Another small selection of the various genetically engineered human subspecies that have arisen since humanity took to the stars…
Aquatics: Amphibious human variant designed to live and work underwater for extended periods of time; engineered with a combination of human, pinniped, and cetacean characteristics; most commonly found on Europa and Ganymede.
Hi-Gravs: Squat, hardy human variant designed to survive on high-gravity exoplanets; immensely strong, despite their small size; never call them “space dwarves,” they hate it.
Redrunners: Centaur-like human variant designed to roam the vast, largely unsettled plains of partially-terraformed Mars; created by an infamously eccentric (and ethically challenged,) biotechnology think-tank as a proof-of-concept for radically inhuman body plans.

I'd have preferred a plastic dreadnought or grav tanks, but I suppose a new solo character model is consistent with what we've seen for minor codex updates.
Besides, I don't know if they intend to maintain the bright line between the 30k and 40k armies, but I suspect that the majority of the legacy Custodes range from Forge World is being held back until they get their big Age of Darkness release.

Managed to actually finish a mini today! This one is a 6mm scale Eldar grav tank (regular scale Termagaunt in the last picture for scale). I like it a lot! I think the intended glow effect for the runes might not be as obvious as I would have liked, and the runes themselves leave something to be desired, but I think it’s good. I don’t think I’d be able to paint those runes any better without this guy becoming a real slog, so I’m perfectly happy with them like this. I’ve been really slow to actually get working on my 6mm Eldar army, but this has got my energy flowing for it! Still concerned about how I’m gonna make painting teenier tinier people work, but whatever.

Grave Digger.
In the infinite void, a planet ship drifted. Debris floated idly in space, the remnants of ships and cracked crystal domes that shone in the starlight like scattered jewels lost in the midst of a theft gone wrong. For over 300 years, the Craftworld drifted, alone and in the dark, another casualty of the galaxies genocide against itself until one day a portal flickered and a living Aeldari walked upon the Craftworld once more.
Rishaeron walked through the streets with equal numbness and reverence, clutching his rifle in tense hands and straining not to make a sound lest the ghosts of his people hear the footsteps of the lowly scavenger walking through their streets.
Despite his efforts to not look, he saw the casual horrors of war on a planetary scale in montage. The blown out ruins of support batteries with their crews scattered around them like broken teeth from a bar brawl. Wave Serpent and Falcon Grav tanks scorched with their killing blows still visible like an accusation toward their destroyer. A Wraithlord surrounded by a glut of humanity, the venerable Wraith construct with Ghostglaive skewered through the ground so that it remained kneeling even after death. So many others. But no pulse, no thrum that lay at the heart of living Craftworlds because both the Infinity Circuit and Avatar of Khaine were destroyed.
He descended further.
Passed now where only Exarchs and Farseers tread, Rishaeron saw the prize he was here to reclaim. Near the centre of the world, lay the remains of the Seer Council, Court of the Young King, and the fossilised ruin of the Avatar of Khaine, its roiling boiling visage still one of such deep and purposeful hate that Rishaeron could feel the blood in his own veins begin to simmer.
Kneeling before the now-statue of a once living God to his people, he removed his helmet, weapons and gazed up into the screaming face of death as if in prayer.
"Bloody Handed." He said evenly, aware that these were the first words spoken without his war mask on in weeks. "To thee my bloody undertakings are dedicated and with your gifts will your enemies be struck down."
The Ranger brushed some of the ash from the base of the slain Avatar onto his fingertips and drew them over his forehead before swiftly placing his war mask back on, the dread oath to the God of war and murder now made in the presence of a thousand thousand ghosts. He rose, and found the body of the Autarch nearest the chamber to the Infinity Circuit and in its hand was his quarry.
No words were spoken, and no judgement was given, but still a moments hesitation faded over Rishaeron. Of an entire destroyed Craftworld, every Spiritstone and refugee claimed that could be saved, this was the only treasure to be left behind. Deep in his bones, in the very soul that was Rishaeron Wayfinder, he knew that to take the sword was to cross a boundary he could never return to. He thought of Prince Yriel taking the Spear of Twilight, how Yriel knew such an action would condemn him but doing so to save his Craftworld. He was making no such valiant sacrifice. His sacrifice was to claim this blade in the name of vengeance and vengeance alone.
Rishaeron took a deep breath, wrapped his fingers around the hilt of the blade, and the Shard of Anaris was bequeathed from the hands of one dead warrior to another, sure to join them.

