I really enjoyed your take on calvinist vs catholic approach to redemption. Do you think GRRM sees Jaime as fundamentally a better man than D&D do? Given their adaptation and comments, I always felt like they were deliberately making him worse than he is in the books (e.g. the sept scene, killing his cousin, making all so many of his actions about Cersei). I feel like the narrative of Jaime "accepting who he is" (i.e. like Cersei) doesn't really apply in the books at all.
thank you!
and... well. goes unsaid. I mean, I think that d&d have missed the basic point that jaime never was a bad person in the first place nor he ever was like cersei and that his entire life he’s had very little agency (I ranted about it here here possibly here and here and mostly here), so half of his entire arc is about distancing himself from her and realizing he has a personality and there are things he wants that are not what she wants. until they were following the books they more or less managed, then... eh. we did see what the fuck they managed to come up with.
that said: jaime is not cersei, he never has been, she thinks he is and she fed him that entire narrative since they were born, ofc he doesn’t think he’s anyone else. the fact that he breaks away from it is the goddamned entire point of the arc, because guess what, we’re talking about a guy who before the age of fifteen was the only ass who loved his brother to the point that tyrion fantasized about burning alive tywin and cersei with dragonfire but not him, a guy who wanted to be like arthur dayne ie a knight who protects the innocents and brings justice into the world and whatnot, who got so fucking traumatized by finding out knighthood sucks to that point that at seventeen he had the kind of ptsd you read about in vietnam war books, who has the worst rape trigger in the entire books when it comes to guys - like the moment the subject comes up he either checks out or does extremely dangerous things to prevent it or actually acts on making up for it because of what he couldn’t do to help rhaella, who doesn’t gaf about how people look nor for societal standards or at least more than most people..... and I have to assume that he’s the same kind of person as someone who killed her friend at twelve because she dared have a crush on him? or who abused the shit out of tyrion since he was in the cradle? like ffs, jaime never was a bad guy to begin with, he turns into one because of extensive trauma that he went through all his life, because he’s stuck in an abusive relationship and he comes form an abusive/toxic household, he’s had relatively little agency all his life and every goddamned horrible thing he does is out of that trauma’s consequences not being dealt with. his book journey is about rooting them out and trying to be better, and he’s not maybe exceedingly good at it and he has setbacks and so on, but he tries and he eventually succeeds more than not, and since grrm wrote him like that.... obv. he sees him as a better person than d&d. because he wrote him as a fundamentally good person since the beginning, d&d have obviously not grasped and the fact that bryan cogman wrote the harrenhal episode pretty much..... says... all at this point.

look y’all. this show is a mess and only getting messier
but if you don’t think that the knighting of Brienne scene was the most beautiful thing you’ve ever seen then i don’t know i just think you’re wrong.

I’m not even saying anything about Cas or Dean and Cas’ relationship, that’s a whole separate issue, but really? This is what they did to Dean? He has no dreams, wants, desires or personality outside of Sam? All those years of character building, of him growing into and accepting the person he always was, of him learning to accept that he deserves to have good things and be his own person -  in the end none of it meant anything?
The finale didn’t take into account anyone’s arcs or character growth.  I mean there’s barely one moment I can point to and say this feels like a culmination of something the story has been building to for 3 episodes, let alone an entire series.
It sounds weird to say, because of course I was disappointed that he wasn’t in this episode, but really Cas is the only one who got an ending that in any way felt like a conclusion to all that came before. It payed off a multi season arc and who he was as a character and everything he’s been through, and I’d once again like to thank Berens and Misha (and Jensen) for that.

Hi yes while we’re here can I just say how done I am with any narrative that goes out of its way to teach lady characters ~lessons~
I am hypersensitive to this right now because it’s a bad idea to watch season two of Black Sails at the same time as season seven of Game of Thrones
but I find it absolutely fucking despicable from a narrative perspective that both Max and Sansa frame their own stories this way and I don’t care what in-universe excuses people want to pull for it
I’m ready for stories where women get real meaningful unchallenged power without having to ~learn~ a ~lesson~ that always, always involves abuse and rape

Do you think the prequel has chances of getting pick up? Not that I’m dying to see a John series, but I think it could be done really well and be very interesting and I really want to see what robbie and jensen do, and it’s a safe enough story to test and see how they handle supernatural, the canon (and see if they align with our heller ways you know👀) but I’m scared :( I don’t want jackles to give up tbh 😔
It’s early days but the CW said ‘yes’ to a powerpuff girls live action reboot which had a script that was openly mocked and even then they didn’t cancel it they just asked for it to be rewritten. I think we’re probably fine. I think Supernatural is a sought-after asset, it seems weirdly popular with a) wide and diverse demographics and b) international audiences, especially, I suspect, in the age of streaming. I really don’t want Jensen to give up either and I really trust Robbie Thompson more than ANY other writer that’s worked on Supernatural. I am curious as to what they make. Even the John/Mary prequel aside, I really want to see what Chaos Machine’s other projects are, and with such a LGBT+ friendly team in charge - well, I want them to succeed!

If Cas isn't in the final two episodes, he's either dead or getting tortured by the Empty, and if we're assuming that Jack kills God, he will probably die too or take his place, leaving earth.
By the end of this 15 season long journey of finding love and family, Sam and Dean, if they survive, eventually end up with NOTHING. From 0 to 100 to 0.
That's horrible and a waste of 15 years and also FREAKING HEARTBREAKING.
I do not fuckn want it.

During all the terrible long years of his childhood, only Jaime had ever shown him the smallest measure of affection or respect, and for that Tyrion was willing to forgive him most anything.

I love how half the jaime fandom is now part of a alive jaime clown club and the other half is just randomly posting quotes from the books. Sometimes with commentary, sometimes without. But both overlapping halves have basically rejected the show completely like it's not even worth serious thought and I love it. We spent a few says in mourning but we are now treating d&d like they treated the fanbase all these yrs (idiots who can't think)
man, I love jaime fandom rn like the fact that we’re doing that shows exactly why we’re 100% worthy of him because questionable humor and treating d&d like the idiots they think the fanbase is is exactly what he would do :))))

Sometimes I wonder what Westeros would be like if it had the consequences (curses) for oathbreakers that Tolkien's Legendarium does.
