Quando sei in vacanza all'estero è più difficile raccontarti che tu non sei come gli altri turisti. Per fortuna c'è sempre l'americano di turno a farti sentire un po' migliore (chiedo naturalmente scusa agli amiricani e alle americane che non incarnano lo stereotipo). TRASCRIZIONE [ENG translation below] Fintanto che all'estero si vive, è molto facile sentirsi diversi dai turisti che quel posto lo frequentano. Però quando anche tu sei in vacanza, quindi quando anche tu non hai più nessuna scusa sei un turista si fanno degli incontri che a volte, non dico che siano imbarazzanti, però mettono in luce gli aspetti, alcuni aspetti boh. Vabbè, taglio corto. Ieri sera eravamo in una parte di Tokyo che si chiama Golden Gai e che è molto turistica, ma molto turistica anche perché molto caratteristica. Ci sono un paio di stradine un paio di vicoletti però fitti, fitti, fitti, fitti di piccoli bar. Solitamente in questi bar ci stanno al massimo sei persone, quindi sono delle piccole, piccole stanzette e lì si va e si beve, si chiacchiera, molte delle persone che gestiscono questi bar parlano l'inglese, per cui si fanno anche le chiacchiere con le persone che questi posti li gestiscono. Ieri in uno di questi baretti ho incrociato un americano, e mi dispiace per gli americani però incarnano molto bene lo stereotipo che spesso si ha quando si pensa agli americani che vanno fuori e che, insomma sono sono un po' arroganti. Allora immaginatevi questo bar molto molto piccolo, fai le scale strette, strette, strette per salire per arrivare, ci sono pochissime cose che puoi prendere lì, pochi liquori e qualche birra, non si mangia. Il proprietario, un ragazzo molto giovane, molto simpatico, facciamo le chiacchiere e poi c'è questo ragazzotto inglese americano che fa? Si lamenta, dice che i drinks costano troppo rispetto agli altri posti, che evidentemente si è già tutti girati, e il proprietario che fa? Dice, guarda qua è vero costano un po' di più però non ti facciamo pagare il coperto, perché in questi baretti ti fanno pagare altrimenti il coperto, e poi... Niente lì si mette a, cercava di dire qualcosa in giapponese però naturalmente non conosceva il giapponese, quindi era una cosa abbastanza penosa, per carità, un premio per averci provato, però diciamo che questo ragazzo americano occupava un sacco di spazio, non solo fisicamente, ma anche fisicamente, ripeto era un posto minuscolo e lui era grosso, proprio mentalmente. Yesterday in one of these little bars I crossed paths with an American, and I feel sorry for Americans however they embody very well the stereotype that we often have when we think of Americans going out and, I mean they are kind of arrogant. So imagine this very very small bar, you make the narrow, narrow, narrow stairs to get up to get there, there are very few things you can get there, very few liquor and a few beers, you can't eat. The owner, a very young guy, very nice, we make small talk, and then there's this American guy who does what? He complains, says the drinks cost too much compared to other places, which evidently everyone has already turned around, and what does the owner do? He says, look here it's true they cost a little bit more however we don't charge you the cover, because in these little bars they charge you otherwise the cover, and then ... Nothing there he starts to, he was trying to say something in Japanese however of course he didn't know Japanese, so it was quite awkward, for goodness sake , a reward for trying, however let's say that this American guy was taking up a lot of space, not only physically, I repeat it was a tiny place and he was big, also mentally. Whatever, I'm a tourist myself.

We had the pleasure of visiting with the Golden Gays of Manila today; an LGBTQ place for older folks to have a safe space to be themselves, and over lunch they treated us to some amazing performances (some of which was interactive; video coming!) and were such gracious hosts.
