It breaks my heart that he malfunctioned :(
And the 84 suit got stolen and I don't think they ever found it.
I would gladly have this thing in my house.

What’s everybody’s most useless skill? If you show me any picture of Godzilla I can tell you exactly which Godzilla suit it is and who was wearing it.

it is kinda weird that like I kept seeing stuff about how the cgi allowed Minus One Godzilla to be even more expressive in a way we couldn’t get with suits and like
I feel like Minus One’s was one of the least expressive Godzillas we have had

saw jaws for the first time today and i can’t believe despite knowing so much about it through cultural osmosis i had no clue matt hooper existed and i love that funky little guy
#he’s just autistic about sharks and i love him for it. i forgive him for his crimes (being rich)#also his line about ‘having enough of these working class heroes’ or whatever. i was ready to fight him for that one#i knew about concerned police officer and weird old vaguely threatening fisherman but no one ever mentioned the silly little guy who just.#i knew when every jumpscare happened but i didn’t know one of the three main characters existed#he just loves sharks man. man was so funny. ‘hey i was told to tell you guys that you shouldnt all get in that boat’ ‘we’ll do it anyway’#‘okay! they’re going to die :)’#crazwaz posted#id seen the clip of matt discovering the body and the clip of them paddling to shore at the end!!!#but i’d never seen any clip of quint so i figured the one at the end was him and the body discoverer was a random character#he was wearing a wetsuit in the body scene and is seen from far away in behind in the final one so i have the right to not have realized ok#also weirdly enough my submechanophobia was not really triggered at all? which is wild. like one or two times it happened but like. that was#so weird to just. know that normally i’m scared of that kind of thing but it just. didn’t happen? like i’m scared of the jaws animatronic on#the universal ride! it scared me in pics and it scared me when i saw it irl! but bruce? nah she was just fine#that’s another thing i always think of bruce as she/her like. them all using he/him for the shark confused me#my brother mentioned she’s a girl in jaws 3d + in the wild girl sharks are bigger than boys so that’s probably what caused it#but i still think of godzilla as she/her and that one has like no evidence so maybe my brain just does that to them or smth

I only just saw pics of the Godzilla 1998 animatronic recently but I kinda can't stop thinking about her. Ik this film flopped, esp bc I think it was one of the first like let's make an american version of Godzilla films and they noteably redesigned him but idk every behind the scenes pic of this thing is gorgeous to me. I would've assumed it'd been tricks with miniatures, it's been years since I've seen the film but no they did just make her and she is huge I can't get over it.

Analog horror series explained poorly (underrated series edition):
Greylock: Foster's Home for Imaginary Eldritch monstrosities
Suitmation trials: "people possessing animatronics" trope but it's opposite day (and also Godzilla is there)
White Stag Education: creepy mask cult worships space Satan, also there's psychic drugs for some reason?
Sominum dream viewer: You VIEW dreams?? You view dreams like the TV show?? Oh! Oh! Distorted nightmare jail! Distorted nightmare jail for human for one thousand years!!
Happy meat farms: welcome to McDonald's would you like a beesechurger,a mutagenic horror beyond human comprehension that's being exploited by humans for their own selfish and foolish desires, or chicken nuggest
Surreal broadcast: oops! All interdimensional nightmare spiders! (Ft. The cult of the green guys)

Watched the FNAF movie on Peacock.
I loved the movie. I felt like there were things missing, hopefully a bigger cut will be released or just deleted scenes. But still loved it nontheless. It was it's own original story, which I expected. More Silver Eyes than the games. Not enough William, but he stole the show. I like Mike, Abby and Vanessa. Animatronics were great, ghost kids are creepy. That little fucking gremlin made a cameo.(and no I don't mean Gregory) and we got a tease to the sequel at the end credits.
Don't get the hate the critics are giving it, but then again they hated the Monsterverse Godzilla movies, so they wouldn't know taste if it licked them on the ass.

