National Museum of African American History and Culture: Afrofuturism: A History of Black FuturesAfrofuturism: A History of Black Futures explores the past, present, and future of this dynamic concept in an exhibition that features the various people, unique themes and radical artistry that have given voice to it. Featuring hundreds of objects and images with several multimedia displays, this exhibition explores the history of Afrofuturist expression and culture through literature, music, art, film, fashion, activism and more.
U.S. National Archives: Black Arts Movement (1965-1975) The Black Arts Movement was a Black nationalism movement that focused on music, literature, drama, and the visual arts made up of Black artists and intellectuals. This was the cultural section of the Black Power movement, in that its participants shared many of the ideologies of Black self-determination, political beliefs, and African American culture. The Black Arts Movement started in 1965 when poet Amiri Baraka [LeRoi Jones] established the Black Arts Repertory Theater in Harlem, New York, as a place for artistic expression. Artists associated with this movement include Audre Lorde, Ntozake Shange, James Baldwin, Gil Scott-Heron, and Thelonious Monk. Records at the National Archives related to the Black Arts Movement primarily focus on individual artists and their interaction with various Federal agencies.
Google Arts & Culture: African American Art: Harlem Renaissance, Civil Rights Era, and Beyond African American Art: Harlem Renaissance, Civil Rights Era and Beyond presents works dating from the early 1920s through the 2000s by Black artists who participated in the multivalent dialogues about art, identity, and the rights of the individual that engaged American society throughout the twentieth century.
National Gallery of Art: Black Art & Artists in Our Collection Explore works from Black artists across centuries, mediums, and geographies, ranging from 19th century still life painter Robert Seldon Duncanson to modern and contemporary pieces by Jacob Lawrence, Romare Bearden, Alma Thomas, Sam Gilliam, Kara Walker, Hank Willis Thomas, and more.
Smithsonian American Art Museum: African American Art SAAM is home to one of the most significant collections of works by African American artists in the world. These artworks span three centuries of creative expression in various media, including painting, sculpture, textiles, and photography, and represent numerous artistic styles, from realism to neoclassicism, abstract expressionism, modernism, and folk art. From a rare group of photographs by early African American studios to an important group of works by self-taught artist Bill Traylor to William H. Johnson’s vibrant portrayals of faith and family, to Mickalene Thomas’s contemporary exploration of Black female identity, the museum’s holdings reflect its long-standing commitment to Black artists and the acquisition, preservation, and display of their work.
NYPL: Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, Art and Artifacts Division The Art and Artifacts Division collects, documents, preserves, and interprets art and artifacts by and about peoples of African heritage throughout the world. Fine and applied art and material culture objects from the seventeenth century to the present are collected, with emphasis on the visual arts of the twentieth century in the United States and Africa.
Google Arts & Culture: Beat by Beat This interactive online exhibit was created as a celebration of 50 years of hip hop in collaboration with The Kennedy Center, The Bronx County Historical Society, The Museum at FIT, The National Museum of African American History and Culture, The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, The Baltimore Museum of Art, The Hip Hop Education Center, and HipHop2020 Archive.

The Amazing Nina Simone She was left out of Civil Rights history, erased by jazz critics, and forgotten by most Americans because no one knew how to categorize her greatness. But throughout the 1960s, Nina Simone was both loved and feared for her outspoken vision of Black Freedom. Her musical proclamations like "Mississippi Goddam", and her iconic style created an alternative voice that continues to empower with its unrelenting appeal for justice. Now, a new documentary reveals the real Nina Simone through over 50 intimate interviews with those who best knew the artistry and intentions of one America's true musical geniuses. With new insights into her journey from Classical Music and the segregated American South, Nina's legacy is chartered all the way to the South of France where she finally found freedom.
JazzJazz has been called the purest expression of American democracy; a music built on individualism and compromise, independence and cooperation. Ken Burns follows the growth and development of jazz music from the gritty streets of New Orleans to Chicago's south side, the speakeasies of Kansas city and to Times Square.
