Since the identity of the Sweet Sixteen Killer is known in Timeline 2, I don't think it would be as big of a part of the town's identity as it in Timeline 1. So I propose that the big unsolved mystery the town builds itself around in Timeline 2 isn't the killings.
It's Jamie.
The supposed exchange student who was only in town for five days, who knew things she shouldn't (couldn't) have, who disappeared without a trace and, when looked into, never even existed to begin with.

Silly Tara hcs time 🎉🎉🎉🎉
She secretly likes to get the "pat pat" on the head. Sam and Chad are the only ones that do it, and tara will always pretend to get annoyed, but in reality, the three of them know the truth.
She loves to get in the store's cart whenever her and sam go grocery shopping
Tara to sam as soon as they step a foot in a store:
She loves to deeply observe objects and gets easily mesmerised by every little thing. Sam bought her a lava lamp, she had no idea of what it was, she just needed a lamp for tara's new room in new york and it looked nice... Imagine how surprised she was when her little sister stared at it for hours
Tara is a cat-magnet. Every time they're somewhere that isn't their apartment, a cat seems to find her. Now, that wouldn't be bad if sam didn't have to stop her sister from adopting all of them.
Sam lets tara get occasionally drunk (under her supervision) because she gets in a really funny mood and becomes exceptionally cuddly.

He tried to have an 18th century emo phase (he read a lot of Dante and Milton and apocalypse theology), but no one would leave him alone to brood. Instead he got put on horses and paraded around in little outfits. He would've had to be restrained if he'd been able to read Poe or get Lacrimosa on an mp3 player in the 1780s
Chocolate hoard under the damn bed and probably also booze that he stole from the cellar. Getting started young on alcoholism and that eating disorder
Kind of unsettling overall. A weird little guy. He hasn't learned to mask the Strange yet so he gives strangers the heebies sometimes
Just the moodiest little guy to ever exist. No one has ever felt as many emotions as teen Louis. He hates himself he's better than everyone he's going to yell at his mom if he ever gets brave enough he needs to cry for a hundred years he's so horny he's going to combust he is rotting in his room
Couldn't (and never was able to) grow a beard, but he gave it his all for a while until his sister mocked him into shaving
He also gave being straight his all but he was too boy crazy to ignore it. He was most certainly Looking at shirtless stable hands and probably making big wet cow eyes at his classmates instead of paying attention. Maybe even being weird and strange about neighbors' sons at fancy parties. Staring at them like a bush baby
Everyone in the family is more or less aware of this (except Paul who is an oblivious child). His sister is worried for him but not bothered by it, his mom ignores it but it makes her like him even less, and his dad also does not like it/him one bit and says very ominous things to him about sin and propriety
Insect proportions, he was built like a stick bug. He managed to not be clumsy, but only through sheer force of will because everyone already thought he was embarrassing enough and this was one thing he could kind of control
Sooooo judgmental. The truth is he is a mean gay and always has been. He thinks his father's business partner's wife has tacky jewelry and no one is as smart and enlightened as him

- sam prefers the middle seat on plans because it’s easier to be tara protector. tara just thinks she’s insane, but is happy to take the window seat
- tara loves consistency. patterns, routines, counting. sam loves spontaneous activity. they clash over plans all the time.
- sam hates grocery shopping, but it’s more bearable when tara pushes her around in the cart
- both sisters hate period pieces, but love films like ‘ten things i hate about you’
- sam’s a popcorn person, tara’s a pretzel person
- the sisters both had their ears pierced as babies, so when chad mentions wanting his pierced, they squabble over who gets to do it. (tara does the piercing while sam holds him down)
- they are a café bustelo household, and are very ant-keurig (even though mindy swears by it)
- tara loves youtube essays, and sam loves youtube commentaries
- as kids, sam learned tap, tara learned ballet
- tara loves the ‘orange cat/black cat’ relationship memes, and even though sam doesn’t get it, she knows deep down that she’s the black cat
- sam loves black beans and tara loves pinto. chipotle runs are a battle each time.
- kombucha is one of sam’s favorite drinks. tara gags dramatically each time she opens one.
- tara loves those ‘jars being pushed down stairs’ tiktoks. she begs sam to let her push their bottles of soda down the stairs, but sam refuses (she knows she will have to clean all the glass up)
- mindy and tara break all their jars of pickles and onions anyways, because sam doesn’t like pickled things so why should it matter

i don’t think anyone particularly cares about my headcanons for the new cast’s ages but
these are not set in stone and will probably change like tomorrow so don’t quote me on this or assume that i even remember these when i rb ship art because i honestly cant be bothered to have consistent headcanons for any of these characters ever ok

she's always said she'd never get married and have kids- it's just not the life she wanted. she wasn't even capable of falling in love anyway (and y'all know how true that ended up being /sarcasm)
