This is a nice little note though...with Yamamoto out of commission, Unohana is the senior officer, and considering Central 46 is still defunct she more or less has temporary authority over all Soul Society.

So her gesture here of calling the Visoreds her “friends” isn’t just being friendly, its an official bit of outreach-- a sign that, if they do choose to return to Soul Society, they will be welcomed. And it’s not an invitation that Shinji can easily turn down, after she just saved the life of his most defiant comrade.
