we're not gonna put all our work on this horse'

I feel like Mords would be more mature abt her presence so she'd talk to him more. Since she's staying until the friendship issue is resolved she'd probably automatically wanna... stay the night at a local library??? like how she does in a certain movie

Mords would like. Start to like her friend her talking and her sweet demeanor and likeeee... when he likes a girl he starts lying so he'd probably tell her he LOVES books (He hardly ever reads...) But she believes him so she invites him to hang out and discuss books of their choice at the local library so theres a sideplot where Mords is like panicking abt how he doesn't know what book to pick since he doesn't...... read books. And he starts researching random books trying to find a right one that is easy to sum up in a convo so he won't look like a fat liar in front of her, all the while bc of this the friendship problem is probably getting worse bc now he's focusing on trying to find a interesting good book or come up w a lie to make it seem like he's an avid book reader to impress this girl he just met and he's kinda. ignoring rigs and twiley eventually finds out both of these things and chews him out for and theres like an arc where they're arguing and apart and mad at eachother but then mords realizes he's being a total douche to his best friend bc he's focusing on her instead and thats what she's mad abt, not the book thing- and theres like a whole character arcc growwth and............ blah blah blah.......

I feel like being around rigs and mords would be good for her bc she's a princess (she wouldn't mention that out of fear it would make them change how they treat her, bc lets be honest it affects how everyone treats her, even her friends in the show at times) and she just wants to be a friend to them both, the boys would teach her how to actually let loose and relax and not worry-247 they'd teach her how to slack and she'd teach them how to lock in, I think it'd be very nice and healthy positive for both sides. I feel like if they found out she's a princess rigs would definitely be weird about it but mords would like ask why she didn't say so sooner and theres this whole trauma dump arc where she explains how she raised a dragon while she was a foal ontop of her studies and how she was thrown into the princess thing w/o preparation or anything and mords and rigs would be... horrified???

Summary - Reader loses her diary and has to go on a search for it.

Where was it?

WHERE WAS IT?

Now, I didn't like to refer to my personal notes as a diary, I prefer journal. But the point is, it was missing.

Missing from the small compartment under my bed where I had hid it. Not that I expected anyone to take it, but it calmed my anxiety so I did what I could.

The journal looked just like my sketch book, I did this on purpose so that people wouldn't question why I had it out and was writing in it on occasion. They would just think I'm sketching per usual. But I made sure to keep good track of it, because I truly *did* have very personal information in there, like any journal would. So at this point, I'm frantically running around asking my dorm mates if they had seen it. First asking Hermione and Parvarti because they knew of the book. Then asking Ginny Weasley and Sophie Roper.

They had all claimed to have not seen it.

So I rushed down to the common room. Checking the side tables, under the couch, on the fireplace mantle. But it was useless, I *know* I closed it in the compartment 2 days ago. I remember it distinctly because I had written a rather private thing in it that day, and I wanted to stop thinking about how it made me feel.

*Potions, one of my least favorite classes for a few reasons. (Maybe because we had it with the snooty Slytherins or maybe because Severus Snape taught the wretched class, who's to say.) But there was one thing that made the class shine for me despite the things I hated about it.*

*George Weasley.*

*Somehow we had managed to be partners for this potion by random. Much to Snapes disliking. But he had to let it go since the picking was truly random.*

*"Today we will be making the Babbling Beverage, does anyone know what this potion does?" Snape asked in his usual monotone voice. A slytherins hand shot up from the back, explaining that it makes you speak uncontrollable nonsense. George leaned across the table to me.*

*"Guess it wouldn't change much for you then, huh?" He laughed, leaning back into his seat with a shit-eating grin.*

*And that's what sparked me to write in my journal. I felt I had to do it immediately, so I did. I whipped it from my bag and held it in my left hand, not laying it on the table where he could see.*

*"What are you writing?" He asked, trying to peak at it.*

*"I'm drawing you Bimbo!" I laughed but that's not even close to what I was doing.*

**I really thought this was only the stuff you could read about, this feeling. A laugh has never brought louder music to my ears, and that smile, I feel like I've never seen him smile like that. He never fails to bring a shining moment to my day. I hope that I make him feel this way sometimes. The tightness in my chest, the way my heart feels like it's having palpitations because its beating so damn fast. Or the way I think he's just so perfect. I sound like such a teenager gosh.**

*I never used names in the thing just in case someone ever got a hold of it.*

*"Why don't you ever let me see your drawings?" He pouted, grabbing at the book and nearly having a hold of it. I snatched it from him quickly.*

*"Because I'm still learning and I don't like them very much." I lied, holding the book to my chest.*

*"I bet they look fine." He muttered with another pout before going to grab ingredients.*

After I decided there was no use in panicking, I took some deep breaths. I had to get to Potions soon, I could talk to George about this and vent to him about the stress I was under at the moment. I grabbed my Potions book from my side table and headed that way.

