I just wanted to try and see where people views stand on the big guy and where he hit his biggest stride through Tokyo.

oh yeah i forgot to post about it at the time but i went and watched godzilla minus one in black and white last week and it was AWESOMEEEEEEE that movie looks SO GOOD in black and white and now when i see pics of the color version i'm like umm that's not right. if the black and white version doesn't get a dvd or piracy site release i'm gonna throw things. also watching it a second time was interesting because like - ok so when i watched it the first time i spent a long time trying to sus out just what exactly the movie was trying to say about imperialist warfare (beyond a blanket generic "war is bad" that most people can agree with) until finally near the end the covert militarism and jingoism really started to click for me. so i expected that watching it a second time, knowing what this movie is about, i would immediately start to pick up on those vibes from the start. but instead what became very clear to me is that, for some reason, all that stuff is concentrated in the latter part of the movie, and once godzilla is done blowing up ginza it's like a switch is flipped and suddenly the movie becomes about Disaffected Veterans coming together to create a private army because the government didn't let them fight the war good enough last time and also super secret wwii prototype planes are like, so totally awesome. it's a really jarring change in thematic focus that was just not present in the first half of the movie, or at least not as much. weird
anyway despite that the final action scene was still awesome to watch. i felt very much like "oohing and aahing at shikishima doing epic plane stunts while shaking my head so everyone knows i don't approve of glorifying kamikaze pilots". ultimately despite my criticisms i feel like that second watch solidified minus one as one of my favorite movies because it's a really well-made movie but i still feel like an understanding of the concerning political undertones is really really important to have and i'm still gonna log on and get mad at everyone who is like "wow based leftist anti-war movie"
anyway that's my review. it looked so good in black and white

Godzilla sketches ft Anguirus
I don't really have much to say about this. The scars on Goji's face are from Gigan, since Godzilla vs Gigan was released in '72 and he was the first monster to have Godzilla visibility bleed on film. So yeah.

Godzilla Minus One first 15 minutes spoiler thing
from the Machine Translation of the Novelization
Because the un-mutated Goji was there for at least a day before attacking the mechanics.
I was wondering when watching the movie if that was the idea.
The novelization presents the un-mutated Godzilla in a slightly more sympathetic light, while still an utterly brutal, unforgiving, easily set-off , and borderline divine animal; it isn’t just a beast that does nothing other than kill.
Then again Machine Translation could be fucking it up who knows

A childhood dream of mine is to make a godzilla horror movie. Akin to Shin Godzilla and the 54 original but with way more body horror. So I did some concept art for a film that will never be made.
