Miraculous Ladybug and the Valiant Annuler By: Haphira

33. Ladybug’s Changes - Ladybug shows off her new outfit, and Chat... throws a hissy fit.

Marinette stood facing the mirror in her room, glancing at the two designs she had left to pick from for her new suit. Tikki hovered nearby watching with interest. Marinette sighed and held both up to Tikki.

“What do you think? Which one should I go with?” she asked the little goddess. Tikki looked back and forth at the two before flying up the right-hand design.

“Can I ask what the inspiration was about?” Tikki asked.

Marinette smiled, “Yeah, I started thinking hard about it after I saw Hachi’s outfit. The kimono sleeves and hood with the layered skirt and fighter pants looked good! And those side cut outs?! Mwah, Chef kiss. So, it got me thinking about my roots.”

Tikki looked over the two drawings again.

“I like this one more, it playing to your heritage more and I think it looks very cute!”

Marinette smiled, “Yeah I really like that one too, are you ready for the new design?”

“You know it!” Tikki squealed excitedly. “Just say the words!”

Marinette took a deep breath, closing her eyes before saying the transformation words. A bright pink light flashed, enveloping Marinette and leaving the newly dressed Ladybug.

Padded black leggings, and slip on red grippy shoes, with the top being a short version of a Hanfu that reached the top of her thighs, the base red with black spots on the belt, black reinforced opera gloves, and over her shoulder trailed two see through wing shaped scarves. Her hair was up in a bun with two ribbon ends that looked like antenna. Overall, a more grown-up look with modern take on some of her traditional heritage clothing.

Marinette felt powerful and couldn’t help the absolute blissful happy smile on her face. She took to the rooftops, the Eiffel tower as her destination. She flew over the Couffaine boat giving Luka a breath-taking smile as she passed, focusing once more on her destination.

Luka was just strumming not really playing anything. When he saw a shadow pass overhead, he glanced up to see Ladybug. Although, dressed differently, and had a different air about her. Luka couldn’t help but drop his jaw when she smiled at him. Her smile was beautiful, yes, but it was so relaxed and hopeful, something that he realized he hadn’t been seeing lately unless it was with him and the other teammates. Without any hesitation, he called out to his Ma to tell her he was leaving for a while. He didn’t wait to hear her reply. Just shoving his guitar back into her case and jumping off the boat to run into an alley to transform. He followed Ladybug at a distance before catching up to her shortly after she dropped onto the observation deck of the Eiffel tower.

Meanwhile, Adrien was playing a video game when he spotted a familiar figure leaping over rooftops, he grinned and called Plagg to transform ignoring the Kwami’s pleas to not, turning around to set up a dummy to show that he was still in his room, in doing so he missed Dìonadair leaping after Ladybug. Satisfied that everything was set up he opened his bedroom window and jumped into the air to follow Ladybug. Soon he was flying over roof tops running to the Eiffel tower, he knew it was ‘their’ spot to meet up at. However, the closer Chat Noir got to the tower the more he saw, like that fact that Ladybug wasn’t alone. Anger burned in his chest, he landed silently behind Ladybug, he reached out a hand to grab her but was smacked away by ...scarf wings?

Ladybug was thrilled that Dìonadair joined her. She smiled happily as soon as he touched the deck, she reached out to him for a hug, which he gladly returned.

“Dìonadair! I didn’t expect to see you!” Ladybug gushed. She had secretly hoped that Luka would join her but as soon as she saw that he was on his guitar she didn’t want to bother him.

Dìonadair just smiled, “You look exceptionally happy Ladybug, that have to do with the outfit change?”

Ladybug twirled slowly, laughing and smiled. “It might.” Dìonadair smirked, eyes sparking with amusement.

“Well, you look fantastic. I like the new look, Ladybug, it fits you well.” Dìonadair commented. Ladybug smiled happily.

