Not to get pedantic (oh who am i kidding that’s most of this blog) but I am genuinely fascinated by the potential applications of the established canon in HoO and TOA that the gods canonically have both historic and regional forms, and can appear as specific versions of those forms and have kids of those specific forms, which influence what powers the kid has/what pantheon they fall under/etc etc (and also the implication that demigods can be born under multiple forms of a singular deity). This is somewhat backed up even earlier in the first series when we’re told that Percy has earthquake powers because of his father being Poseidon “The Earthshaker” (which is Mycenaean Poseidon) - which could also tie into why Percy generally takes leadership roles, is hopping in and out of the Underworld a lot, and is apparently particularly powerful for even just a Big 3 kid, since all that would line up with Mycenaean Poseidon being generally put at the head of the pantheon and also being a chthonic deity.

Now this gets really interesting when we start looking at deities being combined and conflated, because a.) the Romans weren’t the only ones doing that and b.) the Romans had their own gods originally, they didn’t just take the Greek ones and slap a new name on them. They merged a lot with their own preexisting deities alongside adopting worship of deities from other cultures as the Romans spread (and the Greeks also did this), and c.) the ancient Greeks and Romans did exist at the same time.

Like, we know in terms of the Greeks and Romans that if their godly parents are “equivalent” then their demigod children are siblings, just like if Greek demigods have the “same” godly parent then they are also siblings. However, very few Greco-Roman gods are one-to-one, and a lot are like three gods in a trench coat, and then if you want to get into historical forms then you can start running into weird things like “Well, if you go back far enough, these two Greek gods may have originated from the same thing-” and also if we’re talking historical forms, again, the Greeks and Romans existed at the same time! Which means there would be historic forms of godly parents that are both Greek and Roman! So like, where do we go from there? Would Hazel be equally siblings to a child of Plutus as she is to Nico because both Hades and Plutus were conflated into Pluto? Orcus was also conflated with Pluto - does that mean when Nico killed Bryce Lawrence, he was killing his half-brother? (cause then that parallels just a couple chapters later when Will faces off against Octavian-) Are there demigods who, depending on their godly parents’ form(s), are technically both a Greek and Roman demigod? If Hermes and Pan possibly originated from the same god, does that mean all the satyrs are siblings with the Hermes kids? If we want to get into all the nonsense of Dionysus’ origins and Zagreus and Hades, does that mean Nico is technically siblings with Dionysus kids? Does Dionysus joke about this during their therapy sessions? Are some demigods in certain cabins siblings with kids in other cabins but each others’ siblings aren’t siblings depending on what form their godly parents were in?

Is it just me or do Percy Jackson fans have this habit of poking nose in anything greek mythology related thinking they know a lot because they read works of fiction based on it?

Had a weird Hollow Knight-related dream a couple days ago, so I decided to draw a major scene I remembered from it dgsgshf

#hollow knight #little ghost #hk ghost #the knight #hk hornet #hornet #alright. as of writing these tags it's been a week since the original dream so! let's see what i remember dgsgsgf #i was playing a game. which was a sequel to hollow knight ((Not silksong though))#there was some new sort of divine infection in hallownest and hornet had asked ghost to investigate it. they ended the last one after all!#the red glowy spike gate thingy is what you jumped into to enter the 'infected' areas #though it actually led directly to a hub world type of place. which was kinda like an expanded base for the grimm troupe?#more like an entire lair instead of a camp. also some greek gods were there for some reason lmao. they had their own special rooms too #so sidenote but- new headcanon that there are grimm troupe members named ares athena artemis &... venus lmao. not aphrodite for some reason #also monomon was there?? i think??? except she was cooking????? she had a sidequest to deliver something to someone though i dunno hdgfhdgh #i remember going back to the grimm troupe lair a couple times throughout my 'playthrough'#anyway. the 'infection' this time around was more of a glitchy physical corruption thing? rather than a mind corruption.#though there were still aggressive enemies to fight. but i remember getting a map from cornifer early on and he was. probably infected #i think part of his body was covered in electricity or something? so he wasn't fully visible? but he was still acting normally #there was also a moth who was the seer but then later wasn't the seer (but was still the same moth) dghgdhf. i delivered stuff to her #that glowing white wall thing in the drawing was like a one-way gate. you could only cross it from the other side and ghost came from there #i guess things looped back up somehow i dunno ghdgfhgf #anyway. ghost's red eyes. those are significant! those happened while i was walking through a corridor. it had pools of shallow water #(shallow enough to just walk through) and also creatures that were lightseeds but red.the implication was that they were full of Blood lmao #and as i went along killing them--as one does--as i walked through the hall. they started turning the water red too #there was also narration about this as it was happening ashdgsf. specifically the narrator said the water turned red before it actually did #ghost's eyes slowly turned red too. but aside from that they were fine! since. they're the player character and the player is perfectly fin #BUT. when they encountered hornet again. she thought they were infected. and that she lost the only family she had left </3 #she didn't attack though. instead she just jumped into the red spike gate without a word. decided to try to fix everything herself #but eventually you'd encounter her again down below and she'd fight you. didn't actually get to that in the dream though #aand i'm out of tags </3 i wanted to talk about what i'd do to make this make more sense as an au or something now that i'm awake but. :c

