what is the simon incident in s1? i consider watching bridgerton but i wanna be prepared
Hello anon I’m so sorry for the delay in my reply. Hopefully I will be able to post more on this blog for now on.
Okay, so be prepared for some heavy spoilers from season 1 of Bridgerton under the cut, as well as explicit mentions of SA as depicted in the show and book.
I think the whole Simon r*pe scene is a complicated thing to tackle properly. I’m not even sure if I’m the right person to do it, but I will try my best. I think in general, Simon and Daphne’s sexual relationship and the way they enter into it is deeply problematic. Like, from the very start.
Some context first: in the story, Simon and Daphne are both backed into a situation in which they have no other option but to get married [insert a bunch of sexist bullshit reasons here], and although they both are clearly attached to one another, they each have individual issues that prevent them from having a healthy sexual life as a couple. Simon has dramatically vowed to his father that he would never get married of have any children to pass down his family name and wealth, and Daphne doesn’t even understand what sex is.
No, really. She gets married without knowing how sex works, but Simon does have sex with her anyways, and because he doesn’t want to have children, lies by omission to her and uses the pull-out technique to avoid getting her pregnant (which, makes him a fucking idiot, if you ask me, and chances are he was going to get her pregnant at some point either way, but I digress), without actually explaining to her what he’s doing, and telling her they won’t be able to have children because he is “infertile”. That to me kinda taints the relationship from that point onward, because Simon is basically coercing Daphne into having sex without giving her all the information about their reproductive precautions (or lack thereof), or y’know, how babies are made in the first place. Now I wanna make it clear that by explaining this to you I’m not trying to justify what Daphne does to Simon next, but I want to give some context so that I can properly explain why Shonda Rhimes and Julia Quinn, the creator of the show and author of the books respectively, don’t see what Daphne did as that big of a problem.
The r*pe scene itself plays a little differently in the show and the books, though the build up to it is basically the same. Daphne finds out how babies are made and discovers that Simon has been lying to her by omission for months and gets (rightfully) angry, so she decides that the only reasonable response to this is r*ping her husband as a way of regaining her agency (???). That’s not me making shit up, it’s literally the logic SR and JQ, and also Chris Van Dusen, the show runner, used for including the scene at all (watch at min 7:30. Also, see, told you the build up and context to that scene was important!).
Now in the show Daphne goes to Simon after she premeditatedly decided to r*pe him, starts to have sex with him and then forces him to ejaculate inside of her (I don’t want to go into too much explicit details, but yeah). In the book Daphne doesn’t exactly plan on r*ping Simon, but after he drunkenly stumbles into their bed at night wanting to have sex, she agrees and then also forcefully makes him ejaculate inside her. In both cases, Simon is understandably very distressed by the situation but never receives any kind of apology or resolution for what happened, and rather he just kinda gets over it eventually.
Honestly, I’m constantly changing my mind about which one of these two versions of events is worse, but I think we can all agree both are objectively very fucked. Like, yes, Daphne, as a woman in 19th century England, is wholly dependent on her husband for literally every aspect of her life; that’s messed up and there’s nothing wrong with wanting to explore that as a theme. But the answer for her gaining agency shouldn’t be… fucking r*pe.
What’s even more frustrating to me is that it did not have to be included at all. They could’ve just as easily have the scene be about both Simon and Daphne getting drunk and having sex and in their recklessness Simon forgets to pull out and freaks out, which in turn helps Daphne realize that the suspicions she’s been having for some time now are actually true, so when she takes a stand against Simon we as an audience can actually get behind her.
(And I know what some might say: female characters should be allowed to be flawed and that we don’t need to always be on their side. That is correct. But, first of all, you don’t necessarily have to turn them into r*pists to make them complicated, and second, if you do, at least let them own up to it and don’t have the narrative frame them as the victims and justify all of their actions. I feel like the show is doing a better job at this with the character of Penelope than they ever did with Daphne, i.e., what Penelope does is shitty and her actions are presented to us as such, she even suffers consequences!).
Then to finish all of the above add in the fact that in the show Simon is black. Now obviously Simon being a white man in the book doesn’t make what happened to him okay, but I think the optics become increasingly uglier when you present it as a black man being SAed by a white woman and then the narrative putting the blame squarely on him while the white woman is presented as the real victim and she never has to apologize or make up for her actions. Just my two cents.
This isn’t the only time the Bridgerton franchise depicts SA against specifically black people. This happens in the spin-off show, Queen Charlotte, in which one of the few black female characters is repeatedly maritally r*ped by her husband while some goofy ass music plays in the background. Ugh.
Anyway, thank you for sending me this ask! This is a topic that I’ve wanted to talk about for some time now and I hope I did so with sensitivity. I’m not necessarily saying that Bridgerton has no redeeming qualities as a show, but these are important aspects to take into account if you wanna get into it. It’s definitely my biggest pet peeve with the show, to be honest. Season 2 is lit, though, even if the writing is messy.

Short and Sweet
Pairing: Benedict Bridgerton x Reader
Word Count: 853
Warnings: Best friend’s brother— is that a warning? This is just a short lil thing for Valentine’s Day
A/N: The poem and response in this came from Thomas Richardson’s “Gentleman’s Valentine Writer” which wasn’t actually published until 1828 but I needed ideas, okay? Also, I wrote this when Bridgerton was still the lead in the poll lol
Tumblr media
Living beside the Bridgerton household had many advantages. Being close in age to Daphne gave you the perfect excuse to spend time with her. However, spending time with Daphne meant also spending time with the rest of her family, which allowed you to form a close bond with them all. One Bridgerton in particular being Benedict.
Benedict was a few years older than you, but within a perfectly reasonable range that made it acceptable for you to fancy him. How could you not? He was sweet and sensitive, but he had a playful side that brought joy any time you were fortunate enough to witness it. Although, you never dared to dream that Benedict might return your affections. You were the best friend of his younger sister, surely he would not think of you in that way.
Initially, you had been excited to be presented before the queen and sent out into society. But while Daphne had been deemed the season's incomparable, you had fallen into her shadow. You were happy to see your friend receive many visitors and gifts, but some days it would hurt to see a line of men outside her door while you waited in an empty sitting room.
Waking on Valentine's Day brought nothing but sorrow. It was only one month into the social season and you already felt that you were destined to become an old spinster. With no prospective husbands in sight, you would likely have to face a second season. You did not expect that you would receive any callers that day, yet you waited in your sitting room in a fine dress, as you did every other day. Your mother sat in a chair at the far end of the room, leisurely reading until something would happen.
Early into the day, your butler entered the room with a calling card in hand, "A Mister Bridgerton is here to call upon Miss Y/L/N."
"Send him in," You replied, feeling your chest constrict. It was possible that one of Daphne's brothers had come to pass along a message for her, but a gentleman visiting while you were accepting callers still brought you a shred of hope.
Moments later, you saw Benedict step through the doorway, holding something behind his back. He smiled, "I see I have gotten here before the rest."
You returned his smile, nervous, yet calmed by his presence. "I think you will find that the gentlemen are coming to your door today, not mine."
"Then they are fools and I am lucky to have you all to myself."
"What can I do for you, Benedict? I find it hard to believe you would be here as a suitor." You spoke the words in jest, but felt your throat tighten as you said them all the same.
Benedict's smile fell into confusion, "What is so hard to believe about that?"
Taken aback by the genuine confusion in his tone, you clarified, "I only mean to say that I would not have expected it."
"If that is the case, I hope that you find this to be a good surprise," For just a moment, you heard a bit of nerves in his voice as he tried to present a confident image. "Unfortunately, I cannot stay long. But I wanted to bring you these and to officially declare my affection."
Finally, Benedict moved the hand behind his back to reveal a beautiful bouquet of morning glory and myrtle. You smiled wide at the sight, "Thank you, Benedict. They're lovely."
Shortly after, Benedict had to take his leave, although he promised to come back the following day. Once he had left, you reached for a book on the language of flowers. You found that morning glories are used to represent affection, meanwhile myrtle is used to represent love and marriage. Learning that brought a blush to your cheeks, finding the meaning to be a little bold, but not unpleasant.
It was then that you noticed a small folded piece of parchment beside the flowers. When you unfolded the paper, you could see the painted design done in watercolors. A man and a woman stood beneath a tree, which was situated between a lovely cottage and a church. The image was small, but you could tell that the couple was you and Benedict. On the other side of the parchment was a simple note.
I boast not eloquence, dear Miss, Nor do I write exceedingly fine; Therefore, I bluntly ask you this-- Pray, will you be my Valentine?
As you looked down at the note, you felt your heart swell. You held it close to your chest, feeling as if you could burst from happiness at any moment. Your mother then looked up from her book. "What is that, dear?"
"It is nothing!" You responded quickly. Luckily, your mother did not push the issue further.
That night, you folded the note once more and placed it in the drawer of the nightstand beside your bed. As you attempted to fall asleep, all you could think of was that you could not wait to see Benedict again.

