Can I please get HC for Echo, Kapkan, Jäger and Vigil x Fem!Reader [Indicidually] who recently joined their team and is just super badass? Like they just admire her while she is on a mission and kicks ass?

・masaru had heard his fellow operators talking about you in the morning, but just shrugged it off and assumed that you were nothing special

・he first sees you as he got into the coach/bus for you guys and 3 others to be taken on a mission and he’s honestly surprised because you look pretty good for being the newest op in rainbow, but ofc he does wanna say anything about it😭

・once the mission begins, he begins to focus on the task at hand and almost forgets about you, until he turns a corner to see you eliminating two enemies and he cant help but feel surprised..

・he stared for a bit.. yep.. definitely just a little tiny bit.. not for long at all..

・after snapping back to his senses when he sees you give him a puzzled look, he probably will give you some cold seeming, but still kind comment, something like “i guess youre not that bad for a rookie” or “uhhhdhjdhgh i wouldve done it better but still, not bad”

・you and masaru stick together for the rest of the mission, not saying much or conversing apart from callouts and intel

・he watches you closely, and tries to focus but he just cantttt

・your teammates are confused why hes being warmer to you than everyone else after the mission

・at the end of the day he waits until everyone is gone before quickly and bluntly asking you on a date

・maxim isnt the kinda guy you’d expect to see fanboying over the newest operator, yet here he is :o

・he likes your badass demeanour, its different, it feels refreshing to him and he likes your style with it aswell ngl

・many bad attempts at him stealing glances at you both the full way there and during prep phase

・after setting up his traps and all he tries to find a spot to camp nearby you so that he can see and watch how good you actually are in the face of danger, while also looking out for enemies, of course

・your talent catches maxim off guard.. and he cant help but gawk slightly

・no one can see because of his hood and mask, but his mouth is so slightly ajar watching you in action

・hes not used to having crushes, or even having much interest in others at all! so this is different and he isnt sure how to feel or act towards you

・tries to show off subtly, which only his close comrades pick up on, no doubt he will be teased for that later by glaz and tachanka

・they especially start to pick up on his crush after the mission when maxim hesitantly approaches you and strikes up a conversation, which is fairly unlike him

・marius is intimidated, to say the least

・cant keep his eyes off of you, and when your other teammates call on him you can hear the slight stutter in his voice

・he also keeps trying to find an opportunity to talk to you, he wants to ask about your gadget, as it strikes his curiosity, and just get to know you in general

・after getting a nasty kill he glances over to you to see if you noticed it, only to realise you were currently holding the upper hand in a 1v2

・he’s whipped for you without even realising, which his gsg9 mates pick up on, smirking to each other

・at the end of the final round of you guys’ training session, blitz comes up to you and recommends that you go speak to marius, explaining that hes a bit shy to go talk to you

・you strike a convo with him and boom, once he realises youre not actually that scary on the inside, all he does is talk to you and tell you about all the shows hes watched, what random fact he found out two days ago, what he had for breakfast, everything! and you just have to try your best to keep up

vigil

・chul-kyung takes a liking to you, but no one need to know that in his opinion

・honestly you kinda scare him a bit, but nothing in the world could ever get this information out of him, also he finds you hot tho, definitely

・he studies you very intently, tryna figure out what your whole thing is

・notices that you’re in a 1v3 and dashes to the enemies from behind, only to notice that youd killed them all by the time he had gotten there. this guy was gobsmacked, youd stolen his spotlight as the “cool edgy talented one”😭

・he keeps a close eye on you for the rest of the mission, and was pretty shocked to see you in action, he wasnt sure if he should stay in his position or join in your fight in order to help defend

・and its the same for vigil as it is as echo, where his teammates are very very surprised to see his usual cold persona shift to a softer one for you

・over time you two work together more, and are by far one of the most badass and scary duos at rainbow

・sometimes he just sits back and lets you handle some very intense scenarios, which worries you guys’ teammates, but he knows you can handle it

Still kinda bummed about the r6s skins in dbd. Like they added blitz's elite (an elite I loathe), wamai (a mid operator personality wise imo) and like the new guy. like whyyyyyyy? Why not do literally any of the poster children??? Like why Blitz's elite his normal skin's much better.

And why only survivors I wanna see Cav as Legion (all other stealthy killers are liscenced) or perhaps smoke as the clown (but I can understand them waking to keep his silhouette the same) they could have done Echo as skull merchant or Glaz as Gunslinger.

