Making all your wishes come true
ao3 ff.net
“Hey Luka,” Ladybug said.
“Yes Ladybug?” Luka replied.
“Look!” Ladybug said before she twirled around. The adorable ladybug girl with blue pigtails looked beautiful against the stars.
Honestly, Luka was ready for anything because on this fateful night, Ladybug greeted him and asked if he wanted to see the stars with her. And she swept him off his feet, taking him to a roof where thousands of stars dotted the night sky. And Ladybug could enjoy Luka playing beautiful guitar music. She knew he deserved to play on a stage, but the fact that he enjoyed the view so much and that he was over the moon playing his music after so many people looked down upon him made her so happy.
Luka stopped playing for a moment when Ladybug stood by the stars and cupped her hands. She giggled at his confused expression.
“I am going to catch a falling star and make all your wishes come true,” she said.
Luka smiled and shook his head.
“You’re adorable!”
Ladybug brushed him off, “I’m serious! It’s my duty as a hero!” She saluted him before winking at him.
Luka continued playing his song and gave her a somewhat melancholy smile. “I’m the only one who could make my dreams come true but they seem so far away. As far away as those stars.”
Ladybug walked up to him and looked down upon Luka like he was a naiive little cat. Luka couldn’t help but look up in wonder at Paris’ own superheroine.
“Stars light the night sky to give us hope. We may not be able to reach them, but sometimes they fall down granting wishes to those who need them the most,” Ladybug said.
Ladybug turned, and Luka could see the stars illuminating the most powerful hero in the city of Paris.
“As the heroine of Paris I know just how bad the world can get. All the terrible things, but then I see stars in the sky and I feel the world isn’t all terrible.”
She turned back to him, and Luka could’ve sworn he could almost see tears brimming from her eyes.
“And you don’t deserve all the terrible things that happen to you Luka. You’re far too kind! So I got to make sure at least one of your dreams comes true! Anything at all!”
Luka smiled warmly as he played a soft melody that made Ladybug’s heart skip a beat.
“I appreciate it Ladybug, but I am more than happy to play music for small audiences.”
Ladybug smirked and cupped her hands again. “Well, I still want to catch a star for you. I promise you I will!”
Luka watched her as he continued playing. She looked like a Greek goddess as she was waiting for a shooting star to fall in her hands.
He couldn’t keep his eyes off this beautiful heroine as he kept on playing a beautiful love song that was lingering in his heart. But before he knew it, he noticed a shooting star swiftly falling and missing Ladybug’s hands.
Luka stopped playing and quickly dug his phone out of his pocket. “Ladybug!”
“Huh?” Ladybug cried. Luka being frantic wasn’t something she was used to. Luka’s camera showed a confused Ladybug, and Luka couldn’t help but smile a bit at Ladybug’s determination.
“I saw a shooting star,” he said.
“Really?” Ladybug gaped. “Did I catch it???”
“Just barely,” Luka said.
“No!” Ladybug stomped her foot.
Luka smiled warmly and set his phone on a nearby stand. “It’s ok Ladybug, you’ll catch the next one.”
Ladybug turned away from Luka and twirled her yo-yo as she gritted her teeth. “I will catch the next star Luka! I promise!”
And as Luka turned the record button on his phone, Ladybug jumped in the air and swung on multiple buildings. She enjoyed flying through the sky without limits and she looked even more radiant swinging high in the sky across the stars.
Luka was absolutely starstruck as he watched her while running his fingers through the guitar strings.
But eventually Ladybug was coming back to earth and Luka placed his guitar to the side to get ready to catch her but Ladybug landed safely in front of him. She panted as she grabbed Luka’s hand and she gave him a reassuring smile as he gave her a concerned but adorable look. Ladybug could’ve sworn she saw stars reflecting off his aqua-blue eyes.
Ladybug blushed and turned away from him as she held out her hands in defeat.
“Ok! I guess the stars win tonight! But next time they won’t escape me!”
Luka softly chuckled under his breath. “I’m sure you’ll reach the stars next time Ladybug.”
