2. Sanchi rises

The Sanchi Stupa is located in Raisen and is said to have been built between the 3rd and 2nd centuries BC. The symbolic representation of the Buddha and his ideologies is unique and something that every traveler will appreciate in this place. 

The stupa was built by Ashoka, the greatest Mauryan king after he converted to Buddhism. It has been renovated several times. It was also built around 1912 by Sir John Marshall. The national emblem of India, known as the Ashok Chakra, is taken from the Ashok Pillar in Sanchi. 

Built after Ashoka's death, the gates have carvings depicting important Buddhist scenes such as Buddha's enlightenment, first sermon, the siege of Kushinagar, Emperor Ashoka's visit to the Bodhi tree, etc. Ashoka's Sanchi Stupa is located 120 kilometers from Bhopal. Visitors can enter from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The ticket price is INR 40 for adults and INR 600 for international tourists. The main attraction is the old statues and the four gates. 

3. Gwalior Fort

The tall towers and blue exterior tiles give the fort a classic royal charm. A part of this fort that attracts many tourists is the Tamarind tree planted by Tansen. Legend has it that whoever eats a leaf from this tree gets a sweet voice. Other attractions of this fort include the statues of Jain Tirthankars, Gujari Mahal, Karan Mahal, Man Mandir Palace, Jauhar Kund, and Suraj Kund and to tickle your funny bones, the Saas-Bahu Temple. 

It takes about 4-5 hours to fully explore the fort. Visitors can enter from 6:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The entry fee for an Indian adult is 75 INR and 40 INR for children. Foreigners have to spend INR 250 to enter the fort. Gwalior Fort is indeed one of the best historical places to visit in Madhya Pradesh.

4. Orchha Fort

Orchha is a less explored jewel in the state. The town was established in the Bundelkhand region by the Bundela chieftain Rudra Pratap sometime around the 16th century. The age-old fort of Orchha still stands tall on an island at the banks of Betwa.

The most popular attractions of this fort include the Jehangir Mahal and Sawan Bhadon Mahal built by Vir Singh Deo, Sheesh Mahal, Dauji ki Kothi, and Baba ki Gufa, and Hardaul ki Haveli. A unique thing to know about the locals of this area is that they consider Lord Rama as their king, while the Bundelas who established the town are worshipped as demigods. Maqbool Fida Husain, a.k.a. M.F.Husain, was one of the most celebrated and influential Indian contemporary artists who have had a large influence on India's modern art scene. His paintings were known for its subject matter and bold choice of colours.

Known as the ‘Picasso of India’, M.F.Husain’s paintings were diverse with their themes, mainly referring to influential personalities and relics of India. But, without a doubt, his most precious gift to Ahmedabad was the Amdavad ni Gufa which he designed along-side architect B.V.Doshi.

AND THIS CITY HAS THE POTENCY TO MAKE ANYONE FEEL LIKE SO.

The capital of Madhya Pradesh and home of about 1.8m people.  Habituated by Parmar king Bhoj who founded the city in the 11th century and named it Bhojpal. The princely rule was established by Sardar Dost Mohammad Khan who became the first Nawab of Bhopal.

This city is enriched with serene lakes, hillocks, parks, verdancy, wildlife, art, and culture. It has a distinct history replete with the stories of prince and princess. Remains of stone and copper ages in and around Bhopal are evidence that there was a lovable workplace for rules of Maurya, Shunga, Kushana and Gupta periods.

The placid lakes: upper and lower lakes of Bhopal have enhanced its splendor and magnificence giving it an individual identity. The anecdote of its beauty can be found in many poets’ poems like Allama Iqbal. Even the ruthless change of times was unable to put a stain on the physical beauty of Bhopal lakes.

The upper lake was constructed in 1011 AD by king Bhoj. It is 31.5 km long and 5km wide. The sunrise and sunset from the boat view is like a visual treat for eyes

 The lower lake in the southeast of the upper lake constructed by Nawab Hayat Muhammad khan’s diwan Chhote Khan. 

These lakes are indeed the nucleus of the city which is bordered along their shores stand silent custodian that testifies to the growth of the city.

