GojoHime: Evidence and Discussion
Tumblr media
Jujutsu Kaisen isn't a romance series. It's a horror action series that focuses more on platonic bonds and camaraderie between its characters. That being said, just as any shounen series, it has its fair share of ships, each with its own assortment of crumbs and small details.
GojoHime is a particularly interesting ship to look at. Being a massive fan of it myself,  it's fun to pick through the evidence that supports it. I'd like to share the evidence that I and many other GojoHime fans have found. I'll be starting with the smaller, weaker evidence first and working my way up to the strongest evidence.
Before I start in earnest, I want to clarify that this isn't made to attack any other ship. People can ship whatever they want, and no ship in the series is canon (aside from exceptions like Hakari and Kirara). I like GojoHime so I want to talk about it. That's really it.
With that out of the way, let's begin.
First, let's start with the evidence outside of the manga itself. This one isn't very compelling, but it is cute. In Japan, there is a chip brand called Bakauke. Bakauke has two mascots known as Borin and Barin, who are girlfriend and boyfriend. When Bakauke collabed with Jujutsu Kaisen, Utahime and Gojo were chosen to represent the Borin and Barin respectively, thus being depicted as girlfriend and boyfriend.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Moving on to evidence found within the actual manga, we see that on the splash page for Gojo and Utahime, the print behind them depicts arrows known as a Yagasuri pattern. In Japan, this is a symbol often used for weddings. It's meant for good luck because "a shot arrow does not return," and therefore, a married woman does not (or should not) return to her parents.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We also see depictions of them under an umbrella often used at weddings. Sharing an umbrella is also a common romantic trope in Japan.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Other smaller evidence exists in the form of their phone call. This consists a beeper code, where the number of their call spells out "I like you" in code, and another interesting detail is that Satoru calls Utahime from his recent contacts, implying that he calls her often.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gojo and Utahime were made to be opposites. Aside from the obvious "opposites attract" trope, it creates a compelling visual story between them. Man and woman, strong and weak, modern and traditional, blue and red. Satoru hates alcohol and loves sweets while Utahime loves alcohol but hates sweets.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gege said Gojo only puts down his Technique with people he trusts, which we see him do with Utahime. He trusts her enough to have to actively put his Technique back in place after she throws a teacup at him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Moving on to some of the strongest and most convincing evidence, we have Waka Inoue, Utahime's very own technique, and Gege's past works.
Gojo had a picture of Waka Inoue as his background as a teenager. He clearly finds her attractive, as is common, considering she's a popular model, but the reason why this is important is that Inoue shares a lot of similarities with Utahime.
Tumblr media
Both women have noticeable bangs, they're the same height (166cm), and they share a love for alcohol, karaoke, and sports, specifically baseball. Waka is described once as a "competitive crybaby who hates to lose," and as we see in the Anime, Gojo has a way of firing Utahime up and she is also prone to being a bit of a scaredy-cat and a crybaby. We also see her more competitive side come out during the baseball tournament between Kyoto and Tokyo.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Moving on to Utahime's Cursed Technique, as some Japanese fans have pointed out, Utahime's Soro Soro Kinku (Solo Forbidden Area) is based on a real love song about forbidden love with lyrics about a masked lover. The records from the singer, Akina Nakamori, are called Utahime records, and the singer even does Gojo's unlimited void hand sign during her live performances of her song, "Fin."
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The most compelling bit of evidence for me is Gege's past works. Two of his three one-shot manga have characters who are very similar to Gojo and Utahime. The male protagonist is usually cocky and teases the female protagonist, while the female protagonist gets annoyed at his antics but is otherwise down to earth and kind.
In Nikai Bongai Barabarujura, the protagonist, Noroma, reminds me of teen Gojo in appearance and behavior. He is "the strongest" who teases Nodoka, the female protagonist, for being weak but has an obvious respect for her drive and inner strength.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In Kamishiro Sosa, we have a similar set-up as before. The male protagonist, Ganji, is very energetic and careless with the female protagonist, Rekko's, feelings, and is seen to have a very similar type of banter as Gojo and Utahime have.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gege clearly likes that type of pairing, which isn't surprising given the bickering couple and rivals to lovers is a popular trope in romance. It's not unusual for Mangaka to reuse old ideas, and that seems to be what happened with Gojo and Utahime. Even their appearances share similarities.
As you can see, GojoHime has a lot of thought put into it, and it's very interesting to see the little details Gege has put into their dynamic. There's definitely a reason why so many adore this pairing, and I'm glad Gege has paid attention to that.

I know how we (the shippers) all have our own favorite gojohime moment, but I personally believe the ultimate telltale sign of Gojo's opinion (feelings, thoughts, etc.) towards Utahime has been set in stone in Gojo's past arc.
His scene with Utahime and the scenes that come after with regards to their scene doesn't require bending over backwards to interpret it.
- "I'm here to save you, Utahime. You cryin'?"
- Gojo volunteered to cast the veil.
- Gojo left the auxiliary manager (and his classmates) behind.
- Gojo did not cast the veil. [Neither the two did...bc they assumed he would do it. Being already in their 2nd year, it should be routine. Yet Gojo forgot to do it.]
- Gojo wondered if the veil was actually necessary.
- Gojo said saving the weak was exhausting.
- Gojo used limitless to save Utahime (flashback). He also commented on how he has good eyes.
-- Gojo said the technique was a pain to do (esp. considering the vectors).
-- Gojo said the technique was exhausting. [He wasn't trying to complain beforehand, he was simply stating that the technique, in fact, exhausted him. Literally. Yet he still did it...for a mission that wasn't his.]
(Now, a lot of implications could be derived from here. But I guess I'll save it for next time.)