hey love! im sorry your request box hasnt been what you were looking for but maybe this will work! can i request a ball with benedict bridgerton where feelings are only realized when one of them dances with someone else? i dont really mind if its reader or benedict but i just think it would be cute!! hope you’re doing well <3 <3
hello my lovely. you're the sweetest, thank you so much for such a gorgeous request. I've got a pretty similar fic where Benedict realises his feelings, so I was super excited to do the other way around, I hope you enjoy <3 <3 | 1.5k words, fem!reader
There is a woman in Benedict’s arms and it isn’t you and you think you might throw your lemonade at her. Accidentally, of course.
You don’t know her, and if the reasonable side of your brain was in charge, you’d probably think she looks quite lovely. Her hair is adorned in elaborate braids and her smile is demure but still a little goofy - she isn’t shrouded in the fake humility that she finds so many ladies of the ton carry around with them.
But still you find yourself fantasising about a large lemonade stain painting the front of her dress, the poor girl hurrying away in her shock and distress.
Away from Benedict. Who’s now laughing. At something the girl has said, no less. Why, you’d never seen him laugh at any lady of the ton who wasn’t either his sister or, once, Lady Danbury.
And yourself, of course, but you didn’t count.
At least, you didn’t think you counted. You didn’t think you wanted to count, content to while away the balls and the promenades by Benedict’s side, sometimes Eloise’s, whispering about so-and-so’s hat or whats-his-name’s hair. He’d never asked you to dance, although you’d never wanted him to before. Now that he was dancing with someone for the first time you could recall, however, you could feel that changing very swiftly.
”You know, looking vexed in the corner isn’t likely to win you many adoring suitors, Miss Y/L/N.”
Eloise always knows just when to get on your nerves and she’s grinning at you slyly when you turn to face her, finally breaking the spell that Benedict and his new dance partner had placed on you.
”Since when have you believed that was my endeavour, dear Eloise?”
”Since you’ve spent the entire night glaring at pretty young Miss Pennyforth. It’s making you look rather jealous, to the untrained eye.”
You turn away from her, fixing your eyes on her brother yet again. They’re not talking anymore, just staring at each other as he twirls her again and again. Maybe it was better when they spoke after all, because now your stomach is twisting into something that does indeed feel a lot like jealousy.
”Yes, well, you know better than to think I’m jealous. Though I do seem to be in a foul mood.”
Eloise nods exaggeratedly, a pretend-sympathetic pout on her lips.
”Yes, you poor thing. And it obviously has nothing to do with the brother of mine that you can’t take your eyes off.”
You pointedly look at her again but she just dissolves into giggles at the look on your face.
”If you have a point, Eloise, I suggest you make it.”
”Oh, no point at all. Only that the one ball where Benedict decides not to stand with you and ruin his prospects all night, you seem to be very dour indeed. With no correlation, of course.”
You glower at her as best you can. You have the irritable feeling crawling out of your stomach through your throat that you might be about to cry, and you refuse to do so here, or to allow Eloise to think it’s her fault if you do.
”You run along and find Penelope or I shall tell your mother there’s a gentleman asking after you.”
She gaped at you, quite genuinely.
”You wouldn’t,” she murmured, but then promptly hurried away when you fixed her with a look that told her you most certainly would. It was a lie, because you could never bring yourself to do that to your friend, but it was a ruse that allowed to slip away from the ballroom.
You cast one last glance over your shoulder at Benedict to see him kissing the back of Miss Penny-something’s hand and your eyes began to sting.
- - -
There was a little bench hidden away to the left of the grand entrance, just dark enough to not be spotted by those near the carriages. You managed to shed a few tears in private, silent silly things, and you wiped them away angrily.
It was only Benedict. Quiet, mischievous, generous Benedict. He was creative and caring and could come up with the most brilliant insults you’d ever heard. Obviously, he also had a beautiful face, but you’d never given it much thought. All the Bridgertons were beautiful, it felt like a requirement.
”Did Lord Tennesby try to talk to you again?”
You sighed deeply, closing your eyes with your head bowed. Of course he’d find you. If anyone was likely to be looking for a quiet spot for a moment’s reprieve, it was him.
You wiped at your face in vain before looking up at him with what you hoped was a convincing smile.
“I’d be halfway back home if that was the case. What are you doing out here?”
Why aren’t you with Pennyfuzzy? was the unspoken second question that you couldn’t quite bring yourself to ask, knowing how spiteful it would come out. You wished you had realised you might want more from Benedict in the comfort of your own home, where you could take a week to process those feelings and prepare for how to deal with them.
Instead, you’d just have to see what happened in this conversation and go from there. Sounded promising.
”I was going to ask you the same thing. Have you…been crying?”
”I think it’s the flowers,” you point over at the hyacinths in the nearby flowerbed, “They often get the best of me this time of year.”
”Daphne’s ball last year was filled with hyacinths and you didn’t so much as sniffle.”
You frowned at him.
“I probably sniffled.”
“You didn’t. I would have noticed. I would have offered you a handkerchief like the dashing young gentleman I am.”
It was enough to pull up your frown at the corners, which in turn propelled him to take a seat beside you on the bench. You busied yourself with a crease in your dress when you talked to him.
“Maybe you’re not as dashing as you think.”
“I’m incredibly dashing,” he argued, pointing his chin upwards in that silly, mighty way you always giggled at, “I swept Miss Pennyforth off her feet just moments ago.”
Like an ice cold bucket of water poured right over you. You almost shivered.
“Ah, Miss Pennyforth. Has someone finally captured your wayward attention, Mister Bridgerton?”
You looked up at him and tried not to sniffle or snuffle or anything else that might give you away. He was just looking puzzled.
“What? No, I meant I quite literally swept her off her feet. I got the steps wrong, according to Eloise, who helped me up once she had a hold of her laughter.”
You blinked at him.
“You fell?”
“Into quite the heap. Miss Pennyforth was a good sport about it all but she did end up with a rather unfortunate lemonade stain all down the front of her dress. I think she was a little embarrassed.”
He had the decency to look a little embarrassed himself. There you had been, ready to hurl the contents of your cup at the girl and Benedict had solved your predicament for you. A twinge of guilt tugged at you.
“I’m sorry I missed it,” you said honestly, face overtaken by a wry smirk since Benedict had not sat down singing her praises. Still you had to be sure, “She was looking a very good dancer before I left, I was afraid she might steal away my conversation partner.”
It ended up sounding far more transparent in your intentions than you’d hoped. But you held his eye contact defiantly when he grinned.
“I knew you missed me,” he said, smug, “I took one look at your face and I could see it plain as day. Really, you should have hidden it better.”
“I don’t enjoy these events and you know it, Benedict.”
Back to his first name and by the light in his eyes, he’d noticed the switch. He stood up and held out his arm for you.
“I know. I’m very grateful for it. Now come along, I’ve done my duty to my mother dancing with that girl and now I would like to do my duty to myself.”
You raised an eyebrow at him, not moving a muscle.
“I would like to make fun of the Featheringtons with my most cherished friend. Would you do me the honour?”
Something skipped inside your chest. Light and airy again, no longer weighed down and chained to something churning your stomach. His most cherished friend. Despite the evening’s revelations, that sounded heavenly.
“Is Eloise inside waiting for you then?” you can’t help but tease and he promptly puts his arm back by his side with a huff.
“You are intolerable. I’m going without you.”
“No - wait!” you laughed, following after him gleefully as he turned away from you and started walking. You managed to catch him on the stairs, threading your hand into the crook of his elbow with ease as you did.
The smile he sent you would take at least the next week to contemplate but you had time. You could be a very brilliant 'most cherished friend' for now.
(and you were far more cherished than you knew, of course, but he wasn't quite ready to tell you yet)

