Salad (Adopted!)
Tumblr media
Name: Salad
Species: Sprigatito
Sex: Female
Breed: Standard
Height: 8 in.
Weight: 7 1/2 lbs
Ability: Overgrow
Moveset: Leafage, Scratch, Tail whip, Bite
I know the image looks bad, but Salad is only being grabbed with tongs because a plane flew overhead and it scared her, so she got defensive, and ended up trying to bite me. She's doing fine now, don't worry. But anyway, Salad is a young and timid Sprigatito who likes to keep to herself. While we're working with her to help her gain confidence, it's important for her trainer to do socializing excersizes and all of that stuff. Don't worry too much about her height; she'll grow. She enjoys a lot of grass and greppa berries. If you're interested, reblog this post with your qualifications and reasons for adoption.

Pokemon Variants: Pumpkin
(My favorite Applin line variant!) Pumpkin refers to an Applin who hid in a Pumpkin, and its evolutions ended up resembling one.
Tumblr media
(Not Height accurate)
Applin
Tumblr media
Applin that go into Pumpkins. Since Applin go into the first fruit or vegetable they find, these Applins eggs usually hatch in Pumpkin patches. They're often seen as pests since multiple usually hatch at a time and steal all the Pumpkins. To prevent this, many farmers have made decoy Pumpkin patches away from the main patches I'm hopes that Appletun or Flapple will decide to lay their eggs there instead. Pumpkin Applin are slower than usual but have higher defense.
Appletun
Tumblr media
If their pumpkin has a sweet flavor (or they are given the special item, Pumpkin Sweet), they will evolve into the Pumpkin variant of Appletun. Pumpkin Appletun were bred to look like pumpkin pie, with the shedding on their back even being edible and tasting like pumpkin pie. They're often used for parties and are symbols of autumn. In old Galar, it was tradition to feed Pumpkin Appletun fruit and sweets for Samhain celebrations. They symbolize prosperity, abundance, and protection.
Flapple
Tumblr media
My favorite member of the line. Gives me a mythical forest vibe for some reason. Anyways, Pumpkin Applin evolve into Pumpkin Flapple by choosing a sour pumpkin for protection or eating the Sour pumpkin sweet. While Pumpkin Appletun are seen as a symbol for Autumn, Pumpkin Flapple are symbols of autumn and death. They're also seen as protectors and helping ward away evil spirits. However, they're not loved by everyone, as farmers see them as the worst pests of the line for their quickness and determine to eat their crops.
Dipplin
Tumblr media
Applin evolve into Pumpkin Dipplin when they come across a Juicy Pumpkin, which only grow in Kitakami. They appear the most in the fall, when Pumpkins almost become as plentiful as apples in the region, and they're highly praised there for being a symbol of a good harvest. They're Syrup becomes pumpkin guts, which is thicker and more damaging but less sticky. They're often slower due to their bigger height.
//My designs can be used by anyone if you credit me! If you want, you can request other Applin variants to draw since these were very fun, and it only took around 30 minutes each.