Bonus: Gojo started omitting steps (palm seals, etc.) post-Toji incident to perfect his technique. In the current arc in the manga, Gojo does not omit a single step, just like Utahime. Gojo also uses HP for the first time here, which he later uses again at 200% with Utahime.
*
*
*
As much as I love their other scenes, S2 EP1 alone (and maybe EP2), in my opinion, already established what Utahime is to Gojo.
It doesn't necessarily mean anything romantic, but it certainly isn't apathy either.

hi as a jjk fan, do you have any issues with the writing from gege? if so, what do you think are wasted potential in terms of characters, bonds. i think that there is lack of emotional impact or expansion fo characters sometimes. for instance animes like mha have alot of meaningful character arcs and backstories. It's a bit hard to express how I feel becuase jjk is an amazing story but i am just a bit disappointed of the wasted potential with female characters and like shoko and utahime. and the world building. yes i am fellow gojohime shipper ;).
(Oncoming long RANT 😅)
If you ride on Gege's coattails, this may not be for you.
I actually do have issues with Gege's writing, so I agree with you. JJK has an interesting premise with hidden lore & I would recommend it to anyone wanting to get into, or already into, anime/manga, but it could be so much better if Gege just cared enough (which I sometimes feel like he doesn't? It just feels like he wants to hurry up & finish it so he can start on his idol manga... 💀). He skips so much, it honestly feels like he's going off a checklist, especially in the latest arc.
Compared to other battle shounens, namely Naruto, Fairy Tail, MHA, & even Gintama, JJK is severely lacking in several areas. It's unfortunate because the premise & characters are full of potential.
I will go over some of the issues. A lot of these were obvious from the start but they've only gotten worse over time.
• The fast pacing (speed running at this point). It's battle after battle, no downtime, big arc right after big arc, etc. Us readers & the characters themselves barely have time to process things before he moves on to the next thing. He skips so many things, so much happens off-screen/off-panel (can't forget how he skipped Yaga's fight with Gakuganji that lead to his death, skipped Gojo's entire month after his unsealing then "kills" him off-panel a few chapters later, I could go on...)
• The lack of character emotions, development, backstories, etc. We barely know anything about the characters, like their hobbies & interests? (This is why I have a hard time making up headcanons & potentially writing a fic for our ship... How can I keep them in character when I barely know stuff about them? 😮‍💨). We barely see any of them training (training arcs/chapters are typical for battle shounens); the Tokyo students preparing for the Goodwill Event would have been a fitting time to showcase this, for example. There's little to no mourning shown for character deaths (like Yaga? Nanami? Mai? Mechamaru?).
Yuta has such a cool CT & we didn't get to see how he discovered it & all. Like, come on 😔. Also, it would've been nice to see the Goodwill Event from his first year when he beat the Kyoto students, especially Todo... (Gege simply tells us about it. Like he tends to do for a lot of things 🙄).
Gege could've done more build-up to Gojo's sealing in Shibuya by showing his upbringing & development from his arrogant teen self (tho already having shown hints of caring for others & not liking the higher-ups) to the sensei who loves his students & strives for a better Jujutsu society. His past arc should've been longer imo. Needed more slice of life & character interactions, bonding. Heck, Toji should've gotten his whole backstory there too before he died. More build-up to Gojo's "death" too, as Gege skipped that whole month after his unsealing 😒...
• While on the subject, the lack of character interactions, bonding. We haven't seen most characters interact with each other despite being in the same circles, vicinity. Tokyo & Kyoto students, GjHm with them, Gojo & his colleagues (esp more Uta), the Zenin clan (like, wish we could've seen how GjHm interacted with Naoya. Imagine the drama 😫), Gojo & his elusive clan, I could go on... Would've loved to see Gojo interact with Kashimo, Higuruma, Choso... 😮‍💨
As such, several have died & we never saw them interact with certain others nor even know much about them 😑... The emotional impact of character deaths & bonding would be higher if only Gege cared enough to flesh out his characters more... (At least the Phantom Parade mobile game is giving us some much-needed slice of life content. Wish Mappa would give us some OVA's like that too...)
• Lack of world building. Once again, so much we don't know, such as the clans, especially Gojo's. Apparently, they're still alive, yet we haven't seen them?
Tumblr media
Are they not fighters, then? Nothing from them on their clan head's sealing/unsealing/"death". The Zenin Clan debuted & got killed off soon after. Other clans irrelevant. Jujutsu sorcery primarily exists in Japan so other than Miguel, goodbye to the potential of any foreign sorcerers making their appearance...
• Female cast. It's crazy how they were once praised for their potential but now... Now, all they've got is just your typical battle shounen treatment 😒. While Gege has shown he cares little for all his characters (lol), it does seem like the female characters have suffered a bit more from his writing. They've either died (like Mai off-screen? Yuki, the only female Special Grade, had one fight & died?), become powerless (Miwa, thru an off-screen Binding Vow revealed many chapters later? Seriously?), lack screentime (the Kyoto girls? Shoko, the only one who can use RCT on others & closest friend to Gojo?!), or simply haven't done a whole lot, especially compared to the male characters. For some or most, it's a mixture of all these 💀 (like Tsumiki).
Nobara is the main girl & yet her role ended about halfway thru the series. Can't believe Gege did that to her, despite her potential & competence to be the FL of a battle shounen (poor Yuuji still thinks of her. And we don't even know what Gojo thought about her demise? 😮‍💨). Maki seems to have it better, yet some could argue she's just Toji 2.0/female Toji. Unfortunately, I thought about Toji when she was fighting Sukuna; I was like, "If Sukuna's this impressed by her, imagine Toji with his higher experience?" I doubt that's what Gege would want us to think when Maki's shining (or does he? 🤨😒).
