How old do you think you are?

It's been selfie week on MLTSHP; just one of those unofficial things that starts off with one or two people and it turns into a trend. I posted my own as I recovered from covid.

The thing that strikes me is how much older everyone seems to be compared to my assumptions. I should know better; many of the folks on that site are people I've known on MetaFilter and other sites since the early 2000s, so of course they're not teenagers. Those early bloggers and Twitter friends are all in their late 30s at minimum, and much more likely their 40s and 50s. But I have come to realize that I perceive my online self as still being in my late 20s/early 30s, and everyone else being that age as well.

It's not evenly distributed — I definitely feel older on TikTok, and I don't really think about age at all on Instagram. But in my mind, the me that is on the internet is roughly 28. (In some ways that's about how old I perceive myself in real life, too, but not entirely; my body reminds me every day how old I really am.)

So my question is this: How old are you on the internet, in your mind?
