academic rivals to lovers is actually the most entertaining shit in the world. youre competing for top of the class but also for each others attention. youre giving presentations in class and silently hoping they slip up just a little, forget part of what theyre meant to say, just so you can get a higher grade than them. theyre constantly on your mind & taking up brain space and you rationalize that away, call it hatred. you answer a question correctly in class a split second before they get the chance to and youre glad because you beat them to it but also because you know theyre looking at you

Spent the entirety of Babel going "omg this reminds me of this" and the thing it reminds me of is a long list of jstor articles I've read at some point.

I enjoyed the book but I think I enjoyed it more because it wasn't anything new conceptually to me. I think it's an excellent tool for getting people to confront their relationship with colonialism and its violence, but with that comes the stages of grief. If you have never or never fully confronted this, sometimes you do need a moment to catch up.

If this book confronts you, I think reading it again after you have come to the acceptance stage of your relationship with colonialism enhances the ability to enjoy the book because you spend the entire time going "oh my god so true Rebecca"

two years ago is when i read a little life and my life is still permanently changed by that book. i tried to reread it and literally started crying on the first few pages😭

rereading inkheart, the book that got me writing at age 10, and it's incredible how much i'm still trying to replicate the way this prose sounds. it's been 16 entire years of writing and it's left such a mark! i'm still chasing these emotions after all this time!