Jean-Michel Basquiat: The Radiant Child Director Tamra Davis pays homage to her friend in this definitive documentary but also delves into Basquiat as an iconoclast. His dense, bebop-influenced neoexpressionist work emerged while minimalist, conceptual art was the fad; as a successful Black artist, he was constantly confronted by racism and misconceptions. Much can be gleaned from insider interviews and archival footage, but it is Basquiat's own words and work that powerfully convey the mystique and allure of both the artist and the man.

Summer of Soul (...or When the Revolution Could Not Be Televised) In his acclaimed debut as a filmmaker, Ahmir "Questlove" Thompson presents a powerful and transporting documentary, part music film, part historical record, created around an epic event that celebrated Black history, culture, and fashion. Over the course of six weeks in the summer of 1969, just one hundred miles south of Woodstock, The Harlem Cultural Festival was filmed in Mount Morris Park (now Marcus Garvey Park). The footage was largely forgotten, until now. This documentary shines a light on the importance of history to our spiritual well-being and stands as a testament to the healing power of music during times of unrest, both past, and present. The feature includes concert performances by Stevie Wonder, Nina Simone, Sly & the Family Stone, Gladys Knight and the Pips, Mahalia Jackson, B.B. King, The 5th Dimension, and more.
Through a Lens Darkly: Black Photographers and the Emergence of a People The first documentary to explore the role of photography in shaping the identity, aspirations and social emergence of African Americans from slavery to the present, Through a Lens Darkly probes the recesses of American history by discovering images that have been suppressed, forgotten and lost. Bringing to light the hidden and unknown photos shot by both professional and vernacular African American photographers, the film opens a window into lives, experiences and perspectives of Black families that is absent from the traditional historical canon. These images show a much more complex and nuanced view of American culture and society and its founding ideals. Inspired by Deborah Willis's book Reflections in Black and featuring the works of Carrie Mae Weems, Lorna Simpson, Anthony Barboza, Hank Willis Thomas, Coco Fusco, Clarissa Sligh and many others, Through a Lens Darkly introduces the viewer to a diverse yet focused community of storytellers who transform singular experiences into a communal journey of discovery – and a call to action.
Black Art: In the Absence of Light At the heart of this feature documentary is the groundbreaking "Two Centuries of Black American Art" exhibition curated by the late African American artist and scholar David Driskell in 1976. Held at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, this pioneering exhibit featured more than 200 works of art by 63 artists and cemented the essential contributions of Black artists in America in the 19th and 20th centuries. The exhibit would eventually travel to the Dallas Museum of Fine Arts, the High Museum of Art in Atlanta, and the Brooklyn Museum. The film shines a light on the exhibition's extraordinary impact on generations of African American artists who have staked a claim on their rightful place within the 21st-century art world.

Disney Month:The Love Bug 1997
For the 17th installment in Disney month we shall look at the TV movie reboot/sequel to the classic Herbie franchise ,The Love Bug
Tumblr media
In this 1997 TV movie Herbie,a living Volkswagon Beetle finds himself with Hank Cooper(Bruce Campbell ) a mechanic and former race driver with his own insecrurities and a bit of jealously over all the attention the car gets, ignoring is oddball artist friend Roddy Martel(Kevin J O Connor) telling him the car is alive ,meanwhile a former owner of Herbie, the pompus race car driver Simon Moore III (John Hannah ) makes contact with Herbies creator  Dr. Gustav Stumpfel (Harold Gould ) to make his own living car ,the feral Horace
The Herbie series, which follows the adventures of this living car ,was iconic back in the day,one of Disneys few big franchises (Which I know sounds insane now ,considering the MCU...Which this has a connection to.....I'll get to that ),though now is seen as a curiosity ,a forgotten relic of a bygone time,or just dismissed as stupid.I will confess I am not a Herbie expert ,I have only seen three films (This one,the original Love Bug ,and Herbie Fully Loaded ) but I am a Herbie defender,I actually think the premise is cute despite having a disdain for cars . I think the original Love Bug is a classic and while my memories are hazy ,I enjoyed Fully Loaded as a kid .But What are my thoughts on this film.....Honestly I really enjoyed it