To keep me distracted by what I felt like were prying eyes in the corridors, (which no one was probably looking at me, that's paranoia for you) I flipped through my sketch book. I flipped through it all the way to the potions door. But one step in and I had nearly dropped it.

George sat, tipping his chair back with what I was positive was *my* journal. He looked deep in thought, his right index finger dragging down one of the pages to read it. I recovered my sketches and stomped over to him, alerting him of my presence. He stood from the seat, holding the book from my reach.

"When did you take that?!" I tried to express my concern quietly so no one would but in on the convo, my arms crossed over my chest.

"Technically I didn't take it." He replied in a cocky manner. "Sophie got it for me."

"But I hid it! That damn girl, I knew she was being suspicious. Give it back, now Weasley, I'm not playing." I held my hand out for it.

"Not until you tell me who you fancy." My face paled, he had read some of it that little snot. That made me quite scared, I did not want him knowing that.

"George it's just ramblings that I come up with, like short stories."

"These sound pretty realistic to me." For a second there his face seemed hurt, but I will have to look over it considering the situation I'm in currently. He brought it to his eye level, still to where I couldn't reach it, and flipped through pages to find one where I write something lovey. "How about, 'He made me laugh so hard I nearly choked today, how does he do it? Do girls seriously not see the charm in this man? I sure do.'" He flipped more, reaching a sufficient page clearly.

"Or, or this one. 'I like him so much I want to be part of his family. Have you ever liked someone so much you *want* to meet their family. I want to be a Weasley-'"

You've got to be kidding. You've **got** to be kidding.

I must have gotten so caught up with writing it that I just let a name slip. Why would I do that. My hand was clasped over my mouth firmly and George was still holding it eye level, seeming to read it silently. I sat in my seat and put my head on the table so I didn't have to watch anymore.

I figured this would happen this way, it wouldn't be me directly telling him. But I thought I would cry, because the thought if it happening made me cry. But I was actually just scared and embarrassed. Scared of rejection and embarrassed that it happened like this.

I heard the book lay next to me softly on the table and the seat across from me scoot out.

"I'm going to get the ingredients for today." He said quietly. I could see his feet walk away from my view under the table. My head was brought up, grabbing the journal and shoving it into my bag shamefully. He came back with small jars and measuring spoons.

"I didn't mean for her to grab your diary you know." He confessed, not looking me in the eye. "I was trying to get her to grab your sketch book. I wanted to see your sketches. But I'm guessing the books look the same so she grabbed the wrong one. I'm sorry for reading it, that was personal." He was fiddling with his hands, his key sign of nervousness, I could tell he meant his apology.

"Its okay, I would have done the same thing if I had yours." I chuckled, trying to relieve the tension in the air. That brought a smile to his face, finally looking me in the eye.

"So, do you have a crush on Fred?" He asked, his face cringing slightly.

He's kidding right? Surely he's not that dumb. My eyebrows furrowed probably as far as they could.

"What?" Was all I could get out. I could not believe this idiot right now.

"Well I hope it's not Ron, that would be a little weird I think, and surely it's not me."

"Yes it is!" I protested back pressingly.

"Its Ron?!" His face was horrified now.

"No you dimwit! It's you! Merlin are you dumb! Georgie you're all I write about in here nearly, look." I pulled the book out again, flipping to a random page. "I taught him how to braid today, he told me he didn't know how and I told him I was perfect to practice on. He's actually quite good at it, I think he knew how to braid. For a moment there he was just playing with my hair and I thought that I might just blackout, it was a dream." It was from a night in the common room. "Or, more proof. 'The boy was sitting across from me on the couch in front of the fireplace today. It was perfect to draw, or at least try. The sketch is kind if shit but I can tell its him and now it think I'll look at it every day because I loved that moment.'"

George's face looked so happy. It was another one of those smiles that drove me mad, but I guess everything about him drove me mad, didn't it?

"You really feel that way about me?"