____________________________________________________________
The greenery of the park was an enjoyable sight to see as you took a leisurely stroll by yourself on such a sunny day.
With your gaze full of the stretching grasses, towering trees, and manicured bushes, you found that you were easily lost in a serene daze.
It was only when you noticed an unexpected pop of blue amongst all the shades of green that your mind slowly came back to reality.
Squinting, you tried to make out what the pop of blue was as it fluttered in the wind on a low hanging branch.
Reaching up and pulling it between your fingers, you held the object out in front of you and saw that it was a beautiful silk ribbon.
You were about to wonder who it might belong to when the sounds of an inconsolable child reached your ears.
“No! You do not understand, Daphne! Mama will never let me have another ribbon again!”
Turning your head to see a little girl now openly crying nearby with two other people trying their best to comfort her, you cautiously began to make your way closer as the one you assumed to be Daphne spoke in a kind voice.
“Oh, I am sure that is not true, Hyacinth. Mother will be nothing but understanding if you have misplaced your ribbon.”
But the child only shook her head in fervent disagreement as her sobs continued.
Having finally neared the group of three, you tried to be as gentle as you could when you opened your mouth and said,
“Excuse me, Lovely?”
Speaking directly to the young girl, you waited till her cries had slowed into sniffles and she looked your way with brokenhearted eyes.
“I saw that this matched your dress perfectly and wondered if it might be yours?”
With a friendly smile, you held your hand out for her to see what you were holding and got to watch as her expression changed from devastated to astonished within a second.
“My ribbon!” She happily gasped with disbelief.
After hurriedly taking it from your grasp and giving it an inspection, the child looked back up to you with a bright grin on her face as she said,
“It is mine! Thank you!”
You waved a dismissive hand as you kindly responded,
“Oh, it was my pleasure, sweet one.”
Pleasantly done with your task, you were turning to walk away when you suddenly heard,
“Wait!”
Looking back, you listened as the now enthusiastic girl said,
“My name is Hyacinth! This is my sister Daphne and her husband Simon.” She said while pointing at the nearby couple.
Turning back to you, she eagerly asked,
“What is your name?”
Charmed at her genuine curiosity, you smiled as you introduced yourself.
Recognizing your married last name, the one called Simon began to speak.
“Ah, I was an acquaintance of your late husband. You have my condolences on his passing.”
You gave a customary nod of thanks while his wife proceeded to sympathetically say,
“Yes, mine as well, Duchess. I know how difficult it can be to rejoin society after a loss. If you are ever in need of a listening ear, I would be happy to fulfill that role. Especially after you found my sister’s ribbon.”
Touched at the kind offer, you were about to reply when the aforementioned sister gave a surprised gasp and looked at you with wide eyes.
“You are a Duchess?!” She incredulously asked. “Daphne is a Duchess!”
Unable to contain her sudden glee, the once crying girl started to jump in place as she asked,
“Are you in need of a husband?? My eldest brother says he is in need of a wife, and I think you would be perfect!”
While Daphne said Hyacinth’s name in reprimand, you were trying to hide your bashful and humored laughter at her childishly audacious question.
Immediately brushing off the other titled women’s attempt to apologize on her sister’s behalf, you decided to give an amused reply to the girl’s inquiry.
“Oh, is that so? And who might your eldest brother be?”
Without hesitation, Hyacinth proudly announced,
“Anthony Bridgerton! He is a Viscount!”
Without another moment’s pause, her eyes started to dart around in search of something as she excitedly said,
“He is here today! But where has he gone to?”
When her small stature failed to help in finding her brother, the Duke and Duchess of Hastings also began to look and only stopped once they noticed a sizable number of females crowding one man.
While they both smirked to themselves at what they saw, it was the Duke who inevitably explained with a touch of cheekiness,
“That is Anthony being surrounded by all the other women who want to become his wife.”
Following his gaze with your own, you had to stop yourself from freezing in place as you recognized the person he was pointing out.
Because with a thrilling flutter, you realized it was your handsome rescuer from the ball.
As you continued looking, you saw that Simon had not been exaggerating when he said the one called ‘Anthony’ was being surrounded.
There must have been at least half a dozen Mamas and their daughters trying to get the attention of this apparent bachelor.
Admittedly, you could see why.
But before you could dwell on the sight any further, Hyacinth let out an offended sound.
“But they cannot be his wife! I did not choose them!”
As you looked back at her brother clearly struggling across the way, your mind quickly came to a decision about the situation.
Giving the young girl a reassuring smile, you said with a playful seriousness,
“Then we must do something now, mustn’t we?”
Without waiting for a reply, you began to make your way toward the mob-like chaos.
You allowed yourself close enough to the fray to be heard before you politely called out over the pushy chatter of this season’s debutantes,
“Lord Bridgerton?”
All the talking ceased when Lord Bridgerton’s head turned and his eyes locked with yours.
Seeing the recognition on his face, you hoped you were not too bold as you continued by saying for the sake of your audience,
“Were we not to promenade through the park today?”
Phrasing the question so he could refuse your help if he wanted to, you saw the immediate gratitude shining in his eyes when he caught your meaning and did not.
“Yes, we were!” He happily agreed in reply.
As he started to give his regrets and apologies while smoothly extracting himself from the crowd of silently stunned ladies, he kept flicking his eyes back to yours as if to ensure you would not disappear until he was securely next to you on the sidewalk.
Wanting to put some distance between the mob still watching and himself, Anthony was only too glad to offer you his arm as he escorted you away.
Once you were safe from being overheard, Lord Bridgerton quietly admitted while keeping to a leisurely stroll,
“I did not expect to see you again.”
Given how your second meeting had come about, you could not stop yourself from giving a coy smile as you shrugged and said in response,
“You looked like you were in need of rescuing from where I was standing.”
Because you were facing forward as you both walked side by side, you did not get to see the humored smirk on Lord Bridgerton’s face as he recalled saying those exact words to you.
But you did get to listen as he replied in an amused tone.
“Merely a matter of perspective, was it not?”
Glancing toward you as he asked this question meant you each caught the other’s gaze when you happened to look his way as well.
Only being able to hold the staring contest for a few moments, you and the Viscount wound up letting out small chuckles of laughter seconds later.
After collecting yourselves, you continued to walk in a comfortable silence that was broken when Anthony decided to ask,
“So how are you?”
When you looked at him with surprise, he briefly cleared his throat and followed up with,
“It is just that I could not help but wonder how you were doing after the ball?”
Not wishing to think about that night or the drunk who ruined it, you were quick to say,
“I am fine, thank you.”
While flashing him a reassuring grin.
Somehow unconvinced, Anthony hesitated for a moment before proceeding to say,
“I also could not help but to wonder why that man was trying to attack you at all?”
Huffing a small sigh at the question, you responded with a rueful smile on your lips.
“And I am afraid you will have to continue wondering.”
Pulling away in order to face the Viscount, you switched to a more formal voice as you decided it was time for this interaction to come to a close.
“Lord Bridgerton, while you have my gratitude for what you did that night, I would say that we are currently even. So, I think it best that we go our separate ways from now on.”
With that said, you gave a polite smile as you dipped your head in goodbye and started to take your leave.
But you had only just made it past him when a bold question stopped you in your tracks.
“And if I disagreed?”
Pausing, it took a quick second for you to understand the implication of his words. But once you did, you slowly turned your head to look back at your former rescuer and saw the sincere expression of a simmering challenge.
Stuck in his gaze, your eyes mimicked a challenge of their own as you slyly replied with a smirk now on your face,
“I was unfortunately not asking for your opinion.”
And turned to continue walking away.
Anthony could only watch as your figure moved further and further into the distance before his approaching eldest sister caught his attention.
“Brother? What was all that about?”
Still in a state of complete intrigue, Anthony was honest when he responded by saying,
“I am not sure.”
As his mind began to whirl at the thought of needing to see you again in order to find out, he turned toward Daphne after being struck with a brilliant idea.
“But we are going to throw a dinner party,” He said, now smiling. “And I very much look forward to getting an answer.”

Dearest Gentle Reader,
This author is pleased to present the dashing, young Slytherins as their Bridgerton counterpart should they ever grace the ton with their presence.
Theodore Nott as Anthony Bridgerton
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
𝄞 Theodore Nott as Anthony Bridgerton would be a walking contradiction, oscillating between his responsibilities as a viscount who had to grow up too soon and a rake who refuses to grow up.
𝄞 While attending school at Oxford, he never had to worry about grades as he’s naturally intelligent and can ace his classes with little effort. He’s also generally interested in learning so he never has to force himself to study.
𝄞 This allows him more time to goof off with his classmates so they would go on countless adventures and get into all sorts of trouble. Nothing that would stick of course, given their high status in society and the privilege that comes with it.
𝄞 Given the early loss of his father, he becomes the viscount at a young age and assumes responsibility for their people and his family. It feeds into his serious and introverted side and he initially has strong opinions on Daphne’s suitors, thinking he knows what’s best for her.
𝄞 When he challenged Simon to duel, part of it would be to defend Daphne’s honor, but another part would be his subconscious tendency towards self-destruction.
𝄞 Secretly, he envies and resents his siblings for not having to bear the responsibilities he had to. Still, he cares for them and always tries his best.
𝄞 He prefers having sex with only one partner, but if he doesn’t have one, he will frequent brothels to get his urges satisfied. He never hesitates to do what he needs to do, both in business and his personal life.
𝄞 When he finally opens himself up to marriage, he initially has a strategic plan, refusing to be swept away by whimsical notions of love. All it ever brought was pain, no thank you.
𝄞 And then he met you. The woman he lost a horse race to, the woman who could best him at pall-mall and is not afraid to get her hands dirty, literally. The woman who could carry herself in a hunt. His match.
𝄞 He rarely fell in love, if at all. But when he fell, he fell utterly and hopelessly in love.
𝄞 In his words, “I have never met anyone like you. It is maddening. How much you consume my very being.” He was never one for moderation.