Safe pruning for grass types.
Like any living organism, both plants and plant based pokemon can get ill. Leaf rot, blight, mildew, all of these and more can affect your pokemon. The best and safest way to head off illnesses at the pass is to prune damaged leaves and twigs before they can act as entry points for bacteria and fungi. Though serious illnesses are best seen by a medical professional, I can offer some preventative measures to help. For all of these categories, you should be seeking medical advice as well.
(Disclaimer: I am not a medical professional.)
Petals. Petals are often susceptible to frostbite. Though a potion quickly after a battle helps with ice type attack wounds, weather happens and many a grass type has been caught out in a sudden cold snap long enough for damage to take hold. Excessive moisture or heat can also caught rot on petals.
Signs to watch for: Blackened and withered ends. Browning and wilt along the edges of the petal. A slimy texture and sheen forming. Discolouration in general.
Prevention: Thankfully, petals tend to be more for decoration and rarely have nerve endings. (The bulbasaur line has. Petal damage should be seen by a professional in their case.) Removing the petal entirely can prevent some illnesses, though it may give the pokemon a lopsided appearance until it grows back. Holding your pokemon securely, grasp the petal firmly near the base and give a firm, sharp tug. Too little force may break the petal off near the base and provide a new entry point for rot. Too much force can hurt your pokemon. Once the affected petals are removed, apply a potion and give your pokemon plenty of sun.
If the petals continue to wither, there may be underlying health issues. Consult a professional.
Leaves. Leaves work somewhat differently on pokemon than they do on plants, with some pokemon like leafeon able to regrow damaged leaf tissue. The main rule is that the veins on the leaf tend to contain nerve endings, while the leaf tissue itself doesn't. This means for small localized damage, its possible to keep the main leaf and just remove the problem area, which is vital for pokemon such as chikorita who only have the one leaf available.
Signs to watch for: Withering. Discoloured spots. Fuzzy looking patches. Browning or blackening. Yellowing. A dry, crumbly texture, or a damp, slimy one.
Prevention: A very sharp knife like a box cutter or exacto knife is your friend here, allowing for precise trimming. This knife should be sterilized carefully first. If the pokemon is small enough, hold it firmly to your body, or find someone to help. Larger pokemon may need to be temporarily paralyzed. Avoiding veins if possible, trim away the damaged portion. If the vein is damaged or rotted, it may have already died and thus lack nerve endings. "The fingernail check" is most often used by grass type trainers. Press a fingernail carefully into the vein. If the pokemon flinches, the vein is still salvageable. If it offers no reaction, that leaf vein is dead and must be trimmed as well.
If the entire leaf is withered, it will have to go. A truly dead one can be tugged off easily. Apply a gentle tug. If it breaks off with no resistance, it was dead. If it is heavily damaged but still attached at the base, it will need to be pruned. This is uncomfortable for the pokemon but essential for its health. Talk softly and soothingly. Though few pokemon can understand people, they do understand emotions. Using a sharp, sterilized pair of secateurs, quickly trim the leaf as close to the body as is safe. I recommend showing your pokemon the leaf afterwards to observe. Dead or diseased foliage can be uncomfortable, and removing it will often give instant relief after the short sting. Seeing the painful part removed will go a long way to calming them down.
As photosynthesis is often their main source of nutrition, a sun lamp or slightly richer mulch should be provided to make up for the lost leaves until they grow back.
Symptoms like yellowing or blighted leaves could indicate deeper issues. Save the leaves and take them to a pokecentre for advice. Some are caused by disease. Others can be caused by a deficiency or heavy pest load.
Twig and branches. A fully withered branch can often be a bad sign. And as these are bigger parts, tending to them can be complicated.
Signs to watch for: Cankers and galls. Dead branches. Blackening or withering of buds.
Prevention: The torterra is one of the few pokemon where treating damaged branches is painless and relatively easy if you know what you're doing. Though the tree is vital for its health, it isn't connected to any nerves, and can thus be safely pruned. Otherwise, unless its a small twig that can be quickly pruned, its safer to get a medical professional in to check.
When trimming branches, try not to cut flush to the body of the tree. This can damage the branch collar, leaving the tree open to pathogens.
If using a pruning saw, make a cut on the underside of the branch first to prevent bark tearing.
Damage to branches is a serious sign of ill health. This needs to be checked out immediately. Take pictures before you prune the affected branch, and take them and the branch with you to the pokecentre.
Roots. Roots should not be touched by someone without specialized training. Take your pokemon to a specialist immediately.

Lilligant Dress
I had a client come in who wanted to make her debut as a grass type trainer at a fancy Gala she was going to, and she asked me to design an outfit based on Lilligant.
Tumblr media
The outfit was very fun to design. I got a bit of inspiration from the Princess and the Croagunk since it's one of my favorite movies, and I love the dress that the protagonist wore at the end. It's also giving me inspiration fir aCroagunk and Politoed set outfit...
Either way, someone wants me to design a suit off of Hisuian Lilligant and I might do that, since it sounds like it could be super pretty!