"Of course I do. I thought it was obvious. And I'm sorry to spring it on you like this."

"Well I certainly was too much of a wuss to do it myself." He said with a nervous smile.

"You mean, you feel the same way?" There's absolutely no way.

"Well of course." He said, as if it was the most casual and obvious thing in the world. "Do you see me act the way I do around you with anyone else. Braiding anyone else's hair, trying to stay calm and collected and seem cool around anyone else."

"Well that's because we're best friends."

"But is that the case for either of us?" And he was right. We only acted this way around eachother because we were hopelessly pining for one another, without even knowing it. And it was consistently working.

"Well aren't we just the perfect pair." I said with a giggle, pouring ingredients in the cauldron for the first time in 10 minutes.

"Are we a pair now?" He asked with a cheesy smile.

"Is this your way of asking me out Weasley?"

"Maybe."

"Then yes, we *are* a pair."

jess- 7/10 my trainer!!! v v nice, I think she's a lesbian? idk she has a puppy and let me pet it when she brought it in on her off day once. points off bc I almost never see her anymore bc I work on weekends only . come back mom

christina- 6/10 we're cool n she's newer than me but I just don't feel like I could carry on a convo with her? not in a bad way I'm just. We have different vibes I think

charkissa- 8/10 went to orientation w me, we talk and joke a lot but again, I don't see her too much. very friendly with everyone and drove me to work when she saw I was walking in the heat one time <3

richard- 6.5/10 omg he recognized my fnf songs as my alarms and he's into fnf as well! !! I was :O (he recognized zavodila and stress),,,, now I'm hoping he'll recognize my hank costume when I wear it 4 halloween.....

ame (uh-mee)- 5.5/10 gave me weird vibes at first but he just wants to seem friendly !! I like talking to him bc he seems like a guy who genuinely doesn't judge you for stuff. Plus he wears a neat little cap sometimes hohoe

amy- 7/10 she's SO funny, she loves screwing around with the regulars and with her coworkers (all friendly banter ofc), has a mischievous side to her as well! she gives off extreme wine aunt energy (and probably is one tbh, in the best way possible)

mike/alonso- 6/10 the only other minors alongside me that work there, they're pretty chill! I like working with them :)

ashley- 6.5/10 she's shorter than me yet she's one of my managers I think that's so funny tbh /lh. she's very sweet! calls people hun and stuff and gives off big sister vibes,, some customers have smack talked about her sometimes and says she's a little too sweet? like to the point she seems cocky? idk people are so cynical sometimes

matt- 7.5/10 shoutout to this mf. As he's one of my managers, I always seem to bother him the most when I needed a supervisor to give me numbers to check out alcohol/cigarettes. he's chill and always sports this man bun, also likes joking around but it's not prominent.

nicholas- 8/10 we just started actually talking today! he's v friendly and he's pretty well-versed in video games for the age he is (no offense to 23-yr-olds) also is in a band. he's funny and is also good at math...

zion- 9/10 this dude is teaching me how to do some cool scanning gun tricks, like flipping it in my hand and stuff, also reeeally funny and specifically we like to pick on each other bc yeah. very jolly dude! also was coworkers w my dad when he used 2 work at my store

i finally saw ep1!! i wont be able to see ep2 until thursday at the earliest but i already have some Thots on this ep. here are the ones I remember

first is, and i'm so sorry for this, a grammar lesson. an appositive is when you stick an additional phrase in between commas, dashes, or the like. i actually just used one! the "and i'm so sorry for this" in the first sentence of this paragraph is an appositive. thing is, most english speakers don't normally use them when they speak, only in writing. so i'm always on high alert whenever i hear somebody in tv or movies use one. (it's generally a marker of bad screenwriting). anyway there was one right in the beginning of the episode. the white army guy yelling at sam wilson said "first lieutenant Torres, our intel officer, will be helping on the ground." yeah so. the writing of this series started out on the wrong foot for me. but the rest of the episode was obviously tons and tons better (every interview i see with malcolm spellman makes me love him more and more)

the contrast between the opening minutes (falcon action sequence) and the rest of the ep.... i would 100000/10 rather watch a series with just sam and bucky dealing with life. i dont give a single crap about the flag-smashers or any of that. i just want sam, sarah & fam getting their boating business back on the ground & yeeting racist dickwads, bucky going through therapy and making amends, sam and joaquin being bros, sambucky homoerotic tension, etc.