Now I have seen some lukewarm thoughts on this film dismissing it as only noteworthy cause the lead is Bruce Campbell and if you know me well you might be scoffing and saying "Oh they only like it cause they like Bruce Campbell"....I cant lie and say thats NOT a factor, because it is.I am a Bruce Campbell fanatic ,I adore Evil Dead, The Adventures of Brisco County Jr ,Bubba Ho Tep ,Man With The Screaming Brain ,My Name is Bruce ,his performances in Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs ,Maniac Cop ,Black Friday ,Lois and Clark ,his cameos in Sam Raimis Spiderman franchise ,I could keep going .Point is he is one of my favorite actors, having old school movie star charisma /good looks, a character actors sensibilities and expert comedic slapstick timing on par with the old masters like Buster Keaton or Harold Lloyd .I am a fan and as a fan it is fun to see him get to be in a goofy Disney comedy as opposed to usual horror fare he is well known ,but not just in a "Tee hee aint it wacky to see Ash talk to Herbie " way,I think he is a legit good choice for the lead, cause he is charmy, got his trademark snark ,but can do the vulnerability and make you believe that he cares for this car ,cause of course he can , this guy fought his HAND in a movie ,he can definately make me belive he has a friendship with a living car .So yeah it is a factor ,but its because he is such a good actor I think he is an asset......But I dont think he is the only asset
So I kind of find it baffeling people looked at this and dismissed it because it has so many THINGS that make it stand out....Including the fact the director is Peyton Reed, who has gone on to direct THE ANT MAN trilogy ,and he kind of brings the same sensibility he brought to Ant Man to this ,which I can only describe as lovingly silly. Like the movie knows its audience will find it silly ,and while it acknowledges it ,it loves it and embraces it .It pokes fun at some cliches but it also embraces some, and because some things are played sincere, they also are really funny
The cast is great ,not just Campbell ,as the film is full of character actors .We get some fun small parts from Burton Gilliam and Jeff Garlin ,and highly enjoyable supporting performances by Clerance Williams III ,Harolg Gould ,Dana Gould , and Micky Dolenz .Alexandra Wentworth is a good love tinterest, playing with some tropes ,and John Hannah is a very entertaining weasily pompous villain .My favorite character is Roddy played by Kevin J O Connor who is this artist who is able to communicate with Herbie ,being very lovable as wel as very funny .Also Dean Jones, star of the original film reprises his role of Jim Douglas ,and even though he isnt in the film alot its fun to see him here
I adore Horace the evil car ,I like that he is an extention of Simons evil and is a feral monster ,but has a connection with Simon .I think the production team did a really good job giving menace to this car
My only complaint is it feels like Herbie himself gets sidelined ,but the film still works.
Overall, this is such a fun underrated gem and not a bad intro to Herbie, though personally I think ones should watch the original film first

Another County Joins Greater Idaho Campaign
Another Eastern County voted to approve allowing its governing body to advocate for Greater Idaho talks. Wallowa County voters narrowly approved the measure by seven ballots — eight would have created an automatic recount. The voices of the three remaining counties, Crook, Umatilla, and Gilliam, have yet to be heard on the decision. However, Crook County leaders unanimously agreed to allow voters…

THE ZOMBIE WEDDING Announces Cast & Completion of Principal Photography.
Tumblr media
Weekly World News Studios, the entertainment arm of the Weekly World News tabloid universe, is in the midst of principal photography on The Zombie Wedding, its first feature film, just wrapped Principal Photography  in Vineland, NJ. The following are confirmed in the cast: Cheri Oteri (SNL), Krystina Alabado (American Psycho), Mu-Shaka Benson (The Blacklist), Kevin Chamberlin (The Addams Family), Donald Chang (Squid Game), Heather Matarazzo (Welcome to the Dollhouse), Seth Gilliam (The Walking Dead), Vincent Pastore (The Sopranos), Deepti Menon (Never Rarely Sometimes Always), Christine Spang (Succession), Ajay Naidu (Office Space) & Micky Dolenz (The Monkees).
