the truth is like blood underneath your fingernails, a mix for queen bitterblue of monsea
they have little reason to exist, except as a monument to the truth of all that's happened, and because they're beautiful. i suppose those are reasons to exist.

I just read Fire by Kristin Cashore and I absolutely loved it so I looked into the other books in the series and realized that my library app did me dirty and for some reason didn’t tell me there was a book before Fire
So I read Fire, fall in love with all the characters and the world it built, look more into the series, am told said characters really aren’t in the other 4 books beyond mentions, and now I’m sad
Only character I’m pretty sure is significant in any other books is the one I was praying for the death of every time he was even mentioned

Kristin Cashore's Bitterblue - One of The Darkest YA Books I Have Read
Kristin Cashore’s Bitterblue is like nothing I have read before because of its unabashed confrontation of abuse and trauma. It’s heavy-hitting in its detail, in the way characters interact with each other or react to triggers, and it creates such a complex world and multi-layered situation to unravel. Before you decide to read it, I must note that this is a story world that has already dipped its…

My favorite enemies to lovers dynamic is when A hates B because of a misunderstanding. A thinks that B is a monster or a villain (sci-fi/fantasy), or some rude and awful person (contemporary). And B doesn’t fault them for it or doesn’t hate them back. Maybe B thinks that they must prove themselves as worthy of not being hated. Like a “you hate me but I don’t hate you” situation.
Thinking of Iron Widow by Xiran Jay  Zhao, Fire by Kristin Cashore, or The Sparrowkeet series by audreyii_fic (AO3). Get A Life, Chloe Brown also kinda fits this, where the LI thinks the MC hates him and she knows that she hasn’t given him the right impression of her.
I just love it, because then character A begins to realize they had B pegged so wrong. That B is actually a kind or wonderful person, or at least nothing like they expected. That they’ve been too judgmental from the start and shouldn’t have assumed the worse. And they help B to realize that there’s nothing wrong with them and that those who judge them off the bat are the ones who must make amends and prove themselves worthy of B’s attention. That B doesn’t actually have to prove themselves to anyone.
I love the romance that can grow from that 💕💕💕

Ngl I don't particularly want to get into the animation industry since it looks so stressful and too much for me, but part of me wants to get into it JUST to make animated shows of my favourite books series.
Like, could you imagine this fluid animated battle scene of Xingyin where she's battling demon realm soldiers with the Jade Dragon Bow, stylised sky-fire raining down and using camera angles to accentuate her skill and technique with the bow??? Or a slow motion scene of Lovisa walking through the snow as she wonders what to do about her parents and her growing suspicions?? Katsa moving in the shadows as she works alongside Giddon??
The art direction that could be done for designing the cities and towns?? Like could you imagine Graceling, Winterkeep, Daughter of the Moon Goddess, etc all getting the Castlevania treatment with beautiful art and cinematography??
It'd be so cool...

Does anyone reading the Graceling series know if there is a good “synopsis” of the first three books I could look through before going into the fourth book?
I remember some- but not all of the details and I wasn’t sure if it would be vital to the fourth book. 😬

after rewatching Rosamund's vignette I think I finally have words for why I don't trust the Princess faction yet besides Bad Vibes
Brennan wants us to believe they are good so badly. I don't want to do a single thing Brennan expects of me this season. That monologue of railing against God was TOO good. Like come on we have so many episodes left. Theres got to be more for Rosamund to learn, here.
The way they're only focusing on Princesses.... And the insistence on them rewriting the stories instead of letting everyone choose for themselves. This could be an overreaction, but that line pinged something in me.
We haven't seen Snow yet, and I don't trust that she's not the Stepmother from a story where she won and ate Snow's heart or something. Also Cinderella has invisibility. That doesn't... feel good. Why are they both literally unseen.
This is a horror campaign. A future faction of helpful Princess allys feels... distinctly non-horror. Like, maybe thats what Siobhan wanted for her story, but horror narratives don't usually have vastly overpowered allies waiting in the wings. Imagine if at the end of your favorite horror movie, the final girl was like, "and now my cool big sister is going to kick your ass." Like... for what reason.

Instagram Book Review:
I was home sick over the long weekend, and while I mostly played The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, I did finish one book. I read Graceling by Kristin Cashore since I received her Graceling book series for the holidays. I just sat in the couch with my favorite blanket and read between naps.
First impressions:
- There could have been more boats and Lienid pirates. I loved them.
- The romantic interest is interesting, but theres no commonplace tropes if that's what you're expecting (and I'm a sucker for happy marriage honestly)
- The horses have no names or personalities, which is too bad because they do an awful lot of demanding work with no complaint.
- and names of certain characters are wonderfully absurd
It's overall a great start to a series, and I took the second book, Fire, to work with me. I'm excited to see what develops in this world.
(a more in depth review is on my Goodreads)