the cinnamontography! wandavision mostly used cinematography to signify era n stuff. tfatws doesn't have wv's premise to go off of, so here's some tricks i noticed:

with sam there's obviously all sorts of shots with the captain america iconography next to his face, but he hasn't totally claimed it. there's the mural of steve rogers in the background; there's sam staring into the shield like it's a spectre of steve's face; there's sam looking into the exhibit, the shield and sam separated by glass and a layer of camera focus. steve is a constant spectre, always there, an idea, a symbol himself. sam's relationship with this iconography is distanced. he is separated by glass exhibit walls. by painting canvases. he doesn't yet feel worthy to take on that iconography. this whole thing was pulled off quite well but also a bit on-the-nose if only in quantity. there's just sooooo much fancy iconography stuff

speaking of the exhibit, there's something that i get real pissy about. it's when like, there's an action going on you're supposed to be paying attention to but the cinematographer is like,,,, hey! check out this location! or this headline! or something! there was a lot of that in the exhibit. the camera was like, you could focus on sam and rhodey's convo (which was fine but could have been so much better with an extra like 10 minutes of deep character study talk) but noooo you want me to look at the symbol for the united nations and read all the text about bucky who hasn't even showed up yet. shut up i know the lore and ill watch the shot-by-shot breakdown yt vids you don't have to make the shot this long jkdsalcjklasejf

my fav trick was with bucky and the therapist. i had seen a clip of the scene with bucky and the therapist beforehand and i thought the cinnamontography was super obnoxious, but then i was like, oh duh. the shots frequently change the distance between the camera and its subject. sometimes it's uncomfortably close and sometimes it's really far. a clear allegory for the duality of therapy, esp for bucky! therapy is an invasive process wherein he is ruthlessly examined, picked apart, and berated for his trauma (this therapist is crap in every way btw, "mean therapist" works for greg house and greg house only). so the camera goes close. it makes the viewer claustrophobic like bucky. but when he's like "no i haven't had any nightmares" the camera suddenly goes really far. we see bucky as this tiny head in the center of the bottom of the frame. we are distanced from him. he has pushed us away. we cannot see him. he lies because he is vulnerable. so yeah, amazing work there. the therapy scene was hard to watch on purpose!

did bucky slip a note to yori inside the dollar bill? bucky stop making me emooooo. the suuper awkward fake smile has me 😭 (veteran trying to adjust!)

just saw ep2 so im taking advantage of the 2 seconds i can be on tumblr without worrying about tfatws spoilers before new episode drops

when isaiah said "your people put me in prison for being a hero" and bucky thought "your people" means hydra. 🤦‍♂️

speaking of racism, the interplay between sam being Black (anti-Black racism) and sam being the Falcon (negrophilia, "can i take a selfie w you as i deny you a loan?") and the intersection between the two (j*hn lichrally called sam "steve's wingman"! he takes the crypto out of crypto-racist in like 2 seconds!) !!!!!!!! a Black celebrity's Black experience, the separation of man and identity!!!! (thinking about vanessa bayer in snl in that skit "beyonce is black" telling her black friend "you're not black, you're...my girl!")

after sam gets racially profiled by cops we see j*hn standing in front of cop cars cinematic parallels turns out j*hn is racist who knew

this therapist sucks major ass but she got bucky and sam together in the same room and ready to collaborate...that's something ig. it was lichrally couple's therapy she said she used her miracle exercise with couples sambucky antis get blended

bucky says "he was wrong about you so maybe he was wrong about me"...that's not how people talk. when therapist asks bucky, the guy who doesn't talk at all about himself, "y do you hate sam", the last thing bucky's gonna do is actually connect his hatred of sam to his own self-worth issues. bucky generally refuses to talk about himself, so why would he talk about himself in the one context that nobody ever links back to their own neuroses: hatred of other people? one thing human beings hate most is admitting we're wrong. admitting you hate someone because of your own issues? that's a major therapeutic step. bucky would absolutely have to be prompted to do that. even like one or two lines of dialogue more would have set up that line better. but in terms of the actual thought? an amazing way to take the sam/bucky relationship. bucky bases his self-worth on steve believing in him, and if steve is wrong bucky has no self-worth, so 1) he has to develop self-worth disassociated from steve's assessment of him and 2) he has to love himself before he can love sam, and 3) he has to realize that sam giving up the shield is a sign of sam's humility not his unworthiness.