Ladybug grinned as she turned back at him, and her blue eyes gleamed at him. “You too Luka!”
After much excitement, Ladybug quietly sat beside Luka, resting her head against his chest and closing her eyes.
Luka smiled down at the beautiful superheroine as he listened to her soft snores.
Little did he know while his phone was on record, it caught the moment when a shooting star fell into Ladybug’s opened hand.
~~~~~
On a beautiful sunny day Marinette and Viperion found themselves running away to an empty balcony with a table to spend some time together. Both of them blushed over the idea of calling it a “date” though. The two of them finally had some alone time together and they could just talk about anything.
But Marinette was looking intently as she sipped her tea and listened to Viperion speak about philosophy.
“They say time moves in a flat circle,” Viperion pondered. “And I have to say I have reset time enough to say that there is truth behind that saying.”
Marinette mused at the thought of how strong Viperion was to be Paris’ guardian of time. She didn’t count Bunnyx because Viperion was much more capable. She never said it out loud, but she wondered if Viperion should have the bunny miraculous. Imagining the amazing handsome Viperion in a fluffy bunny suit was just too funny but also too adorable.
Marinette stifled a giggle, but Viperion gave a pleased smile in response; he loved to hear the little melody laugh.
“Really, it can be frustrating seeing society change slowly over the course of time, but sometimes it can be a bit comical,” Viperion said.
Just then, Marinette giggled a bit harder, and this time, she couldn’t hold it back as she placed her hand over her lips.
“Hmm? What’s wrong Marinette?”
Marinette took a moment to wave her hand as she got out her phone and pressed the camera function. “Stay there for a moment.” Marinette said before she took a picture of Viperion.
Viperion was still incredibly confused but Marinette walked up to him and batted her eyelashes before showing the picture she took of him.
In the photo, Viperion looked awfully confused because he didn’t realize that a rainbow was behind him in the distance. And at the end of the rainbow was Viperion’s head.
Ok, Viperion had to admit, that was clever. But then he quickly turned to see the rainbow in the distance fading away.
Marinette giggled again.
“I guess at the end of the rainbow is you, Viperion.”
Viperion chuckled. For a moment he had a beautiful daydream of him taking Marinette away so they could chase rainbows and he would carry her until they reached the other side and beautiful colors would shower on both of them. That was something he couldn’t pass up so he held out his hand to her in a familiar way and Marinette blushed in response.
“Wanna see more rainbows Marinette?”
Marinette giggled as she bashfully looked away. “You know I’d love to Viperion, but my parents would worry if I was gone too long. I am already avoiding enough responsibilities as is.”
Viperion smirked in response as he took a step toward her. “Well, I would love to take you away for just a little while longer.”
“Mmm,” Marinette pondered as she took a step closer to Viperion. She smiled as she tried to take his hand. Then her heart dropped slightly when Viperion’s bracelet made that usual annoying sound. Viperion looked at his own bracelet like it was an annoying alarm clock.
Viperion sighed to himself as he looked away. “I’m sorry Marinette…”
But Marinette wasn’t going to allow this departure to be sad so she put on her best smile and cupped his face with her hand so he was looking her in the eye.
“I’ll make every moment count,” Marinette whispered. “I’ll be sure to find you next time.”
Viperion smiled in return, even if his powers were already causing him to fade away.
“My powers sometimes give me less time than I think.” Viperion thought that was awfully ironic.
“No way!” Marinette cried.
Viperion was caught off guard by Marinette placing her hands on his shoulders and risking it by quickly kissing him on both cheeks. Leaving pink kiss marks for each one. And the usual mature and capable Viperion looked as if he was seeing stars in response to Marinette’s kisses.
Marinette giggled before waving at him. “See you around Viperion!”
Viperion grinned one more time as he waved back. “See you later, beautiful!” And like clockwork, Viperion disappeared again.
But Marinette didn’t despair this time, she always treasured these secret dates she would have with Viperion.
Not to mention, she felt like she would meet him again tonight.