• Don't even get me started on Utahime. She's the main teacher of Kyoto, loved by all her students according to Gege, yet we don't get to see it? She's barely relevant? Imagine what she felt as her students kept on dying or becoming unable to fight. Thru her character, such as during her investigation of Kyoto for the traitor, we could've gotten some great insight into how things are over there? We don't even know what the school looks like 💀.
Her scar has several implications & yet we don't know how she got it? How has she dealt with being a scarred woman in Jujutsu society, especially considering Momo's words about such a thing during the Goodwill Event? Utahime could be a great role model to the girls, especially Maki now, & yet... 😮‍💨 (I'm telling you, she should've been the main adult female of the series, just like Gojo's the main adult male)
She's one of Gojo's friends, has known him for 10+ years, & is one of his few most trusted allies, yet we haven't seen how they got to this point? Their comedic interactions make us wonder how they built that deep trust. I NEED to know what happened between them during the timeskip!!! 😫
Her CT buffs herself & others. Why has she not been a part of any on-screen fight prior to the Shinjuku Showdown? There were a couple instances where we almost saw her in action & yet... Why did Gege gatekeep her CT for so long? To showcase her CT for the first time for Gojo & Gojo ONLY. He's insane. They can't beat the package deal allegations. So, does this have any meaning? Can we hope for more-
• I sometimes wonder if JJK would be better as a seinen like I once heard he intended for it to be... There are definitely elements of that... How much darker could the story get, since sometimes Gege pushes the boundaries of Shounen Jump (I know he wants to, lol)... How much more fleshed out could it be if he was writing it the way he wanted to originally (supposedly he never intended for a school setting but was forced by his previous editor?)... Maybe we could even get a Tokyo Ghoul:re style chapter with GjHm during the timeskip if y'all know what I mean-
So, to sum up: JJK is interesting & I would recommend it, but there's a whole lot of wasted character potential, terrible pacing, & lack of interactions, development, & world building. There's so much we don't know & Gege wants to end it already? He's sitting on a gold mine & yet... 😑😒
No idea how things will end but I can at least hope for an open ending that leaves us with some hopeful possibilities... Uh, right?
Also... GOJO WILL RISE ✊️

Diff person, but.. now I want to know the secret nanago beef details. I've wondered as a nanago shipper what your honest take on it is, mostly bc like to read your thoughts on things. Even if it's 100% negative. It's cool if you want to pass on answering this tho
afhhs sorry, just to clarify i don't think nanago's toxic but i personally feel it's boring. gojo has too many "he's acting annoying x person who finds him annoying" dynamics for me to find it interesting or unique.
when i first got into jjk, it felt to me like the kind of ship someone who wants to tone him down would like? the mirror of gojohime. the fail being gojo doesn't particularly care what nanami or utahime think about him personally so he doesn't ever really grow bc of them (where geto has more success getting him to listen while still sharing his sense of humor).
and i don't want to be misunderstood, i think gojo trusts nanami and utahime + considers them valuable allies. the thing is, it doesn't seem like they really know gojo either. (hence why he fails to listen). so in depictions of these ships, gojo's character ends up looking like a caricature to me? which ik is an odd thing to say 'cause he's not real anyways. but he feels like he lacks depth or wildly ooc to me in most of the fanarts i've seen or fics i've given a try.
but yeah, when gojo basically went "oh wow" at the news of nanami's death, it told me everything i needed to know about how canon gojo can care for ppl but not necessarily feel strongly attached. basically: geto is the exception— not the standard of how gojo mourns over everyone.
ofc, needless to say, ppl can ship what they want but oftentimes ppl's fanon interpretation messes with how ppl see canon gojo hence why some ppl think his character assassination started in chapter 221— where gege actually makes gojo be more open and honest (unrelated note: there's not enough discussion on how this openness is also reflected in the way he's dressed).

Self rec fic
Fic authors self rec! When you get this, reply with your favourite fics that you've written, then pass on to other writers. Let’s spread the self-love 💜
Thanks for tagging me @sareinadale 😊
Since I'm writing for 3 ships now, I'll just share based on each ship (and fandom):
Twiyor / Spy x Famiily
All's Well that Ends Well (to End Up with You). I like imagining what the Forgers' life post-STRIX will be like, so I decided to write about it.
Meet The Handler. This one was really fun to write, like imagine Handler seducing Yor to make Loid jealous (idk if I wanna be Yor or Sylvia in this scenario, lol).
Still Holding My Hand. A sweet moment between Anya and Rosie, the newest member of the Forger family. I really enjoyed writing it.
Gojohime / Jujutsu Kaisen
In Your Arms (Did I Find Solace). I love fluff, and I love this pair. Pre-Shibuya arc really made me FEEL, and the art that's inspired the fic moved me, so I felt the need to write it down.
The Next Ten Minutes. My first ever text fic (not the first one published though), started this as 'an experiment' I shared with my friend on Discord, I ended up posting it. It's still on going, I hope I can get back to it!
Helsa / Frozen
I Know You. I wasn't keen on writing Soulmate AU, but I definitely did enjoy writing this one.
The Hidden Truths. This was nice to write, heavily inspired by Crimson Peak.
Together. Sets in modern AU where Hans is a paediatrician and Elsa is an adoptive mum of two, they both are in an established relationship. It was a Secret Santa gift.