Nøkk perhaps as wraith (again silhouette issue so I get that) Hell if they wanted to do an elite skin, they could have done Alibi as the Hag with her elite. I know it's but of a pipe dream to hope for them as killers but it would have been nice to get like... Ash as a survivor skin.

Barracks bunk assignments under the cut. Why? Well. Fanfic reasons and because if I don't write it down now I'll forget.

Format: Top Bunk - Bottom Bunk

Thatcher - Capitão ( Mute was formerly Thatcher's bunkmate, but Caveira threatened to castrate Capitão and now this is the arrangement. )

Sledge - Alibi ( Smoke begged to bunk with Maestro after their first boxing match. Alibi agreed, but only if she got bottom bunk )

Doc - Montagne ( it was immediately agreed upon, but they usually share one bunk anyway... )

Twitch - Rook ( the played rock paper scissors for who got which bunk )

Jäger - Bandit ( one of those "They're usually on the same bunk anyway" situations, but Jäger prefers to be high up )

IQ - Blitz ( there was a brawling match over top bunk. Blitz learned that IQ is weirdly good at pinning a man down when she wants something. )

Glaz - Tachanka ( Finka jokes that they put two tops in the same bunk. Kapkan continues to tell her to shut it )

Kapkan - Fuze ( in which Tachanka teases Kapkan for finally being a top in something and the hunter threatens to kick his ass )

Ash - Castle ( surprisingly easygoing )

Thermite - Pulse ( Thermite used to be bottom bunk but traded after Pulse rolled out in the middle of the night and needed medical attention for a broken nose )

Frost - Buck ( they're always talking. Always. Frost has 900 trains of thought at any given moment, send help. )

Blackbeard - Valkyrie ( Genuinely, they could sleep through a hurricane. Probably HAVE slept through a hurricane... )

Mute - Caveira ( they're besties, actually, and she does his makeup )

Hibana - Echo ( she actually volunteered for top bunk because he looked dejected at the idea of actually climbing into bed. She teases him about being lazy )

Mira - Jackal ( Jackal isn't even there most of the time. His bunk is the bottom bunk for ease of containment when he's captured )

Ying - Lesion ( this is primarily because Lesion knew better than to let anyone trade with her. )

Ela - Dokkaebi ( Doki continues to wonder if Ela actually uses her bunk )

Zofia - Vigil ( the not so easygoing bunk, this place is fucking immaculate at all times )

Finka - Lion ( much to his dismay )

Smoke - Maestro ( a disaster duo. One always has more bruises than the other. Mute continues to tease Smoke about sexual tension )

Mozzie - Kaid ( Kaid refused to share with a woman, and his choice was respected. Unfortunately for Kaid, he doubted a man could be so... much. )

Wish we had more lore on the relationships between ops. I mean we have IQ, Valkyrie and Finka all being workout buddies while finka herself is friends with doc, tachanka and blitz. Cav and echo are friends apparently. Frost and nomad are friends while nomad, Twitch and aruni travel together so they might be friends.

Meanwhile....

Or Ela?

Ash is only really friends with Castle and sees Thermite as a brother so not much there

On one hand, I wish there was more lore, indeed! On the other hand, as time passed and I saw how the writers handed Siege lore... I think I want them as far away from my favs as possible, and I'll make the lore myself, thanks 😂

I think neither Ela nor Zofia probably had many friends in Rainbow, partially because their strained relationship and quarrels bled into everything and it's very uncomfortable for a third party to get dragged into it (neither sister has any chill, I be anyone around them has seen them fight multiple times). However, Zofia strikes me as more repressed and self-isolated than her sister, thanks to Jan Bosak's A+ parenting (sarcasm very much intended). Ela might have been on friendly terms with other artists (Glaz, obviously, maybe Nomad since she draws maps on her journal), maybe to other rebellious figures (I think she could have gotten along with Clash, Cav and Lion, imo). But ultimately she seems too selfish/self-centered -it's all about her family situation and how she feels suffocated by it- so she was easily swayed into leaving for NH.

Oryx's only known relationship is with Kaid, and it's a clear master/mentor at best, boss/grateful employee at worst. I've always wondered how the three Fortress operators fit together, and what Oryx and Nomad's relationship is. Do they get along like mere acquaintances, or as two exasperated siblings? Or maybe they just don't particularly care or like each other? Is there a rivalry between them for Kaid's approval, does he favor one more?

