I made a skirt for my girlfriend a week ago and forgot to share! She loves how it turned out!

It's a classic gathered skirt with two pockets. One pocket is the opening with a button closure. Hook and eyes added for support and to keep the waistband in place. As always, I struggled most with the waistband. My stitches are visible, and I will have to deal with it.

My favorite detail is the little heart button!! ❤️

Me: Hey, I finished that dress I've been planning to make since last May.

My mother, silently grateful my first summer dress of the year is not covered in manic cartoon animals: Oh that looks lovely... Though don't you think you put a bit much fabric into your skirt? You could have used half and had enough left for a second dress.

Me: It's more comfortable this way. Not as clingy. And it's cut to be low waste, so you get a lot of bang for your buck.

Mom: ... How much is in there?

Me: Only like 4 meters.

Mom: Of a low waste pattern.

Me: Yup.

Mom: Give me one reason you need that much "bang for your buck".

#sewing #skirt is Salix by Unendlich Schön #lengthened by a full 30 cm #because yolo #bodice is from the Riviera dress by Lotte & Ludwig #straight neckline and no fake button placket #fabric is Aina from IKEA #and a lil square of jersey in the back #you're supposed to not wash the linen on normal #and don't put it in the dryer #whoops #it's now soft as a cloud #skirt go spinny #I might need to get more of this fabric #also 10/10 would recommend just straight up replacing a back panel with jersey instead of putting in a zipper #you do have to gather (part of) your skirt onto elastic but that's still more idiot proof to sew or wear than an elastic #and yes #there's pockets #smaller than intended #but still plenty big for my phone and wallet #i then showed my creation to a sewing friend who loves skirts that are knee length or higher #she said she would immediately wear that dress if it were half as long #GOOD NEWS #it's supposed to be #and you can even make it a patchwork pattern #we're not gonna talk about how long this took to hem #pictures taken outside because it was the first warm day of the year #and also because I can't spin it safely while indoors #i could remake it in manic cartoon but it would cost at least twice as much

man ok so you know the spiciness scale on menus that show you how spicy a dish is so you can order based on your tolerance. can we have that for sauces too please

#im being serious btw. the sauce to rice ratio is very important and sacred to me #whenever i eat at home i get to choose how much sauce i can have with my rice because i dont like absolutely dousing it but i still wanna b #able to taste it yanno. i dont do well with slippery/saucy foods and ive given up trying to understand it. it might be a sensory thing #i am so sorry to admit this on the soup website but i cant handle thick/chunky sauces or curry. forgive me #the worst part is that i actually can handle and even enjoy some like caldereta and congee. but its so hard to tell people ill eat this but #not that.. its embarassing because it feels like im making exceptions. which i am!! because its preference!! but alas #but anyway with the sauce scale. i was thinking it would be nice to include a scale for how much sauce you want with a dish #rather than just skirting away from a food because you feel like you cant handle the texture or feel unsure about it #sauce could be adjustable without completely changing the recipe so it would be more like a matter of quantity or serving size #also i feel like i can make cool names for the scale. like “light drizzle” to “sauceageddon”#im asian so when i eat sauce i pair it with rice and it works because the rice kind of cancels out or makes the sauce more tolerable for me #with caldereta i make it an even 50/50 because i can taste it in the rice without the texture getting in the way #but with pasta and sauce its normally 1/3 sauce because the pasta normally isnt enough to cancel it out #i also grew up with relatives making fun of my eating habits and i really really hate eating at restaurants and gatherings because of it #maybe its because they want to make sure im eating right but!! you dont have to call me out for my 1/3 portion of spaghetti sauce!! damn!!!#anyway im not sure if anyone feels the same abt this and maybe its just me. but it would be really nice to have this a normal thing #without judging ppl for their eating habits and preferences. on god #yapping #food ment #EDIT: ASKING FOR SAUCE ON THE SIDE. I haven't sewed, beyond the most basic mending and buttons, in twenty years. It's certainly been that long since I made a garment. I have wanted to for years but was never permitted to do so.

But then YouTube recommended a video on how to make an insanely simple no-pattern skirt and... well. I ordered two yards of material and some thread (and elastic, and then pins too but they still haven't arrived) and got busy. I started on the ninth and hand-sewed this entire thing, finishing today.

The stitches are far from perfectly even and the hem doesn't line up quite on both sides and also it dips a little in the back but it *fits* and it even bells out when I spin (I need to use three yards next time and maybe add a bit of A-line to the pattern) and it is just a practice skirt I had to keep repeating "It's just for practice it doesn't have to be perfect" to myself for a week now but

I am so pleased with myself and how this turned out. ^_^ ^_^ ^_^