Dazzle pattern Falcon Grav Tank and process
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
1. I base coat black and do not assemble until the last step.
2. I mask using Tamiya tape and Tamiya tape for curves.
3. I rattle can spray seer grey, and then Wraithbone
4. Indulgently peel off the tape.
5. Hit with Matt varnish spray
6. Oil wash (burnt sienna and black)
7. Dab off with a cotton bud and turps.
8. Pin wash, highlights gems etc
For the pilots I replaced the ugly flat top guy head with a guardian helmet. Note: This does not work for the top turret.
I also magnetised the port side heavy weapon. I have arranged the polarity so it is interchangeable with the wave serpent weapons.

A bunch of new units added to my Salamanders army. Gotta actually set up a better picture taking spot with good lighting next time i change up my setup though lol
First is a custom captain model, since i realized i didn't have any sort of tacticus captain for my upcoming crusade. Real happy with how he came together given i was just using bits i had sitting around
Second row is a couple tanks. Since the Firestorm Assault Force focuses on transports, figured i might as well add a few. My chapter definitely primarily uses older vehicles, for sure. I just really don't like the grav tank look
And third row features some legion specific terminators and some fun sternguard veterans! I love the sternguard veteran kit, probably my favorite space marine kit so far

Finished up a Falcon grav-tank, it just needed the black-lining between armor panels, gold highlights, and a canopy. Didn’t take long, not sure what brain-fart on my part 22 years ago caused me to stow this without finishing it.

This week's spotlight is on NORRIE and his comic Flesh & Flora. NORRIE is a comics creator, illustrator and character designer from Scotland. He lives in Dundee, drinks coffee and watches the birds from his window. He has no complaints.(@prehistoricfrog | website | instagram | twitter)
"Flesh & Flora follows two synthetic characters, Gen and Hare, who are doing their best to hold onto their humanity in a strange new world, prompting them to question each other's mortality. The arrival of an unknown species puts their differing perspectives to the test and may jeopardise both characters' very existence."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Read the spotlight below the cut!
NORRIE's goal with Flesh & Flora was to create a book that if he saw, he'd want to pick up straight away. "I love the feeling of picking up a book and that being all I talk about for about six months. That's the essence of comics! I've always been interested in themes of identity and the human consciousness, especially when they are placed onto seemingly non-human characters, and I wanted to use those themes to think about very human concepts like ego and in particular the fabrication of responsibility. to make us feel important and in control of our world.
"I'm also fascinated when people describe the world as a character, like what does that mean? So I wanted to really run with that to an extreme: the world in Flesh & Flora is a character in the way that as nature, it is living and breathing but it's also an amalgamation of undulating flesh and a tangle of pulsating wire, flourishing amongst the flora. I primarily wanted it to be an uncanny image but also work as a sign that this world is evolving and that evolution is a process that takes such a long time, what would it feel like to be amongst those who haven't realised it's happened? This is the position I wanted to show Gen and Hare in really wanting to be able to explore this idea and their reaction to being left behind."
Tumblr media
NORRIE's love of sci-fi, particularly robots and mechs, is clear throughout his work. "Look, I'm a simple little guy. I've got no shame in admitting that. I like cool robots, hot babes and bananas sci-fi. I've spent a lot of time reminding myself it's fine to indulge in these things artistically but basically, I grew up watching Anime vhs's like Bubblegum Crisis, Patlabor, Dominion Tank Police and Ghost in the Shell, and obviously there's a strong Cyberpunk vein running through these films and shows that's very exciting on a visual level to a kid. Once you grow and you revisit these stories there's much more going on, usually these questions of what makes us human, etc. than just the surface level Cyberpunk motifs that are plastered on everything these days.
"I love Headlopper by Andrew Maclean and Apocalyptigirl has had a big influence on me. Homunculus by Joe Sparrow is an incredible comic. I'm constantly thinking about SOMA by Frictional Games and more recently SIGNALIS by rose-engine really struck a chord and has already got me thinking about future stories."
Tumblr media
For aspiring comic creators, NORRIE has this advice: "Focus on what you love. Comics are hard so you should make sure that you are passionate about what you work on, don't try to please other people – there's no pleasing them anyway. If you want to be a creator, you should create for yourself. You'll always have an audience that way. I think people that appreciate good comics can see work that's honest, you don't have to be the best at drawing or be the next flash in the pan creator, just be yourself and don't be intimidated by others. There is always a place for you."
You may also be interested in some of NORRIE's other upcoming work! "I'm currently working on character artwork for the amazing video game AERO GPX. It's a futuristic anti-grav racer in the style of F-Zero but very much with its own twist. It's roughly scheduled for a 2024 release, it looks amazing and you can wishlist it on Steam now!"
You can pick up Flesh & Flora, alongside the other three comics in our 2023 collection, right here on Kickstarter!