Mattheo Riddle as Benedict Bridgerton
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
₊✧ As an aspiring artist, Mattheo Riddle enjoys drawing and often has charcoal or ink stains on his hands, just like Benedict Bridgerton.
₊✧ He likes smoking in general and usually bonds with his sister, Eloise, through their regular smoking sessions on the swing. They confide their dreams and fears with each other.
₊✧ He is closest to Anthony, who often seeks his support as the second son.
₊✧ Once he dives into the art scene away from the prestige of the ton, behind doors closed and with curtains drawn, he is pleasantly surprised to discover the sensual side to these parties.
₊✧ He regularly attends these parties for sketching, booze, and orgies - everything his creative heart could desire.
₊✧ He is genuinely passionate about his art and hopes to get into art school of his own accord.
₊✧ He will not hesitate to turn to substances when he needs to relax, even if it means over consuming Colin’s calming tea to soothe his anxiety of getting into art school.
₊✧ He got so wasted that he found himself screaming in exultation from the windows of their quiet countryside home when he was accepted into art school.

Lorenzo Berkshire as Colin Bridgerton
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
❥ Much like Colin Bridgerton, Lorenzo Berkshire is also a free spirit who enjoys traveling and sharing stories of his adventures.
❥ Life of the party, he loves joking around with others.
❥ He is loyal to and protective of his family, always ready to support his siblings, especially his older brothers when needed.
❥ However, when he sets his sights on a goal, he is headstrong and not afraid to pursue things on his own. Whether it’s courting Marina or making investments in an attempt to find his purpose.
❥ Given his penchant to see the good in others, he can sometimes come off as naive but is open to learning from his failures.
❥ He remains a romantic idealist, but often has his head in the clouds that he overlooks your affections and only sees you as a loyal friend.
❥ Everything changes when he gets closer with you and your confidence grows the more autonomy you have with choosing your own gowns, for example. He starts to consider you less like a friend and more romantically.
❥ He better get his hands and knees ready for all the groveling he will go through to win your affections after he denied and rejected you for so long.

Why I will never ever take Bridgerton fandom or mainly any tv/film fandoms seriously especially the Bridgerton one because they genuinely like trash toxic disgusting characters like Eloise Anthony Kate Daphne but hate Marina Edwina Colin and Penelope and the only reason they like Kate is because she’s their self insert girl to be with the hot nasty white boy they fancy Anthony and the only reason they dislike Colin who’s perfect and the best man brother wnd Bridgerton in that whole show is because he’s Penelope friend and love interest it’s clear as day they whole fandom hatred for them is based on racism misogynior and fatphobia because you can’t tell me you genuinely like Daphne who’s a se*ual assaulte* (which btw people hate Alison in UA for as they should but they deem her as the devil worst most evil human ever that was kissing too but daphne does a whole SA rap*e but she don’t get the same energy Daphne don’t even get any energy about in fact she gets nothing is because what she did was towards a poc character so it don’t matter right and things only matter when poc/woc characters does anything or just breathes in the wrong direction or towards a yt character right they are
deemed satan sporn crucified fandom love to put woc/poc character on high standards then white characters who can just live life and do all mistakes without facing consequences or remotely anything even if it’s literally sexu*ul assaul* or crimes like plz be fr and don’t get me started on them like having understanding sympathing and making all the excuses in the world for daphne even tho she’s sexua* assaulte* but they hate Marina for doing what was best for her children and herself there’s absolutely no understanding no sympathy or empathy for her and the life she’s lived which was so sad and cruel in fact she’s lived the worst life but they have no understanding for her but can easily do for other characters who’s lived a spoiled happy privileged life like the Bridgertons but nothing for the poor sad heartbroken girl in that society being not just any girl but a woc and not a rich woc that is protected by love or money like say queen Charlotte duke was in that era
being great mother doing whatever for their kids which is another thing fandoms love Portia as they should bc she was doing what was best for her kids as a mother does and should always do (my queen except when she’s cruel to pen and her sister) when she said she was mother and her team was the 3 girls the fandom call her bad bitch best mom who loves her kids as they should bc it’s true and Georgia in G&G calling her girl boss bad bitch best mother and queen thingz for doing everything for her kids and herself but Marina doing the same in time in a society where people like her poor black woman with no high status or family meant nothing who’s opinion and life and gender was seen as less, for her it’s she’s the devil trapping Colin like he still didn’t want her afterwards saying it didn’t matter to him that she was pregnant with another man baby that he loved and would’ve helped her if he knew😂 she’s manipulative trapping him all the bla bla no she was doing what was right and best for her at that time and we shouldn’t applauded her for her mistakes for doing what was wrong to towards Colin or lying to him but understand her time and life and see she was very desperate have some sympathy for god sake she made a mistake she did something wrong we see it her it but so did everyone else there and y’all have understanding sympathy for them but can’t do the same for her why?
(at least she came clean and apologized and got her consequences more then I can say for any bridgerton character that’s not Colin because they all somehow never seem to get any consequences for their actions or the things they do and the people they hurt just disappear or are the ones getting hated on or they get their happy ending with a person they hurt) but when another white woman character does that same exact thing but it’s way worse it’s girl boss) and that’s why I can’t take any fandom but especially the Bridgerton fandom seriously and don’t even get me started on the unnecessary hate Penelope Colin and Edwina get all the time sure Penelope at least did something bad once or twice or thrice and I’m not excusing her but it’s not remotely close to anything those other characters or even Eloise did and Kate Anthony get nothing even tho they are literally the most evil characters in that show along with daphne, Eloise is horrible awful cruel human but she’s not a devil just mean whiny privileged spoiled narcissistic hypocritical bitc*h and anyone that likes these characters but hate on Penelope who tried everything to save herself and her friend can stfu and anyone who hates Edwina and Colin literally the best characters in the whole universe who’s never ever done anything wrong in their lives can fcvk off good too for all I care same can Penelope Polin and Marina haters!
you are not fooling anyone with your clear and obvious racism misogynior and fatphobia at all because if you genuinely was gonna hate on characters for being cruel or doing something manipulative nasty or just pure evil you would never eveeer hate or even think off hating on Colin and Edwina and you would be so understanding empathetic and feel for Penelope and Marina doing whatever they can in world where they are poor woman who aren’t rich spoiled privileged supported by their family nor Bridgerton girls and who the world don’t just open up for them with opportunity respect an kindness
And this is more then half the fandom all of them being the same one shade of nasty liking daphn kathony but hating Colin Edwina marina and Penelope be so fr real!

tbf, the "not shipping the canon het relationship is misogyny!" thing has escaped containment enough to the dumbest, most homophobic het-onlys that I've seen those people argue that for F/F pairings where there IS no competing M/M relationship, where people genuinely couldn't give less of a shit about the guy and are only in it to put the woman with someone better. Or when the M/M ship they also like is completely non-overlapping.... somehow it's somehow still misogynistic for them to prefer this completely DIFFERENT woman with her female best friend over whatever crappy guy she's with in canon whom they ship with nobody.
My friend has seen this in Bridgerton fandom, where people throw out the "but misogyny!" shit for people who prefer shipping Eloise with women, over her book-canon male love interest (who is a rapist who sucks and she ends up basically just being nanny to his kids, gee I wonder why a lot of people don't want that as the eventual fate of the character who in the show is the Outspoken Feminist). Their claim for why that's supposedly what's going on is these same people sometimes also like to ship her brother Benedict with men.... but like, the "canon" ship isn't Benedict/Eloise. Nobody ships that. They just like both of them in same-gender relationships. And in Eloise's case, it's clearly motivated by a love of Eloise as a character, a dislike of her book husband, and often also liking her relationships with other women in the show and thinking it would be interesting to ship them. What could possibly be misogyny and "pair the spares" about that....?
(Granted, the people mad about this in Bridgerton seem particularly homophobic and stupid and like, new to fanfic fandom or something. They had meltdowns about someone tagging a het ship with its ship tag when they wrote a fic with one of them Rule 63'd..... pretty sure that's standard AO3 practice to do that? The person tagged it as either M/M or F/F - whichever it was - rather than F/M, and put a tag in there about it being Genderswap/Rule 63, they were adequately warned. So there was literally no reason to complain except that you mad that you were reminded of the existence of non-het in your fandom by scrolling through the tag. The horror! Or maybe it's 2024 and especially if you're using AO3 of all fucking places, you need to get the fuck over the idea that "can gay people exist but like, not where I can see them?" is a preference it's ok and normal and non-bigoted for you to have)

