I’m still obsessed with Glencaster Lodge years after I first read it. Have you ever considered writing a follow-up, even just a little spicy old men Andreil something?

I feel like Andrew not being allowed by his cardiologist to exert himself too much could lend to a really lovely fic about Neil showing Andrew just how much he likes him.

Annoyed/mildly stroppy, rolling his eyes a lot/pouting/glaring in mild annoyance at the foxes just being the foxes and everyone on the team (from the book, any freshmen from Neil's second year are the same as always) knows that he doesn't mean it and it just a grumpy little gremlin?

possibly its cheating to describe a fic you yourself prompted me to write but i still have a fantasy that one day i will write a renison sequel to glencaster lodge. i have so many beautiful scenes planned out for it (and so little time for writing these days 😭). but theres this whole scene i really adore where allison designs a dress for renee (white, with pastel rainbow on the hem, based off a photo allison saw of renee in college) and theyre supposed to go to a fancy gala together but renee just gets very tense and realizes she doesnt want to go mingle with a bunch of rich fashion people, but she feels awful and guilty because allison went to the trouble of designing her the perfect dress. and allison is like fuck that. i didnt make the dress for them, i made it for you, and if all you ever do is wear it in private then i will consider myself priveleged to have ever seen you wear it.

anyway they are very sweet and i stg i will write it one day but for now please just picture old lady renee in a white dress with rainbows on the hem because i love that image so much.

Andrew stepped off the train into two feet of snow.

Well, technically the platform was shovelled. But the ground beyond was carpeted in a thick, glittering layer of crisp snow, the wind quick and sharp where it cut under his coat. He grumbled and pulled his scarf up over his face, dragging his suitcase in one hand.

His other hand was occupied with King’s carrier. She glared sourly up at him through the grate, but she didn’t move from her place on the blanket.

The same could not be said of Sir. Neil had to pass off his suitcase to Renee as he juggled the rapidly rocking cat carrier containing Sir’s protesting body. Sir yowled, low and unhappy.

“I know,” Neil said. “We’re almost there, okay?”

“He doesn’t know what you’re saying,” Andrew said, heading towards the taxi stand.

“That doesn’t mean he can’t understand the tone,” Renee said, hiking the two suitcases she was dragging up and following Andrew. Andrew grunted, disagreeing. To say that cat was unintelligent was to drastically understate the situation.

Hello. Strange question...I’m having a very hard time seeing Andrew and Neil as old ppl in your glencaster fic. Do you have any old man references that you were ‘ahh yes this is them’??? This is so strange but I had to ask

my google search history just got very populated with old people. I wonder what google thinks of me.

ANYWAY this is very hard for me because i am not a very visual person and don’t have very solid reference images for my characters (i get a lot of flak in creative writing circles for never describing my characters lmao) but here’s my best try!

For Andrew I’d say the closest is Nick Offerman in this pic:

short but well maintained beard, neutral face is more scowly, but of course Andrew’s hair would be a little lighter coloured as he’s a good fifteen years older than Nick. Andrew’s maybe a lil heavier set, but Nick’s definitely got the best grouchy face for it. mostly i just picture him kinda like this

For Neil maybe Colin Firth?

good looking, but a lil unkempt, hair is usually all over the place. You just need to switch his and Nick’s eyes and you have a good approximation.

Also Neil’s got scars so actually:

“It is not that cold out,” Neil said. “You’re being a drama queen.”

Andrew scowled at him, though the effect might have been diluted by the fact that his entire face was wrapped in a scarf, a toque pulled low over his forehead so only his eyes were visible. A cold snap and a sprinkling of snow had hit the city a few days ago. “It’s April,” he groused.

“It’s barely below freezing.”

“I did not settle in the South because I wanted to deal with fucking winter.”

“Sorry, what was that?” Neil said. “I can’t hear you through all those layers.”

Andrew smoothed his shirt, a black button up with silver buttons that Renee bought for him a few years ago. His hair was washed and combed, and he’d taken the time to carefully reshape and oil his beard. His reflection in the mirror gazed back, the turmoil in his stomach unreadable on his face.

Neil’s two weeks in Australia had gotten extended into three, which segued into another two weeks spent in LA with Allison. He’d been back now for five days, but Andrew had only seen him twice; once to return King, and once for a Friday night movie. He was…surprised, by how much he missed having him around.

Today, however, was not about Neil.

He took one last look at himself in the mirror and gave himself a curt nod before heading into the living room. He took a seat at his desk, measuring his breaths carefully.

He hit the call button before his nerves could fail him. The wall in front of him lit up with a red cartoon rotary-style phone, a jangly tune ringing. The phone blinked green, and Andrew sat back, watching as the computer projected a life-size image of his brother onto the wall in front of him.

For a second, they just stared at one another.

Customs disappeared behind Neil and cool air rushed over his face. He inhaled deeply, relieved to be through. Even now, flying pushed on old, buried triggers, sparks of anxiety fizzling in his veins.

“Neil!”

A smile broke over Neil’s face, the memories flushing away as he spotted Dan and Matt. Matt held a paper sign in his hand, which appeared to spell out Neil’s name in glued-on cheerios.

In three steps he was past the gate and enveloped in Matt’s arms. He released the handle of his suitcase to wrap his arms around Matt in return, squeezing.

“Hey,” Matt said.

“Hey,” Neil whispered, a smile pinned against Matt’s shoulder. He slipped out of Matt’s arms and into Dan’s, inhaling the scent of the coconut oil she used on her scalp. Neil sighed as her hand cradled his head.

She ran her hand down the back of his head and stepped back, inspecting him up and down. “How’s my second-favourite husband?” she asked, the corner of her mouth quirking upwards.

“Better, now,” Neil said honestly. Dan’s eyes softened, and she scrubbed a hand through his hair as if to rub away her sentimentality. Neil smiled wider. “Ready to go?”

“You’re going to hate it,” Matt said cheerfully, leading the way towards the taxi stand. “There isn’t an Exy stadium for miles.”

Dan looped her arm around his waist, relieving him of his bag. “It’s the worst,” she said. “All we do all day is hang out on the beach. It’s incredibly boring.”

“Is it?” Neil asked, grinning.

She grinned back. “But that’s all going to change now that you’re here.”

“You’re not going shark diving!” Matt shouted from ahead of them.

“We’re going shark diving,” she said conspiratorially.