About Ash, Harry's board from The Hammer and The Scalpel gave us a lot of info, and most of the threads coming from her are green! We know she has some sort of cat & mouse game going on with Caveira, she greatly respects Thatcher, Tachanka and Doc despite having different approaches to leadership than they do, and she excahnges technical knowledge and expertise with Fuze! We also know from more recent lore that she gets along with Mira much better than she used to (their old rivalry seems gone).

Glaz/Echo oneshot in which Echo refuses to apologise for something, uh, unsavoury. (Rating T, chaotic nonsense, ~1.4k words) - written for @magehir!! 💞💞

“You pissed into my closet.”

Echo immediately loses track of the complicated equation he was working out in his head and feels the sudden urge to bang his head against the tabletop. Looking up, he’s presented with an inexplicably disgruntled Glaz looming over him and glaring. All that’s missing are his hands on his hips to complete the nagging housewife aesthetic. “Are you nuts? I did no such thing.”

“You’re very welcome to come home and smell it yourself. Is that why you were gone so early this morning? Because you didn’t want to be forced to clean everything?”

“No. I was gone early because that’s the time we go to work, Timur, though I suppose I can’t expect you to know this seeing as you’re never on time.”

“What?” Indignation warps Glaz’ features into an even more alluring grimace. There’s no way Echo would ever admit it, but Glaz looks stunning when he’s angry. “I’m always punctual!”

“I highly doubt that, considering you always get up more than an hour later.”

“That’s because you take forever with your stupid hair. You get up with messy hair, comb it, and then very carefully mess it up again.”

“Not true. I don’t take that long. And besides, it’s not stupid.” He chances a quick glance around to look for the nearest reflective surface just in case there really is something wrong with his hair. When he comes up empty and turns back to their argument, Glaz seems even more unimpressed. “You were late today. So there’s that.”

“Yes. I was late because I had to throw all my clothes in the wash because they stank. Because you, as I said, pissed into my fucking closet!”

“Don’t pin this on me, are you sure you didn’t do it yourself?”

“Of course not! Why would I do that?”

“Well why would I do that? Just the fact that you’ve been yelling at me for five minutes is reason enough not to.”

“Maybe it’s payback for the time I threw up all over your favourite trousers. You do have a vindictive streak, you know.”

“But I already forgave you for that. That’s long settled.”

“Yeah, because you made me buy you a new pair.”

“Which you chose based on which ones made my ass look best.”

“Can you blame me? Have you looked in a mirror while wearing them? Wait, I have a photo somewhere…”

And while Glaz is tapping away at his phone, Echo heaves a sigh and turns to Mute next to him, intending to complain some more when he realises that everyone in the workshop is staring at them, except for the young Brit who nonchalantly keeps tinkering with one of Smoke’s gas grenades. Zofia, in the process of pouring herself a glass of water, apparently abandoned her previous activity halfway through without setting the bottle down, and has created a small flood on her side of the room. No one around her seems to have noticed.

“Haven’t argued in public before, mate”, Mute murmurs distractedly as if he could read minds.

That actually explains a lot. Echo considers addressing the room but figures a statement like this is normal or maybe a reassuring at least neither of us has threatened to break up yet wouldn’t improve the situation. Not with how appalled Mira already seems to be.

When Glaz shows him the evidence, accidentally navigating back to the gallery and revealing about a hundred secretly snapped photos of Echo, he can’t even muster up the energy to be angry.

“I don’t ever want to argue in front of other people again”, Echo says without interrupting his head massage. Glaz is curled up on top of him, petted into a content, catatonic state, and so it takes him several seconds to reply.

When he does, he stretches first, pressing closer to him and rubbing his cheek against Echo’s chest. It’s so freaking adorable he considers abandoning the topic in favour of just snogging until they can’t breathe but freezes when Glaz sleepily mutters: “Shouldn’t have pissed in my closet then.”

His irritation is back full force. “I didn’t fucking -”

“How do you know?”

“- what?”

“Really, how do you know? We both can’t remember much after Dom got the gin out. How can you be so sure it wasn’t you?”

“You know what, maybe it was Dom. He did stagger home later, but that doesn’t disqualify him.”

“Don’t pin this on other people now.”

“He’s a perfectly viable option! I admit that it’s unlikely you yourself did it, but that doesn’t -”

“Besides, you’re Asian. You already don’t deal well with alcohol.”