Kernel (Adopted)
Tumblr media
(Art by @pokemonranch )
Name: Kernel
Species: Sunkern
Type: Grass
Terra Type: Grass
Breed: Standard
Sex: Male
Height: 8 in.
Weight: 3.2 lbs
Ability: Chlorophyll
Moveset: Growth, Tackle, Absorb
Kernel was dropped off to us by @pokemonranch when they found him hurt, but he wasn't able to be released into the wild. He is doing well now and is quite chipper.
He's young but sociable, loving attention and treats, with his favorite being sweet pokepuffs or vitamin water. He isn't much of a battler and can't move much until he evolves, so it's best to carry him and move him around in a pot. He can't defend himself from flying mons, so please supervise him when you take him outside, but other than that, he's very low maintenance. Make sure you put his pot by a window and keep the blinds open during sunny days! It'll help him grow. He's also VERY vocal. If interested in adoption, reblog this post with your qualifications and reasons why.

Today is my birthday, and I'd like to share a very special birthday gift I received from my good friend Jonathan "Jonny" Middleton, who goes by @shin_jonny0613 on Instagram.
This is Jonny's art for his original story set in the world of Pokemon. Playing Pokemon games as kids helped inspire both Jonny and me to be curious about nature and get interested in learning how to identify plants and animals. Here is his description of the character:
"The character shown here is named Katia. She’s a long time friend of the main character and is several years older. Residing in the Galar region (the Pokémon world’s equivalent to the United Kingdom), the relationship between Jonny and Katia was through mutual hobbies and interests via the internet at first. But after the death of Jonny’s Sceptile during the Groudon/Kyogre rampage; she decided to invite the main character over to Galar and spend a few days with her at her estate to cheer him up after losing his dear Pokémon. She’s a gardener by trade and a Pokémon botanist as her occupation. So much so that she built a huge greenhouse and personal lab which acts as a wildlife sanctuary for various types of Pokémon (notably Grass type Pokémon).
As she greets the main character’s arrival, she’s accomaccompanied by her two main Pokémon companions. Coiled up around a tree is one of her strongest Pokémon; Serperior (Royal Pokémon). And on her right is the Grass type Eeveelution; Leafeon (Verdant Pokémon). Both are pure Grass types and both are some of the oldest Pokémon that Katia has raised since her childhood years. The Bulbasaur (Seed Pokémon) was found abandoned and alone until she found him and took em to the greenhouse sanctuary. The Bulbasaur was eventually gifted to Jonny by Katia and was given the name Malus (named after the apple genus), but the main character will have to battle her first to see if he’s capable of raising him."

Sprigatito Facts
Tumblr media
(Art by Mpupa on Deviantart)
-The scientific name for Sprigatito is "Catus Magus" which translates to "Kitten magician"
-Baby Sprigatito are called sprigs
-Weed made from Sprigatito is surprisingly common in Paldea (uhh, weed isn't as dangerous as people make it out but most people on Rotomblr are minors and it really isn't safe to smoke until 25, so be safe)
-Originally, Sprigatito was bred only for the royal family of Paldea (which is why their fur pattern has the fleur de lis on it). But the Sprigatio there had so many kittens that they decided to release them into the wild. The overabundance caused mass poaching to happen, making them very rare to find in the wild today
-Because of their over abundance, and them evolving to survive the harsher climates, members of the Sprigatito line were seen as bad luck during this time period
-In the wild, Sprigatito live in meadows, fields, forests, and plains
-Despite common stereotype, Sprigatito actually enjoy the rain
-Female Sprigatito are called Sprigatita
-Sprigatito fur becomes drier in autumn
Tumblr media
(Art by Megumi Mizutani)
-If Sprigatito can't find any berries, they'll instead bask in sunlight to get their energy
-Unlike a lot of catmon, Sprigatio can handle foods like grapes and almonds
-Members of the Sprigatito line can't taste sweets very well
-Despite being great climbers, they can't climb face-down trees because their paws face forwards instead of backward
-Unlike Meowscarada, Sprigatio (and Floragato) prefer to stay low to the ground instead of hiding in trees
-While Sprigatio and the rest of its line are considered diurnal, it's hard to accurately say since they kinda sleep whenever they need (we should all be like Sprigatito)
-The hatch time for most Sprigatito is in the spring

Actually I guess I could just make a post about it for anyone who ends up seeing this could we all agree to tag anything with the big red eye for this event with scopophobia related tags ^^;; We're pretty good at avoiding it on stream itself since we can scroll down while it's onscreen but it'd be a nice thing to do for people to tag it on Tumblr especially since there may also be people who have the trigger that aren't watching the event but are following people who are!