Bhopal can boast of great historical happenings which have definitely left its mark on the art and culture. It speaks of a rich heritage and part of the region.

BHARAT BHAWAN: Described as the ‘house of arts’ by the then prime minister Smt. Indira Gandhi, it came into being on February 13, 1982. It is a unique center of multi-arts and was constructed under the guidance of the world renowned architect Charles Correa. It is divided into four sections

·      Vagarth- it has a rich library of Indian language poetry and anthologies of world’s famous poets.

·      Rupankar – The museum of the tribal folk artist with a record room having rare books on tribal art.

·      Anhad-It displays the rich heritage of Indian classical, tribal and folk music.

·      Rangmandal- A full time repertory dedicated to the task of enlightening the young artist about technical aspects of theatre and drama.

INDIRA GANDHI NATIONAL MUSEUM-  National museum of man provides a mirror of the culture of various tribes of India. Models of their huts, gods, goddesses, shrines have been displayed here.

STATE ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM-  This museum has galleries which preserve documents of the nawabi period; photos, bronze made idols of gods. The art gallery displays art pieces pots and images.

One of the most prominent features of Bhopal art and culture are its chowks lined with old mosques and havelis. The art of zari work is predominant here for more than 300 years. This industry has also seen the royal elite days of the great emperors.

Apart from all these, what makes Bhopal more special? What makes its culture and art so rich and distinguished from others ? It is the remarkable equilibrium it maintains between Hindu and Muslim cultures.

The temples and mosques of Bhopal are famous for their architecture and natural sites.

·      BIRLA MANDIR- Constructed in 1964 by Ganga Prasad Birla, it is one of the most famous temple here. Huge images of Lord Vishnu and goddess Laxmi are enshrined in sanctum of the temple.

·      GUFA MANDIR- It is situated near lalghati on a hill. Late Baba Narayandas discovered it in 1949.

·      The GURUDWARA along hamidia road is also very famous. It was constructed in 1983.

The mosques built up during princely rule have historic and archaeological importance.

·      The ‘Crown of mosques’ or popularly known as TAJ-UL-MASJID is the largest mosque in the country and it also happens to be second largest in Asia.

The foundation stone was laid by the princess Shahjehan begum in 1871 AD.

·      Out to one’s surprise, this fascinating city is also home to Asia’s smallest mosque –DHAI SEEDHI KI MASJID. Initially built as a make shaft mosque during the construction of the Fatehgarh fort started by Dost Mohammad Khan.

Balkrishna Doshi Wins RIBA Gold Medal for Architecture 2022

9th of December 2021 – The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) is pleased to announce that Balkrishna Doshi will receive the Royal Gold Medal 2022, one of the world’s highest honours for architecture.

Given in recognition of a lifetime’s work, the Royal Gold Medal is approved personally by Her Majesty The Queen and is given to a person or group of people who have had a significant influence on the advancement of architecture. It has been awarded since 1848 and will be presented to Balkrishna Doshi at a special ceremony in 2022.

With a 70 year career and over 100 built projects, Balkrishna Doshi has influenced the direction of architecture in India and its adjacent regions through both his practice and his teaching. His buildings combine pioneering modernism with vernacular, informed by a deep appreciation of the traditions of India’s architecture, climate, local culture and craft.

His projects include administrative and cultural facilities, housing developments and residential buildings. He has become internationally known for his visionary urban planning and social housing projects, as well as his work in education, both in India and as a visiting professor at universities around the world.

Born in 1927 in Pune, India, to an extended family of furniture makers, Balkrishna Doshi

studied at the J J School of Architecture, Bombay, before working for four years with Le Corbusier as Senior Designer (1951-54) in Paris and four more years in India to supervise projects in Ahmedabad. He worked with Louis Kahn as an associate to build the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, and they continued to collaborate for over a decade. He founded his own practice, Vastushilpa in 1956 with two architects. Today Vastushilpa is a multi-disciplinary practice with five partners spanning three generations and has sixty employees. The practice invites dialogue and its philosophy of pro-active participation even applies to their office space – which has an open door, inviting passers-by to drop in.