“Thanks.” Neither noticed Chat Noir land behind Ladybug until the wings on Ladybug’s outfit moved to smack Chat’s hand away. Ladybug whirled around to face the danger and Dìonadair got into a fighting stance.

“Hey, what the heck, M’lady?” Chat Noir demanded. Staring daggers at Dìonadair, who looked unimpressed. Ladybug’s smile fell into a frown as she relaxed her stance, realizing the danger was just Chat Noir.

“What are you doing Chat Noir?” Ladybug, annoyed at his actions, asked. Chat pouted, with his lower lip jutted out and everything.

“I saw you pass by and figured we should get some alone time.” Chat whined. Still glaring with hostility, Chat attempted to grab her hand, but Ladybug moved closer to Dìonadair, making her a step out of reach from Chat Noir. Ladybug crossed her arms and Chat finally noticed the outfit change.

“Wha- Bugaboo?! What’s with the getup? I loved your old suit; this new look is-”

“Amazing.” Dìonadair cut in firmly. He had straightened out of the fighting stance he was in but kept his legs shoulder width apart in case of the need for quick movement. Chat frowned and opened his mouth to speak.

“Agreed.” Another voice called out, cutting off Chat Noir. Both Ladybug and Dìonadair turned and saw Sionnach together with Hachi, they touched down and walked up to the group.

Chat’s tail was thrashing around behind him, an extremely displeased expression on his face. “M’lady, who are these people?” he asked curtly, obvious anger in his eyes.

Ladybug looked at Chat Noir coolly, “These are my team members. Hachi and Sionnach respectively,” Both nodded when their names were called, “And Dìonadair behind me.” Oh, he remembered Dìonadair alright.

“New teammates?! What happened to the old ones? What’s with all the changes Bugaboo? And why didn’t you talk to me about it?!” Chat seethed. His eyes narrowed into slits. First, it was the fake hero showing up and now new teammates?!

“Because you didn’t show up. Because of your attitude. Because you still treat this as a game, it’s not a game Chat Noir! People get hurt, and they remember. That scares and scars people, Chat. And that creates more Akuma to fight. Which makes my job harder.” Ladybug hissed. Her ‘wings’ rose behind her as she took a step forward making Ladybug look especially intimidating.

Chat Noir scoffed, he rolled his eyes and crossed his arms. “You don’t have that hard of a job-”

“I spoke to the Guardian about you.” Ladybug cut off, stopping Chat in a frozen look of surprise.

“I’m sick of your attitude and games and you not respecting me as a person. I’m tired of always correcting you and telling you to stop calling me ‘Bugaboo’. It’s not cute, Chat, it’s demeaning and unprofessional.” Ladybug continued. She stared at Chat Noir with a flat expression of someone who was completely over the bullshit.

“I’m done.”

“Wha- What do you mean?” Chat asked, he looked slightly panicked.

“I mean that I’m done dealing with you and your bullshit.” Ladybug replied with that same flat voice.

“Ladybug cursed?” Someone commented softly. Ladybug had forgotten that they had an audience.

“Leave, Chat Noir, I don’t want to see your face.” Ladybug dismissed. She turned from Chat to face the others and walked away. The group parted to let her through, giving one last glance to Chat Noir, the group also turned from Chat and followed their leader to the other side of the observation deck.

Chat Noir watched his Lady walk away with the three newcomers. He was in shock. Ladybug just did that. His Lady just Did That. Anger engulfed him, he flung himself into the air away from the tower, away from Ladybug, away from the posers that pretended to be superheroes like him. He wouldn’t come to the next couple of Akuma fights. Let Ladybug deal without him and see how much she needs him, (him not realizing she already has). He nodded to himself. Yeah, that was the plan. Let Ladybug see how much she actually needs him and accept the apologies that Ladybug will give when she realized her mistakes. He huffed as he headed home for the night.