conversely, we don't get into why sam hates bucky? yeah sam has the right to hate a guy that has tried to kill him (albeit while brainwashed) multiple times, and now shows up in his life just to bash him but. everything happens so fast i cant follow their relationship

in fact i dont feel like i understood much of anything. like y did bucky and sam go on that mission together? how connected are sam/bucky/joaquin with the government? doesn't bucky just want to retire now? literally what is everyone doing/feeling and why???

if battlestar becomes a knowing commentary on the black best friend stereotype i'm gonna party, but i dont expect much of that

the interplay between man and symbol. captain america is obviously a symbol. the shield is obviously a symbol. but steve rogers? the. man behind the cowl? he too seems to become a symbol. a paragon of a good guy, so good he's unreachable. steve was just a guy stop idolizing him the last thing steve would want is to be idolized

TFATWS WA #1

Don't worry about getting this to me as early as possible. I usually don't watch the episode right away.

1. Cool writing lesson.

2. Everyone wants a comedy show [like Friends] about the MCU superheroes.

3. Cinematography is always a beautiful thing.

4. Sam definitely has to carve his own Captain America status for himself, outside of Steve's ya know everything.

5. They have to do that for people who was just now tuning in because they're in love with Sam Wilson or Sharon Carter.

6. I think the therapist was taking a 'tough love' approach for Bucky, because she likely has some very strong opinions about the literal assassin she's been assigned to give therapy too. She did not choose to talk to him, she was assigned that make that clear in the second episode.

And, Bucky isn't lying when he said it wasn't a nightmare. It wasn't a nightmare, it was a resurfaced memory. So, technically he wasn't lying - and yes, the camera does move away because while he's saying he didn't have a nightmare, he's not expanding on what actually happened - so, he's still pushing the therapist/us away.

7. Bucky, and Steve, have/had a TON to adjust to.

Yeah, always got to take advantage of avoiding those spoilers lmfaoo.

1. Honestly, that line was double meaning. Both about White people and Hydra [which is made up of mostly white supremacists/nazis] So, the line is gesturing to both White People in general and Hydra assholes together. I think the terminology is “double edge sword”??

2. This whole paragraph structure confused me, ngl - so I'm going to answer it the best I can. I do like that they're not ignoring the fact that Sam being Black is 1000% the reason he's not the Official Captain America - because the gov't is racist as hell.

I also like the little lines about how they point out little things about Sam's Falcon persona, like that kid calling him 'Black Falcon' specifically and Sam's response show the split between Sam and Falcon itself.

John is a dick for calling Sam the wingman of Steve Rogers. Sam was a hero all on his own before Steve asked him to join up again. [Side note, it's lichrally??]

3. Exactly, the parallel of Sam being profiled and surrounded while just on the street and John being surrounded by fans and being able to spring Bucky with apparently only a few sentences shows a Loooooot

4. Honestly, at this point I wonder if she's not actually a therapist and is just an agent assigned to assess Bucky outside of an Official Building. I do know, however, that her 'look at each other and speak' exercise is actually a real therapy practice. It's just a little slower.

5. Actually, I think he would've blurted that out. That whole line. I don't think Bucky hates Sam. I think they could've done the scene better, but I think that had Sam prodded him/the therapist been more annoying Bucky would've lost control of his emotions and blurted out the whole "If he was wrong about you, he was wrong about me" but I feel like the writing for this show is just... not there. Sometimes you blurt shit when you get overemotional and I think that was what Bucky was supposed to be like.

6. I don't think Sam hates Bucky, I think he doesn't trust him though. I do wish they'd talked about that though. The whole 'talk to each other' scene should've been a LOT longer and a LOT slower.

7. Sam and Bucky's relationship is being fast tracked because they don't really know how to work the relationship out, writers-room-wise. Bucky is technically retired, but I feel like he's trying to live up to Steve's expectations and doing what Steve would've done and we all know that if Steve was there, Steve would've jumped on that plane with Sam. It looks like Sam/Bucky/Joaquin are a side-team based from Military services but as Sam says they're all free agents so...?

8. Sadly, They seem to just be propping up to be another stereotype.

9. Captain America is a symbol. Steve Rogers is a man. But now Steve Rogers is an idol because of all the shit he's been through and honestly, it's not a bad thing he's become an idol for people - it's using Steve as a reason to make White Bread Walker the next Captain that makes Steve's idolization so fucked.