Doshi’s key projects include: Shreyas Comprehensive School Campus (1958-63), Ahmedabad, India; Atira Guest House (1958), Ahmedabad, low cost housing; the Institute of Indology (1962), Ahmedabad, a building to house rare documents; Ahmedabad School of Architecture (1966, with additions until 2012)  – renamed CEPT University in 2002 –  which focused on creating spaces that promoted collaborative learning; Tagore Hall & Memorial Theatre (1967), a 700 seat Brutalist auditorium in Ahmedabad; Premabhai Hall (1976), Ahmedabad, India, former theatre and auditorium; Indian Institute of Management in Bangalore (1977 – 1992), a business school; Sangath (1981), the studio for his architecture practice, Vastu Shilpa; Kanoria Centre for Arts (1984), an arts and creative hub; Aranya Low Cost Housing (1989), Indore, India, which won the Aga Khan Award for Architecture in 1995 and Amdavad ni Gufa (1994), a cave-like art gallery that exhibits the work of artist Maqbool Fida Husain.

On hearing the news that he will receive the Royal Gold Medal in 2022, Balkrishna Doshi said:

“I am pleasantly surprised and deeply humbled to receive the Royal Gold Medal from the Queen of England. What a great honour! The news of this award brought back memories of my time working with Le Corbusier in 1953 when he had just received the news of getting the Royal Gold Medal. I vividly recollect his excitement to receive this honour from Her Majesty. He said to me metaphorically, ‘I wonder how big and heavy this medal will be.’  Today, six decades later I feel truly overwhelmed to be bestowed with the same award as my guru, Le Corbusier – honouring my six decades of practice. I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to my wife, my daughters and most importantly my team and collaborators at Sangath my studio.”

“It was an honour and a pleasure to chair the committee in selecting Balkrishna Doshi as the 2022 Royal Gold Medallist. At ninety-four years old he has influenced generations of architects through his delightfully purposeful architecture. Influenced by his time spent in the office of Le Corbusier his work nevertheless is that of an original and independent thinker – able to undo, redo and evolve. In the twentieth century, when technology facilitated many architects to build independently of local climate and tradition, Balkrishna remained closely connected with his hinterland: it’s climate, technologies new and old and crafts.

In recognition of his distinguished contribution as a professional and as an academician, Balkrishna Doshi was made a Foreign Honorary Member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters in 2021.  He is the recipient of the Padma Bhushan, Government of India (2020); The Pritzker Architecture Prize (2018); the French Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (2011); Global Award for Lifetime Achievement for Sustainable Architecture, Institut Francais d’Architecture, Paris (2007); Prime Minister’s National Award for Excellence in Urban Planning and Design, India (2000); Aga Khan Award for Architecture (1993-1995) and the Gold Medal, Academy of Architecture of France (1988).

Citation on Balkrishna Doshi by the 2022 RIBA Honours Committee:

Balkrishna Vithaldas Doshi has been practising architecture and designing and delivering outstanding buildings and places for over seventy years. Trained in Mumbai he began practice in Europe working closely with Le Corbusier. He returned to India in his late twenties to help supervise Corbusier’s projects in Ahmedabad before setting up his own studio to work collaboratively with Louis Kahn on the Indian Institute of Management campus, also in Ahmedabad.

His personal influence as a practitioner and educator has grown from there. Through his teaching and his practice he has helped define the direction of architecture in India and much of the adjacent regions. But even more importantly his development of and advocacy for an architectural language of material economy and elegance and delight – is ever more relevant to all architects working in today’s challenging times. Doshi is a visionary constructor of ideas who works with form and light. He is also a constructor of an appropriate vernacular for and of the places in which he works.

His many wonderful buildings celebrate the local technologies and crafts as well as the natural habitat to create environments that are legible, hard-working backdrops joyfully accommodating the theatre of everyday life. Once visited and studied it is soon apparent that they are also wonderful essays in the careful interplay of formal themes and technologies. Importantly building and nature are always intertwined to create a brave, confident and on occasion challenging architecture of purpose and delight. Architecture as background and foreground.

Doshi, now in his nineties, works every day and remains as prolific as he is inspirational. A living testament to the potential of an architectural history of ideas, passed through practice and education from one generation to the next. An architecture that is always evolving to help define a better future.

