the harringtons not being part of the stranger things play drives me insane bc like... the Wheelers were destined to always be a part of this shit. Bob was destined to always be a part of this shit. Eddie was destined to always be a part of this shit.
But Steve? Steve chose it. He chose to always take the hardest hits, chose to always throw himself into the war with everything he had. His parents were never touched by the darkness of Hawkins. He was never the target of some great and terrible evil. He just loved the people around him so hard that he found himself in the center of it all.

Someones gotta say this but i actually really liked the path JRO went with getaway's death.......... emphasis on really. Rodimus killing getaway was essential to both their characters tbh. It shows their development (both positive and/or negative) throughout lost light/last few chapters of mtmte with the little time we had lol Rodimus started as despising getaway SO fucking much that his whole motivation on living itself is to kill getaway and get revenge. In the end, he didn't. Because he realized that if he did, he'd be the person he swore to destroy— Getaway. it would've compared him exactly to how getaway felt about megatron, obsessed with revenge. Thus, not killing him literally proves him different than getaway, a better difference. If he did, then he'd just be the normal ol' rodimus who does things simply because he wanted to for his own ego/desires. It's probably also the only time that rodimus ACTUALLY showed to be prime-deserving (my own opinion LMAO).
Tumblr media
And for Getaway... his death was honestly my favorite in the lost light ngl. It was oddly poetic (in a pathetic way). I think something that people mis-interpret about getaway's character is that he has "god complex"— which isn't wrong but it isn't fully true either. He doesn't want to be god, he wants to be approved by god. An MTO? tortured by a religous freak-lord that's racist to non-forged bots? no way in hell he can't NOT feel worthless/blasphemous againts primus's eyes. His death literally solidifies his character, it shows how his intentions got more and more twisted as the series goes. It went from "i want to be a savior" to "I want GOD to see me as a savior".
And so, giving him the opposite of rodimus's development, a backwards one. Still great for his character nontheless, not every character has to have some sort of "oh he turned to be a good-guy!" (like rodimus) development, and getaway as an example is so intruiging to me.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Im just saying that if rodimus DID kill getaway, it would've probably done only a teeny-bit for his character(?) and would definitely satisfy the audience, for sure— but it would've made their character bland, honestly. For rodimus character, it would've gotten half points for 'development' and while for getaway's? none. Whilst the canon really gives them both points for some sort of character solidifaction and/or development. Sometimes jro's writing paths could be a bit questionable at times but you know what!!!!!!! i REALLY liked this one, like, more than usual. It's great.

thinking about drunk stevie climbing into eddie's lap and cuddling close and steve being like "eddieeeee do you like boyssss" and robin is like god no steve and trying to drag him off but steve has his arms around eddie's neck and he's not budging. in true awkward, closeted fashion, eddie says no. steve's silly smile turns into a pout. "oh. thats so sad......"
eddie and robin make panicked eye contact over steve's head.
steve narrows his eyes and leans in. "do you think you might like boys tomorrow?"

nah bc I feel like we give Murray way too much credit and underestimate how much Steve hates being told what to do. if Murray tried to sniff out steddie the way he did jancy, Steve's mean girl would jump out immediately.
"you are giving me relationship advice? I'll tell you what, next time I wanna know how to be a bald, alcoholic fuck who can't keep his noses out of children's love lives, I call you. Until then, maybe you should work on the crippling trust issues that stop you from having your own relationships instead of living vicariously through everyone else's."
and Eddie is in the background cheering him on the whole time

a scene with absolutely no context just hit me v intensely out of nowhere but. imagine a world where Steve's dad is just a little more powerful, a little darker, than in canon. and this mr. harrington doesn't know his son has spent the last five years fighting for survival, so when he finds out steve has been running around with the munson boy, he thinks it'll be an easy fix. steve has always been a soft sell.
he gets a call from steve, his son's voice giving him no time to even answer: "you pull that shit again, I'm sending the next one home in a body bag."
before he can even put down the phone, dial tone already ringing on the other side, he gets the message that the heavy he sent to intimidate eddie munson is in their medic's office with two spiral fractures and a shattered kneecap.
maybe steve could have gone into the family business after all.