10. I don't know anything about music so I have no opinion here, sorry.

11. Enfys?? Also, I think they did the whole Innocent Girl Thing as side commentary for Bucky lowering his guard about seeing a young girl rather than a guy.

12. Bucky is the Winter Solider. The Winter Solider is Bucky. That is how Bucky will always see it because although he was brainwashed, it was still him and he remembers all of it. When you have constant memories of something 'someone else' did, you tend to not be able to pull the two personas out of each other. I want Bucky to take up the title, White Wolf instead of Winter Soldier. Honest.

This is all my opinion, I’m honestly a little disappointed with the writing of TFATWS so far so... I’m not really optimistic about this.

1. fugio

the first scenario that popped into my head is that Fugo and Giorno go to the same university (for some reason Gio's parents can afford to send him there, idk he probably got financial aid or sth, and then after he killed them (😳 awkwardddd) he's probably using their life insurance in fear of it running out). and Fugo doesn't really care for Gio bc he's a rich boye and he has his quality™️ elite friend circle so why bother himself w a nobody. but in reality all of Fugo's friends are either only on a social level (u know those ppl who you're friends w but u won't necessarily have deep convos w them or choose to hang out w them n stuff), or they're fake and only hang out w him bc of his wealth & status, or bc their rich parents are friends. plus (im referring to the anime backstory here), after the scandal w that professor who sexually harassed him, many ppl secretly hate him and talk shit abt him behind his back due to homophobia.

but anyway, Fugo's plotting against all those biches :) so where does Giorno come in? Gio, being this innocent poor boy who doesn't have a home to go back to, lives on dorm. and let's just say Fugo does too bc he doesn't have the best relationship w his demanding parents, so he was overjoyed when he finally talked them into letting him move from home into the dorms instead. (side note he prolly doesn't Purge his parents bc he needs their money.) so Gio and Fugo know of each other, but not acquaintances or anything.

and then

one day when Fugo's either

running into trouble with some authority figure at school again

just minding his own business and planning his Purge targets

Gio walks in on him, and he's either like

"omg Fugo r u ok do u need help what happened"

"omg Fugo idk what happened between u and ur targets but Purging ain't good, pls reconsider"

and Fugo, having the short-ass fuse that he does (plus probably having his pride wounded and just general mistrust of the ppl around him spurring him on):

"stfu u know nothing about me, but now you've seen this i guess it wouldn't hurt to kill you too"

"stfu u know nothing about me, ur probably one of those happy asshats that have no need for Purges, reconsider?? haha the only thing i'll reconsider is if i'll add u to my kill list" (bc if Gio reports him or sth, Fugo & his fam can get into trouble, since his targets are probably rich and/or influential ppl, but it isn't Purge time yet, so it can be considered malicious intent and/or attempted murder i guess, and so anyone who has any beef w the Fugo fam can bring them down) (i know nothing abt law don't come for me)

and then Gio is like "fuck dis shit im out" and he skrts tf out of there, but sadly Fugo ain't lying 😔 the day of the Purge comes, and Giorno was just trying to barricade himself inside his dorm room when suddenly, Fugo pulls an FBI OPEN UP and breaks inside using all his high-tech weaponry n stuff (i'll share my hcs for chara design later!!). Gio is freaking out so he jumps out the window into the streets, even risking going outside during Purge just so he can get away, but oh 🅱️oy is Fugo stressed tonight. and he literally hunts Gio down and almost kills him

uNTIL!!!¡!

2. abbacchio & giorno:

(SORRY I JUST LOVE DADBACCHIO & GIORSON SO MUCH)

Abbacchio is tasked w hunting down a certain rogue criminal, so he's la-di-da cruising thru Naples to get to Bucci's house, when suddenly this fucking kid comes running up to him with his hair and clothes all messed up and tears running down his face, and is like "pls help me sir i beg u i just need somewhere to hide pls i don't want to do this i don't want to die" and Abba's like "fuq??" but then he hears manic laughter and chainsaws revving and shit, and the kid sniveling all over his crisp™️ Purge suit looks like he can explode with fear at any moment (and plus Abba understands that nobody would ever run up to another person for help during Purge like this, unless it's really their last option), so he sighs, "fine. get behind me."

the kid drops to his knees and Abba can't help but think "aaahhhh fucking dead weight", but he said he'd help, so that's what he's gonna do. now ANOTHER kid rounds the corner but he barely looks sane, he seems almost possessed by something. *fighting ensues* but being a professional cop Abba knocks the kid out cold w a few swift moves, and when he drops to the ground that crazy expression finally leaves his face. he's already wasted too much time, so Abba turns to Kid 1 and is like "go back home brat and dont get into trouble again", but Kid 1 is still a trembling mess on the ground, and he says "i don't have any home to go back to."

subconscious Abba's like "well that's between you and god" but he knows he's basically this kid's god now (besides, there can't possibly be a god that would let things like Purges happen), so he's like, "fine. get in the car and DON'T get in my way" but THEN Kid 1 points to the passed-out demon child, "but we can't leave him here"

A: "he was gonna KILL you!!"