Pritzker Laureate Padma Bhushan Balkrishna Doshi, OAL, AAAL was born in Pune in August 26th, 1927 to an extended Hindu family of furniture makers. After initial architectural study at the J J School of Architecture, Bombay, he worked for four years with Le Corbusier as Senior Designer (1951-54) in Paris and four more years in India to supervise the latter’s projects in Ahmedabad.

Doshi also worked with Louis Kahn as an associate to build the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, and they continued to collaborate for over a decade. He founded his own practice, Vastushilpa in 1956 with two architects. Today Vastushilpa has five partners spanning three generations and has sixty employees. Together they have completed more than 100 projects since the inception of the firm.

Doshi also established the Vastu-Shilpa Foundation for Studies and Research in Environmental Design to evolve indigenous design and planning standards for built environments appropriate to the socio-cultural and environmental milieu of India.

Prof. Doshi is equally known as educator and an institution builder. As an academician, Prof. Doshi has been visiting the U.S.A. and Europe since 1958 and has held important chairs in American Universities.

Doshi has been a member on the Jury of several international and national competitions including the Indira Gandhi National Centre for Arts, Steering Committee of Aga Khan Award for Architecture and Pritzker Architecture Prize.

Folge 94 und was ein Zufall, dass ich die Folge an Halloween schaue. So passend :D Auch ne gute Folge. Könnte ich diesmal sogar besser wahrgenomme haben. Ich mag das Setting bei der Illusion, die Farben und wie da eine gewisse Dramatik war, weil erstens die Schwester von Lana on den Geistern entführt werden und diese Illusion gegen die Gruppe ist und wie jeder dann seine eigenen Probleme in seiner Szene hat. Mallow und Mamane zu viel gegessen und kraftlos, Lillie und Co sind Puppen geworden und Lana und Lola haben erkannt, dass sie eventuell nicht mehr aus der Illusion kommen, wenn sie nicht was unternehmen. Folge fing gang lustig an und so und dann war da doch Spannung später. Auch der OST passend dafür. Ich mag auch die Farben in der Folge. Hab ich damals auf twitter gelesen,s elbst für mich erkannt und darauf achte ich dann immer in der Folge

TOGEDEMARU MANN! Wie es einfach auf Mimi-tan springt, es weg ist und Toge dann einfach geht. Wie süß und brainafk das einfach ist.

Ich find es lustig wie Lola einen GEIST mit Mimigma hat, aber die Wortspiele von Eich schocken sie dann doch noch :D Geister ist sie gewöhnt, aber nicht PUNS

Das ist eig schon recht niedlich wie sie das macht und immer hin und her. War sogar ein ECHTES Gufa. Dachte das sei ein prob :D

Es bedeutet nichts gutes wenn ein Geist PKMN Angst hat und schockiert ist. Selbst Lola ist weniger beeindruckt

Fand das so die Szenen, die für Spannung sorgen. Dass die treppen einstürzen, die Charaktere gehindert werden und so. Dadurch, dass eben gesagt wurde, dass Geister Menschen wegschnappen können, war da schon ein plot. Hab ich wohl nie so vernommen, aber diesmal schon

Ja, das sind so Shots, die zu ihr passen, aber dennoch niedlich

DIE RUHE IN PERSON :D Ich fand die Darstellung immer lustig. So niedlich, wie Puppen irgendwie. Und wie sie erstmal warten für das. wie auch immer. Ist halt so

Deswegen fand ich die Folge von den Farben schön. Weil da so eine Art Filter ist und zb die Schattierung auch anders wirkt. Auch die normalen Shots haben so einen Filter und es wirkt leicht anders. ist das überhaupt etwas, auf das man achten sol? Mag ich jedenfalls

Och wie süß irgendwie

Teufel und Engel. Sind so Dinge, die einfach für sie etabliert worden sind. Und dann extra niedlich, wenn alle schauen. Sogar mit so Glanz effekt :D

Sogar Popplio ist in ANGST vor Lanas ernster Seite. Aber Hauptsache strahlen, wenn man sie sieht. So richtig Teufel und Engel halt.