So he ended up having far more Greek inspiration than I originally planned. Whoops. My thought process was if I was gonna make this character a harpy, then I wanted some connections to Greek mythology. His name comes from the word xenia, an ancient Greek concept of hospitality. It's also a reference to Zeus as he was sometimes called Zeus Xenios due to his role as a protector of strangers. I also went with the Zeus reference because I wanted to give him lightning magic. The nickname from Rook comes from a drink called absinthe, which has wormwood as an ingredient. It was called "the green fairy" in various literature. He's frequently called Magpie because of his stealing collecting random objects, mostly shiny ones.

What gets me about certain people being so fucking pissy about Bob not writing much about Eilistraee (until the last fucking trilogy where EIlistraeans featured heavily) is that

a) Bob basically built drow culture up from almost nothing, and Eilistraee came after he started writing Drizzt

b) no you guys really don't understand. I own the first 4 modules drow appeared in. There's... not much there. And it hasn't aged well.

c) and the Big One: he has a specific vision for his specific characters when it comes to the narrative he wants to explore, from sexual abuse to religious trauma, both of which are fucking complicated and for most people just switching deities isn't enough to fix that.

I have religious trauma that I still struggle with to this day and probably will for the rest of my life to some extent, and it's fundamentally different in nature from what most people would probably expect, and the thing is even though I am happily polytheistic and very enthusiastically into it, I still struggle a lot with certain things because every time I get into my religious practice I have to actively force myself into (or out of) certain things because my whole relationship to religion and spirituality is complicated and messy.

It would be easy and frankly incredibly superficial for Bob to decide to just have them all convert to half-assed Neowiccan ~woo~ drow Jesus Eilistraee to *~*save their souls*~* and call it a day

BUT HE DIDN'T DO THAT

Partly because she wasn't his creation and other authors were writing her at the time so he really couldn't, and partly because it's a shitty message to send.

Sometimes people benefit from converting to a new religion or following a new deity. Sometimes people don't.

I benefited from gradually converting to my religion, but it's come with a whole different set of complications and hasn't been a smooth journey for me.

Just going from extensive religious trauma to switching deities does not fix your problems, and for a lot of people it realistically can make them much worse.