i so badly want one of those fic examinations of steve's relationship with joyce and hopper but solely through eddie's pov like hear me out
steve and eddie chat a lot in the upside down (and later in the hospital, when they learn hop is alive). steve has taken charge of filling eddie in on the rest of their of-age crew without the kids butting in. he never mentions his own parents, but he talks about the rest of the party's a lot, especially joyce and hopper. eddie knows what it's like to desperately want someone to be your parent and trying to hide it from his own childhood, when he would try to be cool about wayne dropping him off at his dad's house. steve obviously adores joyce and hopper, thinks the world of them and legitimately looks up to them.
eddie isn't sure what he expects from a cop who came back to life and the world's most determined housewife, but he's excited to meet them as someone steve loves.
cue eddie's horror when he realizes that neither of them really feel much for steve rather than annoyance and vague distrust. that joyce trusts will with eddie, an accused murderer, in a heartbeat and still hesitates to leave him with steve. that hopper brushes off every ounce of steve's hero worship and joy.
he tries to broach the topic with steve, gently, and is heartbroken when steve genuinely has no idea what he's talking about. and not because he's oblivious, but because steve thinks that's what he deserves. he thinks that's the parental love that someone who was an asshole in high school needs, because that's what would make him a good person. he needs people to call him out constantly, obviously, because why else would they keep doing it? why would nancy? at least they're here. at least they're not ignoring him. at least they're not forcing him into a box. they just want him to be better.
like, this is the man who thanked a girl for calling him bullshit and telling him she never loved him. he doesn't Know that's not how you're supposed to handle things. no one ever taught him that.
and now eddie's gotta figure out how he can teach steve how to be loved the right way without outing himself and his huge crush on his love-starved dork of a friend.

sometimes I forget that in s4 Steve was literally The Adult. Hawkins Crew thought Hopper was dead and Joyce was across the country and unavailable. Steve was literally the oldest person in all of Hawkins to be Upside-Down aware for the first time ever. Imagine being under that much pressure.

and genuinely the thing about Ax's ending that is so disturbing is like. it's only a physical manifestation of what was going to happen to him anyway right. like he was already being reabsorbed into andalite's military and being stripped of everything he had become that made him unique and the family he had made outside of their society. in a way being made part of a giant fleshy hive mind was just the same thing but, ultimately, less cruel because now jake doesn't have to see his face when he kills him.

been thinking a lot about those hcs about steve bullying eddie and i'm pretty sure the math just does not check out on any level
like okay so first of all, steve absolutely would not be bullying someone older than him in his freshman and sophomore years, especially because in the way puberty hits teen boys, there is no way eddie wasn't probably taller and bigger than him in those years.
and like, yeah, he was more of an asshole in his junior year, but he was only a junior for four months before the demogorgon. so that means that everything you want steve to be responsible for vis a vis eddie's trauma has to be within that four months.
it's especially egregious when the only person we actually see steve bully is jonathan, who is a sophomore at the time. a sophomore who kicked steve's ass, btw. which probably means steve wasn't physically bullying seniors and escaping unscathed.
also it seems to be an equally popular trope that steve bullied gareth and gareth hates steve the most out of all eddie's friends, which is like... okay, gareth is, i think, a junior at the time of s4? which means he would have been a freshman in steve's junior year. which, yeah, sets him in steve's prime bullying demographic, but can i just remind everyone that steve wasn't even with that crowd for his entire first semester of junior year?
it seems incredibly unlikely that gareth got bullied by steve personally in fall '83 and then held on to that grudge for the rest of high school, especially after seeing firsthand steve's fall from popularity and then spending almost a whole year in school without him.

fully believe that if the party could discord chat, steve and eddie would have really dramatic fights in the group chat about idk steve flirting with jonathan (in the chat. nancy was there. they were joking) or something else stupid and then someone would ping robin and she would be like "they are curled up on the couch together with the straightest faces I've ever seen"

im also obsessed w the idea of sonetto and vertin bc the way they're presented as kids is that vertin so desperately wanted to be friends with sonetto, always bringing her presents and things, and sonetto wanted nothing to do with her or her troublemaking. now it's switched. vertin keeps sonetto at arms' length, and sonetto desperately wants to get her approval and be close to her, and has to watch her instead always choose to be by someone else's side--
even vertin's childhood memories of sonetto are now coloured by her loss of schneider.
idk why everyone leaves sonetto out of the doomed yuri thing, because imo it is really a doomed yuri love triangle.
