Ashton has low-key become the Little Black Dress of this party. Introspective heart-to-heart with Orym. Only accepts physical contact from Orym. "Into it!" Fearne told him his crystal smashy head situation was beautiful. Bonded with Fearne over their shared love of petty theft. Kiss on the cheek from Dorian. Little hammer-based crush on Annelise. Wants to fuck the Nightmare King. Wants to double-date the Nightmare King with Laudna. Carried Laudna's body while in constant pain. Drunkenly threatened to kill Laudna's familiar if it was secretly evil. I can’t really think of any Ashton/Imogen moments but I kinda think Imogen is only interested in girls anyway. It’s bad enough that he has to have his arms covered. It’s worse that it doesn’t seem to do shit.
Eiselcross is fucking cold. Not the kind of cold they’re used to; the wind on a desert night or the damp of a winter rain that lingered too long in the hollow. This cold burrows into his flesh, even through his right arm which could barely feel anything anymore.
“You okay, buddy?” Dorian comes up beside them, perfect fucking hair somehow catching the wind just right to not blow into his face.
Ashton shook his head. “I’m not fucking built for this. Everything about me craves heat. I know we need to do it…” They glance at Orym, bundled in furs at the head of the group, moving steadily along one step at a time. “…but it fucking sucks. Fearne did a thing, but it wore off pretty quick, and I can’t just ask her to keep doing it. I mean, it’s fine; not really that much worse than the day-to-day, y’know.”
“You don’t need to play the tough guy act for me; I’m not cut out for this, either.” He stops abruptly, and Ashton comes to a stop beside him. “Thought I could try a thing, too.” The wind suddenly shifts, and it’s not quite warm, but certainly a little closer to comfortable. “I kind of feel bad that I can’t cover everyone with this but I should be able to keep it up for the two of us as long as you stay close.”
“I mean, Chet used to live in a place like this, Fearne’s half covered in fur and connected to the fire plane, and those two manage to keep each other warm, somehow.” He looks at Orym again but doesn’t need to say what they’re both thinking; that he won’t stop until it’s impossible to keep moving.

Hello :3 greystorm is so fun thank you for listening to my ramblings
I still think about Dorian healing Ashton with a kiss on the cheek. I wonder what was going on inside Ashton's head at that moment
They didn't interact a lot before that, then Dorian left, so he must have been surprised and he didn't even have time to figure out how he felt about it... Ashton who avoids physical touch because it hurts, healed with a soft, innocent kiss
And in the aftermath of Ratanish too.. where they got hurt because they wanted someone to NOTICE his pain
Dorian who tells him he's needed, who seems to trust him to protect the group while he's gone
Ashton feeling off kilter in his absence, like there's a question left unanswered, waiting for Dorian to come back and make it make sense
it is!! i am more than happy to listen and provide my own ideas <3
WAILS CRIES SOBS... ashton is so shocked and confused by it, and dorian acts like it wasn't a big deal, as if he hadn't just *kissed their cheek* to heal them.
ashton asks about it and dorian's just like "why wouldn't i?" and leaves it at that which leaves ashton all confused and frustrated
and then dorian LEAVES and leaves ashton having to think it over on their own, and he has to confront feelings after a while and really wishes dorian would come back so they could actually talk about it.
tldr: ashton starts to pine for dorian because of a stupid cheek kiss