Ladybug watched Chat leave but couldn’t get herself to care. She was done trying to bend over backwards to please him. It was time to focus on things that would help and change this status quo with Hawkmoth. Ladybug faced her team and smiled.

“Let’s get to work.”

And since it’s December, we’ll start with the festive ones! (Under the cut to spare you all from scrolling unless you want to actually read it 😂)

December Dreams

She had been ecstatic upon first seeing the tree- every lot she and Luka had tried the previous week had been completely sold out.

When he had admitted to driving all the way to Belgium just to get a tree… she had been brought to tears.

Trying to get the tree set up had also brought her to tears. Luka had said he had measured, but he was still a Couffaine. They had managed to get it to fit in the end, even if it was just barely. Though they had had to chop off quite a bit off the base of the trunk.

‘Twas the Night Before Fang-mas

He nuzzled their ankles, then retreated back to the living room. He made his way over to the curtains and wiggled into the space he had made for himself. Once he was fully behind them, he stuck his head out from under them so that he would be able to see the fireplace.

He wouldn’t be having any sweet dreams tonight.

Because he was going to see Santa. He just knew it.

The Big Day

Over the past few months, he had learned a great deal about flowers. There were lots of different types of flowers; some were meant to sit in jugs on tables to block people from each other’s view, some were meant to be carried around, and some were meant to be left on the floor for people to walk on. He had learned so much about flowers in fact, that some might even call him an expert.

And as flower girl, his first job was to make sure there were enough flowers for Marinette to walk on.

Camping With the Couffaines

She offered him a sympathetic smile. “In a few days, you won’t be able to tell!” He didn’t look very convinced. “I can kiss it better if you want?”

“Yeah. Maybe that will make it grow back faster.”

She ignored Juleka’s gagging as she peppered his face and head with kisses.

“Don’t mind me, I’ll just put out this fire while you kiss my idiot brother,” Juleka grumbled.

The Weight of the Mask

She could feel her cheeks growing warm as she scrambled to clean herself up.

“You’ve got something- right there.” She furiously wiped at her face as his face crinkled in mirth. “No, it’s right there,” he gestured to his own chin, to show her where it was. But it was no good. “Here, let me.” His thumb swiped along her chin, getting the last dribble of strawberry, leaving a growing warmth in its wake.

Her cheeks burst into flames.

All it Takes to Grow

She snapped her attention up, glancing towards the source of the sound. Luka was sprawled in one of his chairs. A battered briefcase sat by his feet, and he was poking at the soil in the pot.

“Long day?”

“Yeah,” he groaned, offering her a smile before screwing his face up in distaste. He pulled a water bottle out of the briefcase and slowly poured some into the pot.

She couldn’t help but roll her eyes. “I don’t think watering it is going to do much.”

“Oh?” He quirked a brow and gave her a boyish grin as he put the cap back on the bottle. “Why’s that?”

She shrugged, shaking her head as she laughed. “Somehow, I don’t think it’s going to grow into much.”

“Well,” he shrugged as well, his smile softening, “give it time. Who knows what will grow given the right care.” She snorted as politely as she could, and he laughed. “I haven’t seen you around much the past couple of days.”

Chords and Courtship

“Luka?” He blinked. Kaalki was staring at him expectantly, with a knowing smile on her face and a glimmer in her eyes. “Perhaps we should try this one.” She closed her fan and let it rest gently against her lips.

He wracked his brain. He knew this one. He knew he knew it! He furrowed his brows, willing the answer to come to mind as he stared at the fan, with its handle just grazing her lips. Her lips…

“Kiss me!”

“I’m afraid I will have to object to that.” He jumped at the sound of Sass’s voice.

Songs, Snowballs, and Storms

He laughed as she took another stumbling glide forwards. “It’ll get easier, I promise! Here,” he said, turning and pulling ahead to face her. He took her tiny hands in his, “I’ll help you.”

“Show off,” she mumbled as he skated backward, pulling her along with him. But she was smiling as she said it.