Anyway I’m bored and Carmen Sandiego renaissance is on the brain. What are these characters like when they aren’t focused on the main plot?? Non VILE/ACME/Caper related dialogue seems so few and far between.. I wish we got to see their lives outside work. So I made some headcanons abt it
CARMEN
Player was her first exposure to the outside world so she probably holds a lot of his nerdy interests close to her heart. She’s not the best at video games but plays them regardless. She especially enjoys sci-fi horror movies from the 80s that go big on practical effects
Finding random trivia about different countries is genuinely one of her favourite hobbies. The little info segments she does are not part of the edutainment show. She is genuinely just like that. This woman is a trove of fun facts please let her unleash them upon you
In the same vein she LOVES quizzes. After missions she will drag Team Red to any bar doing a trivia night in her vicinity and will wipe the floor with everyone there. Fear her
Enjoys people watching. It’s why she’s so good at charming strangers despite her socially stunted upbringing. She’ll sit alone in a busy train station for hours and watch everyone pass her by
PLAYER
Look. We know this kid is a nerd. It’s canon. But which niche of nerdiness does he fall into exactly?
Despite being an avid gamer he isn’t very competitive about it. He prefers single player rpgs, especially ones with active modding scenes. He doesn’t even know what vanilla Skyrim looks like he probably wasn’t even born yet when it released
He will, however, duo queue with Carmen on unranked Overwatch. They are both terrible at it and think it’s the funniest shit
Enjoys sitting back and watching a good speedrun. Will have a video of someone doing a stupid BOTW challenge in the background while he hacks security cameras and such
Runs a DnD campaign for Team Red which they’re all crazy invested in. Shadowsan is the only one who doesn’t care for it but he keeps rolling nat 20’s on the dumbest shit and derailing the campaign and he finds everyone’s reactions too entertaining to stop. They have a rivalry only a DM and a stupidly lucky rogue could have
ZACK
We already know he’s kind of a meathead that enjoys sports and cars and cheesy action movies but I also think he has a lot of softer hobbies that he keeps to himself bc he knows they won’t take him seriously
He’s a secret crocheter. He’ll mend the team’s clothes when they rip but that’s the extent of their knowledge. He’ll sit for hours by himself and knit while listening to music. Sometimes Shadowsan will find a new pair of socks in his bag. When Carmen got sick once she woke up with a handmade blanket draped over her. Ivy has her suspicions but doesn’t wanna intrude
He loves animals. He never really brings it up because no one ever asks. He always checks out local zoos and aquariums if he has the chance. Grew up watching Steve Irwin-esque nature shows and still does to this day
His love of eating is less out of greed and more his own form of cultural appreciation. Idk what happened to his and Ivy’s parents but for reasons he can’t explain their cooking is one of the few things he hasn’t forgotten, so he has a lot of sentimental food-based memories. And experiencing other countries cuisine connects him with that
IVY
PERIOD DRAMAS. They don’t have to be good they just have to be steamy. She enjoys the hot women in pretty dresses. She and Carmen watch Bridgerton together and laugh about how historically inaccurate it is
She LOVES renfaires and similar high fantasy roleplaying communities. Someone please buy this woman a suit of armour
As an engineering prodigy AND fantasy buff she has a massive interest in Blacksmithing and Swords. That’s her designated lesbian hobby. She’s been trying to politely worm her way into a conversation with Shadowsan about the blade he returned to his brother for months now but isn’t sure if it’s too personal of a topic for him so she’s nervous
Her sweet tooth encompasses more than just chocolate. She’s secretly grateful to Zack since he takes most of the flack for being a glutton. She makes note of any bakeries they pass by on capers so she can come back later in secret and go ham on the pastries
SHADOWSAN
I think his interest in Samurai history starts and ends with his love for Hideo. He’ll happily discuss it and he’s studied it passionately, but out of a sense of respect and duty to do right by the brother he betrayed
He will NEVER, EVER admit it to anyone but he genuinely misses the adrenaline rush from committing petty crimes. He was a criminal for over 20 years. Lifestyles are hard to shake and change isn’t linear. He’d never succumb to impulse but he’s just kinda bored
He microdoses on the urge by pranking people. Everyone always blames Zack so he never gets caught. He also enjoys sneaking up on people and making them jump. He’ll always insist it’s unintentional. It isn’t
He’ll read and meditate and train to keep himself centred but he’s still a rowdy young punk at heart. Team Red is the first taste of freedom he’s had after a lifetime of VILE faculty monitoring him. The first thing he bought for himself after settling in at the San Diego HQ was a motorbike. The second was a new tattoo. The third was a potentially lethal amount of whiskey that he drank in one sitting
JULIA
We know she has a passion for history outside her work in Law Enforcement so she definitely goes to all kinds of museums in her free time. She’s the kind of person who enjoys learning just for the sake of learning (she and Carmen have that in common)
Outside of that she’s surprisingly good at karaoke? She gets stage fright but really likes singing and will go all out if you hype her up. Her taste in music is the exact opposite of her appearance and personality. Lots and lots of death metal
An aficionado for different types of tea. She keeps like 10 flavours in her house at all times. She especially likes floral ones that taste light and sweet. She hates iced tea with a passion though
Goes to botanical gardens whenever the weather is warm and the season is right. She likes the history of the old manor houses but she also loves admiring the landscaping and the blooming flowers. She could sit on a bench surrounded by local flora and fauna for hours
DEVINEAUX
Chase is an entirely different person when he’s off the clock. The unhinged high-energy maniac who froths at the mouth about La Femme Rouge goes dormant once he gets home. Especially after he got stranded on VILE island. That really gave him some introspection about work/life balance
The biggest, softest, sappiest hopeless romantic you will ever meet in your life. Passion is just part of his nature and he gets his heart broken A LOT. It’s why he throws himself into his work
He’s a really good chef. Like REALLY good. Before he was a cop he did a few summers as a line cook in his teen years and he retained most of the knowledge. His pantry is STACKED and he tries out recipes he picked up from his ACME travels in his free time. He’s a tad snobby about it because he’s French but you will not complain about the stuff he feeds you
Old movie enjoyer. His favourites are film noirs, cheesy romances, creepy eastern european animation and german expressionism. He has a fervent hatred of Marvel
Also one of those insane people who get up at 5am to do cardio. One morning before a mission he met Agent Zari with barely a glisten of sweat on his forehead and sadly informed her that he only got to run 15k and he wished he had time to do more. That was the first time she ever knew fear

hi! congrats on 7k!! i wanted to submit a request for a benedict bridgerton fic with the prompt: “you're pretty amazing. you know that, right?” from the sacred romantic moments list. maybe with him in a moment where he realizes he’s falling in love with reader? thank you!
Always You // Benedict Bridgerton
A/n: thank you for requesting, I’m so sorry it has taken so long for me to write it and I’m sorry it isn’t longer.
Warnings: fluff, feelings, cute, Benedict realises he is in love with the reader.
Word count: 100+
Tumblr media
To say Benedict Bridgerton was surprised to find himself in love with you would be an understatement. Rather, he was inclined to agree with the greats - it hit him like a lightning bolt. The realisation taking over him sudddenly, leaving him close to breathless and dizzy.
All this time. All this time he had been searching for his love match, desperate to have even an inkling of what his elder brother shared with his wife. Attending luncheon after luncheon, ball after ball in the hopes he would clap eyes on the person to whom he would promise his forever.
Instead, his forever had been in front of him the whole time.
“You’re pretty amazing. You know that, right?” The words leave his lips before he can acknowledge them but before even an ounce of regret can settle upon his shoulders, Benedict is rewarded with your smile.
“And what if I was to tell you I didn’t know I was amazing. What would you do then?” You reply from your seat across the table from the Bridgerton. Your tea remains undisturbed as you meet Benedict’s gaze; the long-standing friendship between you always fraught with the urge to become something more.
Benedict only just realises the change in your voice - teasing with an undercurrent of flirtatiousness - as he replies. “Then I would have to list the ways in which you are.”
His offer hangs in the air; the words charged with knowledge that the both of you teeter on the edge of something else, something more. It’s been crafted in a way that leaves the decision up to you; it is your choice whether you take this one step further and hear the ways in which the blue eyed Bridgerton admires you. The temptation becomes too much to bare. A heavy sigh drops from your lips as you swoon dramatically. “Then I’m afraid you’re going to have to list them for I simply cannot tell you whether I am amazing or simply too much to put up with.”
Benedict laughs indulgently; the sound rich and luscious, brightening the room and the atmosphere. “Are you sitting comfortably?” At your nod, he continues, “Then we’ll begin.”
Benedict holds up his index finger. “Firstly, you are amazing in the way you see the best in people. Why, I’ve even seen you draw a genuine smile from Lady Featherington once or twice.”
A second finger joins the first. “Secondly, you are amazing in the way you handle each member of my family. From Colin’s spontaneity to Eloise’s need to further herself. You handle each with grace by being an ear for them for when they need it.”
Benedict rises from his seat, fixing the rumple in his jacket before lifting a third and final finger. “And last of all, you are truly amazing for loving me just as wholly as I love you,” Benedict finishes, hope burning bright in his blue eyes as he kneels before you. “Am I correct?” He teases, a boyish smile lighting up his face as his heart pounds a thousand miles a minute as he desperately wants to know whether you love him just the same.
“Yes,” You sigh, a loving and fond smile turning up your lips. “I happen to be that amazing.”