Tumblr media
The Zombie Wedding, written by Greg D’Alessandro, Chief Creative Officer of Weekly World News Studios, was originally launched as an interactive theater event in New York. Joe Corcoan (the original Producer of Tony N’ Tina’s Wedding) produced the theatrical event and is also a producer on the film. The Zombie Wedding  is the first ever wedding of a human bride and a zombie groom.  Directed by Micah Khan (Safe House), the film follows the story of a young couple in Vineland, NJ during the zombie apocalypse, who decide to go ahead with their wedding, even though it seems like an impossibility to pull it off. The humans turn out to be more difficult than the zombies and the ceremony takes a turn for the weird when the Zombies become brain deprived. In the end the wedding delivers a universal message of acceptance, love and understanding.
"As a huge fan of zombies, aliens, Bigfoots and cryptids, I’m ecstatic to direct The Zombie Wedding and bring the Weekly World News universe’s first film to audiences. Greg’s script immerses you in a wacky, absurdist wedding gone wrong. Our amazing cast is sure to create anxiety about zombie apocalypses breaking out during your special day,” said Director Micah Khan
This “ZomCom” is a comedy/horror/romance with original music throughout.  The Zombie Wedding is about zombies, but it has a strong heart and a message of universal acceptance, peace and understanding. Original music produced/recorded by Jean-Paul Bourelly, including a new version of Nile Rodgers' Le Freak.
The town of Vineland, Cumberland County, The NJ Film Commission, Weekly World News Studios and outside investors provided needed funding and support to bring the film to fruition. Weekly World News Studios received a 99-year lease for a production building with a soundstage in Vineland for film, television, podcast and other work intended to stimulate the local economy.
“Thomas Edison made New Jersey a pioneering film center in the early 1900’s. The state, county and Vineland community are building on that legacy to support this film and those that follow,” said Greg D’Alessandro , WWN Studios’ Chief Creative Officer.
Grace Lovret and Robert Dragotta are Executive Producers. Greg D’Alessandro , Joe Corcoran, Sue Wolf and Maria Capp are Producers.

Vote results are in There were a few interesting propositions on ballots at the state and county level in midterm elections that took place Tuesday, November 8 th 2022. In this article, however, I will be focusing on Oregon. First, let's take a few minutes to review this article from a liberal publication. Gun laws and abortions: Why Eastern Oregon votes to join Idaho. Both Morrow County, and Wheeler County voted in favor of Idaho's partition. The Greater Idaho ballot measures have been passed in 11 counties in central Oregon and eastern Oregon. These propositions were passed by 62% or greater majority. There were nine counties before Tuesday's vote: Sherman, Jefferson and Klamath. Now, Morrow (60%) and Wheeler (58%) counties are joining in. More Western Oregon Gun-Grabbing The statewide Oregon Ballot measure 114 was another ballot measure. This anti-gun legislation is terrible. To possess any modern firearm (post-1898), would need a permit from the state government. This includes fingerprinting, background checks and mandatory training. A second provision would ban magazines containing more than 10 cartridges. This is what I am writing on November 9th. It appears that the measure was passed with 50.7%. This ballot measure was supported by the liberal and more populous western counties of Oregon. People in central and eastern Oregon overwhelmingly opposed it, but they are unfortunately outnumbered by the state’s "wet-siders". In May 2022, Josephine County and Douglas County voted against the Greater Idaho plan. Ballot Measure 114 passed, so it is possible that another vote on Partition will be taken in the opposite direction. In fact, I anticipate a petition being circulated to retest the Greater Idaho partition within Douglas and Josephine counties sometime between 2023 and 2024. Four additional counties in central and east Oregon need to vote on the issue of partition. In 2023, a vote is already scheduled for Wallowa County. A Greater Idaho press release states that "County clerks refused to permit the movement to gather signatures from Crook and Gilliam county, and county commissioners of Crook, Gilliam and Umatilla have not yet agreed for an advisory question to be placed on the ballot." Ballot Measure 114's passage will be seen by eastern Oregonians as the "last straw" in the forthcoming Greater Idaho county-level referendums. It will be evidence of the fact that the east and west halves share nothing. The "woke" politics in the west