danganronpa monsters and mythics au: some miscellaneous stuff about students and general life:
jin kirigiri is from a family of monster-hunters. his wife built kyoko and the two of them raised her like a daughter, but upon his wife's death kyoko was taken in by the kirigiri family to be used as a tool. jin encouraged her to gain independence and learn what it means to be alive
hope's peak is a school for only nonhuman students. jin, employed at hpa originally as a teacher for human studies and then as director, was the first one to propose a class with human students. after a lot of back and forth he agreed to a class that consisted of mostly nonhuman students with some experience with humans, and only a few full human students who might be able to stand on equal ground with their peers through magic or other skills
makoto, with no magic or noteworthy skills, was enrolled by sheer luck. the new class already had 3 human students, and was planning on enrolling a leprechaun - but the leprechaun never responded to the letter, so they reached out to a human with inhuman luck instead. makoto accepted without really researching beforehand
small species, like pixies, usually live separately from others due to accessibility issues. some, like chihiro, might try to overcome this by building magic prosthetics to allow them to use tools and do things intended for larger species
similarly, species without opposable thumbs or not suited to land environments will also use prosthetics and mobility aids, like sayaka
recent years has seen more and more cross-species interactions with human populations. sayaka, for example, has a human following, though a number of them believe she's just a human performer with a fantasy gimmick
humans usually have a shorter lifespan compared to most other species, so human-hybrids usually have a growth period and lifespan that doesn't match up with their human side or nonhuman side - for example, byakuya grew up too slow for human society and too fast for dragons. as such he was mostly homeschooled
unlike monster-hunters, exorcists and ghosts are not human-only phenomena. but there are more human ghosts than any other species, so its theorized that the science of becoming a ghost or undead might not be linked to the amount of magic that the deceased had...or, that there are so many humans that die so quickly, that most ghosts would end up human by sheer numbers
magic varies. different species have different sciences defined for it - i.e: the fundamentals of shapeshifting magic differs between those who are born able to do it (i.e selkies) and those who have the ability for it, but need to train and hone it (i.e kitsunes and tanukis) and even those who need to learn from scratch (i.e a human person trying to shapeshift with magic)
there's a lot of theorizing on why so many species might have humanoid features or human appearances in certain circumstances (i.e: selkies, werewolves, even harpies have human faces). currently the jury's out on whether it's because of cross-breeding or evolution, or both. or magic
magic is considered a science. the only difference between a magic smartphone and a human smartphone is a human smartphone uses electricity vs magic - the most concrete thing that defines all magic is, it's something that most nonhumans can perceive and manipulate, but a nonhuman can usually identify another nonhuman out of a group of humans purely by sensing magic
vice versa, things like the harnessing of electricity and uh. bluetooth is considered a magic used only by humans
humans can use magic, but it's difficult and most people need to be born with that affinity first

do you guys ever think about how Wyll is introduced as an archetypal fantasy hero, but then it turns out he’s a warlock, who made a pact with a devil. Do you ever think about how Ansur is described as this fantastical dragon of myth, but then when you find him, he’s turned into an undead monstrosity. Do you think about how when Wyll does the right thing, he is punished to become more monstrous. Do you think about how as Wyll’s warlock powers grow, his spells get more horrific. Do you think about how Ansur was killed by his closest friend. Do think about how Wyll was cast out by the most important person in his life. do you guys ever think about Ansur and Wyll.

Truths that Co-Exist
Barbie (2023) is a giant product placement that profits off nostalgia.
The writing is profound and life-changing and understands why we seek nostalgia in a way most nostalgia-driven entertainment doesn’t.
The film is self-aware about how even now, Barbie dolls set incredibly unrealistic beauty standards. Their “body diversity” does not even scratch the surface of what that phrase really means. I don’t expect this to change.
The film still made a beautiful statement with the scene on the bench about how societal beauty standards are narrow and restrictive! And that beauty comes from experiencing life and the marks it leaves on you!
Its feminist statements are validating. Many of us see our reality onscreen, and the great thing is that it includes how cishet men fall down a pipeline of toxic hypermasculinity. It also shows the solution, and allows men to express themselves despite what society expects them to be.
The film is a capitalist venture.
The cast (aside from the leads) and crew were probably overworked and severely underpaid during filmmaking.
We can still appreciate that something fun was made, and we all made another wonderful memory where we and our loved ones went to the movies color-matching in pink.
We should not feel guilty about seeing ourselves in this film.
Meanwhile, support the WGA and SAG-Aftra strike.

i love when words fit right. seize was always supposed to be that word, and so was jester. tuesday isn't quite right but thursday should be thursday, that's a good word for it. daisy has the perfect shape to it, almost like you're laughing when you say it; and tulip is correct most of the time. while keynote is fun to say, it's super wrong - i think they have to change the label for that one. but fox is spot-on.
most words are just, like, good enough, even if what they are describing is lovely. the night sky is a fine term for it but it isn't perfect the way november is the correct term for that month.
it's not just in english because in spanish the phrase eso si que es is correct, it should be that. sometimes other languages are also better than the english words, like how blue is sloped too far downwards but azul is perfect and hangs in the air like glitter. while butterfly is sweet, i think probably papillion is more correct, although for some butterflies féileacán is much better. year is fine but bliain is better. sometimes multiple languages got it right though, like how jueves and Πέμπτη are also the right names for thursday. maybe we as a species are just really good at naming thursdays.
and if we were really bored and had a moment and a picnic to split we could all sit down for a moment and sort out all the words that exist and find all the perfect words in every language. i would show you that while i like the word tree (it makes you smile to say it), i think arbor is correct. you could teach me from your language what words fit the right way, and that would be very exciting (exciting is not correct, it's just fine).
i think probably this is what was happening at the tower of babel, before the languages all got shifted across the world and smudged by the hand of god. by the way, hand isn't quite right, but i do like that the word god is only 3 letters, and that it is shaped like it is reflecting into itself, and that it kind of makes your mouth move into an echoing chapel when you cluck it. but the word god could also fit really well with a coathanger, and i can't explain that. i think donut has (weirdly) the same shape as a toothbrush, but we really got bagel right and i am really grateful for that.
grateful is close, but not like thunder. hopefully one day i am going to figure out how to shape the way i love my friends into a little ceramic (ceramic is very good, almost perfect) pot and when they hold it they can feel the weight of my care for them. they can put a plant in there. maybe a daisy.

this poor woman ended up in hospital because she ate cayenne + cinnamon coated orange (unpeeled) because there’s a health and wellness influencer with millions of views who recommends it for digestion - she burned her oesophagus
i always saw a few really good other additions of similar things on the comments
please be so, so careful taking advice from these people online, as many of them are not formally trained or educated, brand ambassadors, deep in pseudoscientific rabbit holes and unfortunately, there are many out there who struggle with disordered eating habits
(not mentioned here but another one worth noting: i have personally known people who have burned their oesophagus with viral apple cider vinegar shots and drinks. don’t do that. a burned oesophagus is not fun)
