One mouldy mushroom on the log. These are from my visit to Kyoto in 2016. Probably one of the rust-gills - Gymnopilus, but I never did get a solid id.

Very tentative ID as Gymnopilus sapineus, but there are so many similar-looking mushrooms and this photo doesn't show enough detail to be sure.

took the bus up to the library to get a new sticker for my map and the librarian also helped replace my library card :))
then i walked up some more to a hill that is a park and walked around it twice looking for mushrooms - found a handful on the slopes (very muddy and slippery)
then i walked down to another park and a little farm and next to the farm and a stand of pine trees i hit PAYDIRT

Today is scaly rustgill. Its genus name, Gymnopilus, means naked or bald cap. It is inedible and possibly poisonous! Like growing on dead pines.

Challenge for you: learn about psilocybin mushrooms because they're very cool and interesting (don't take them)
hm. OK.
Psilocybin mushrooms, commonly known as magic mushrooms, are a polyphyletic informal group of fungi that contain psilocybin which turns into psilocin upon ingestion. Biological genera containing psilocybin mushrooms include Psilocybe, Panaeolus, Inocybe, Pluteus, Gymnopilus, and Pholiotina.