~~~~~
As Ladybug, she met Viperion again when the stars shone over all of Paris. But Ladybug was stunned that Viperion asked to meet her for non-hero-related work.
Still, his bright eyes and smile were hard to not to fall in love with, it almost reminded her of Luka. Oh did Viperion have to be the biggest tease in the world!
“Good evening, Sir Viperion,” Ladybug smirked.
Viperion chuckled under his breath. “Hello there, Miss Ladybug. I am happy to see you tonight.”
Ladybug giggled as she confidently walked up to Viperion but stopped before she got too close. “And you know I’m always happy to see you, Viperion,” Ladybug said smoothly before she winked at him.
Viperion chuckled under his breath as he looked at the stars.
“I wanted to show you something,” he said.
Ladybug’s eyes went wide. “What is it?”
Viperion continued scanning the stars and then summoned his harp. When he managed to spot a shooting star above them, he ran his fingers through his harp and slowed down time.
“Ladybug, look!”
Ladybug followed and gasped when she saw that Viperion made a shooting star fall in slow motion.
“Whoa! Viperion this is amazing!” Ladybug cupped her hands for the shooting star to slowly fall. But time went back to normal and the shooting star swiftly disappeared in Ladybug’s palms.
Ladybug giggled with her hand over her lips, and Viperion placed his hand on his hip and gave her a sideways grin.
But Ladybug outdid him by giving him such a grateful look with her blue eyes sparkling like stars; Viperion was taken aback, and he could’ve sworn his face was heating up.
“Thank you, Viperion…”
Viperion’s mouth was agape for a moment looking at her.
“...You’re welcome, Ladybug.”
Ladybug giggled again and ran in the other direction before jumping off the roof and flipping in the air.
Viperion couldn’t keep his eyes off her and played his harp to let her fall down slower. It was amazing seeing just how graceful she was.
Ladybug also felt lighter and got a better view of the shooting stars that fell above them.
She couldn’t resist and kept on jumping and flipping on the roofs and having the time of her life, and Viperion was below making sure she was safe.
Ladybug wished she could be among the stars forever but she eventually fell down on a roof further away and turned to where Viperion was. But before she could get up she didn’t realize Viperion teleported to her and hugged her from behind as she got up.
Ladybug did a soft gasp, but Viperion hummed softly as he continued hugging her, and as Ladybug realized she wasn’t dreaming this time, she sighed contently as she relaxed against him.
“Viperion…” Ladybug whispered.
“Did you get your wish?” Viperion said.
Ladybug nodded, but before she could tell him that wish, Ladybug and Viperion looked above them and saw an entire meteor shower light up the sky for them. Both heroes were completely in awe, but not just because of the stars. Viperion held Ladybug closer in protection, and Ladybug gently massaged Viperion’s arms, a whole new feeling to Viperion that was absolutely welcomed.
I got many wishes, Ladybug thought. She still wanted to grant Luka’s wish and she felt he could achieve that because her wish was already granted for her.
Viperion, you’re my wish come true, Ladybug thought.
~~~~~
And Marinette woke up the next day feeling refreshed and giggling. She could brush it off as a dream, but she knew it was real, and she was definitely going to cherish that memory.
Marinette got dressed and ran out of her house eagerly with her tote bag. She wouldn’t let anyone stop her today, and when she heard a stranger point out a huge rainbow that was above them, Marinette smiled and decided to run to the end of the rainbow.
Marinette was like a speeding bullet and apologized as she ran past strangers. She felt so free at that moment, and when she reached the end of the rainbow, what she found filled her with relief.
Luka was following the trail of the rainbow as well, his aqua blue eyes shined as he waved at her and Marinette grinned as she called his name and ran to him.
Little did they know that Sass and Tikki met in private and noted how happy and content Luka and Marinette were together.
Both kwamis felt their masters were being absolutely hopeless.
