Warnings: Sex While Sick
Essek has been bailing Kingsley out of legal trouble in Rosohna and letting him crash at his towers for some time and the pair have grown close. When Essek falls severely ill, Kingsley with him to look after him. Things escalate between them, which both are pleased about. There's just one complication, in the form of one Caleb Widogast, who Essek has recently begun a relationship with and who Kingsley has been hopelessly pining after for months. Things get messy.
Reccer Says: A wonderful combination of fun dynamics, messy relationship angst, sickfic goodness, and hot sex. Kingsley and Essek are such a good pair, I love their banter. The absolutely disastrous state of King and Caleb's relationship at the start is the fic is so heartaching, with the shadow of past Widomauk hanging over them. And the recently established Shadowgast compliments both of those duos so well!!! I adore the different complications that crop up along the way and the way they're all resolved in the end. Highly recommend! Also, the two previous entries in the series are excellent, though they're just Shadowgast on their own.

Set during the events of Kith & Kin, Vax's first kiss with Thorn leads to his first time with him. All the while, the shadow of the Shademaster hangs over them.
Reccer Says: I adore Kith & Kin to no end and I loved Vax and Thorn's relationship. This is a fun expansion of what they were able to have together during the events of the book!

Yussa invites Iskamyr, a long-time friend of his from the Dynasty, on a trip into the Happy Fun Ball with him. Both are oblivious to the other's long-standing feelings for them. Pining ensues.
Reccer Says: There is no fic that demonstrates the absurdity of wizards better than this. Two hundred years!!! These idiots pined over each other for two hundred years!!! Oh my god! It's great, it's so great. They're both 1200 years old (Yussa is a dragon and Iskamyr is consecuted) and they're still terrible at feelings. But also! A lot of it comes down to cultural misunderstandings, like Iska doesn't know until the fic ends that Yussa is a dragon and if he did, maybe he would've caught on to Yussa's affection sooner. But he didn't and it took the two of the forever and honestly I love that for them.

After his wizards Teleport into the middle of the Blooming Grove, nearly dead at the hands of an Aeorian creature, Molly has a lot of feelings about his partners and their mysterious city in the north. Luckily, he has a simple solution in mind.
Reccer Says: It's the perfect balance between sweet and angsty. I love Shadowidomauk so much and it's fun to see someone look at how the wizards Aeor expeditions might look in a world where they're dating Molly too! Also, Moonweaver cleric Molly is too damn perfect, I love it so much.

Reccer Says: I love this series so much and this entry in particular has stuck with me since I first read it!! QPP circus kids are kind of everything to me and this is just such a perfect little snippet of them; they’re hurting but they love and take care of each other above anything.

Yes, it means we miss one or two ships that are popular side pairings, but it keeps us focused on the rarest ships. In the spirit of the exchange, we also ask that we prioritize ships other than the most popular pairing in the Candela section.

Everything is perfectly in character in the most painful of ways, it truly feels like this could be the fight that led to their divorce in canon. Quay’s reflection on the state of their relationship, the mistakes he’d made along the way, how deeply he loves Laerryn, the cultural differences between them and the misunderstandings because of them, all just *chef’s kiss*

Fjord Tusktooth: Pact of the Sugar Baby by Demenior (23,529 words, Explicit)
Pairing: Fjord/Original Male Character
Warnings: None
In order for the Nein to successfully pull of a heist, Fjord sets about seducing the lord he and his friends are robbing. He’s exactly Fjord’s type, though there’s one complication; he’s a dragon. And it takes Fjord a little while to catch on.
A heist gone wrong leaves Fjord seducing the Nein's mark - and that mark is a dragon.
Reccer 1 Says: Excellent Fjord characterization, a delight of an OC, chaotic Nein shenanigans, and extremely hot dragon sex make this fic (and the entire series) an extremely fun read. Highly recommend reading all of it, the way the relationship between Fjord and Gairdneri develops is especially wonderful, imo.
Reccer 2 Says: This fic is SO fun! Demenior does a fantastic job capturing the voices of all of the characters, and the sex is hot too.

And Mairon is an absolute delight, I'm obsessed with him. His banter and bickering with Verin is so good, I love these two so much. They really do make such a good couple. And plot... the dreams Verin's been having... rattling the bars of my cage, I have so many questions in the best of ways. Add on the wizards as supporting cast, it's just a brilliant story and I adore it.

Reccer Says: It's hot, it's fun, these two are so severely underrated and it's always great to see fic of them. Side fic to a MUCH larger fic but tbh it can easily be read without having read the main fic. One of my favorite bits, the things Verin mutters to himself in the second chapter while he and Wulf are together are so fun.

Reccer Says: Where to even start? The dynamic between Essek and Wulf is sooooo deliciously messy and fucked, I’m obsessed. The history there, the contempt, Essek worrying if Wulf is going to kill him. Wondering if Wulf genuinely missed him. And Wulf giving Essek hell for the Nein making him soft!! Don’t get me wrong, I love a good malewife Wulf (cannot believe I really just typed that out) but seeing him with his teeth bared here is SO good. He’s a very dangerous man who’s spent half his life as a heavily indoctrinated assassin! Of course he wouldn’t like Essek going soft and seeking redemption. But the way it ties up at the end, what Essek says… god it’s delicious. Also, it must be said. The sex is very very hot. Esswulf size difference my beloved.

Reccer Says: Firstly, the author says in their opening notes that the fic probably isn’t comprehensible without having read the work it’s inspired by but I disagree. Everything is laid out very well, aided by the first chapter being a run-down of the war. The format is very fun. Ashton and Imogen’s relationship is so complicated and messy. The weight of the history and grief there is just heartaching and I’m obsessed with it.