Passing this to @notsoattractivearenti @valiantwarrior37 (no pressure, just for fun! ^^)

i really don't wanna be that person but what is your thoughts on gojou with utahime as a pairing? like no hate to anyone that likes to ship them but i just don't see the significance in this relationship, especially since it feels like a reach when they try to compare utahime with geto for example, saying they have similarities supposedly, which?? utahime in general is like a typical girl from a manga that people seem to project onto because she has this tsukkomi vibes or something? like the whole dislike towards gojo is disregarded and treated as a joke despite adults in jjk are obviously capable of putting aside their distaste of one another to work for the greater good if goals aling. i honestly think these two work better as allies because they have rather sibling like type of dynamic. and i didn't mean for this to get so long and overboard but i needed to share and i hope you'll have some thoughts along the way because i really enjoy your theories and metas. have a good one :)
before i start, disclaimer: if you like gojohime, by all means, ship it! there’s nothing wrong with shipping two characters you think go together, so as long as you don’t pick unnecessary fights about it!
now let’s start.
i think i don’t see the appeal in gojohime because i see no chemistry between them. they’re professional coworkers who might even be acquaintances once in a while to me.
i think what i truly dislike, though, is how utahime is portrayed in the ship. if a woman says she doesn’t like a man, then she doesn’t like a man! but even through a reader’s standpoint, while these are fictional characters in a story we can find wholly knowable because they are readable (unlike in-real-life humans), there is no evidence to suggest that utahime even likes gojo. they work well together and that’s it.
i think because we don’t see much of utahime in the story, it becomes easy to see what isn’t there. most of her on-screen interactions with gojo, if not in tepid professional manner, are fiery, with her becoming defensive and quick to anger. i think many shippers read this as utahime becoming flustered and perhaps they see her as the quintessential “tsundere” who shows affection through irritability. if anything, though, i think we should consider the fact that teenage gojo used to blatantly call her weak and it’s definitely affected their dynamic as adults. utahime could still be a little resentful, and i don’t think gojo realizes this.
you also have to remember that gojo isn’t the most likable person (not character) in the series. nanami is not entirely fond of him, and neither are most of his students. they care for him, and they might love him, but he’s not an easy guy to get along with. it isn’t just utahime who finds him “annoying.”
as for the geto and utahime comparisons, they make me giggle a little. is it because geto is objectively the closest person to gojo, and that’s how shippers wished it was for utahime, or is it because they both have dark hair? besides the fact that pre-defection geto and utahime have a sense of duty as sorcerers (which also differ, by the way; their motivations were completely different), they have absolutely no similarities. where did this argument even come from?
i think it’s important to realize that you can ship characters without grasping at barely-there evidence. you don’t owe anyone your ship’s canonicity. you’re allowed to like a ship even if two characters have never even interacted with each other. of course, different people are bound to perceive the story differently, so i guess as long as you don’t pick fights, do whatever you want!

If Heaven and Hell
gojohime + good omens au
“... and then, when the real kid gets found. It starts, the Beginning of the End.”
“Not sounding exactly enthusiastic ‘bout it, Utahime.” Gojô’s comment instantly made her scowl. “Pfft, what’s with that face? Maybe you can convince the old geezers’, but I know damn well you love this.”
“This?” She should stop, cut the conversation before that idiot of a demon exposed her even more. But coming to think about it, and even without thinking about it at all, Utahime was already late. A bunch of centuries late, if not a full millennia. “Alright, I do. I love the world, with the people and the music and the sports and drinks.”
“That’s an understatement. You’d walk through Hell’s fire before giving up your karaoke nights or baseball matches.” Utahime smacked his arm, without any real force, and he laughed.
“Haven’t told anyone else this, by the way. So if word gets to Up There, I’ll know who to blame.”
It was a joke, obviously. Gojô, certified Heaven’s critic, would never rat her out like that; it was why he basically counted as the only being ever who had witnessed her saying anything but kind words about her superiors, Heaven in general, or Their plan.
“Pfft, you think I’d betray your trust or anything?” He asked, pulling down his sunglasses enough to show a pair of deep blue eyes which didn’t seem to fully match his whole demon appearance.
‘I didn’t mean to Fall,’ He had once said. ‘just asked some questions.’
And Falling wasn’t in her plans either, neither with him nor for him. But… it might be a little late for that, or at least for one of those two.
“Nah, at this point I don’t.”
(Also on ao3.)

28/07/23: Utahime offers her ice-cream to Gojo as a payback
based on THIS prompt by Daily GojoHime Prompts on twitter
Tumblr media
Utahime watched Gojo smiling at the ridiculous triple scoops of chocolate, blueberry and mango flavors on his ice-cream cone. She was equal parts horrified and impressed at how he was managing to balance them with such ease. But then again, if she asked him about it, he'd probably say something along the lines of how its nothing for the strongest sorcerer.
She rolled her eyes and took a lick of her own scoop of strawberry ice-cream. Just minutes ago she'd been studying in her dorm room when Shoko showed up at her doorstep, asking her to grab ice-cream together since it was a hot day. She had agreed readily without realising that Shoko's “together” included Geto Suguru and the insufferable Gojo Satoru.
And by the way, where was Shoko? She and Geto were taking far too long to get their scoops.
Utahime turned around in search of her dear kouhai, her shoulder accidentally bumping with Gojo's, causing his atrocious triple scoop ice-cream to fall on his shoes.
Shit!
Hesitantly she looked up, only to find the biggest blue, kitten-like eyes glistening with tears in them. “Utahime, you're so mean.”
Usually she doesn't care but for some reason his words caused a sharp pang in her chest.
“Now now,” She shrugged with a hand, trying to appease this child. “It was an accident.”
“Liar! You were jealous because mine was better than yours. You did it on purpose!”
She bit the inside of her cheek to keep herself from yelling at such a stupid accusation.
“Uh huh? And why the heck was your infinity turned off!?”
“Don't bring my powers into this when its your own fault!”
“I said it was an accident!”