In Your Dreams
Summary:
When a vindictive witch traps Marinette in an enchanted sleep, she finds herself alone in a strange dreamworld. Her curse takes a turn for the better when a boy she met once upon a time stumbles into her dream landscape. Together they work to find a way to shatter the curse and set Marinette free. Sleeping Beauty, A Midsummer Night's Dream, and Lukanette all collide to create a magical world bursting with romance, loss, and faerie shenanigans. Special thanks to Liv for beta reading for me!
Notes:
Bluebells signify humility and kindness, but to hear the bells ring is an ill omen that usually signifies a quick death, for they are the faeries' domain. Take care when you enter an enchanted wood The fair folk roam and the trees have eyes Watch! Flowers tell of a spell- look for the ring as ye should The truth stays hidden, though you'll be told no lies
Prologue: This is a Faerie Story
Spring
Lila slunk through the vibrant blue flowers, closing in on her prey. She would catch the foxy orange sprite and make a trade. Fae folk were notorious for making deals. Her goals in this world were greater than the life she had been born into, and she wasn’t going to let something so trite as the wretched circumstances of her birth thwart her. There was magic in this world, and if she was as clever as she thought she was, it was hers for the taking.
With a deep breath, Lila stood straight, right in the center of the bluebells, when she heard the faintest tinkle of a bell. The sprite she'd been following turned towards her and grinned, its teeth sharper and more wicked-looking than Lila had first supposed. The sound of the bell played in her mind and made her feel momentarily uneasy. She shook off her apprehension and stood straight and tall, facing the fox-like sprite. “I have come to strike a bargain.”
Trixx’s eyes gleamed but she stayed her hand. The bell had been wrung, but the hour was up to her. The rules were a little fuzzy on the matter of timing, so she smiled wickedly at the intruder and decided that it was high time that she had a little fun. Let Tikki play nice with the humans, Trixx just wanted to play , and her instincts told her that this was what she needed to finally win that bet.
Lila felt a thrill of triumph when the faerie looked at her and tilted her head winsomely, “What did you have in mind?”
This was her chance. She would change her life.
Game on, human.
Autumn
Wayzz grumbled as he burrowed into the leafy nest he’d created. All he wanted was a peaceful existence in which to spend his immortal life. A ray of sunshine to warm his shell.
And yet.
Trixx was skirting the rules with her shenanigans- and he had a feeling that he would have to intervene before it was over. Time might not be able to touch them , but she was interfering with humans again.
Meddling fox. Whatever happened, he wasn’t going to think about it until the sun warmed the pond. These sorts of things should never be rushed. Which was fine by him.
Winter
Tikki wove her way through the crowd, watching the swirling tendrils of magic as they coursed through the small throng of people. There was nothing like old traditions to incite enthusiasm in the old magics. A village full of candle-bearing townsfolk was bursting at the seams with tradition this bright Noël night and Tikki delighted in the crackle of magic as it thrummed under her skin.
Rosay might never become much of a city situated so close to a faerie wood as it was, but that was exactly why Tikki liked to visit. Outside the notice of kings and queens, Rosay was a vibrant little hovel that housed some of the more creative humans she’d had the chance to meet.
Tikki watched as the colorful ribbons of magic bent and explored, splitting off and coming back together in ever-shifting patterns. They were curious and playful and she took note when they seemed to converge on a young woman. The pink strands of Creation seemed delighted by her, but there were odd silvery blue threads that curled and twisted around her protectively as well. She couldn’t understand Chance’s intervention- until she spotted the disjointed little spikes of orange Chaos that seemed to poke and prod at the girl. Every spike riled up the blue and it sparked and crackled until the orange slunk out of sight.
The pink magic tugged at the girl’s scarlet cloak, causing it to billow out, and Tikki understood why Creation couldn’t leave her alone. The garment hidden below the festive cloak was some of the best handiwork she’d ever seen- and it didn’t have a stitch of magic in it. The gown was pale green, and its design was simple enough- perfectly suited to the peasant who wore it. The bodice was a different story- or maybe a dramatic retelling of the original. It was a crisp white material, covered in delicate embroidery depicting holly leaves in many shades of green and berries that ranged from pale pink to deep burgundy. Tikki was riveted. This child would be hers. She looked at the face of the girl and smiled in recognition. It was almost as if she could predict the future. Creation was her domain after all.