“Only for you.” He chuckled at the bright pink flush that bloomed in her face. It was something she always seemed so embarrassed of, but he loved the way her cheeks turned rosy at even the slightest compliment, the way she wore her heart on her sleeve. So he took it upon himself to compliment her as often as he could.

Count Me In

And then, Juleka had managed to coax the Marinette into a casual conversation, and he had been absolutely beyond help.

Because Marinette was clever and funny, and she was incredibly kind and so amazing and miles out of his league.

She would have been out of his league even if he wasn’t the idiot that had spammed her phone with gifs of the Count.

But he was that idiot.

And Juleka didn’t seem in any hurry to let him forget it.

Juleka vs. the Forces of the Universe

“Luka! Juleka!” They both turned at the sound of their names being called. Aimee was waving at them from in front of the bakery. She had a camera bag around her neck, a tripod slung across her back, and two large duffle bags at her feet. “Great, I was worried I was too early.”

“Aimee? What are you doing here?”

“I’m here to take the pictures, silly.”

“Pictures? What pictures?”

“For the photoshoot, duh.”

“Photoshoot?” He rounded on her, staring hard at her. “Jules, what is going on?”

She smiled as innocently as she could. Over Luka’s shoulder, she could see Aimee cracking up. “Marinette needs to post photos of her new stuff for her insta and website. We’re going to model for her. Now come on, we don’t want to keep Marinette waiting. Do we?”

“You must be tired,” he said quickly, before he could do anything foolish. “And I’m filthy. I’ll leave you to rest and…I’ll see you at dinner, then?”

She nodded, and he thought he saw a faint color grow on her cheeks.

“No. Now get out of my face. I don’t want to see any of you and if I catch you even near my sister again, I got no problem going to jail for a night, you understand?”

The piping voice fell into place right about when he woke up enough to remember the night before. Luka groaned and pulled his covers over his head, wishing he could just curl up and die. He really did want to go back in time and kick drunk Luka’s ass. What had he been thinking, getting that drunk and letting Marinette bring him home alone?

He sat back and listened to her go on about bouts and jams and jammers and blockers , trying to follow but mostly just enjoying how excited she was. By the time she finally wound down, it was time for him to leave, but he was happy to see her enthusiasm restored.

“You’re really going to come to the bout?” Marinette asked, big blue eyes turned up to him as he stood to go.

“Absolutely. And I won’t have a single bandaid in my pockets, I promise.” He winked, and she laughed, and the sound followed him down the stairs and kept him smiling even as the bakery faded from sight behind him.

Viperion looked at her sharply but was blinded by the light of her power activating. He took a step back as she glowed brightly, and when he could see again, his partner was gone. He looked down to see the Multimice grinning up at him. One of them waved him down. Viperion knelt and put his hand down. One of the Multimice climbed onto his palm and he lifted her to his face. “I’ll stay with you,” she said cheerfully, hands on her hips. “Wouldn’t want you to get lonely.”

Viperion chuckled. “Welcome aboard.” He brought his hand up to his shoulder and the Multimouse hopped up.

The movie was just as cheesy and silly as Marinette remembered, and Luka’s whispered asides had Marinette burying her face in his shoulder to muffle her laughter. Fortunately, the theater was not exactly packed, and no one made any effort to shush them. They both doubled over with barely suppressed laughter as Jagged threw himself dramatically into a mudslide down a cliff in the rain after his crocodile co-star, only to land up to his ears in a lake of muddy water at the bottom.

“Back before the age of green screens,” Luka snickered in her ear. “How many times do you think they had to do that take?”

The image of Jagged flinging himself repeatedly into the mud because the first take hadn’t been rock ‘n roll enough sent them both into another fit of giggles.