BETTER OFF PT 2
Anthony Bridgerton x reader (enemies to lovers)
A/n: Part 2 !! This is mostly for @jessyballet and @alldaysdreamers for requesting this to be a series. Yes I see the comments. The first part got 200+ interactions and a whole lotta love so who am I to not give the audience what they want? Enjoy!
Summary: Anthony Bridgerton married you out of convenience and duty, hoping to suppress your outward personality over time. His efforts are in vain and getting worse as he begins feeling something more for you. Perhaps you are begging to feel it as well.
Word count: 1504
Warnings: mention of loss of virginity, angst, period typical misogyny, uncomfortable sex
Tumblr media
The day started as every other. You had stopped reaching over in search of your husband’s figure only a week after your first night together. Your mother had passed when you were young and it left you with no knowledge of how the evening would go. You hated being kept in the dark especially when it came to the man you were about to marry. Despite how unconventional and improper it was, you went to the only mother figure you had. At the time you and The Viscount’s mother had become quite close. Her kindness and genuine care made you like her instantly. You were left to wonder how such a wonderful woman had such an awful man for a son. You begrudgingly and shyly asked Violet what to expect on your wedding night. The poor woman flushed and stuttered out words as best she could. After all, she had done it once with Daphne (with a similar reaction) and did not expect to do so again so soon. Eloise’s season was well underway but the dowager did not expect her headstrong and rebellious daughter to marry during her debut season as you did. “There is a certain technique.” She had said. “A man and woman must.. connect at their core.” You let her go at that point, not wanting her face to get anymore red than it was.
She could not have been more right. Though shreds of pleasure shot through you, your husband was unreasonably quick. An action you for a moment though would improve the experience. He had entered you slowly and seemed to start at a gentle pace, once you stretched to his length he did ‘duty as a husband’. He told you as much the next day when you’d went into his office. The whole ordeal left you feeling used. He made you feel as though nothing more than a vessel for bearing children. Days after that, he entered the room you both supposedly shared with a declaration. “As a Viscount, it is my duty to produce an heir for the bridgerton line.” His lips in a thin line as he began. “You very well know the process of that. We will need to perform this at least a few times over the course of months.”
Here you were months later, unhappy and alone. It wasn’t too early in the morning, in fact it was almost time for breakfast. You located your robe and wrapped it around your curved body, slipping on a pair of house shoes before heading to the dining hall. As always, Violet was the first at the table, sipping her tea quietly. “Good morning,” you croaked. The woman smiled softly at you. “Good morning my dear. How was your sleep.” You took the seat next to her, beginning to pour own tea. “Oh, the same as every night I suppose. Fine.” You stated as you stirred sugar into the tea. You felt her disappointed look on you. There was a rift between your husband and his mother because of you and you hated it. It was why you still spoke so highly about him to her despite last night’s argument in the carriage.
As if on cue, Benedict sauntered in shortly followed by Eloise and later Gregory and Hyacinth. The six of you engaged in light conversation while you ate. It simply had to be riveting because you did not notice The Viscount approach. “Brother!” Squealed Hyacinth and you turned your back to face him. “Busy morning, husband?”
“Quite. What’s for breakfast?”
“Oh, well—“
“So sorry to interrupt,” entered a servant by the name of Sophia. She made her way to you with a letter clutched in her hands. “A letter. For you, Viscountess.” You held her shaking hands in your own and took the letter gently. The Viscount watched as you easily calmed the girls nerves, only showing her kindness and understanding. He could not fathom why he could not remove his eyes from you. She gave you a thankful smile and you returned it twice fold. “Thank you, Sophia. You may go.” With that, she nodded to you and left as you broke the wax seal belonging to your family. “Well?” Gergory spoke up. He hadn’t even finished his plate. Reading over the parchment, your eyebrows rose. “Please do not tell us it is bad news.” Eloise said, slump in her chair. “No,” you reply. “Nothing of that sort. My father is coming to visit.”
To say the least your relationship with your father was as good as it could have been. He was of course a changed man after the death of your mother and he only jumped at the opportunity of you marrying a Viscount as means to your safe and secure future. He wanted what was best for you only…. he had a habit of pushing too hard. “How wonderful!” Violet beamed. “A guest.” Benedict’s eyes widened in realization. “He’ll come with us to the races then?” His brother scoffed at the question. “Of course he will.”
Right on time the next day your fathers carriage stopped in front of Brigerton house with crates of his things. “My girl!” He called out in his deep voice as he saw you. He seemed surprised which didn’t go unnoticed by you. “Hello father.” The two of you embraced and he pulled away to get a better look at you. “My daughter a Viscountess, I still do not believe it at times.” Your husband trailed after you. “And I sometimes cannot believe she has chosen to be my viscountess.” He said in a mock loving tone. You tried to keep your smile. “Ah, Lord Bridgerton.” Your husband nodded to the man. “Welcome, we’ve already prepared your room.” Your father slid his arm around yours as you climbed the stairs and entered the house. “You are happy, aren’t you, Y/N?” The question felt like a loaded one. You certainly could not tell him of how your marriage was going thus far. We’re you truly going to lie to your father? “Very much,” you heard yourself say. “The Viscount makes me very happy.”
The next few days passed in a blur. The races were tomorrow and you’d told Violet you would take Eloise and Hyacinth along with you to the modiste to get new dresses. You had just left the library. You’d been in there all morning scribbling away in a notebook only Benedict knew about. One filled with poetry. As of now, it reflected your loneliness, longing, regret and guilt. One more thing your husband did not know about you. “Ah, Y/N.” Your father called down the hall, his eyes inspecting you as he approached. “How are you feeling, daughter?” You raised a curious brow. “Perfectly fine.” A slight frown slipped onto his face. “I thought it would have happened by now.” He barely whispered. “What exactly did you think would happen?”
“My child, you have been married for months and still you are not with child.” Your breath caught in your throat. You tried not to take his words to heart. “I’m trying, Papa. We are trying.” Those words seemed like nothing and just as before your husband reared the corner. No sound for you to detect him. “You must know how it looks. The embarrassment.”
“Father!”
“You know your duties. Just try a bit harder.”
It took all the strength in you not to let tears fall. You fought them brutally. “Yes, of course. I will try harder.” Your father smiled and continued on his way. As did you, letting a few tears fall, thinking you were alone. “Y/N?” Called the voice of your husband from around the corner. “My Lord? You are not-“
“In my office? Yes, it appears I am not.” You shook your head, willing the tears to stop falling. “Are you alright?” He walked towards you, with what you considered false concern on his features. “Do not pretend to care.” You voice cracked as you spoke. The man frowned. “Perhaps I can?”
“Perhaps you can what? Ignore me like you do every day? Stay in your office all day into the night hours?? Stay awake so late you do not join me in or bed and awake so early that I do not have the opportunity to greet the man I married?” You snapped, tired of holding in your emotions today. “Do not waste your time on me, my lord. I know my duty as you yours.” You wiped your eyes free of tears before straightening out your dress and clearing your throat. “I must get Eloise and Hyacinth. The races are tomorrow, we shall all need new dresses.” You left your husband standing there with the same feeling he experienced at breakfast some days ago. A feeling he could not name. Only this time, it stung him. He stood for a few moments before continuing to his office where he picked up a bottle of brandy and poured himself a glass. What was happening?

MAKING A CASE FOR GREGORY TO BE EVERYONE'S FAVOURITE BRIDGERTON.
(Jk, this is just an excuse, like who you want)
Is he my favourite?
Yes.
Why?
Tumblr media
Well......
1. He wants love.
From the start of the book, we are made aware that he has nothing going on and genuinely wants to find love like his siblings.
2. Friends over food.
The way he meets Lucy is him falling in love with Hermonie Watson(👀) and asking Lucy to dance. She pities him enough to carry him to eat because he showed up late and had to go mingle. Basically, they become acquaintances and friends once they decide to set up Gregory with Hermonie.
3. Bro is in love with Kate.
One of the funnier themes in the book is that he goes from saying something he loves about Kate and then compares it to something Lucy does.
4. Alcohol.
He keeps stealing and drinking Anthony's alcohol.
5. Fist fights.
He fights Lucy's brother, Richard, after compromising Hermonie (deserved, earned).
6. The first time they kiss.
I kid you not, I was in shock, tears almost and the energy after this moment never changes. Like genuinely at any point they would've been wed to each other had one person saw them but what makes if crazier is that the only reason it stopped was because Lucy was engaged and she remembered before it escalated
7. Making it everyone's problem.
After he realises he loves her, he makes it everyone's problem. From comparing her to Francesca to embarrassing Violet publicly , even roping Hyacinth in on hijinks, his story is a family event.
8. The Second time they kiss.
Hyacinth is in the other room, they are in Daphne's home and he has orchestrated a plan to propose to her in a closet.
9. They sleep with each other.
To the TSPWL and WHWW girls, step aside for a moment. Gregory breaks into his unofficial fiancé's home in the dead of night, goes to her room, and is eventually seduced by her. They proceed to sleep together, THE DAY BEFORE HER WEDDING TO ANOTHER MAN. They do so three times holding each other, then sleeping together and so on. She's doing it under false pretences because she isn't going to marry him atp.
10. A love like Violet and Edmund's.
They break the Bridgerton record for most kids. At the time of the epilogue, they have 7 kids and are expecting the 8th, they have twins and end up with 9. It's to the point where the pregnancy impacts Lucy and Gregory let's us know that the amount of kids they have is genuinely due to their lack of restraint.