Spring
Sass tasted the air with a flick of his tongue. His winter brumation had been peaceful, but the forest had not been idle while he slept. He didn’t need to sleep of course. But he enjoyed the habits of his chosen form- and there were many benefits to avoiding the rest of his ilk during the cold months. He stretched, growing several feet longer in the process, and grinned.
So many chances had been taken and were yet to come to fruition. He didn’t usually spend time close to town—humans were as easily spooked as horses after all—but he liked the lingering flavors of time and choices on the wind. Staying on the edge of the woods might be a chance worth taking. What was that human saying? Something about killing two creatures with one stone. Maybe he could overturn the right rock.
Sliding out from his favorite ledge, he found a delightful expanse of sun to curl up in. There were far more flowers blooming this early than usual. He tasted the air again. It was sweet but cut with a cloying tang of decay. Tikki had not slept her winter away. The heartbeat of Creation beat just a little too hard. The cloying tang teased his senses- Trixx was taking her sweet time finishing up her loose ends. He had a feeling that it was going to be an interesting summer.
In Your Dreams
Chapter 2: Flight of the Unwilling Prince- Luka
Summary: Luka flees from his home in Scotland when his birthright threatens to overwhelm him. Notes: I wanted to share the song that catapulted a little idea I had into its current fae-riddled obsession. Feel free to listen to In My Dreams by Ruth B. if you like. All my thanks to @blueberry-macaron for beta reading! I really appreciate your help and enthusiasm. Oh- and chapter lengths are likely to vary wildly. Enjoy!
Luka had no intention of becoming king. So when his father had shown up out of the blue—to heap the unwanted responsibility on his bastard son—Luka had taken his mother’s suggestion and fled. Some battles were better won simply by not engaging. His sister and mother would follow once he found a place to settle and sent word. It wasn’t that he was truly opposed to leading their people—he cared for them—but he had not been raised or trained to do so. King Jareth Stone had been wild in his youth and wasn’t much less so now. And though he took financial and educational care of his illegitimate children- Luka, along with his Mother and sister, had been largely left to their own devices. The King had always said he planned to marry and produce an official heir eventually. Only he hadn’t. And he had decided on a whim or perhaps by the impatience of his supporters, that Luka should shoulder the whole affair.
There was more than Luka’s lack of political education that made him a poor choice for the crown. There was his music. Music spoke to him in a way that was considered… unnatural. In fact, he found his understanding for most people in the music he could hear from their hearts or souls. While an empathetic ruler might sound like a good thing, Luka was reasonably sure that the cacophony that would assault him in such a position would drive him mad.
Weary and tired of traveling, Luka looked ahead, hoping to see a place to stop- perhaps even to stay. He spotted a hazy sort of disturbance on the horizon at the edge of a wood and led his mount towards the shimmering sky. Thin plumes of smoke had led him to one of the smallest villages he’d ever set foot in. The quaint French village lay some ways between the border of Scotland and the city of Paris. The people here looked as if they knew how to celebrate. The smoke that had drawn his attention was coming from several fires around the village square. He counted the days in his head, he’d packed swiftly and traveled as quickly as he dared, skirting past larger towns to avoid detection. Most nights he had spent under the stars, wrapped in his tartan and resting against the warm back of his steed. He had dared to stay in an inn yesterday for a good rest and a much-needed bath. Still, he must have been on the move for longer than a fortnight—likely the Festival of Beltane—or whatever it was called here in France.
Men and women alike were dressed in bright colors, with crowns of flowers on their heads or pinned to their clothes. It seemed a good place to stop and stay a while. Luka wandered through the square, he purchased a loaf of bread that put the best Scotland had to offer to shame. He tore into the soft loaf with happy abandon, in part simply glad to no longer be astride. He took the time to find lodging for himself and stables for Apollo. Depending on what the morrow brought, he could look for something more permanent, but this way, when the town revelry ended and he needed a place to rest his head, he would have accommodations. With his meager belongings stowed and dressed in clothes befitting the region (it felt odd to be without his tartan), he set out to explore.