you don't have to be saved by a deity in order to have value as a person

#I fucking WAS saved by a deity and while I'm grateful it wasn't an easy ride #and in fact the way certain people in my family treated me was very emotionally abusive #to this fucking day on a journey that's taken me 19 years I STILL have issues with this whole thing #there are some people I may never speak to again because of how they treated me over this #for a Lolthite drow I could easily see them struggling with switching to a new deity especially one like Eilistraee or Vhaeraun #who are NOT seen very positively at all in the society they were raised in #and for a lot of people the fear of being found out and punished is more than enough to prevent them from seeking out a new deity #to say nothing of the already existing religious trauma that would also just as likely make someone hesitate to embrace a new religion #and speaking AS a religious person I do not at all agree with sending the message that traumatize people need to be saved by a god #or by a religious fanatic #my case is extremely unique and while it more or less worked out in the end it was frankly hellish at its worst points #and it cost me a great deal in terms of my relationships with my family and my ability to trust other people #because the way society frames belief in the Greek gods as some distant thing in time like #'haha these people were so STUPID. they believed in gods that turn into swans and stuff'#has absolutely led to a situation where paganism is only cool and okay if it's the woo crystals and sage Neowiccan aesthetic #but actually being a historically based polytheist is conflated with mental illness #and it's damn near impossible to challenge when most modern people have NO understanding of polytheism and take everything literally #as someone who has had to FIGHT just to continue EXISTING as a polytheist I am still FIRMLY against the idea that people NEED religion #in order to have value as people or to heal #yes for SOME people it works. for others it doesn't. AND THAT'S OKAY

Computer: UNSC tag detected. Designation: Friendly.

"Chief." Echo-216, Fernando Esparza, excitedly called out to Master Chief, John-117. And on cue, he came at his side, standing just next to his pilot seat. "You're not gonna believe this."

He was right. John didn't think that he'll hear a familiar friendly voice on their communications. This is UNSC Captain Thomas Lasky on board on UNSC Apollo.

It wasn't shown throw his helmet but John squinted his eyes and wiped the widow to reveal a Punic-class supercarrier in front of them. Fernando activated a few buttons and the windows started clearing up, giving the two a better picture of the ship. To say that Fernando was starstruck was an understatement.

Friendly, please respond. We are actively reaching out for any remaining and surviving UNSC friendlies from the Battle over Installation 07.

Oh right, this was Fernando's call. Mind you, he was a simple civilian maintenance technician, but before he answered, he gave a look to John. He gave him a simple nod, one that gave Fernando the confidence he needed to reply back.

"This is Echo-216, uh, Fernando Esparza, Captain."

Oh good. Check up by the hanger, pilot. If you don't mind me asking: is there anyone with you?

"Captain." John's stoic, yet calming voice boomed over the comms and afterwards, there was silence.

AND to say that Lasky was shocked is an understatement. He knew that familiar Spartan voice all too well. As the Pelican flew to the underside of Apollo, the two can hear a shaky, but ultimately a relief laugh from Lasky.

Chief. He finally said. You don't know how happy I am to see you back. Both of you should check at the medical bay. I'll send someone to meet you there to help you find the medical bay. Afterwards, come meet me as soon as you can. We got a lot of catching up to do.

That marine would have the day of his life when he found out that Master Chief was alive and kicking. He was flabbergasted to say the least but he managed to direct them to the medical bay where they were checked in like the other survivors.

After that, he also directed them to the ships deck. Where Captain Lasky was at. The ship was eerily quiet, despite the other marines seeing Master Chief with their own eyes and amongst the talk. It was still too quiet for the twos liking. For obvious reasons. That either means there were little survivors or that they were just looking for more.

The marine directed the two in front of a big sliding door. He pressed a button and spoke, "Captain, they're here."

Suddenly, the doors open and the marine let the two enter the deck. There they saw Lasky with the biggest smile on his face.

"Master Chief." He gave him a firm handshake. "Like I said, before it's good to see you."

"Likewise." He said simply. "Is this all of the UNSC?"

"As of now, yes." Lasky had been gathering straggling UNSC escape ships that were either had little to no UNSC personal or an empty ship that was taken and repaired. "Blue team was already aware of Apollo and found me in the nick of time in Zeta Halo. We we're to locate one Spartan on Zeta Halo, but I'm waiting on news of her statis."

Of course, John showed none of that through his armor, but he felt a wave of relief that his team was alive and well still.

Before John could comment on who was the one Spartan, Lasky turned his attention to Fernando. "I thought I recognized you."

Fernando froze for a moment. "Y-You do?"

"Of course." He had taken a quick bio profile check just to make sure it was the same person before the two got back here. "You were the maintenance technician back at Infinity. After you get settled here, we could use your help on the remaining ships we found."

To think that he not only found Master Chief out in the middle of space, but to find a UNSC ship that was just as big as Infinity was the kind of luck you don't usually find these days. And he just so happen to have it.