counties of The Cascades has become a chronic disease. It will not be possible to reconcile the differences between the dry and wet sides of Oregon. A partition inevitable. The question isn't "if", it's "when". Loss of Eastern Counties Willn't Cause a Loss in Revenue One common argument is that if Eastern counties split, it will result in a loss of income or property tax revenue. In reality, there are many roads and bridges that require maintenance and repair. The eastern counties are subsidized in Oregon by taxpayers from the western counties. The eastern counties have negative tax revenue! The End Game It seems very likely that the Greater Idaho Movement will prevail. It is almost certain because of politics and demographics. It is likely that Idaho's state legislature will approve it. However, Oregon's state legislators might delay their approval for a few more years. They fear losing many counties that collectively make up 60% of Oregon's land. They will have to give in at some point, probably during an Oregon state budget crisis. The U.S. Congress will need to approve the partition. I pray for a positive vote. JWR

The Outer Banks Voice - Dare Board paves way for OBX’s first pet crematorium

The Outer Banks Voice - Dare Board paves way for OBX’s first pet crematorium
Dare Board paves way for OBX’s first pet crematorium
By Michelle Wagner | Outer Banks Voice on November 7, 2022
Colington facility still needs Special Use Permit
Dare County Board of Commissioners.
The Dare County Board of Commissioners on Nov. 7 unanimously approved a request for a zoning text amendment that would allow for pet crematoriums as an accessory use to pet grooming and kennel facilities in certain areas of Colington.
The request was made by Pam Anderson, who owns Ocean Sands K9 Resort located on Williams Drive, which includes primarily residential homes along with Liberty Christian Fellowship Church and Camp Emmanuel, as well as about five acres of undeveloped land.
Anderson told the Voice the facility will be called Rainbow Bridge Pet Cremation Services and will open in six months. When complete, Rainbow Bridge will be the first pet crematorium on the Outer Banks. Currently, those seeking cremation services for their deceased pet must travel to Elizabeth City or Virginia Beach, she added.
According to Dare County Planning Director Noah Gilliam, Anderson still needs to apply for a Special Use Permit to move forward with the project.
The text amendment applies to all areas in the R-2B Zoning Districts (Alternative Medium Density Residential) on Colington Island. According to the zoning ordinance, the intent of the R-2B Zoning district is to serve as a transition zone between low-density areas and more intensely developed areas, as well as to provide a setting for a limited number of business uses associated with a coastal village location.
Pet cremation services must be 200 feet from a residential dwelling and the incinerator must be contained inside a building, according to conditions of the new text amendment. It also requires that a licensed/certified operator be on staff. Cremation services must also be limited to domesticated animals, not livestock.
Anderson said that the Rainbow Bridge would be in a separate building on site. “It’s a really needed service,” she said, adding that it will offer a much lower cost for cremation services and a more personalized option since it will be available locally. The Outer Banks SPCA, she said, could also utilize the service, offering that agency a financial benefit as well.
There were no members of the public who spoke during the Nov. 7 public hearing, however one homeowner on Williams Drive submitted a letter to the Dare County Commissioners opposing the project.
“I am very upset and shocked that this type of business would even be considered for Williams Dr. and Ocean Sands K-9 Resort,” wrote Barbara Noel in an October 13 email, noting that the property backs up to the heavily populated Colington Modular community and next door to the church. “The smell, the fire hazard and improper disposal of animals will impact my residential neighborhood negatively immensely — also our property values.”
Board Chairman Bob Woodard, however, threw his support behind the crematorium. “Let me just say that I’ve visited the site and the applicant has complied with everything that’s been asked of her,” he said. “The neighbors across the street are fully in agreement with this…she’s also going to help out the SPCA with their animals in need.”
Earlier this year, commissioners lent its support to another project on Williams Drive when it unanimously approved an amendment to the church’s Special Use Permit to allow for a 15,000-square-foot family life center across the street from the church.