“Boo!” He wagged his tongue at her. “Payback!”
“Haahh!? Why should I?”
“Cause you're a jealous liar!”
The young heir to the Gojo clan pouted, head dramatically cocked to the side.
Utahime groaned. She wasn't cut out to deal with this boy's childish tantrums like his classmates were. So she simply decided to go with the easiest solution.
“Fine, ” She sighed, bringing her hand out to offer her own ice-cream to him. “You can have mine.”
The sudden offer seemed to have stunned him for words for Gojo stared dubiously at the cone of strawberry delight that was starting to melt in the sun. Then, looked back at her. “For real?”
“Yeah yeah.” She rolled her eyes as she pushed the cone into his hand, ignoring the way their fingers brushed momentarily. “For real.”
Gojo smiled, a mischievous twinkle in his eyes and leaned his face down towards hers. “Then, can I have a kiss too?”
“Idiot!” Utahime shoved his face away, ignoring the obvious blush on her cheeks. “Don't push your luck!”

Can u tell us how ur passion for Gojohime started and what u love about them? <3
Hi aaaaaa omg it's been years!! It took me a while bc maybe I was as densed as Utahime. The first time I watched the animation seeing them bicker and act like parents I immediately thought "hmmmm I think there's something between them and maybe I just missed it but its funny and cute" so I just watched not shipping them right away . Then I saw this juju sanpo I realized Utahime is clueless af and whatever they had going just tripled the brainrot in my head !! Sooo many possibilities I just love that they arent canon (yet) and omg the crumbs!! I love that they just work well together bc despite her "hating" him and him loving to annoy her, it's shown how much they trust each other. They're each other's constant. I love it.
The brainrot was too much and I couldnt see that much fics or art at the time so I had to draw what I wanted to see and the rest was history (you can checkout my gojohime fanarts @eru-sauce orthrough #🍊.eru art tag looool
I met so many good people through the gouta community Im so thankful ☺️
also shoutout to my aot moots for sticking with me even after not shutting up these two lol. Fr they're the ones who saw me fall down the rabbit hole lol

GOJOHIME DRABBLE 6.0
Note: this was set after chapter 356. A self-indulgent drabble and headcanon after learning the news of this chapter. I don't know how Japanese funeral works and I wasn't able to research it, so I don't know their way of blessing a funeral and just rely on my imagination that they might be blessed in a shrine (like how in my culture are blessed in the Church by a priest during the ceremony).
Gojo's body was brought to the shrine altar and Utahime performed a ritual. Everyone were watching - watching his body be blessed to avoid turning into a cursed spirit, before the actual funeral. Suddenly, blood pooled down from Utahime. Shoko was shocked and called her out of worry. She tries to approach her but was stopped by a barrier. Why is there a barrier? Anxiety and confusion, Utahime's students also tried to pass through the barrier but was also stopped. They were shouting her name, but she still keeps going, blood still flowing out. It runs directly to where Gojo is. All of them were shocked. Shoko, still wide eyed and tears starting to apepear, was about to destroy the barrier but Ichiji stopped her. Ichiji explained to Shoko that he was the one who put up the barrier because Utahime requested it. She asked him to make it counter everyone so they won't be able to enter. Shoko told him to take it down then, but Ichiji said no. He made a binding vow with Utahime as an alternate way for him to keep him out the veil too. "WHAT THE FUCK IS SHE DOING?? WHY IS SHE DYING??" Ichiji gulped and took a deep breath before answering Shoko, who is now enraged. "She's doing a ritual by giving her life as a way to boost Gojo-san extremely slow RCT, so that he woullld return back alive...I-I'm sorry." As Ichiji finished his sentence, Utahime's body suddenly enveloped in flames. Her body's burning.
In exchange of her life, her technique will boost to surpass its limits, to help Gojo's brain increase its RCT output.
Utahime starts to disintegrate, and said her farewell to everyone and told them to take care of him. And she turns into dust - leaving only a single bell that fell from her wrist. Its sound felt like a last farewell from her.
In the airport, Gojo stood up making his decision where to go and said "See you guys later!" As he is about to pass through the entrance of his choice, he saw a glimpse of a familiar hair color. He turned to get a clear look from it but it disappeared. He shrugged and continued his way.
The ones left in the waiting area were surprised to see who the new person that came. Geto chuckled and shakes his head, "Senpai, how can you be so cruel." Everyone around him agreed to him. She gave them a soft sad smile, "It's okay...for the sake of everyone, it has to be done. I bet he'll get himself up eventually, cause he's the srongest."

Dude idk if you have seen this TikTok before but it was basically some random utahime x gojo shipper saying that while heading to the gojo vs sukuna fight the way utahime was standing next to gojo apparently meant that they were married and that the way utahime was dressed meant that she was pregnant so that means they banged so they can continue the gojo bloodline??? 😭😭 and then I saw that I was like “wtf dude is heading to the biggest fight of his life and y’all are just thinking he just had time to bang and marry someone” Their whole ass page was DEDICATED to saying that gojo x geto never made any sense and that utahime and gojo are better and have better chemistry💀… I swear utahime x gojo shippers are another level of delulu
for me, it was always satosugo that was "delulu" (and this is coming from a stsg shipper too!) and just mlm shippers in general. i've noticed a lot of stsg shippers (on twitter) harrass gojohime shippers ("they don't even LIKE each other" "they barely interact, why would you ship them" "you guys are just homophobic cuz wtf is this") and act as if their ship is the superior one. a lot of mlm shippers in general like to act as shipping two dudes together is a form of activism and anyone who doesn't have an mlm ship is a homophobe 💀
ever since i got a twitter, i've slowly delved away from shipping cuz man can shippers be TOXIC. shipping's supposed to be fun. it's literally just us making two barbie dolls kiss and make up stories for them, THATS LITERALLY ALL WE'RE DOING 😭 but so many ppl are being so cruel over it by doxxing and making up lies about other ppl cuz they don't like their ships
as long as the tiktoker stayed respectful and didn't harass anyone or say anything homophobic towards stsg shippers, i don't really care if they're "delulu". shippers like to ship stuff after all. they can do whatever they want with their fictional characters, but if they start harming REAL PEOPLE over their nonexistent uwu babies, then you should report them or block them
but if they're not harming ppl, then just ignore them and don't interact with their posts. tiktok algorithm will assume you enjoy gojohime content and show you more on ur "for you" page

Oyasumi Nakigoe, Sayonara Utahime
(CreepHyp, 2013)
In which I present to you a song that has not at all been stated/hinted on by Gege in his work with regards to Utahime nor Gojo (nor anyone really), but surprisingly perfectly encapsulates gojohime of JJK.