11. They name their kids after their siblings.
Lucy actually gets to name one after her best friend, but there is a little Daphne and Anthony running around. Also a Kate.
12. Guns.
There is a gun stand off.
13. Kidnapping.
Gregory breaks the law, again.
14. Gay.
Lucy is pinning over Hermione during the first half, her fiance is gay, the uncle never marries......
15. 9 CHILDREN.
I don't want to understate the fact that they have 9 kids in less than 20 years. It was never that serious. She is 33 when they have their last kid. He's 39. They met at 18 and 24 respectively. 9 kids in 15 years.

16. LUCY MY LOVE
Me 🫂 Gregory.
She's darling. Throughout the narrative, it's just her making sacrifices for everyone she loves. For her brother, her best friend, even Gregory, it's consistantly her trying.
17. Blue Mushroom.
Please read the book because Drunk Greg>>>
18. Last one.
My baby boy is a horrible shot.
Let me end it on a mood board for my faves.
We do be on the way to a wedding. It certainly was a journey

Hey could I get something where the reader is Anthony best friend but Benedict is in love with her and a bit jealous/insecure
A/N: This is an interesting request, anon! Thanks for the request though!
Portrait
Summary: Benedict doesn't know how to tell his brother's best friend he's in love with her So he doesn't. He draws instead
Tumblr media
Warnings: A HINT of Angst but most fluffy fluff!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"If you scowl long enough, you'll get wrinkles before you should, dear brother,"
Benedict and looked over at Eloise, seeing her smirk at him with her book tucked under her arm. He was about to start as rebutual at her when he heard a chorus of laughter in front of him. Both Benedict and Eloise looked, seeing you and Anthony laughing together with massive grins and relaxed shoulders. Even the way that Anthony was leaning against you and you were trying not to snort from a joke he told you made Benedict sigh.
And inwardly jealous.
He had feelings for you for years, ever since you came out at the beginning of the Season and caught some of the attention of the other bachelors that were in attendance. Of course, she did catch Benedict's eye when she walked in on her older brother's arm. The way you hair shined under the chandelier, the softness of your skin in contrast to your dark green dress that your mother picked out for the evening, it made his heart stop for a moment as you saw him and timidly wave.
Up till that point, you were simply a family friend. Your mothers knew each other since they were young, you grew up together and you played together since you could walk. You were younger than Anthony but older than Benedict, the three of you played plenty together as children but you were a bit closer to Anthony as you got older. Perhaps it was the vigor of life that Anthony had, the spur of adventure that he always craved as the eldest of his family clan that drew you in, but as the years came and went, Benedict wondered if he would ever bury his feelings for you.
If it was possible that is.
"Have you told her your feelings?" Eloise had to ask, Benedict snorted as you were calming yourself down from the random laughing tangent, "Ones does not know the intentions of another if they don't say anything,"
"What would she say?" Benedict asked in a shrug, seeing the lightness in your eyes and the freckles along your nose and cheeks making you look like you were glowing, "I'm not as cunning or as adventurous as Anthony,"
He hated comparing himself to his older brother. Anthony already had enough on his plate as the Viscount, and although that pressure lessened a bit since he married Kate and they've been blissfully happy as a married couple, he still felt like he had to jump through some hoops in order to be at the same caliber as the head of the Bridgerton family. Sure, he was more rambunctious and a bit on the aloof side. But Benedict still had a heart, and it always went tender when you were in the room.
"Cunning and a thirst for adventure may be lacking, but you strive in ambition and sympathy," Eloise reasoned with Benedict as he looked away from you again at his young sister, whom gave him a genuine smile was no longer snarky, "Ambition and Sympathy, in my option as a female, are far more valued attributes that a woman tries to seek in a male companion ,"
"Says the sister who would prefer to have her nose in a book," Benedict cooly replied, in which Eloise rolled her eyes.
"Well then, if you don't wish to proclaim your love to her with words," Eloise paused, then gesturing to your clasp hands in front of you, "Use your skill,"
Benedict was about to ask her what she meant when Eloise walked away, over to yourself and Anthony. Both yourself nag Anthony greeted her, and your eyes flickered over to Benedict for a small moment. Benedict gave a small glance, a smile on his face as you beamed at him and nodded once. He then knew what Eloise meant, and an idea popped into his head. Ambitious, yes. Daring, possibility. Social Suicide, mostly like.
But he's going to try in the best way he can.
Tumblr media
"Good evening, Benedict," You perked up from hearing Benedict walk into the room. You were reading a new novel that Eloise shared with you, Kate reading next to you as the cool spring rain was about to come into the area, bringing in the fresh scent of upcoming rain from the open window. He bowed to the pair of you, in which you both nodded in acknowledgement, "I take it you wish to read with us?"
"It does sound rather tempting given the upcoming weather," Benedict hummed to Kate as the three of you looked out the window.
"I heard you and the other gentlemen were going to go hunting," You said to him, "I'm sorry you couldn't go,"
"Nonsense, there will be time to hunt later on as the season get better, " Benedict reassured you, "I actually wish to speak to you in private, if that's alright?"
You were silent, nodding your head with a small smile as Kate merely grinned and closed her book, "I'm in need of some tea any who. I suppose my husband is in the study?"
Benedict nodded his head, Kate grinning as she squeezed his arm before she walked out of the parlor. It left the pair of you there in the room, alone. He was still standing in front of you, almost looking rather nervous and uneasy with you giving him your full attention. He took in a shaky breath, having you look at him in worry. "Are you alright, Benedict?" You asked, placing your own book on the loveseat next to you as you folded your hands in your lap. Benedict nodded his head, trying to collect myself as you grinned, "I have never seen you frazzled in this nature before."
"I have something to show you, and I wish to only think that it'll get positive praise when I show you what....what I drew," Benedict explained, making your smile grow,
"I always love what you draw, Benedict," You reassured him, which was true. You loved how he drew and how he expressed himself in his art. Benedict would show you constantly what he worked on, whether it was a sketched or a full canvas piece. You saw the raw talent he had, that pure talent that you knew was rare. So Benedict took out a folded paper, that seemed perfectly folded and the creases were minimal. Being patient, you watched as he was thinking to himself for a long moment before he finally sat down on the spare spot in the loveseat. Once he was seat, he placed the paper in your hand, almost inwardly regretting his actions as he was unfolding the paper with ease.
Once you saw what was there on the surface, you gasped.
It was a beautiful silhouette of a woman, the delicate and gorgeous lines that moved along the shoulders and in the loose waves of the hair was entrancing. Your eyes scanned over the face, seeing the dip in the nose and the roundness of the cheeks, as well as the smooth lips and small yet contained chin. It took you a moment, a long moment with Benedict watching in anticipation, to realize who it was that he drew.
He drew you.
"I'm not one with words," He explained, almost sounding unsure with the way your eyes were bright on the paper and your smile seemed so genuine and so kind, "Especially with how I feel and how I wish to express it. But I have been told that art is another way of expressing one self, and I wish to show you....if I may be bold enough to share and tell you....how I feel about you,"
"Oh, Benedict," You said in a shock, reaching with your spare hand to touch the paper with your fingers to feel if this was real. You could see it in the picture alone, the long hours of dedication and discipline that he had to work though in order to make this look beyond perfect. You have seen plenty of his work and thought of it was genius and original. Not one bad piece of art was bad in your opinion.
But this, is was beyond words.
"I have found myself having feelings for you for some time," He explained as you were feeling your heart swell and your fingers tingling from hearing his proclamation to you, "We have known each other since we were children, and my adoration for you as only grown throughout the fast few years. I've never found the proper way to tell you, and I feared for a moment that I lost that because of Anthony,"
"Anthony?" You asked him, looking at him with a concern look as he gave you a sheepish gaze, "Benedict, I only ever saw him as a friend. And I happen to like his wife nowadays,"
Benedict grinned as you joked with him, "I know that, and perhaps I was blinded my own emotions towards you to realize that. But I feel as though I can only show you what i see when you come into the room, and how seeing you with your smile and hearing your laugh makes my own heart feel more--"
You silence him with a kiss.
It was instant, the spark deep within your chest you never thought you would have with another was now evident and felt all over your skin as Benedict was shocked from your kiss. But ti took him a solid second before he reached up to frame your face with his artistic fingers. You leaned into him, the pair of your acting as if you were no longer fighting those feelings that felt deep rooted any longer.
You weren't.
He had no idea you were just a smitten with him. That you thought his smile along was enough to hang the stars in the sky at night. That his boyish nature and charm was infectious and made your own heart stumble a bit. That his passion for art was inspiring and enchanting to witness as a spectator. He had no clue you confided in Anthony in how to approach Benedict, to tell him how you felt.
"My brother is a kind soul, but he is a bit daft at times," Anthony said to you once when you two were talking together, you listening on wrapped attention as Anthony went on, "It's better to act on your feelings then say it,"
"Wont that be too bold?" You asked sheepishly, Anthony shrugged.
"We Bridgertons are known to be bold," He replied.
Once you pulled away from Benedict, whom seemed to be chasing after your lips with a lot of fondness on his face, you could see that you made the right choice after all. The look of shock and loved mixed together was etched all over his face and in his eyes. It was the rarest look that you never saw on him before, and all from a kiss.
"That was bold of me," You said in a gasp, though there was no remorse on his face.
"On the contrary, it was perfect," He replied smoothly back at you, making you blush madly and try to hide your face with a hint of embarrassment. But Benedict's hands were still framing your face, keeping your stare on him as he peered into your eyes once more, "We're both at fault in not knowing express our feelings,"
"Agreed," You replied, "Though, we did it on our own terms,"
"Agreed," He hummed, then peering at your lips against briefly as you grinned, "May I be bold as to kiss you again?"
"You don't have to ask," You replied. You both kissed again, too consumed with one another and the new love that is blossoming as the drawing of your silhouette glided to the floor near your feet.
Benedict was more engrossed with the living masterpiece in his arms. Finally.