Echo’s eyes begin hurting from rolling so hard. “Seriously? We’re doing stereotypes now? Then explain to me how I managed to drink more than you did. You’re Russian after all, you should have vodka running through your veins.”

“But just because I’m Russian -” Glaz stops mid-sentences, re-evaluates and seems to belatedly understand. He turns in Echo’s embrace so they’re eye to eye. “I take it back. I’m sorry.”

“It’s fine.” Echo purses his lips in anticipation of a kiss, maybe some more, a sweet locking of lips turning sloppy, or even just Glaz pushing a hand under Echo’s shirt to run his finger over warm skin, but instead Glaz just looks at him expectantly. “Hm? What is it?”

“Don’t you also have something to apologise for?”

“What do you …”

“My closet.”

Due to the ensuing fight, they miss most of the film they were watching and restart it, only to get caught up in a discussion about whether they’ll order or make food, with both of them being too lazy to make anything but too indecisive to agree on any takeaway. After realising they still have leftovers, they gorge themselves on an adequate amount of stir-fry rice and end up much the same as most evenings: Echo gaming at his PC and Glaz stretched out on the couch, sketching and letting the TV entertain him in the background.

“Why do you always argue with me?”, Echo wants to know over his shoulder during a particularly long matchmaking queue. Frowning, he corrects himself: “Why am I the only one you argue with? You rarely do with your team or your friends.”

Glaz doesn’t even look up. “Because with you, I don’t feel like I need a filter.” And when Echo doesn’t respond, he adds an amused: “I know you’re blushing.”

“Honestly, it’s a good thing you can keep up with Glaz in drinking or else the Russians would’ve long lost what little respect for you they still have”, Bandit announces cheerfully and slaps down a Draw 4 card.

As usual, it’s only the two of them left in the game, due to Echo’s superior skill in strategy and probably Bandit’s cheating, the other guests having congregated in the kitchen and leaving the two of them to battle it out. “What do you mean?”, Echo wants to know and increases his hand size to whopping 10 cards with a sigh.

“You’re terrified of mistreating him in front of them, so they think you’re proper whipped. Which, if you ask me, isn’t even far from the truth.”

How very dare he. Just because Echo convinced his guild to adapt their raid schedule to Glaz’ liking doesn’t imply - “Why do we even still invite you over?”

“No idea, especially after I was so drunk last time that I ended up pissing in Glaz’ closet.”

Echo’s eyes snap up in disbelief. He opens his mouth, ready to tell this little sack of shit exactly what he can do to himself, but it’s at that moment that Glaz enters the room again. Perfect timing. He waves him over with a: “Timur! Come here. And you, Dom, repeat what you just said.”

Bandit’s genuine amusement shifts into mild concern. “Please don’t. I just told you I wouldn’t take the blame for you, didn’t you listen? No amount of money can make this right – if you urinated all over Glaz’ clothes, you should just admit to it and apologise.”

And while Glaz starts yelling at Echo about bribing others to be his scapegoats, while Echo is utterly dumbfounded and merely gapes at the audacity, Bandit puts down another Draw 4 and winks at him.

My #1 post of 2022

There’s been a lot of talk about AO3 and censorship lately, due to one of the candidates to the OTW board. And I realised I have very strong Opinions:tm: about censorship and the freedom AO3 stands for.

Censorship is not a solution. It doesn’t work and it’s not even easily agreed upon where the line should be drawn. What some people might deem as immoral or reprehensible is not the same others will consider so. For example, you and me can agree that sexual stories about minors turn our stomach, yet other people would also include LGBT+ content there, even the sfw ones, and others might decide that any sexual content at all is immoral. So, how do we agree about what to ban, when nothing of it is even illegal?

because let’s be honest, it’s all fiction. As in, not real. Things like incest, rape and pedophilia are illegal irl, but not in fiction. Cause they’re not harming anyone. Really. You can find it disgusting, I certainly do, but I also recognize no person, no actual human, is harmed in the making of those stories. Because they’re made up and about made up characters. I won’t seek it out, and if I see someone making that kind of content I will most probably avoid them/block them (without harassing them), but they have the right to create any kind of fiction they want.