I saw tweets about this, and I thought I'd give the song a listen. (It's a banger, btw.) And woah...the lyrics are just...woah.
This is an attempt to explain the canon gojohime relationship dynamics through this song (with HC based on canon since Gege could only tell so much, and this is merely a miniscule dot of the whole story of JJK...still, it's fun to do).
NOTE: This post is in no way trying to impose itself as canon because I am not Gege. I repeat: I am not Gege. The song is just...well, interesting.
ALSO:
For the purpose of discussion, I will be retaining some Romanji instead of using the literal English translation.
Uta = Song
Utahime (Uta + Hime) = Singing Princess / Diva
GoUta (For Japanese) = 5 + Song
***
First Verse
Good-bye, Utahime
This is the last song, right?
I really love your song
Again tonight, Utahime, you're so beautiful
I really love you
I will be deliberately skipping this verse for this discussion/analysis (might include this in the next post).
The lyrics start strong though, immediately conveying the speaker's feelings towards "Utahime".
One interesting detail to note is the amount of times the name "Utahime" and the word "uta" is mentioned in this uta.
Another interesting detail to note in JJK canon is the amount of times Gojo has mentioned Utahime's name EVEN as he was talking to Utahime herself or talking about Utahime. It is also canon that Utahime is the only person Gojo calls by her first name without honorifics besides his classmates and his students. (Panda is unfortunately following suit.)
Second Verse
Good-bye, Utahime
Are you going to give an encore?
Since it's up to you, probably not
Tumblr media
According to Gege, Gojo honestly thinks that their banter is just that..."banter". (Meanwhile, Utahime absolutely hates Gojo. The reason being? ...) Despite this, it has been shown how Gojo tiptoes around his interactions with Utahime. He even calls her "scary", whether it be a joke or not or both. (Note: In JJK 0, Gojo notes how "women sure are scary/scary" in reference to Rika. Just a random, completely unrelated fun tidbit.)
If that's the case, Utahime, how about some alcohol?
Tumblr media
Even though I'm a lightweight
Tumblr media
It is canon that Gojo accompanies Shoko (+ Ijichi and Nanami?) to drink regularly (although Gojo orders other sweet drinks instead). It is also well-established that Shoko and Utahime are good friends.
It is also canon that Utahime loves beer and is a bad drunk while Gojo doesn't and is a lightweight. At the same time, Gojo prefers sweets while Utahime dislikes it. Gojo's sweet tooth extends to his drinks as seen by him adding sugar cubes to his coffee during his call with Utahime. It is also implied that Utahime prefers other bitter drinks such as tea, which she serves Gojo during the Goodwill Event. It is interesting to note that Gojo accepts this drink.
The song begins with the first verse, giving a gist of the canon relationship dynamics Gojo and Utahime have, especially during Season 1 of the Goodwill Event.
Chorus
Singing, singing
But you were crying, weren't you?
Tumblr media
Crying, crying
[Gojo, I wasn't...!]
I didn't even realize it
Gege initially wanted Utahime to belt out and do some karaoke as part of her CT. (Although, this might still happen in the future.) If it's also not obvious enough...I mean, her name literally translates to song.
What I do want to focus on is aside from the established fact that Utahime was/is a scaredy cat and a scream queen, Gojo sincerely thought that Utahime would be crying in this scene. This is either because: 1) Utahime is weak and the weak cry easily, or 2) Utahime is also...a cry baby.
Judging by what we know of both Gojo and Utahime, the idea that we can lean on is that Utahime does cry easily, irregardless of her being weak.
WHICH is interesting...considering of how much emphasis Gege has put on Utahime's expressions during the Shibuya Incident where Utahime looked like she's just about to cry any minute but never does. Even with the recent arc, Utahime looks quite...sad. Whenever the students are brought up in the equation, Utahime always has the same sad look on her face. But she was never shown to cry actual tears.
This verse opens up to Season 2 and its iconic "You cryin'?" scene. Utahime even attempts to insist that she wasn't crying (such a cutie sore loser lol). We will see the changes in Utahime in the last chorus.
Third Verse
Just for now, Utahime, can we start over?
I've also grown up a lot and thus have gotten pretty sentimental
Over 12 years worth of memories...both have grown a lot. Gojo himself has been quite sentimental as established by his own Blue Spring arc where his own youth was lost from him. Whereas the year prior to the current arc, he had to kill his one and only best friend.
I BELIEVE just as much as Gojo wishes to be given back his own youth, he is a realist and protecting the current youth is his priority. He wants to start anew, to look forward to the future (re: Give it Back, Special MV).
With regards to Utahime...