Lively music echoed around the stone buildings and he drifted toward the sound. His fingers twitched for his clarsach, but he would be without that until Ma and Juleka joined him. He purchased a small plate of cheese and dried fruits and couldn’t help but admire the plate made from woven grasses. The townsfolk were wandering about with their own grass plates- no one was held in one place to return dishes. Finding a spare bit of shade under a large oak tree, Luka sat where the music could wash over him while he enjoyed his light meal. He enjoyed watching the populace as they mingled and danced. There was some sort of competition between the men, but it was too far away for him to understand the goal. The heart songs of most of these people were colored with joy for the day. Feeling satisfied and comfortable, Luka drifted off to sleep against the sturdy tree.
The sun was low on the horizon, bathing the town in a rosy golden glow when Luka’s eyes opened. The music told a tale of a slow awakening and the promise of light and life. Carefully taking in the change in scenery, Luka smiled when he spotted the women and girls dancing around a pole, ribbons clutched in one hand. Beltane had such lovely traditions and this little village had lovely maidens. One little girl was toddling on unsteady legs against the flow of the rest of the dancers. He assumed it was her first year, the rest of the ladies were careful not to cause her to stumble. Four of the girls stood out, possibly some of the eldest. Their movements were perfectly coordinated with one another- the girls were clearly accustomed to dancing together. They incorporated extra flair into their steps and their hands met in a clap whenever they passed one another.
It wasn’t long before he caught himself watching the same girl while she danced. Her heart had a joyful melody that stood out even in the crowd of happy celebrants. Luka found that he wanted to know her, to bask in that song and her joyful smile.
Pink and white flowers danced on dark hair. A smile danced below shining blue eyes. Like a moth to a flame, Luka drifted closer- captivated by the dancer as she spun and dipped in time to the music.
Once the Maypole was shrouded in its ribbons the girls scattered, laughing and shouting as they went, and Luka nearly lost sight of the ebony-haired beauty. A quick look around revealed that she was still with her friends. They danced as gleefully without the Maypole as they had done with it- though there was a sense of wild abandon and their steps were less practiced. Two of the girls disappeared to dance with eager young men and Luka stepped ever closer to the remaining two.
Would the raven-haired girl dance with him if he asked?
Sometimes it took some convincing to get Marinette to put her work down long enough to eat. Luka is always willing to put in the effort though.
Prompt: Convincing them to eat
Luka ran cold water into the cullender, shuffling the leaves with his hand cleaning them. He shook it out and set it on the side, continuing putting the ingredients into the lasagna. When he was done, he popped it in the oven and washed his hands, hanging up the tea towel on the oven handle and headed to check in the room next door.
He stuck his head in the room, scanning it until his eyes landed on the person he was looking for. He smiled gently as he saw Marinette crouched at the bottom of a gown, embroidering the bottom with elegant golden flowers on top of the white fabric it already was. He tapped on the skirting board with the heel of his foot, grabbing her attention to where he was leaning against the doorframe.
“Luka! Hi! Sorry, were you talking to me?” Marinette ran her hand through her hair, pushing it up out of her eyes and back.
Luka tilted his head slightly as his smile grew soft, “No, I just came to tell you dinner was in the oven.”
“Oh ok.”
Luka looked around the room. It was kind of a mess. There was fabrics everywhere, bits and pieces spread across every available surface whether for comparison or colour matching or left over bits and bobs discarded. There was lace here and there and needles pinned into random places, one even stuck into the wall.
He shook his head fondly as Marinette went back to her work. He wandered around the room, picking up pieces here and there and making the room a little bit more organized. Enough to be safe at least. Once he was done, he left her to continue in peace, heading back to the kitchen and pulled out pie crust, chocolate pudding mix, and a medium sized pot. He set the pudding on the stove and went about making a chocolate cream pie. He put it in the freezer, knowing that they’d have to eat it a bit after dinner if they wanted it to be cold enough, and checked on dinner. He smiled and pulled out the lasagna, going about setting the table up for two.