How do you think the 9 year old Crane twins would handle finding out Phillip is not their Biological Father on the show?
Do you think it will be revealed on the show?
I honestly don't know. I mean it IS Bridgerton. they could chose to draw it out for drama purposes.
I think it would be an interesting plot point for the show to bring up, because not only do the kids deserve to know but show Phillip particularly, seems very attached to the memory of his brother. And he would feel like, not telling them the truth would be to deny George. Especially if Marina leaves it up to him whether the children know or not (ie: if she dies without telling them). So they most likely will be told the truth, probably after Eloise and Phillip have that heart to heart where she questions if he ever loved Marina and he explains all the complicated feelings he felt towards her.
And I think that the children could very well not understand. Because in the show at least, Phillip's involvement in their life, IS that of a benevolent uncle, more than an involved father. And they could misinterpret his actions as such of someone who never wanted to be their real dad and be very sad and angry about it. But that would also give the perfect opportunity for Eloise to help, by drawing a comparison to her brother Anthony, explaining that Phillip may never be their father, but he will always try his best as a father figure. And he will always love them sincerely.
I would love this scene to serve as a bridge between not only the twins and Phillip, realizing that parental relationships can be more than blood, but also that moment where Eloise realizes that all this time she's been unnecessarily hard on Anthony, because out of all the Bridgerton siblings, I really like that scene in the books where Anthony admits that he knows it's not fair, because he also had to be her father when all he wanted was to be her brother.
In the show this could be a nice parallel for Eloise and Anthony to come to terms with how their relationship was a bit distant because Eloise resented him for acting like her dad.
And I like how it could come full circle with the twins eventually understanding that even tho they're not Phillip's biological children, he still loves them with all his heart, because they are the last piece he has of his brother. And Even tho nothing can replace George and Marina. Phillip will always be there for them. Cue Eloise volunteering to be there for them too.
And I don't know maybe the show won't touch the subject, which I doubt because there's drama there. But if they don't touch the subject the twins will still grow up thinking Phillip is their biological dad. But I feel like this would only happen if Marina made him promise not to reveal the truth before she died. And show Marina genuinely loved George too much to do that.
But yeah that's the tea

First of all, someone tell Jensen to check his connection before doing phone interviews, the audio is TERRIBLE and cuts out repeatedly throughout the convo. But also, someone please get this man some media training. Everytime I listen to an interview he gives I cringe so much throughout. I mean, I get that its TB and I personally don't have an issue with swearing (I do it myself way too much lol), but maybe don't in a professional interview. Also, stop putting down other shows/people to prop yourself up dude, it looks petty (Bridgerton dig).
Or maybe watch your own show because that Homelander vs SB question where he thinks they are pretty evenly matched and even the interviewer gives SB the edge (he seems like a JA fanboy tbh) but the show SHOWED US that SB wasn't actually all that tough. All the "big fights" felt... meh. SB might be volatile but if you knew his triggers he seemed annoying but not the worst to maintain/contain - literally give him some drugs and grannies and you don't have to even think about him.
Plus saying that he started to do research for his character but immediately stopped and just did his own thing for PTSD is not the serve he thinks it is. He claims he didn't want to portray someone else's PTSD so he stopped researching but if he has no experience then "doing his own thing" isn't really a good plan and honestly, the PTSD stuff he did felt... I don't know, not genuine? And not to make it a J vs J thing but we know Jared did extensive research on PTSD for Sam and worked tiny little moments in that felt very natural and subtle (notoriously his flinches at loud noises, esp when it loud noises from his brother's anger - throwing chairs, knocking things off tables etc). I know AA's always praise Jensen for his microexpressions and subtlety with acting but I find him to be mostly histrionic and he rarely does subtlety, you can see his "subtle" from a mile away. It's like he's always trying to be larger than life and it comes across as over-acting.
Link. *Me seeing it's 25 minutes long* Sigh, push play. Yeah the audio wasn't the best and listening him talk about SB's depth and I'm going "where?".
Okay, here is the PTSD part and the interviewer even referenced Dean's PTSD. Eh, didn't want to mirror another's PTSD? To quote the great Meryl Streep, you can't be an effective actor if you're not curious about people and events. When you're interested in things, you want to go deeper and you want to know more. You do the homework so that you are well prepared, which gives you the freedom to explore any avenue on the day of the filming.
I wonder if he done the character work for SB, like writing his character biography that is not outlined in the script, like what's his favorite color, does he have a sister, what's his secret, etc.  It’s one of the techniques actors are taught to fully embody their characters and know them backward and forward to help lay the groundwork for developing a strong, believable character.
And here's the prank question because of course these always get asked. Remember kids, 90% of the prank stories are fake news.
Now the Solider Boy vs Homelander question. Interviewer thinks SB has the edge? Oh come on! Starlight was able to push SB away with a booooiiiiiiinnnnnnggggg sound effect. SB actually wasn't a solider, he mostly showed up for the photo ops after the fighting is done. SB can’t fly, isn’t fast, can’t jump that high, doesn’t have laser eyes, out of touch with technology, and he’s fairly predictable.  He should be far easier to defeat than Homelander. If you just keep Russian music away from Soldier Boy and and give him a couple of grannies and drugs, he’s content and containable. Homelander can only be contained by the tender hug of Jesus Christ. The only reason why everybody suddenly decided he's worse than Homelander and turned against SB was because he's not the main character.
To be fair, TV acting is often described as “lightly exaggerating”. For that reason I appreciated the more nuanced approach Jared took with Sam while still going above and beyond what the basic expectations are for Sam because he’s alert and always responding to what’s going around him, so he’s always changing and adapting but in more subtle ways. Jensen needs a compelling scene partner to bring out his best because his acting strength is he puts his focus on the other person.  This way Jensen doesn’t have to worry about how he’s going to say his lines and speak intuitively, this helps make his portrayal of Dean Winchester appear truthful to the audience. Jensen doesn’t go into a scene looking to do a scene, he goes in looking to be open and give over to how the other person makes him feel. That's why the only two times Jensen really shined as Solider Boy was when he confronted Crimson Countess over her betrayal, and telling Homelander what a disappointment he is. My endless complaint is SB was criminally underused on the show.

“Josephine”
“My Lord”
“Exposed yourself in front of any elderly ladies tonight?”
“Not yet. Talked dirty to our mother-in-law today?”
“I try to only do that once a quarter, so no…”
Drinks before Sharma family dinners are quite fun
Okay but imagine this: Josie and Anthony went to secondary school together.
And Josie found it frankly a little annoying. Anthony Bridgerton was, unbeknownst to him, Josie’s absolute nemesis. He was the golden boy. Everyone loved him, teachers and students and he always seemed to do just a little better than Josie and he dated the girl Josie had a crush on and she just felt so inadequate compared to him and her head nearly fucking explodes, when Edwina nudges her with her nose against her cheek one night when they’re curled up together.
“Wanna hear something funny?”
“What’s that?”
“Kate has a fucking viscount who keeps coming in to get tattooed, clearly so he can flirt with her, and she’s really into it.”
And Josie barely thinks about it. Because what would be the chances of- “A viscount? Jesus I wouldn’t have thought that was Kate’s thing.”
“Apparently he’s a stern Daddy. A phrase which, having had to repeat it makes me want to die. But the best part is: It’s Benedict’s Brother. And she has no idea. She and Sophie could be dating brothers and they haven’t worked it-”
“Not fucking Anthony Bridgerton.” Josie can’t help but groan.
And good lord, when she sees him there, sitting at the table of the restaurant with his arm over Kate’s shoulder smiling charmingly his eyes growing wide “Josie Bagwell?! Holy shit!”
“Hey, Anthony. Small world hey?”
“Getting smaller apparently.” She turned to Kate, “Josie and I went to school together. Insane!”
And God damn it. Josie wanted to hate him, but Anthony Bridgerton looks at Kate (genuinely one of Josie’s Favourite people) like she hung the moon in the sky and it makes it really hard to hate him.
Doesn’t mean she can’t tease him about the fact he nearly had phone sex with the woman she both knows they intend to make their mother in law.