Tumblr media
Utahime is someone who has never left and never changed with regards to her relationship with Gojo. She is a constant in his life as he is hers. But this dynamic also means that there exists a constant barrier and distance between them. Gojo is, in canon, a constant source of stress in her life.
But does that mean Gojo doesn't try just a little bit at least?
I would say so...as Gojo's infinity is almost always ON except in certain situations (Gege did encourage us to play detective).
Tumblr media
Whether or not Gojo's infinity was actually off here is still a ???, which is fair! since the other contenders (Yaga, Nanami, and Itakugi) were in actual PHYSICAL contact with him. Utahime is the only one at a considerable distance. Again, that distance.
His infinity being OFF here could mean a proof of wordless trust and sense of safety.
His infinity being ON here could mean a sense of hesitation and wariness despite the trust he places on her for helping him out with the mole.
Either way, it's a distance that Utahime doesn't dare overstep, but instead retorts with the usual reaction that has been automatic for her and for both of them.
It's also a distance that Gojo doesn't dare take another step forward to because she doesn't. He has first-hand experience of trusting someone too much and then getting betrayed, after-all. Although he tries...only to an extent, though.
HOWEVER STILL, in order to actually take a step forward, it's necessary to start fresh and start over, which is hard when it's automatic and has been a habit of over a decade. Not only that, as per the MechaMiwa panel, is it actually worth it?
[Why can't they just get along?]
[They must get it from you, Utahime.]
[You're the only one I have a problem with!]
You always do whatever you want
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It has been quite established in both the anime and manga that nothing (not her scarred face, her "gutlessness", her being weak and a semi-first grade sorcerer despite years, her CT that takes time, her being in close proximity with Gakuganji who directly answers to the higher-ups, not Mei Mei, not even Gojo, etc.), absolutely nothing stops Utahime from doing what she believes she should do. Utahime always does whatever she wants. We see it when Utahime goes to check-up on Miwa (despite knowing she doesn't have to) and when Utahime rushes to protect Miwa (despite knowing she shouldn't).
(((Funnily enough, I did not plan for this discussion to follow the flow of the manga/anime, but it does. So here we are...)))
Chorus
Utagoe, utagoe
But you were crying, weren't you?
Nakigoe, nakigoe
Tumblr media
I didn't even realize it
[A look back to the chorus]
I believe that it has been established quite enough in the manga/anime that Gojo's quite a self-aware person. He's in tune with his feelings, thoughts, capabilities, etc. He is also quite aware about others' but still acts accordingly because he's Gojo.
Despite this, as stated in the Second Verse discussion and canon, he's not aware of what Utahime actually feels about him (perhaps because Utahime herself is in the forbidden zone?). Gojo doesn't realize that Utahime, in fact, hates him even though every time he strikes a conversation with her, he always seems to check up on her emotions.
[Are you mad?]
[I'm not mad, actually.]
[Are you crying?]
[I'm not crying!]
It's some sort of confusion, isn't it? Befitting emotion from someone who sees himself as "the honoured one" and who thinks differently from the rest, yet is still human.
If it isn't clear enough, this song is definitely from Gojo Satoru's POV.
Bridge
(a literal bridge to both POV)
The last 4 beats, your mouth moves
The last 4 beats, you sing
The least 4 beats, your feelings move
Tumblr media
Sa-yo-na-ra
At this point, the bridge seems to capture the panel beforehand. Words, gestures, dance, music — all leading up to the four beats of Goodbye.
The number 4 is also quite relevant. In Japanese, it's an omen for death after-all. However, what comes after 4 is just as relevant (*ehem* 5 *ehem*). (4 is also relevant for Akina Nakamori. That's for another post, maybe.)
Final Chorus => JJK 223 + Utahime's CT
Singing, singing
But you were crying all along, weren't you?
Nothing, nothing
I didn't even realize it
Uta's CT is related to music and includes chants...thus, singing, singing.
Note that as of JJK234 and Gojo's unsealing, Utahime has not explicitly spoken a single word in the panels...thus, nothing, nothing.
[But you were crying all along, weren't you?]
[...I didn't even realize it.]
It'll be quite interesting to see a circle back to the first scene of young Gojo and Utahime at the near end of the manga.
Based on the song used to interpret canon (skipping the first verse), doesn't this actually convey Gojo's thoughts and feelings towards Utahime? A person he cannot convince, a teacher who loves drinking, a senpai who sings and cries, an accomplice who does whatever she wants, a sorceror who executes her CT through words and feelings, and a woman who he expects to bid farewell...
Yet he's the one bidding Sayonara, Utahime despite not knowing how she actually feels on 12/24.
***
***
***
Enter Utahime's CT: Solo Forbidden Zone, Akina Nakamori and Kinku...I might create a separate post for this, but I will end it with these lyrics from Kinku that ties well with Oyasumi Nakigoe, Sayonara Utahime:
You plan on making me say goodbye
But that’s advice I just can’t take
...
This confusion is love, isn’t it?
Soon I’ll be in the forbidden zone
***
***
***
Utahime is good-natured and yet stubborn. She tries her best despite all the odds stacked against her. She also loves and is loved by her students. That's quite easy enough to see in canon, right?
At the same time, Utahime hates Gojo...just as much as she is his Accomplice (re: JJK Chapter 63 title). For someone who seems so stringent with rules and doing things the "proper" way (confusion with Mei Mei's promotion proposal and CT which requires to commit to ALL steps), Utahime plays along with Gojo's baseball game (for the students, yes, but mainly for her, let's be honest here...she's the one into it the most), Utahime partners with Gojo to find the mole BEHIND the other superiors' back (for the students' safety), and Utahime aids Gojo in his most important fight despite the death of the higher-ups (for the youth and for the future of JJK).
She says one thing but does another. Love is confusion, isn't it? [Not saying anything romantic here. I'll leave it up to you all.]