Once he thought it was sufficient enough, he returned to Mari’s work room. He made sure his steps were heavier and knocked on the door frame so she wouldn’t be startled. As much at least. She still jumped and looked up at him which made him smile. She had pulled her hair up into a bun which reminded him vaguely of her hero form with the mouse miraculous. Multimouse certainly rated high on Luka’s “Marinette’s cutest looks” list. The space buns were absolutely precious.
“Dinner’s ready,” he spoke gently as he walked over, admiring the work she’d gotten done.
“I’m almost done,” Marinette turned back to her work even though Luka was right next to her, and she knew that he could see she was only just halfway through this.
“It’ll get cold.”
“I can nuke it.”
“Microwaved food isn’t as good as just out of the oven.”
“I’m almost done though,” She finally looked up at him, giving the blue haired boy the best pout she could muster.
“We both know that’s not true.”
Marinette’s shoulders dropped as she ducked her head.
Luka knelt down, bringing a hand to her chin gently pushing it up so their eyes met. He leaned forward until their lips pressed together in a soft kiss. He lingered for a moment before moving up to press one to her nose then her forehead then took her hands in his and brought them to her face and gave each back a kiss.
“Come. Take a break. For me?”
“You don’t play fair,” Marinette whispered, as if speaking louder would shatter the moment like glass.
“If it convinces you to care for yourself,” Luka matched her volume as he released one of her hands to tuck a stray hair behind her ear and pressing his palm to her cheek which she leant into, “I’d cheat every time.”
“That’s not very heroic of you.”
“I never claimed to be a hero.”
She pressed her lips to his once more, pulling away and looking intently into his eyes, “you didn’t have to. You prove it every day.”
Luka’s heart pattered harshly in his chest in a way that spread warmth from his cheeks to the tips of his fingers, a tingly feeling lighting him up and infecting his face and his head was fuzzy in what could only be described as love.
As cliche as it was, he fell in love with her more every day and he hoped- no… he knew he would never lose that feeling.
“Come,” a simple demand as he stood, pulling her up with him.
There was no protest this time, much to his delight as he led her out of the room, she had holed herself into all day long. And when she emerged, he grinned widely as her breath caught in her throat, a gasp exhaled past her lips.
“Luka…”
The dining table had candles set up lighting the room in a dim, homely light. The lasagna was presented on their best plates with a glass of white wine to pair with it, the bottle sitting in the middle of the table with the extra food. Red rose petals were spread across the floor and a vase also sat in the middle of the table with full ones. Nine roses in full bloom, a royal purple.
“There’s dessert in the freezer too. Your favorite,” Luka whispered into her ear as he pressed her into his side, arms wrapping behind her and situating themselves on her waist.
“Luka…” Marinette breathed, looking up at him. Tears had gathered at the corners of her eyes.
“Yes, my Melody?”
“It’s perfect.”
“Just like you,” he pressed a kiss to her head.
He was surprised when she suddenly pulled away, eyes wide and hands waving around frantically, “I can’t be here!”
“Why not?” the blue haired boy asked calmly. He was knowledgeable enough of her freak outs to know that she was not freaking out due to something he did wrong, but something she thinks is wrong with her.
“Look at me! I’m a mess!”
He shook his head in fond exasperation as he looked at her. She continued ranting, arms waving wildly, eyes wide, body swaying with her freak out. The way her hair stuck up in odd places, the way her eyes reflected the candlelight so beautifully, the way she was so worried about how she looked because she couldn’t see how perfect she was in his eyes.
“Marinette.”
“And don’t even get me started on…”
“Marinette,” he called again.
Marinette finally stopped, looking towards him. He kept up his smile as he slowly approached. He bent down, getting down on one knee and watching as her eyes lit up frantic for a completely different reason.
“My Melody, will you marry me?”
Extra:
"I cannot believe you proposed to me while I was in sweatpants."