"Uh, sure." He felt it was going to take a while before he can get used to another ship. If he was honest, he was going to brush up his engineering skills while he's at it.

"Hey, take as long as you need. We also got three or four guys out there working on our ships." He looked over to the marine that was still standing behind the door. "Cadet Perez."

"Yes, Captain?"

"Give a little tour to Esparza to the quarter rooms."

"Yes, sir." Perez smiled at Fernando. "You're gonna love the quarter rooms, Mr. Esparza."

"Oh, really?"

As the two chatted up their way to the quarter rooms, now Lasky can get on into pressing news.

"Who is this Spartan you found, Captain?" John finally asked.

And just before he can respond, he's interrupted again through communications.

Captain Lasky. The voice of one Arbiter, Thel 'Vadam, appeared on screen. There he can see clear as day, Lansky and with a human he once called an enemy: Master Chief. His features showed that he was shocked to see him alive after all, the news did spread that Atriox killed him.

"Arbiter!" Lasky approached the giant screen in front of him and John. "Please tell me you have some good news."

Thel nodded quickly. I've located your Spartan. She is in the ship with me. We are on our way to your ship.

The camera panned to Senior Chief Petty Officer Spartan Kelsey-621 in her signature dull purple colored Spartan armor. She was stiff as a statue and she position she was in looked like she in the middle of falling down. At least 5 UNSC marines were gathered in front of her. One with a tablet was trying to unlock her armor so she can rest properly.

John snapped his head towards the screen and is seen standing next to Lasky. It hurt him to see her in this state, especially when he's been through this before. She looked stuck. Frozen even. She is breathing. Unconscious, but alive. It seems that her armor is in some sort of lock at the moment.

"It's the hydrostatic gel layer." John responded. "It let's us fall from great distances. When we do drop down too far down, it locks up to prevent any movement."

Lasky knew very well that Spartans were known to survive anything they were thrown at them. Master Chief is living proof of that. It still amazed him how far of a fall they can withstand.

"Jesus christ..." Lasky cursed. "She must have fallen two kilometers at least."

"Or more." John added.

Flashback Infinity Log - Zero One - Protect Roland with your life 2559

"Kelsey!"

She turned to Lasky, who was just about to leave into his escape pod. Spartan Palmer was just right beside him. He handed her a small chip that contained Infinity's AI: Roland.

"I want you to guard Roland with your life. I know they are looking for The Weapon, but if they also find out what Roland knows, the Banished use that information to whatever means necessary against whoever gets in their way."

Kelsey had already been acquainted with Roland in the past when she first arrived at Infinity. But she realized that she was now put in the position like John was with Cortana. Nonetheless, she nodded and inserted Roland on the back her her helmet.

"Good luck, Kelsey." He gave her one final nod before entering his escape pod.

Kelsey ran the opposite way, hoping that he can help other marines out of Infinity. "Roland?"

"I'm right here, Kelsey. Tell me what you need."

"Help me locate the surviving Marines and Spartans on Infinity, Roland."

Flashback End Infinity - Protect Roland with your life 2559

Scorrin's Blade will be on their way to your ship. It shouldn't be too long.

"Alright. I'll have my men wait for you when you get here. Thank you, Arbiter. You've been a great help. Do you know if Roland is still with her?"

Yeah. A marine called out, holding out a small chip. The middle of it was bright orange, indicating that he was still in it. Safe and sound. He inserted the clip back into Kelsey's helmet.

Thel looked at John, feeling content that his friend is alive. Master Chief. It is good to see you, my friend.

John gave out a respectful nod. With that the two ended transmission communications.

Scorrin's Blade 2560

"Geez, I don't know why I'm having a tough time with her armor."

"Maybe when she crashed, it's armor got busted?"

The marine who was trying to unlock Kelsey's armor shock his head. "Spartan armor don't just malfunction like-oh!"

Finally, Kelsey's armor unlocked and she laid there limping. One marine patted the other on the shoulder. "Nice job, Charlie."

"Thanks, Sergeant Moore."

"Check for vital signs. I know the Arbiter said that she was unconscious but I want to double check to make sure our Spartan is still with us."