[If a sorcerer asks another sorceror for help, it basically means, "Please, risk your life with me."]
Can't wait for Ch. 235 and the rest to come!
(have had this on my drafts for a while)

U being anti IH what if the same thing happens to gjhm and they become canon but don't have as much material as other ship?
I'm not sure if you're asking this with malicious intent or if it's a genuine question from a fellow shipper, but here we go.
(Oncoming lengthy response)
I've actually had this thought before. What if despite his different writing style, the general hate the Bleach ED got, & just how ridiculous it sounds, Gege pulled a Kubo? After all, he's a fanboy of the man (I wonder what he thinks of the Bleach ED? Is he aware of how it was received?).
I would be shocked, conflicted, & worried.
To start with, while neither ship should be compared due to how fundamentally different they are, I will say this. Despite several interactions, IH severely lacked chemistry, trust, & meaningful moments. Meanwhile, GojoHime with less on-screen interactions & a playful dynamic, have shown us a deep trust for each other & have worked together to achieve their shared goals. Despite being a minor side character, Utahime is one of the few people Gojo trusts & one of the three adults he calls by first name with no honorific. This already puts them leagues above IH, who were barely friends at best & acquaintances at worst.
So, I wouldn't want GjHm to somehow get the IH treatment in the end. I wouldn't wish that on any shipper, heck, I even feel sort of bad for the IH's, cuz despite becoming "canon" out of nowhere 7 years ago, they still. don't. have. content (especially from the author himself, who has shown no particular interest in his endgames. They don't even have a family sketch 🫢). Makes you wonder who really lost here (as IR has still gotten some content over the years post-ED...).
GjHm already gets enough hate for simply existing, despite it being a smaller ship with a smaller fanbase in the JJK fandom (the antis are threatened by the potential it has, not to mention it's the most popular JJK straight ship in Japan), so if Gege were to pull a Kubo, the hate would increase, especially towards Utahime, who of course would amass the most hate from this freakin' fandom that's obsessed with Gojo. It'd be a tough time for us fans of the ship & Utahime.
After dealing with the aftermath of the Naruto Shipping Wars as a soldier in the NaruHina army lol (don't even get me started on why NH is NOT like IH, plus we actually have content 🤪), & then witnessing the disastrous Bleach ED & the general hate it got, I do NOT wish to go thru this again. Whether you win or lose, if it isn't done properly, you'll still deal with criticism left & right... (why can't more battle shounens be like Fairy Tail when it comes to slowly developing the ships throughout the story? There'd be less drama...)
Gege keeps saying the manga will end soon, so that means if he wants to make anyone canon by the end, he'll have to start now. JJK is a battle shounen with no romance, but if despite this, GjHm are to be canon, then their moments leading up to it will have to be quality > quantity. Is there enough room/time to develop them the way we would wish? Doubt it, so we'll need at least a couple flashbacks to further justify them (and boy, we're still waiting for their flashback after Gojo's unsealing, if that ever comes...).
Basically, even if it's a few moments, they need to be impactful enough to make even the casual readers/viewers think, "I could see them ending up together." Subtlety & slow burn are usually the best fit for battle shounens, after all, &/or maybe a little further (once again, like Fairy Tail). With that said, out of all the potential ships in the series, I personally view YutaMaki as the most likely to become canon by the end; their moments, far & few in between, are enough to convince me that they could be endgame (that is, if the capricious Gege so wished 😓).
So far, we've seen nothing of what Gojo & Utahime truly think of each other. To reiterate, they have a silly dynamic but have shown to trust each other implicitly. Why this is, we can only guess. I mean, Utahime has risked her life for Gojo twice already (investigating the mole & buffing him against Sukuna). Where is this supposed "hate" she holds for him? It's stated in the databook that she hates him most of the time, so how does she feel at other times? 🤔 And Gojo, despite his teasing, has shown he cares for her, saved her, & obviously trusted her with the aforementioned important & risky tasks.
Just what is going on with these two? Is it really so impossible that there could be something more here? Whether now or later? Gege would just need to give us a little more... Though at this point, there's only so much we can hope for, considering his writing style & how things have been seemingly going... Gotta keep our expectations low...
(What if—delulu plot twist—GjHm are already together, either secretly this whole time—like some ppl have wondered, as this could further explain the immense trust in each other—or got together during the timeskip, & all we need now is the big reveal with a/some proper flashback(s) to explain it? LOL. Just a silly idea 😜).
Anyway, in general, I wouldn't want GjHm becoming canon at the cost of its beautiful potential. We'd need some more moments to justify it, or else I'd have to put back on my old "army uniform" to defend my ship if need be. So, despite how unlikely it would be, I can only hope Gege does NOT pull a Kubo (well, he's more likely to kill everyone off or something like that 🙄).
I'd rather he pulled a Sorachi (author of Gintama) & left things open-ended, keeping the fandom from turning into utter chaos...
(Maybe only that side might lose it, tho, lol. They get bothered by anything that doesn't adhere to their ship despite them being down here with us in Delulu Land, oop-).

I started jjk last night, I’m excited to meet the characters you’re always drawing!! don’t even know their names but they give me so much Kakashi/Rin vibes and I need more of that in my life, but I just hope it doesn’t end as tragically as it did for kakarin 🥲
omg I hope you're enjoying it! The characters I'm very info ar Gojo and Utahime (you've seen Gojo already). Make sure to watch juju sanpo (small snippets at the end ), this is how I started shipping gojohime!
There are definitely lots of parallel btw Kakashi and Gojo, Gojo just takes being annoying to whole new level. I like how you compare it to Kakarin tbh, but I won't spoil anything <3