K1: "i know but he didn't mean it, he was just not thinking straight"

A: "Purges ain't where ppl think str8 kid, besides if he didn't really wanna Purge he wouldn't have geared himself up that well"

K1: “but he’s not a bad person. please, if we leave him out here in this state he’ll be killed for sure.”

at this point Abbacchio can't understand wtf Kid 1 is thinking, but for the first time in years he finds some of the humanity he was hoping to regain in Purge, so he's like "fine. haul him into the backseat. but you're sitting with him bc i got my shit in the front. and if he wakes up you're dealing w it this time. cool?"

Kid 1 nods, and surprisingly he has enough strength to shove Kid 2 into the backseat & get in after him. Abba is trying to decide what he wanna do w these kids, when his phone suddenly beeps, and in comes a new message from his superiors, "yo dawg u gotta hurry up and kill that Bucciarati guy, we'd better not catch u slacking" and he's like "yo Kid 1, can u fight?"

"uh, a bit. why?"

"well, that's what you're gonna do for me in return for my protection."

anywhooooo i imagine that later on, Fugo wakes up like "ugh wtf hello concussions????" and he sees Gio standing over him, and he snaps into defensive mode, sitting up and shoving Gio away and everything. but then he sees that Gio's hands are empty, save for maybe a bottle of water and a towel, and somehow Fugo's own wounds are all cleaned and bandaged, and he groans:

"dude, what the fuck are you doing? did i pass out? did you find help?"

G: "you got hit over the head pretty hard, don't move so suddenly."

F: "haha yea thanks i can feel that myself, anyway wtf were you doing?"

G: "uhhhhh... abbacchio patched you up but your face was really grimy so he told me to clean you up, and maybe give you some water?"

F: "no. i mean like what the fuck were you doing????? braincells hello?? kill me! i should be dead!!! is Purge over?? did the sirens go off before you can finish me?"

he suddenly notices how Gio just recoils and sits there with his eyes squeezed shut as Fugo shouts at him and flings his arms around. but he's seen how Gio defended himself against him, so he knows this guy can fight and is no stranger to Purges. this is the first mystery his 152 IQ has encountered in a long time, so Fugo reaches out to get Gio's attention, but then Gio jumps and slaps his hand away so hard Fugo feels his bruised brain jar. he pulls back immediately, holding his hands up, palms forward, finally kind of able to pierce together what's going on inside the blond's mind:

"sorry. wasn't gonna attack you. just... wasn't sure if you were listening to me, so i tried to get your attention."

"i was."

"okay. sorry." Fugo tries, but Gio is already standing up and leaving, glassy green eyes looking anywhere but at him. "wait! Gior— ugh??"

he almost faceplants the ground again. where's my stupid-ass helmet???? i need to be on balance mode stat. but then Fugo feels two arms helping him up, and he looks up to see Gio, frowning in distaste but still supporting him all the same. he feels bad for asking (as if he hasn't bothered this poor guy enough): "uh, so, what exactly happened while i was passed out?"

The thing is, Jac can't find Sav, until she does find her crying in the bathroom because it's like a few months previous so her dad hasn't left yet and things are really messy between her parents obvs she would've tried to call her boyfriend but he wouldn't answer cos he's doing work experience too so Jac comforts her and it's a #bondingmoment and I thought we could start the convo after that/ later either with Jac being like are you okay now or Sav being like I'm so embarrassed] Jac: [yes 1000% to all of that, good thinking boo] Savannah: [would you like to start it being concerned to show she's not like Mia levels of callous heartless bitch?] Jac: [on it lmao] Jac: Hi, just wanted to check in, I hope you're feeling a bit better now Jac: know we haven't particularly before, but if you do ever need to talk Jac: sometimes friends don't get it, I know Savannah: Oh god, I've never been this embarrassed in my entire life!