Luka tried to remind himself as he walked to the T&S Bakery that he knew absolutely nothing about his mystery neighbor, and he shouldn’t be nervous. If he was lucky, he’d make a new friend. If he wasn’t, he’d buy them a coffee, make awkward small talk for half an hour, and go home and hide under his covers until he didn’t feel like dying of embarrassment anymore for being so incredibly wrong and his next hit song would be about shattered illusions and the stupidity of self-indulgent fantasies and he’d have to laugh awkwardly in interviews while trying desperately to avoid telling the truth of his inspiration.

Luka took a deep breath and blew it out slowly, acknowledging the thought and letting it go with his breath like his therapist had taught him.

He shrugged his shoulders slightly to resettle his leather jacket, and then pushed open the door.

It was intimate, even a little sexy, but not at all explicit, soft with the morning light, her hair mussed and spread across the pillow, his cheek leaning on her temple, both wearing still sleepy expressions of contentment. The dark mark on Luka’s collarbone, visible just over the curve of her shoulder, and his eyes looking right at the camera, intense where hers were soft, made her body warm. “Can I keep it?” he begged. Marinette pursed her lips, considered the worst case scenario, and decided she wouldn’t die of embarrassment if, say, her parents saw it. It looked kind of like a sexy perfume ad, actually.

“Y-you c-can keep it,” she sighed. “B-but j-just for us.”

“Promise,” he said, saving the photo. Then he kissed her neck in a spot he knew was ticklish, making her scrunch her shoulder up.

“L-luka,” she laughed, and he leaned further and kissed her cheek.

“Can I keep these too?” he grinned, handing her the phone.

Jagged might be an artist and he might be the greatest rock ‘n roll star of his generation, but a “pure” artist? Not even close. It was moments like this morning when he was reminded that Jagged was a businessman as well as an artist, and that all his lip-service to the purity of the emotion he put into his work was—well. It wasn’t all bullshit. Jagged’s songs were emotional, it was something Luka had always admired about his work, but he’d walked away from the meeting this morning feeling like Jagged’s tears must be shaped like tiny dollar signs.

I was tagged by the fabulous @19thsentry-blog and I need a break from studying/working on my paper so here we are! I’m just going to tag three people, but anyone who wants to should join in! And I agree with Nat, this does feel more like a “hey what’s up” text chain. But that’s always a good thing!

Currently Reading: an article on the current contemporary cognitive processing model, but I wish I was reading for fun right now (I have so much to catch up on) 😩😩😩

Favourite colour: soft rose pink is my favourite, but I also love lilac and sky blue

Last Song: This Love, specifically the Minnz piano cover (I cannot listen to music with words when I’m trying to read or write)

Last Movie: I honestly cannot remember, it’s been a long time since I watched a movie. the episodes of Midsomer Murders are like, 90 minutes each though, so does that count?

Sweet/Spicy/Savory: It’s honestly so unfair of you to ask me to choose, but I have a really intense craving for something sweet right now so I guess we’ll go with sweet 😂

Currently working on: School work, but once I get my paper submitted it’s going to be a mad scramble to finish the first chapter of my fic for the Secret Admirer Exchange. After that hopefully Juleka vs. the Forces of the Universe but that will depend on how much time I have before I have to start my next assignment.

Bonus: The highlight of my day was that I got a new soap dish. It has a bunny on it. I am extremely excited about it and can’t stop smiling every time I look at it

18: have you ever read fics you would not confess to reading?

🤔 I don't...think so. I've definitely read fic I've regretted reading, or where there was smut of a type I didn't care for, but not to the point where I'd lie about having read it. I might not spontaneously volunteer the information to the general public but I can't think of a situation where I wouldn't admit it here or on discord to my equally weird friends. 😆 mostly if I read something I regret it's because I didn't pay enough attention to what was in it or otherwise found it on accident, and still finished it because I was already reading it and might as well, or I sat through the unappealing-to-me smut because the emotional part was worth it to me. I wouldn't be ashamed to admit any of those reasons, so I don't think I'd be more than mildly embarrassed to admit to reading the fic.