Charlie, the Corpsman of Sergeant Moore's group, checked for any vital signs that would be a serious threat to Kelsey's health. The gel layer took most of the impact. No physical damage done, but Charlie felt something wasn't right.

He moved Kelsey just a bit and tapped one side of her head several times. When she didn't respond to light tough, he grabbed her hand he squeezed it. He felt very light twitching on her hand for just a moment before her hand went limb again.

"Shit."

Everyone on the ship looked directly at Charlie.

"Talk to me, Charlie. What's wrong?"

"Sergeant," Charlie looked at Moore with a concerning look on his face. "Spartan Kelsey is in a coma."

"Damn it. How bad?"

Charlie pressed two fingers on one side of her throat, below her ear. It somewhat eased his worries to know that her heart is still beating, but not by much. "She not responding to light touch, but she just twitched her hand. Like the Arbiter said, she's still breathing. I'd say she's in stage 1, but we'll know more when he send her to the medic bay."

"Then we must hurry."

It's me. Hi. I'm asking about the son of hephaestus!Reki post. It's me.

you ask this as if you dont know about my mad descent back into greek mythology brainrot. But ANYWAY

Reki is a basic choice - building, crafting, creative. Baby boy builds shit from his own two hands, mostly based on experimenting. We see it, he makes his own calculations and tried new and unconventional things, which is giving Hephaestus. Also, there's that imposter syndrome of his or inferiority complex which, while not being a tradition Hephaestus Trait(tm), just gives me Hepheastus vibes. Like this god is essentially the outcast of the Olympians, he got yeeted by his mother off a mountain, is rejected constantly and is just. yeah. Except for Reki it's all in his head because he isn't actually rejected.

Langa is uuuhhhh...... Self indulgent. I wanted Renga to be what Aphrodite and Hephaestus could never be. But also. Dite is beauty and love (and sexuality but whatever). Langa is admired by all (canonically) and is FUCKING PRETTY GODDAMNIT. And I think Langa is a good characterization of Love. And not just person love. Like yes, he loves his friends, he's in love with Reki, but he represents love of an activity, especially once with Reki. Which goes back to what Dite and Hephaestus could never be. Langa, alone, feels nothing. Love, alone, is nothing. Love has to have an object, and Langa's love of skating (and Reki) kinda represents that. Langa's love of sports has a person object. Snowboarding = Oliver. Skating = Reki. And what is Dite? She is love. Langa loves.

Also. Langa is idolized by everyone, something that's heavily associated with Dite. Because of her beauty (because of Langa's beauty on a board), she is idolized and a lot are jealous of her (*cough* Trojan War *cough*). What is Reki? Jealous of Langa because he surpassed him. So Langa being a Dite kid just makes sense. Also he could probably get away with anything he wants if he put in the effort.

And before someone goes BUT APHRODITE IS SEX I think it would be funny for a Dite kid to be asexual. It's just a bit ol' fuck you to the stereotype of Dite kid = sex.

NO IDEA FRIEND. i can throw some numbers and time-frames at ya' and you can do with them as you please:

menelaus and agamemnon helped to get their uncle thyestes back to mycenea for ..... that ..... feast. so they had to be old enough to ..... be trusted out in the world by themselves?? maybe??? 12??? 13??? on aga's part????

they were STILL in mycenea when thyestes and aegisthus did their thing. we don't know how old aegisthus was. but he was. .... old enough to comprehend shit and kill a man???? maybe make him 10????

THEN we have the exile of aga and menelaus. how long were they exiled??? WELL MALALAS SAYS that thyestes ruled for 16 years. so. like. add that on.

THEN aga gets his home back and menelaus marries helen.

menelaus' daughter is NINE when helen leaves so like add that.

JUST THE BE EVEN MORE ANNOYING. malalas says aga ruled for 18 years - did that include the ten years of the war???? or was it 18 years before he left??? ive included it as the trojan war time. cause. god damn.

so lets say menelaus WAS 8 and aga was 13 or smth when hunting down thyestes that would make menelaus like 43 and agamemnon like 48. when the war starts. dilfs on tour