"I can."
Marinette scoffed, "Why? Because I'm beautiful no matter what?"
"Precisely."
Marinette ducked her head as she tried to repress her smile, "Sap."
"For you? Always."
This was not supposed to be an entire series rewrite??? And it's not??? Sorta???
...anyway, we're Mystik Spiral Kitty Section, but we're thinking of changing our name.
It all came together so quickly after that.
While Rose was out, they hauled some equipment up to the roof: a drum kit that was hanging around the basement studio (that Jagged hadn’t actually used since the air had broken), Juleka’s bass, Luka’s favorite guitar, and a few amps.  They spitballed ideas while Rose was gone, tossing around potential band names and set lists.  When Rose finally came back, a mountain of a boy was lurking behind her.
“Ivan!” Marinette cried, her eyes widening in surprise.  He waved sheepishly while he rubbed the back of his neck with his other hand, his eyes trained on the floor.  His face looked flushed, but that could have been the heat.  “You play?”
“…a bit, yeah,” he mumbled.  “Myles says I’m good, but I think she’s biased.”
But as it turned out, Mylène wasn’t biased.  Ivan was honestly, truly good.
“…this might actually work,” Luka said, nodding as Rose screamed a metal version of his dad’s first single into the mic.  He turned to Marinette with a grin.  “Sure you don’t want to join?  We have a tambourine hanging around somewhere.  Anyone can play a tambourine.”
“Weren’t the tambourine players mostly eye candy?” she asked, her nose scrunching adorably.  He chuckled and shrugged, looking back at the little makeshift stage they had set up.
“Maybe,” he said.  His smile softened.  “Maybe I just like having you around.  It could be something fun to do together, like Rose said.  Maybe we’re all gonna suck and the band’s gonna need some eye candy to distract whoever’s watching from how bad we sound.”
Her eyes widened at the look he gave her, heat flooding her face.  She turned back to the stage with a cough, shaking her head.
“I-impossible,” she said, sitting up straighter.  “You can’t suck — you’re performing on a Jagged Stone album, Luka.  You’re amazing.”
“That’s not skill, though,” he said, leaning forward to rest his elbows on his knees.  “That’s nepotism.  You know there’s no way I’d be on the track if I wasn’t his kid.”
“Give yourself some credit,” she huffed.  “XY being top of the charts?  That’s nepotism.  You know the only reason that idiot’s gotten anywhere is because his dad owns the label.  You, though?  Yeah, your dad being who he is helps, but you’re good, Luka.  He wouldn’t let you play if you weren’t — you know it’s just as much about making himself look good as it is giving you a foot in the door.”
He couldn’t stop the little smile that quirked his lips as he glanced back at her.
“Not a big XY fan?” he asked, and she snorted as she tipped her head back.  His smile grew a little at the indignant expression on her face.
“Please,” she tsked.  “I like real musicians.  Besides, I’m kinda over blonds.”
He looked like he wanted to say more, but the song was wrapping up and Rose was calling for his attention again.
“So?” she asked, bouncing by the mic.  “Is he in?”
He glanced back at Marinette, who was grinning at him as she nodded, and he sighed as he shrugged.
“Ok, if Ivan’s cool with it, I’m in,” he said, and Rose’s squeal — especially echoed back in the mic — was loud enough to make them both wince.  She started jumping and turned to Juleka, throwing her arms around her neck and hopping onto her.  Luka laughed as Ivan nodded, saying he was in, and whistled to catch Rose’s attention.  “Ok, ok!  Rose, since this is your band…what should we call ourselves, anyway?”
“How about…” Rose hummed, tapping on her chin as she looked up.  She looked back at Luka with a manic grin, snapping her fingers.  “Kitty Section!  And I have just the song to debut at the festival!”
“…o…k,” Luka said, nodding.  “I can roll with that.  Heard weirder names.  Do we even want to know what the song’s about?”
Rose’s grin was as dangerous as ever, her eyes lighting up in a way they had all learned to be wary of over the years.
“Unicorns.”