It always baffles me how readily understood that is when it comes to murder and violence in fiction. Nobody thinks that someone who writers murder mysteries or procedural shows really wants to go out and kill people. However, as soon as it’s about sex, people are up in arms ready to believe that those make believe scenarios are an indicative of someone’s real desires. Why is that? And since we’re on the topic of double standards: why are people clutching their pearls about fanfic, but literature gets a free pass, more or less? You go into a library and you’ll find lots of books with shocking and distasteful topics, including those that contain pedophilic content (like Lolita, to put a famous example), incest (Game of Thrones, among many others), rape, murder, etc. But they want me to believe that fanfic, the medium with severely impaired social acceptance and magnitudes smaller reach, is the actual problem that will “normalize” those ideas? Nah fam, I smell a moral panic, and people finding fanfic writers easier to bully into submission. Because this is all about controlling what forms of creative expression are deemed acceptable. Fanfic IS a form of art, popular art if you will, but still art. And by virtue of how AO3 is designed, it’s ridiculously easy to never see the kind of stories that you find objectionable.

Tags are a wonderful thing. I can specify what I want and what I don’t want in my story results when searching! Tags are the author being responsible and giving due warning. Especially the “dead dove: do not eat” tag, it lets you know that the content of the story will have questionable content, proceed at your own risk or keep scrolling. Same as the “chose to not use archive warnings” that one is a warning in itself that the story might contain triggering/upsetting content, and it’s the prerogative of each reader to decide whether they’re comfortable continuing reading or not. Ultimately, it’s all about taking responsibility for one’s decisions. People who are in favor of censorship in AO3 either don’t know how to control and curate what materials they access, or feel entitled to everyone else taking their morals into account instead of taking responsibility for their own experience in the archive.

None of the stories on AO3 is illegal. Fictional stories are not illegal, not even those dealing with unsavory topics. The archive makes people agree to continue reading whenever you click on a story with a certain rating (or without any rating at all, just in case!), so the reader is giving their consent to continue reading, they’re making an informed choice. Same as with the tags. They’re there, they’re a warning. If someone reads the tags, finds them displeasing and still continues reading, that’s on them. If I find a story with tags about rape/non-con, for example, I keep scrolling. Cause I know I will find the story displeasing and upsetting. The people clutching their pearls and going “but think of the children!” are, mostly, people who refuse that responsibility and ask the world to accommodate them and their morality. And then throw around words like pedohilia and accusations of “kiddie porn” careleslly, watering down the seriousness of such accusations. No, an explicit fanfic of twin, underage siblings going at it is not CSA. Cause there’s no real children involved in it. It might be disgusting for a lot of people (me included), understandably, but you can 100% avoid reading it and interacting with the people who write those.

Finally, let’s not forget the recent history of fandom spaces, shall we? LiveJournal and Fanfiction.net both had purges of content, after some campaigns for censorship gained traction and popularity. So now everything relating to certain topics is eliminated! Well, except that also includes communities of support for survivors of sexual abuse (it happened in LJ). Well, except that the people pressuring for censorship weren’t happy with the gay smut either, so a lot of LGBT related stuff is now also gone! (happened both in LJ and ff.net). Except, in some countries anything sexual at all, is frowned upon, so why not ban that too? Censorship supporters will always move the goalposts, forever shifting their aim whenever they accomplish something. Because it’s easier and more comfortable to make others conform to their standards than accepting some artistic expressions will be uncomfortable to some people. And trust me, none of them will care if the dark fic in question was written by a survivor of similar experiences trying to cope with their trauma or raise awareness, or if it was done simply for titillation or to safely explore different scenarios in fiction. And the topics that were banned in those websites didn’t disappear at all, they just weren’t properly warned for/detailed in the summaries, so anyone could stumblre upon them by accident. The complete opposite of what happens in AO3.

AO3 was created by people who lived through those censorship events in different fandom spaces, as a response to it. To seeing whole communities and swathes of fan content being unceremoniously deleted overnight. AO3 is an archive and an online library, not a social media platform. It’s a safe haven for anyone to host their fan creations, but that doesn’t mean it’s a safe space as people understand the term in other platforms. In AO3 you make your safe space by using the tags. Because that is the only real way we can have a safe haven for EVERYONE.

The thing about freedom of speech is that sometimes, you have to defend things you dislike (that, I repeat, are legal in this case), because experience has shown time and time again that as soon as you give an inch to the censors, they take more and more. And today they’re up in arms about “pedophilic fanfics”, but once that is done? It might be all nsfw content, it might be trans related content, it might be something else. But it will happen.