Kaiju Week in Review (February 4-10, 2024)
Tumblr media
Zoe Tunnell's Godzilla: Valentine's Day Special for IDW was everything I wanted it to be and more. While the kaiju are essential to the story, the focus is on the rivalry-turned-romance between an EDF captain and an independent kaiju researcher, which unfolds wonderfully across multiple attacks. Kaiju researchers have decried a military-first approach since 1954, of course, but Piper Simmons goes a step further by questioning whether an explosion in defense spending on shiny super-weapons is just making the problem worse. Essential reading.
Tumblr media
Shout Factory! TV added seven vintage Toei tokusatsu titles out of nowhere, all in Japanese with English subtitles. Magic Serpent (retitled Dragon Showdown) is probably the most familiar and of-interest title to kaiju fans, but there's also Planet Prince (the first of two films edited together and dubbed under the title Prince of Space), Invasion of the Neptune Men, Watari: The Ninja Boy, Ninja Scope, and The Golden Bat. Earlier today, we learned that they're all being released in a Blu-ray set as well—but more on that in the next column.

Here's a new CG short called Daikaiju vs. the Giant Girl (we are ignoring the typo in the thumbnail/video title). Great action, and I had to check the credits to confirm it was completely computer-animated.

When Titanic Creations first announced its articulated Gorgo figure, I was less than confident they'd be able to deliver on their promise of a graphic novel sequel to the film. Well, work on it seems to be progressing well, although at some point along the way it became a prequel instead. Artist Patrick McEvoy posted on his Facebook that the comic is fully inked. The company is also rather boldly setting it in the same universe as their original kaiju graphic novel Soul War, also illustrated by McEvoy.

Warning from Space has a surprisingly large role in this Martin Scorsese-directed Squarespace ad. Leave it to the world's foremost Marvel hater to have me watching and enjoying a Super Bowl commercial.
Tumblr media
I don't often post X-Plus news, but this Bagan figure based on his appearance in Godziban seemed noteworthy. They're also releasing a figure based specifically on the giant Cybot Godzilla animatronic from The Return of Godzilla, with the Shonen Rick limited edition including a small Shockirus.

Every single modern major movie release has CGI. Even the most painfully basic, least action-packed, most obnoxiously unfunny romantic comedies have some amount of CGI.
That’s why I know CGI isn’t really getting “worse”. With good CGI you either don’t notice it or it’s difficult to tell if it’s actually CGI or not. The reason it looks so bad in movies these days is because it’s rushed and over-used.
Why on God’s green earth does EVERY superhero need a CGI suit when a practical suit would look so much better and probably be less expensive? Why feature a super shitty looking CGI dog in your film when there are millions of well-trained dog actors, who love working, that you could cast for much less money? Why does that very human-looking alien need to be CGI instead of just an actual dude in makeup? What happened to animatronics? What happened to costumes? What happened to actually attempting to make something look real before resorting to CGI for literally everything?
People only think CGI these days is bad because of how much it’s misused and how rapidly movie sequels get shat out by studios lately.
I think a GOOD example of a completely CGI character is Shin Godzilla. He was CGI, but still had an actor playing his motion capture. Toho, which isn’t as big as Hollywood, managed to make their Godzilla WAY more realistic looking than Legendary Picture’s Godzilla just from being motion captured. His movements looked so natural that it was actually hard to tell if he was CGI or not when I first saw him.
CGI can look fantastic. It’s really just a matter of how it’s implemented.

Godzilla Ultima
After rewatching #Godzilla Singular Point a month ago, it was a question of time before I drew this badass Godzilla! (tho still don't like that Animatronic-like mouth of his) Jet Jaguar can be seen running away before that flock of Rodan gets atomized.

The thing about the fnaf movie is that like Godzilla, you want to be seeing the animatronics all the time, but you appreciate that you have to balance out their arrival with human stories.
And I thought Josh Hutchinson's story was pretty sweet!
